The Shinobi of Shadows

Beowulf2.jpg

As the training had concluded, Raze had done...absolutely nothing. Throughout the entire exercise, he simply stood still, hands in his pockets, while his fellow shinobi handled the business. Sure, it probably wouldn't win him any favors with anybody, but he didn't really care much about that. They may be his teammates in the upcoming mission, but to Raze they were just other shinobi.

"So. Anyone know what this mission we're going on entails? I was never told, and Hanoka's getting nervous."

Raze looked at the source of the voice. The shinobi that caught his attention was tall, and looked much like a typical shinobi. Of course, Raze couldn't recall his name, though he assumed that they had been in the same training exercises before, since he had probably been in training exercises with every shinobi present. Unfortunately, Raze never cared enough to exchange pleasantries, and though he considered himself intelligent, probably couldn't name a single person around him. Of course, this was excluding their supervisor, who he recognized as Kenji Suzuki, formerly a hunter-nin back when that meant something.

"Suzuki-sensei, I believe the task you assigned has been accomplished. Can we move on?" Raze asked impatiently. The sooner they began their mission, the sooner he could possibly encounter a member of the accursed Kurai clan, his own family. It was possibly the only thing that evoked emotion from the cold, indifferent shinobi. Without his goal to end the Kurai bloodline, Raze wasn't even sure he knew his purpose in life. He sure as hell didn't care about world peace or any of that nonsense. He couldn't care less if this dark world was led to complete destruction. Sure, he would like to destroy the Land of Darkness, but that was due to his clan's alignment with them more than anything. His highest priority has always been to avenge his dear cousin, who lost her life by his own hands, because of the treachery of the Void Release.

His bloodline accepted power as absolute. Family meant nothing if it got in the way of power. Both of his parents joined the Land of Darkness so that they could be on the winning side. Hell, his entire clan betrayed the shinobi world to be on the winning side. Not that their alignment would have made much difference, but even with the corruption in all of their wicked hearts he had faith that they would never stoop to depravity. How many people did they kill simply to be on "the winning side"? No, that wasn't the only reason. They wanted more power, and by killing innocent people, they were able to unlock the second stage of their bloodline technique.

Perhaps that was what set him apart. Perhaps his faith and his hope were what kept him from being consumed by the Darkness like the rest of his brethren. After all, he had been hearing his parents, the elders of his clan, and most importantly, his cousin Ceres say that since he was only a child. "Your hope is what makes you special among our clan," they would say. To hell with that. What's the point of being special among monsters.

At the end of it all, he killed his own cousin, the only shinobi strong enough to resist the darkness among his clan, other than himself of course, with her own sword. And for what? To gain a little more power? Was gaining power really worth losing family? Well, the rest of the Kurai clan believed in such a twisted and sick mentality, so who was he to defect from this way of thought? As long as he reached his end goal, he might as well use any means necessary to gain power.

With more power, maybe he could
actually accomplish it, maybe, he could really terminate the Kurai bloodline...

Chiaki

"I'm fine," Chiaki smiled at Junko-san's compliment, dispersing his own water clones as soon as it appeared as if the training was over and Suzuki-san's final water clone was defeated. With Chiaki's clones gone, Nuibari's wires slackened, releasing Suzuki-san from the wire prison. "Thank you, Junko-san,"

Junko-san was one of the few people who was aware that he owned the Nuibari...and now the rest of his allies did as well. In the couple of months that Chiaki lived in the refuge camp, he had kept the legendary sword a secret from all but the few people he trusted, only training with Nuibari when he was alone since he figured it would draw unnecessary hassle. Chiaki had introduced himself to his new comrades with his guardian's surname, Yoshinawa, upon entering the camp. Only a former Mist shinobi might recognize Chiaki as a Kuriarare.

Ah well. There was really nothing he could do about it now. Chiaki knew that the secret wouldn't have remained a secret for long anyway...especially in a camp full of shinobi. He had little doubt the leaders of the camp had done an extensive background check on him anyway...otherwise he wouldn't have been able to enter the camp so easily.

Nuibari disappeared as Chiaki re-sealed his family's heirloom...an heirloom that had been long lost to the Kuriarare clan even before his father's time. "I'm glad you are alright, Shinra-kun," Chiaki said, speaking to the taijutsu user for the first time. He had been impressed by his fellow shinobi's courage/idiocy at challenging Suzuki-san to a one on one fight and would have been slightly disappointed if the boy couldn't join them for the mission. Chiaki didn't respond to Itsuki's question...nor the dark haired shinobi who gave him an eerie vibe.

Instead, he straddled his shamisen and began playing a peaceful melody that floated through the air and calmed the soul.

"Shamisen art: Revitalizing Rhapsody," Chiaki said as he cast the ninjutsu upon all his allies. It was a jutsu of his own creation, one that temporarily widened the chakra paths of his targets, increasing chakra flow, and replenishing lost chakra while simultaneously healing any minor injuries. The jutsu would have not been able to help Shinra-kun who had been heavily wounded, but it would restore vigor to all of his allies for the upcoming mission.

