Literature NaNoWriMo 2018

Hey guys. :) It's almost that time of the year!

I was wondering if anyone here plans on doing NaNoWriMo this year. I've been wanting to do it for over seven years now, but having always been super busy with school and exams, I never got around to it. Now that I'm all graduated from for good and working comfortably part time, I feel like I can finally take on the challenge of 50,000 words in a month.

Has anyone done it? Any tips? Or, if you plan on doing it, let's create a motivational group!

I have always come close but I have shit follow through. Maybe this will be my year...I think that every year.

I have gone to local meet ups and I've donated money, frequented forums but school often gets in the way. But this year I don't have school or much in the way. I would say NoNoWriMo is a great way to make a habit of writing every day because supposedly the big authors stress writing something every day. It's tough and I've probably been trying for 6-7 years now but it's always a blast no matter what. I love that creative energy you share with others. Nothing beats the rush of sitting down, lighting candles, it's raining outside and you're knee-deep into your novel.

Just don't give up. That's the toughest thing.

I block out my novel and plan each chapter. So maybe make a plan and just keep pushing, even when you hate what you're writing, you can always go back later and fix it. My biggest issue is just getting stuck or annoyed and giving up.

Don't give up.

I tried the mini version of it, where I aimed at 15k words rather than 50, but still wrote every day, and it was a success. I was able to get up to 30k this way!
But usually, stuff got in the way so I never got to do the actual NaNoWriMo. I am considering trying it this year because roleplaying got me into the habit of writing better than anything else XD So I want to take advantage of it and aim for the new high score! I mean, high word count ^^

I have a novel planned out entirely, all I need is sit down and write it. So maybe this year is the one...

I am considering maybe trying it out this year, though I am a little concerned because I have no idea about the logistics of it. Do I have to pay anything? Are there rules you need to follow or restrictions on what can be written? Is there a word limit? How does one actually submit it, are there any identification things you need to take care of in order to do so?

No payment needed, you can donate if you want to be all you really need to do is sign up for the site and post a small summary of your novel. You can also make a cover for it, too! You can write whatever you want, the genres are all open and as far as I'm concerned there isn't restriction on content either, so mature stuff is fine too. No word limit, but you're only eligible for winning if you reach the actual goal which is 50,000 words by the end of November. :D

You basically update your word count on the site, and write with whatever program you have available for yourself. There's also a bunch of small events you can find nearby your, write-ins and such where people go to do word sprints and such and meet other participants. :) I say this but I've never actually done it, this is what I've just found after some research. OH, and you get achievements on the actual site as you update your word count.

Yay! I actually did a bunch more digging yesterday, and ended up deciding to join that site and thus participate this year :)

I might do it this year. I have done it in a few previous years (I won last year, and I think 2013 and 2014)

I have finally decided on a good chunk of the details as to what the story will be about, so I'm definitely joining, and the title shall be "Essay on the Spirit of Villany, as Written by Na Slegna Rotsopmi". Wish me luck peeps!

Good luck Idea Idea

I registered and dragged my rp partner into this, but I don't know if we'll make it XD
I have my story planned entirely, but writing is hard. How do you even write? >.<

Want to be writing buddies?
we could. It's my first time too ^^

Is this a uh rethorical question or are you actually asking me my process for writing things?
It's a rhetorical question XD
But actually talking about writing process should be interesting too, so why not. I don't know how other people write.

Idea Idea and Onmyoji Onmyoji can I add both of you as writing buddies? :D I announced mine too, really getting giddy and nervous about starting since tonight at midnight my time is when it begins haha.