Shinra felt his reserves fill to the brim with chakra as the minor wounds he had incurred moments ago healed instantly. The bandages around his waist were a testament to his stupidity early on but the medic ninjas of the camp made sure to do the best they could. Thankfully, his bloodline accelerated his body's natural healing. Quickly switching to the first stage of what he dubbed the guardian mode, he felt the wound in his side close up. A tender pink area was revealed as he unwound the bandages. Chiaki's Revitalizing Rhapsody did the rest and healed the tender area and Shinra gave Chiaki a nod to confer his thanks as he summoned his chakra to his previously wounded side to heal any internal damage still not repaired by his bloodline. (@QuirkyAngel )

Shinra had been stupid like one of his comrades so bluntly put. He had only used one part of his bloodline and a select taijutsu he had been apt at using. Using both stage one modes and a combination of his family's taijutsu styles, he had been able to surprise their sensei for a moment. It had been enough to defeat the shark sage. Shinra mentally made a note to actively start practicing his calligraphy again to improve his fuinjutsu. It had helped and he needed all the advantages he could muster. He made it a point to review all the material he had on the subject matter and get some last minute material from any jonin that had any knowledge on the subject. "I'll see you guys in a bit. I thought of a last minute thing I needed to do," said Shinra to his comrades. He said his goodbyes for the moment as he went into camp to get some books on the matter. In camp he found one such jonin that not only was apt at the art but had scrolls on fuinjutsu. After promising to take great care of the precious scrolls, he returned to the plains just in time as Kenji began to speak to his comrades.

Rin cursed as his attack was turned against him. Letting the water fall he jumped back and into a nearby tree. There he knelt waiting for his allies counter attack. He had been stupid to not try to gather info from watching Suzakis attack, yet he doubted it would of helped him in his recent attack it was still stupid. He would not let it happen again.

Watching his comrades fight and complete the task he realized he was no longer alone. From now on he was part of a team and would need to learn what that meant and adapt. It also meant seeking his comrades help to complete tasks. Frowning he nodded in determination. He will learn quickly.

Leaping from his perch he walked toward his comrades. Stopping beside Junko he looked toward his other comrades. They had completed the task so he could at least offer his aid in healing any injuries they could not heal themselves. Just as he opened his mouth to speak Kenji began talking.

Katsumi and Ichiro were about to spring back into action with their animal companions when they realized the others in the group had finished the objective. "Done already?" Ichiro asked. "I didn't get to do anything." Katsumi smiled at him. "It can't be helped in a large group like this," she said, as she ruffled his hair. Before the mission started, they would probably be divided into smaller groups. Thinking of the mission, Katsumi realized she was in the dark when it came to the details just like Itsuki. "Did he even tell us about the mission?" she asked. "I assume it has something to do with thwarting the Kaze's forces," she said to Itsuki.

Kenji:

Kenji had been immediately forced to go out of his sage mode. "Shinra you idiot you never drain the chakra of someone in sage mode, you'll turn to stone..." Kenji said in anger. But then Kenji smiled as he had been pinned up and his movements were sealed. Suddenly though as he was about to say something he turned to water. Jumping down from the trees came the real Kenji, wearing his mask. He slowly approached the group and took off his mask. "You brats have improved, so much so that Raze didn't think he even had to participate in this test" he said as he approached

"Well... You've all passed my test, but it seems you all have your doubts about me as a leader now and you have other questions I assume So I hope this will answer all of them" He said taking a breath. "You were never really in real danger. First of all I stabbed Shinra in a area where I would not hit any of his vitals, this was to test his recuperation abilities and the abilities of medics in the group. Secondly, I created the genjutsu from the tree to test your genjutsu abilities, which some of you brats have extraordinary talent with. Then the rest of the test was to test ninjutsu, taijutsu, and other skills" he said. "The point of me pushing you into a corner and my threats towards you were to see how you would act in the face of a enemy and under stress and pressure. But most importantly I tested your team work. You cannot go out on that battle field and expect to survive if you don't have a team with you" He said. "Well that's enough for today, I'll see you tomorrow for your mission briefing... Seems like tomorrow will be quite a wet day, and I don't mean from the rain" he said heading back to camp.

Shinra nodded understandingly. Disrupting sage mode causes an unbalance in natural chakra, causing the user to be turned into a stone statue of their chosen summon. It would be something he could use against enemies but definitely not against allies. He definitely would be studying up on fuinjutsu though. He had forgotten how useful it had been. He had some good ideas for new arrays and seals. He would need to study more but it was something he knew was indespensible in battle. He understood why Kenji had stabbed him. It was a demonstration of why being reckless was bad and how it could be used against someone. His recklessness had caused him a minor injury but in the midst of a real battle, it could have been something that would have led to his death. Wounds, no matter how small could affect anyone's ability to fight at full potential.

"Arigatou Kenji-sensei. You have taught me a valuable lesson. I will remember it." (@Kanra23 )

Chiaki

When Chiaki finished his jutsu, he stood up and replaced his Shamisen to where it was normally strapped on his back. Nodding his farewells to the allies who had helped him during the test...as well as the ones who didn't...Chiaki made his way back to the camp. Chiaki, for his part, had only blinked when the Suzuki-san, who he had thought to be the real Suzuki-san, turned out to be a clone--his face remaining impassive otherwise.

Was that the presence Chiaki had felt watching them? Chiaki didn't know...but at this point...he supposed it didn't really matter.

He felt guilty about not trusting Suzuki-san who never intentionally placed any of their comrades in danger. Therefore, as he passed Suzuki-san, Chiaki offered Suzuki-san a smile. "I look forward to working with you, Kenji-san."

He would not call Kenji-san sensei because Chiaki had never been taught by the elite hunter-nin. However, he supposed a bit of familiarity wouldn't hurt...especially since they would all be working together for the upcoming mission. Making his way to his own hut, Chiaki had barely cracked open the door when he heard a voice he recognized.

"Chi-aaa-ki-kuun~"

Chiaki's eyes widened as the tall, large breast, silver haired woman wearing a kimono enveloped him in a hug. "What are you doing here, Master?"

Arc: Lost Control

The Start

Kenji

Nodding to Chiaki as he voiced his approval, Kenji responded in kind. "I look forward to working with you too you little runt. Just make sure you don't die on me alright? I don't want all this work I put into training you guys go to waste, you hear?"

With a shake of the head, Kenji strode off towards the nearby forest in a fit of grumbling. "Damn kids...had to wake up at 5AM to think of some crazy ass lesson...I'm not even getting paid for this crap..."

Losing Nerve

Shirokko (One-Tailed)

Shirokko couldn't help but giggle at Akago's non-sense. Be over in a flash? "You can do better than that!" She shouted as he ran off to help the others.

Throughout the whole ordeal, the kunoichi did not offer help, but simply watched to see what other skills her soon-to-be partner ninja held. Aside from nin, tai, and genjutsu, observation was one of a ninja's most useful tools. If there was anything that their group lacked, she wanted to know about it. Taking on these ninja from the darkness would be tough, and the slightest miscalculation could cost them their lives.

Out of the bunch, Chiaki, Rin, and Junko seemed to be the most level-headed and reliable. Ryuu and Shinra though...she'd have to follow them for sure; they looked to be the team's two hot-heads. They were powerful, but lacked knowledge on how to use that power.

Making a mental note of them, Shirokko turned eyes over the rest of the match. Itsuki was another trouble-maker she picked out from the crowd.

"Ack."

Seeing him launch another long-shot was wearing on her nerves. The woman didn't care if he could pin-point aim well enough to hit the nose off a bear. He was just being too risky with something that powerful.

Attention then snapped back towards Kenji's engagement, as Shinra, Chiaki, Junko, and Akago finished him and the clones off.

When Itsuki ran over to where they stood, the sand ninja clicked her tongue, wanting to say something, but held it instead. It was then a familiar voice came off from the side.

"Suzuki-sensei, I believe the task you assigned has been accomplished. Can we move on?" Once again, the Jinchuriki's right eye shone yellow, encircled by black. It was a detestable spawn of a person speaking; Raze of the lowly Kurai Clan. Where did he get off? Doing nothing during the session then acting like it was all beneath him? What a piece of --

"Shamisen art: Revitalizing Rhapsody." Cutting off her thoughts, a wave of peace and calm quickly took stand against the woman's rising anger. Ugh. Relax. He's not worth it. Just breathe Shirokko. Breathe.

Looking at Katsumi and Ichiro, as well as Rin running over, the girl sighed. Shukaku constantly trying to take over, stupid Raze from Kurai being there, and the recklessness of her teammates, did a fine job of frying her brain...too much of a fine job.

As Kenji retreated into the forest, with Chiaki heading towards town, a voice not her own, left the lips of Shirokko.

"Now who should I kill first? The water boy? The idiot Itsuki? Your fellow shinobi, Akago? Or...maybe...the one you constantly obsess over...? Mmm. What was his name? Raze Kurai!?"

Shit. This was not good.

"Augh..."

Shirokko's hand flew to her left eye, gripping the socket tight. Yet moments later, a maniacal grin spread across her face. Her hand fell to the wayside revealing a second black-and-yellow eye. Shukaku had taken over.

"Hello friends! I've been waiting to meet you all for a very long time," he cackled. Sand from the ground began to snake its way up Shiraku's legs, covering her body in a grainy armor.

"Hehe! You all look so lovely up close! I can't wait to see how you guys look, ON THE INSIDE! But first...let me do a favor for lovely host and kill this little Raze Kurai!! Yaaaaaaaaaa-HAHA!"

"Oh crap." Those where the only words he could muster before he lept away to a safe distance. He quickly searched his mind for some kind of fuinjutsu that would be of help. Gogyou Fuuin would do it but he would have to close. He remembered the Biju suppression seal his grandfather taught him once. It took time but it would work. The legendary Jiraiya used it to stop a Kyuubified Naruto Uzumaki once.

"Everyone, distract Shirokko. I have two seals that will stop her but I need time to write one of them. If you can successfully keep her off me long enough, we may have a chance!" shouted Shinra as he quickly unrolled some sealing paper with ink and began to furiously write the incantation onto the paper.

He quickly churned out a barrier seal that he slapped on the ground to protect any of his comrades that stood in front of him. He charged the array with his chakra and quickly went about writing the biju suppression seal. He hoped he was skilled enough to write such a complicated sealing array. He was only a level 3 fuinjutsu practitioner. The seal had a level 9 difficulty. He wiped the sweat of his brow as he made the strokes as precise as he could. If he screwed up, he could potentially endanger everyone. He couldn't afford to do that. He also couldn't afford to lose a comrade. He lost too many people already.

Shiraku (Human Form)

Shiraku's ears perked up. Seals? Seals?! Seals to catch him??!

"SHINRA!" The Jinchuriki turned its head around to face him. "Do you...REALLY, think I'd sit here and let you touch me?! HAHA! You shinobi are so stupid! I always wondered how you were able to catch us!"

As the monster doubled over in raucous laughter, it formed a seal with its hands. "Ninja Art: Sand Clones."

Sprouting from the ground, stood three copies of Shirokko, each one of them mad and grinning like a lunatic. They spoke in unison. "~Shin-ra-kun. I promise it'll be fun...just let me rip you apart!"

In a flash, the three clone were off streaking towards the boy desperately trying to create a seal.

"Now that that's taken care..." Shiraku turned eyes to Raze Kurai. "I'd like to have some of you!" Once again, his hands formed crossed palms. "Ninja Art: Sand Coffin."

Shreeeeeeeeeeeee.

A wave of sand rose from the clearing, tearing apart the earth. As Shiraku closed his fist in front of Kurai, the sand swam around Raze, covering his body whole. Looking to the other ninja, he taunted.

"Decisions! Decisions! Are you going to help little Shinra-kun finish writing his scroll...? Or are you going to prevent this smug little bastard smothered in sand from dying?"

"Crapcrapcrapcrapcraaaaaap!" a voice could be heard throughout the camp as a blurred figure moved rapidly. "I'm late! Latelate-so late!" That blur was Circe Konstantina. She had stayed up so late the previous night that she almost slept the entire day. "Why did I have to spend so much time practicing-" She screeched to a halt when she heard hideous laughter. "...Again?" she said to herself in exasperation before running towards where she heard the laughter.

"SHINRA!" she heard as she reached the site of the laughter. Trying to make herself hidden, she tried to determine exactly what was going on. From what she could gather, White-child was being controlled by Shuka-kun. When Shirukaku created three clones to attack Shinra Tensei and used sand coffin on Kaze Rurai, Circe knew she had to act quickly. The others could destroy the sand coffin, but she was in the perfect position to intercept the clones. Leaping out of cover and standing between Shinra Tensei and the clones. After quickly using the hand signs, a small wave of water burst out of her mouth and towards the three clones. "Suiton: Mizurappa." she said before grabbing one katana in each hand. "Even if water jutsu is ineffective against earth jutsu..." she unsheathed the katanas and threw them straight up into the air, using her wrist to put them in a spin. "...wet sand is heavier than dry sand." After throwing the rest of her katanas in the air, she formed the hand sign for her signature technique. Creating water clones of her arms, she caught all a katana in each of her six hands. "If I can slow their movements, they'll be easier to strike down." She took defensive position in front of Shinra Tensei, her six swords leaving little-to-no openings.

Tremki wakes up in a Cabin deep in the Forrest of an un-named location in the land of Shinobi, he gets up walking towards Samehada "Time to see what the day will bring us" he takes his bandaged blade placing it on his back as he walks out the door. He travels through the trees finding his way out of the forest into the open fields, he had planned on travelling to Sunagakure or what remains of it.

Ja Jankin

(Kakureyami Officer of Intelligence)

Chiaki's Hut

Placing a paper-tag on each side of the door post, Ja, held his breath. Once more he went over the plan in his head. Get in, get out, set off the traps, dead; it was as simple as that.

Hurriedly waltzing into the hut, Ja mumbled unintelligibly whilst scratching the back of his head. "Aw man! I'm so lost! Is this --"

In a dramatic show of surprise, his hands flew to his mouth which dropped opened wide. "Oh my gosh!" He gasped, looking at Sumire and Chiaki. "I! I! I thought this was a small inn! I'm so sorry!"

Beginning to back out the room, the man stopped after peering closer at the two. "A-are you two geisha...?" The corners of his lips curved upward in support of a smile. "Interesting." Not hiding the fact he was thoroughly checking out Sumire's frame, he smiled when switching view to the...er...boy? Girl?

"Mistress Moon. Is it? I have heard of a lovely beauty roaming the countries that goes by the name...it's good to see the rumors are true. You really do look good. However...the one you're hugging...protege of yours? Man or woman, I don't discriminate...but what is it anyway? Boy? Girl? Ah! Where are my manners!"

Flipping his hair and opening his shirt to reveal a flawless chest, Ja continued.

"My name is Marco Strix, journeying here from the Land of Wind. Apologies for barging in like that. With the Kakureyami empire causing such as mess, I ended up here and am lost."

Innocently, he grinned, showing off a full set of 32 teeth.

"Do you happen to know about anything that's going on here? About the war effort? If there are any preparations? If this camp will be moving anytime soon?"

His eyes gleamed as he stepped closer to the pair. "Or...would you prefer to be paid for some entertainment services first, before getting down to business?"

Chiaki

Chiaki opened his eyes to see a black katana being pulled from his chest and his Master smiling down at him. He appeared to be in his hut, laid on his bed.

“Sumire-sensei?”

Sumire tutted and sheathed her Yume-tou. “You let down your guard, Chiaki-kun. Haven’t I always told you can’t let down you’re guard—even around me? The moment you let down your guard you die, end of story. THAT’s the life you chose by deciding to be a shinobi.”

Chiaki rubbed the area where the blade pierced him, feeling a faint tingling, but otherwise no pain. Slowly, Chiaki got up and prepared tea as his master sat herself in his table.

“Why are you at the refugee camp, Master?” Chiaki asked, handing the silver haired woman a worn mug. The young man took a seat across from Sumire-sensei, wrapping both delicate hands around his own mug and taking a small sip.

“Oh, I just wanted to see how my Lovely Little Butterfly-chan is doing~,” Sumire poured a bit of sake from her gourd into the drink before drinking. “You haven’t been sending letters lately. The girls at the Geisha house were getting worried so I decided to be their representative and come visit you. Don’t worry, I remembered to leave Lily in charge.”

“…We are preparing to battle the Kage…”

“So, I’ve heard. From what I’ve seen so far, this camp is up in arms getting ready for war. I had to do a lot of convincing, and show them a bunch of paperwork—proof of my business and my connections with you—before the shinobi’s even let me in,” Sumire rolled her eyes. “It’s quite a paranoid lot that you’ve gotten yourself involved with.”

Chiaki didn’t respond.

Sumire quickly finished her tea. Then she pulled a smoking pipe out of her kimono and, after lighting it, took a quick puff. “I won’t stop you if going to war is what you really want to do…but try not to die.”

Chiaki simply nodded. He stared at his cup of tea for a couple of seconds before looking up at his Master. “How long will you be staying?”

"I told the girls I would make sure you were being treated right…so I’ll stick around for a bit I guess…”

Chiaki nodded again. He didn’t expect his Master to stay longer than a couple of days. Sumire-sensei had a tendency to get bored easily and go wherever she wanted whenever she wanted.

“Well…aren’t you going to ask?”

“…ask what Master?”

“Why I woke you so soon when I’d normally leave you sleeping for DAYS whenever I pierce your heart with Yume tou.” Sumire didn’t wait for Chiaki’s response and leaned forward so her lips were pressed close to Chiaki’s ear. “There’s a—,”

@White Masquerade

"Aw man! I'm so lost! Is this --"

Both Sumire and Chiaki looked up to a handsome dark haired man enter the hut and began yammering about being lost. Chiaki frowned. He was used to being mistaken as a geisha. However, there were things Marco said that made him suspicious. Certainly there were plenty of civilian refugees that entered the camp to escape the Kage’s regime…but he’d never had any civilian wander in his hut thinking it was an inn before. However, when Marco began asking questions about camp secrets, it became painfully clear to Chiaki that ‘Marco’ was a spy. Granted…the man had only spoken so openly because he assumed Chiaki was a geisha. It would seem his feminine features were useful even without his Little Butterfly disguise.

In addition to being a spy, Marco was the kind of person Chiaki detested. Chiaki disliked men who looked down on geishas—men who thought geisha’s were prostitutes and they had they had the right to do whatever they want to the girls so long as they paid. Marco felt to Chiaki like that type of man. In spite of this, Chiaki’s face remained impassive throughout most of Marco’s talk. He had lived in the Geisha House long enough to know that showing such feelings was not good for business. However, when Marco approached them with THAT look in his eyes as he spoke of “entertainment services”, Chiaki couldn’t help but narrow his own eyes.

Sumire, on the other hand, smiled coyly, her eyes twinkling mischievously as she blushed. “My, you flatter me~” She draped her arms protectively around Chiaki. “He’s a BOY and NOT a geisha, though I don’t blame you for that mistake. Chiaki’s QUITE adorable after all. Unfortunately, I know nothing about camp activities as I’ve just come here recently myself. Though…,” Sumire smirked as she checked him out as openly as he did her. “I certainly don’t mind playing with you~”

In an instant, Sumire was behind Marco, the mouthpiece of her smoking pipe pressed to his neck where the jugular vein resided while her other hand twisted Marco’s arm painfully behind his back. Her lips hovered over his ear as she spoke with barely contained rage.

“Just so you know, Geisha’s do NOT provide paid ‘entertainment services’ outside of their respective Geisha House.”

“I’m sorry, Strix-san, but any information regarding camp activities and war efforts is classified—reserved for only the shinobi of this camp. As a shinobi, I am not allowed to reveal information of such matters to civilians…though I don’t think you are one.”

Chiaki tilted his head as he observed Marco.

“Who are you?”

"Aaah, it doesn't look like they'll be here today. I guess that means one more day of peace then." Roku said with a slight yawn. He leaned back and sipped on his tea.

He was the only one in his hut, at least for now. Refugees came and went so there wasn't really any point to claiming ownership on the huts. The young man blew softly on the surface of his drink and took another sip. Roku shifted his position and laid on his side with an arm propping up his head.

"...It doesn't look like anyone's around. I guess it's safe to get a few chapters in then." Roku grinned and pulled out a slightly used copy of Icha Icha Paradise and began to leaf through the pages. This really was the only time he could pull the forehead protector off and actually see. He said this confidently, completely unaware of the paper-tags placed on the hut next door and the chaos that would soon rock the refugee camp.

Tsukiko Aki

The teenage nin was walking casually around, searching for a suitable place to train so that no one would interfere or get hurt. Tan-chan persistently pushed his paw out of her satchel every now and then; demanding food. "Tan-chan....If you stick your paw out one more time out of that satchel, I'm going to slice your paw off with my kunai." This had been the umpteenth time today that he had been begging for food and she wasn't going to tolerate it for much longer. He had already been fed twice today, but still demanded a fair serving of food. As she said this to Tan-chan, it was almost as if a dark aura was swirling around her head, demonstrating her profound anger for the raccoon dog at the moment. Tan-chan crouched down into the satchel, getting the point. Little did Aki know that she was still in the air as she was talking with Tan-chan. A satisfied expression turned to see the prickly tree-bark calling out to her face.

THUNK

And then it all went black.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-Two hours later-
She woke up to the pain of a very bruised forehead that was starting to create a goose-egg sized swell. Wincing in pain, she looked around, her memory pretty hazy as to where she is and what she was doing. Tan-chan began pawing her arm, urging her to get up whether she liked it or not. Aki heaved herself up, peering around the tree trunk to check and see if anyone had seen her clumsy act. Seeing no one, she sighed with relief and turned around, a hop in her step. Leaning back onto her heels, she started to launch herself in the air to continue her search--But what she heard made her skin crawl to the point that she jumped, surprised, making a very tiny little squeal.
"Ninja Art: Sand Coffin."
She knew what that meant by heart. Someone was gonna die. Aki ushered to Tan-chan, telling him to jump into her satchel, and he did so. A serious expression replaced her gleeful one as she began to jump from branch to branch to where the source of the voice was coming from. There was no mistaking it; it was Shukaku. When she arrived a fair distance away, she hid behind a tree, kunai in hand. Tan-chan peered out of the satchel to see what was going on, making a slight click and snort. Cringing, she shoved him back in and pushed her head slowly around to corner of the tree, observing what exactly was happening. To her misfortune, someone was bound in a sand coffin bind and a Jinchuuriki had let Shukaku run lose. "Tch." Aki put her two hands together, building up some chakra and pulling up some golden dust from the ground. This wasn't going to be easy, but she best go about it with caution. Putting on a grin, she carefully walked around the tree now seeing the other shinobi that she couldn't get a good look at earlier. With one hand behind her back holding the kunai and the other hand behind her back as well, keeping the dust at bay for when she needed it, she casually walked into the situation. But still keeping her distance, sat down and folded her legs.
"Hello! What seems to be the problem?"
Akago looked indecisively between Raze and Shirokko unsure whether to try to break the Sand Coffin or go directly for Shukaku until Matatabi spoke up.
"If you remove the Kurai Shukaku will begin to attack at random, we should go straight for Shukaku and restrain him. If you use my power we ought to have the advantage."
"Alright we just need to hold that bastard back until Shinra finishes the sealing array, time to go to work!" Akago said to himself as he focused on Matatabi's chakra and his own begininng to form the Tailed Beast Cloak sharpening his teeth and changing his eyes to the biju's mismatched pupil-less ones.
When the cloak was fully formed he activated his Flying Raijin Jutsu and warped to the kunai he'd left with Shirokko earlier, wrapping the tails around Shiraku he called out. "Shirokko-san can you hear me?"
"Shukaku is using your anger, you must stay calm. Hear me Shukaku! Tormenting your host shall gain you nothing we will not allow you to harm these people, nor I think will Son and his host."
Tremki wondered through the plains, on the other side of the plains was the next forest, it was inevitable that he would need to go through this to get to where he wanted to go, "Sungakure.." he continues walking calmly, he had always enjoyed the silence although he was tired of being alone the silence was what kept him sane.
Before reaching the forest, three men had emerged from the forest, they all appeared to be Rouge Nin of some kind, the one in the middle begins shouting out chants "Give me everything you have, or we're gonna have trouble!", "Don't mess with us you'll get hurt!", "Listen or die!" they kept on chanting. Tremki glares at them unamused, after several minutes of them chanting on about how he should give in and give them what they want Tremki finally replies "Are you all done yet?" he begins walking towards them.
The Rouge Ninja laugh "You're asking for it yo-" before long it was yet again silent, as the Rouge Ninja drop dead with several Shuriken & Kunai placed in their vital area's such as their heart, head and stomach. Tremki continues to talk past and venture through the forest.
Shiraku (Human Form)
Hmm...suiton.
Shiraku was not amused. These ninja were becoming a pain. With his usual cocky demeanor fading, annoyance quickly turned into amusement, as the woman ahead formed an array of 6 arms. "Ha. Ha-HA. HA-HA! HA-HA-HA! Now this is something new, girlie!"
When the words, "kill yourselves," were uttered, the clones Shiraku summoned earlier, fell in an instant to the ground. Yes. This girl was someone he wanted. Not alive of course. She was going to lose her life, but he wanted to do it himself; with his own hands.
"Heh. Water shinobi! Yes you! I bet you think you're so cool don't you? Throwing your katana in the air and catching them like that...who are you trying to impress? No. No. I know what it is! You want to outdo me. That's it isn't it!? WELL! You have another thing coming, human scum. After I'm done with Kurai here...I'm going to take you to hell. And I'm going to do it in style!"
The woman chortled with sinister undertones and turned face to Raze. "Now, foolish girl. Live with the consequence of your decision. Ninja Art: Sand Grave-"
Shiraku stopped.
"Ninja Art: Sand Grave-"
He growled then coughed, choking up a torrent of brown sand.
"STUPID HOST! WILL YOU STOP IT!"
"Never."
One eye shifted back, returning to normal as Shirokko took on control. "NO. I'll kill him with my own tools! How...DARE YOU, try to take over! Shinra is going to finish his seal. I'm going to stand here, and you're going to go back to that dirty little cage where you belong!"
"Hello! What seems to be the problem?"
Who? Huh? Who said that?
Shirokko turned her fighting body as best she could, to get a look at the unknown speaker. When their eyes met, the shinobi didn't quite know who it was, but the Sunagakure garb was unmistakable; she was someone from their village. "Who...are...y-y-y-yoooooouuuuu...uuugghh."
Sweat poured down her chin. He was fighting back. The sand monster was fighting back.
"Did you-?"
"Shut up. I'm in-"
"Are you no-"
"Yes. I. Am! I beat you before and I can do it ag-"
"BEAT ME? IS THAT --"
"AUUUUUUUGH!"
At this moment, the feuding pair felt tails wrap tightly around their body. Simultaneously, they gasped. They were tails of another legendary beast.
Matatabi!
Akago!
["Shirokko-san can you hear me?"]
"Yes! Yes! Yes I can! I can't....get this...freaking monster...out of my-"
["Shukaku is using your anger, you must stay calm. Hear me Shukaku! Tormenting your host shall gain you nothing we will not allow you to harm these people, nor I think will Son and his host."]
To this, Shukaku giggled uncontrollably. "Son who? His host, what? Mata. Mata. Mata. You must not know who I am. I am Shukaku, Undisputed Lord of The Sand."
Once the words left his mind, Shirokko's free eye turned black. "OI. MATA! You want to have a party then!? I'm ready too! Here goes! Ninja Art: Sand Graveyard!" Moments later, the ball of sand off to their right constricted, splattering a dark and shadowy liquid through the afternoon air.
"YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! FINALLY! MATA! DID YOU SEE THAT??" He shrieked. "I'M GOING FOR THE ONE WITH 6 ARMS NEXT! I AM SO EXCITED!"
Shukaku Unleashed
Shiraku Has Completed Partial Transformation
Shiraku's body swelled in size, breaking free from Akago's grip through rapid expansion. The newly-formed raccoon jumped away, giving a hearty growl while baring teeth.
"Mata. You should take over your host too! It's fun! Come with me! Come with me and let's wreck this place together!"
Ja Jankin
(Kakureyami Officer of Intelligence)
Chiaki's Hut
Bummer. So the mistress didn't know anything. Ah, well.
The man shrugged. At least he might be able to have some fun with the older one. Though the older one's protege...Ja would have to keep an eye on. He might be under the care of Miss Moon for now...but she had to let him off her leash eventually. When that happened...he'd be there.
Ja smirked.
"Miss Moon. How old is your apprentice?"
Is what he wanted to say, but instead found a smoke pipe at his throat.
Ow, ow, ow! That hurts!
The woman disappeared from view and was now behind him twisting an arm. As they spoke, the man's gaze drifted from the ceiling to Chiaki, then to the ceiling again.
What the? Did they find out? No. No. Can't be. I didn't do anything wrong! Alright. Relax. Rule one of cover: when one story doesn't work, ditch it for another.
"Haha. Mistress! What are you and this kid of yours? Some kind of shinobi? You got behind me so fast! I thought I just stumbled upon two simple entertainers living life."
His voice then became deep and strong, as if he were some sort of military officer.
"Donlon Yupa, at your service! I apologize for lying to you both about my identity. It was of utmost importance that I kept it a secret when we met."
Nice. Now what next? What next? Ah, yes. The keyword: detonate. I just need to use it in a sentence. Make it look casual. Bang-boom. I'll be out of here in a jiffy. Rule two of cover: when things get sticky, create a diversion.
"I have come from the refugee camp in The Land of Fire. We are trying to gather everyone together to combat the forces of Kakureyami. My superiors sent me here to test you folk. We want to band with camps that are trustworthy and secure. I am glad to say, that you passed with flying colors. You instantly knew something was up. Wonderful."
Ja struggled a bit in Sumire's grip. "Heh. I didn't expect for you to be so rough and forward with me, Mistress Moon. At least give me a warning before you start taking the lead in our little love game. Would you be able to unhand me so I can show you some proper I.D.?"
He looked mischievously at Chiaki. "That is, unless you want your servant to give me a thorough pat-down for it instead. I could be hiding weapons all over," he giggled. With a quick lick of the lips, Ja continued speaking.
"Back to more serious things, Miss Moon. I also wanted to inform people of the camp to be on the look-out for a bomber. At our own, we had to deal with explosions that occurred at odd hours of the day for 3 straight weeks. Afterwards, they suddenly stopped. We have reason to believe the culprit has moved onto another camp; possibly this one. If you or anyone else comes across unsual paper tags stuck to things, make sure to remove them before they're able to detonate-"
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.
An explosion from the next hut over ripped through the air.
"Oh my goodness! He's here! He's here! Mistress! Let me go! We need to move fast! Someone could be hurt!"
Internally, Ja danced with glee. It would have been in his best interest to use this chance to flee, but no. He wanted to play with these two just a little more.
"Ah, I se-"
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.
It had happened right as he had turned the page. The front of the hut he had chosen vanished and was replaced with burning flames. His ears were filled with a ringing as the shockwave launched him backwards a few meters. Roku's book was torn from his hands as he could only watch in horror as a piece of wood flew right for his eye.
In that brief moment, the world seemed to slow down for a few seconds. Perhaps the loan sharks had finally come for him, that was the only plausible. And although he couldn't turn his head in time, he could make out the sound of wood creaking from above him. Roku's eyes widened as he gripped onto the handle of his katana and prepared to die.
From outside, it looked as if the hut had exploded into a burning pile of rubble. All was silent, for the first few seconds. And then a slight ringing replaced it. A small section of the burning debris seemed to shift slightly by some invisible force.
Roku coughed and kept his eyes closed as he slowly crawled out. He was lucky to be alive, but he felt absolutely exhausted. The young man's body was wracked with pain and he struggled to get up to run from his presumed pursuers. His body wouldn't obey, however, and so he laid there.
Tremki ventures through the forest, before hearing a bunch of loud noises coming from a location near him 'What was that?' he says to himself curiously, he jumps up to a tree branch, using the trees as a cover as he rushes towards the loud noises, he found an area that was far enough for him to safely conceal his presence with slim chance of being spotted, crouching down on the branch using the main trunk of the tree as support, he glares towards the large beast before his eyes in shock "What's going on here.." he says quietly enough for only him to hear.
In slight confusion and worry, Tremki prepares himself placing his hand on the handle of Samehada "Are you ready for this..?" although nothing replied, Tremki had still nodded in understanding. He remained at his position, observing Shiraku closely waiting for his time to either flee, or attack.
~Flashback of when Tremki first woke up~
Tremki's body lays in what was Kirigakure, his body laid still as if dead covered in blood & bruises. He opens his eyes screaming at the top of his longs in agony 'GYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!' screaming for several minutes he begins to quite down, beside him laid Samehada, he reached for it as he came in contact, his wounds slowly began to heal. Using Samehada as support he manages to get himself up looking around at the chaos bodies laying across the Village, it was true chaos..
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.
Startled, both Chiaki and Sumire looked toward the direction they had heard the explosion. Sumire was still holding tightly onto Doton Yupa.
“There really is a bomber,” Chiaki said, mystified. Yupa-san’s story had still sounded sketchy to him, but the explosion proved his words true. “Thank you for warning us, Yupa-san. Unfortunately, I still can’t give you any information about camp activities/plans. It’s not my place. I’ve only joined the refugee camp a couple of months ago and I’m not in a position to make decision about camp alliances. You’ll need to see our camp leaders for that.”
Chiaki glanced toward Sumire. “You can let go of him now, Master.”
Sumire growled and removed the smoking pipe from his neck, but she didn’t let go. “You trust too easily, Chiaki—that’s why I was against you being a shinobi. Men lie all the time. And this man smells like a liar to me.”
That…and Sumire did NOT like way he was addressing Chiaki. ‘Doton Yupa’ sounded like the type of man who would mistreat women and Sumire hated those types of men. They brought back memories of when Sumire had been naïve and blinded herself with love. Yupa especially reminded Sumire of the man she had wasted six years of her life on. Men were liars…and a man who lied once was likely to lie again. She didn’t want people like Yupa near Chiaki—who she considered a ‘boy’ not a ‘man’.
“And you have trust issues,” Chiaki replied evenly. The argument was getting old. Chiaki, for his part, didn’t respond to Yupa’s suggestive words. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t used to it. Besides, if people thought he was beautiful and let their guard down around him, all the better. “Could you please take him SAFELY to one of the camp leaders, Master? Yupa-san can tell the camp leaders about his camp in the land of fire and their desire for an alliance…as well as about the bomber. I’ve got to go see if anyone’s hurt.”
Sumire sighed exaggeratedly. She switched her grip so her arms were draping over Yupa’s in a hug—a rather tight hug. “Fine, fine, Chi-ak-i-kun. I’ll take good care of him~”
Chiaki simply nodded. He didn’t want to deal with his Master when she got into THAT mood. It took too much effort and Chiaki disliked getting involved in hassles. He didn’t think Sumire would kill Yupa-san so long as the shinobi didn’t say anything that set his Master off. Since Yupa-san was a diplomat sent to secure an alliance between two camps, surely he wasn’t as untactful with his words as he appeared so far…right? Otherwise, Chiaki feared for Yupa-san’s life. Chiaki knew that Sumire-sensei did not care much for shinobis—nor their war against the Kage. She wouldn’t give a damn if she killed an envoy from another camp, effectively ending any chance of an alliance.
Flicking his eyes once more to between his Master and Yupa-san, Chiaki sighed before disappearing through the door. However, before he went the direction of the fire, Chiaki caught sight of an explosive tag stuck on his door. Chiaki sighed...again. He would have to take the time to remove the tag before he checked on the explosion. Seeing as it appeared to be word activated, he had to remove the tag quickly and carefully--if not the tag might explode in his face. Rolling his eyes, Chiaki got to work delicately removing the tag and tossing it in a nearby well. Once he finished, he jumped gracefully from roof to roof to the direction of the fire.
Sumire watched Chiaki leave the hut before turning to ‘Doton Yupa’ and shooting him a beatific smile.
“Shall we get going, Doton-kun? Let’s go see if we can find Kenji-kun. He was a boy when I had left Kirigakure…but he’s turn into such a fine man. I’m sure he’d LOVE to meet you~”
Chiaki arrived in time to see a boy roughly his age lying in front of the exploded hut, his pale skin littered with blisters, burns, and a lot of blood. Worriedly, Chiaki approached the boy, cradling the boy in his arms and checking his vitals. Fortunately the boy appeared to be alive. Chiaki wished he could say he knew everyone in the camp…but he hadn’t been in the camp long enough. There were way too may people escaping Kakureyami’s expansion.
“Are you alright? I'm sorry I couldn't be here sooner. There’s a bomber on the loose in the camp. I found an explosive tag in front of my door as well and I had to carefully remove it. ”
Chiaki frowned as he observed the boy. He could patch up burns, blisters, and wounds, but Chiaki was no medical-nin. There would be nothing he could do if there the boy’s injuries were worst than he thought—internal damages and such.
Chiaki lifted the boy up bridal-style. Thank goodness the boy was light. Strength was not Chiaki’s strong point. “I’ll take you to see Rin-san.”
The pain throbbed throughout his body as he felt himself getting lifted up. The incessant ringing still hadn't stopped, but he figured that someone had come by to try and help him out. Roku kept his eyes shut. It was odd, he couldn't move his body in the slightest yet he didn't feel anything broken in his body.
"Gah, as soon as I can walk I need to grab my stuff. Pretty sure I had a few ryo stashed away in my sewing kit. And those herbs could have gone for a few too. Still, explosions usually aren't how those greedy bastards usually operate. There's no way they'd be brazen enough to pull stuff like that when everyone's worried about another war." Roku thought this as he remained limp in the boy's grasp.
His left hand twitched slightly, he had lost the scavenged forehead protector. At the very least he kept the worn katana grasped tightly in his right hand.
Rin watched the jinchurakis take over their host wearily from the sidelines. He wasn't stupid enough to believe he was strong enough to defeat them. Instead he would have to trust that their host will gain control of them again or someone with more power will come. A loud boom coming from the camp sent him moving and Soon he was heading back to camp. The demons will have to wait right now he has to ensure no one was killed in what sounded like an explosion. Making it to the camp he found Chiaki holding an injured male up near a wrecked hut. Walking closer he took the man from the pink haired boy. "I will take care of him Chiaki. Can you inform me on what happened here?"
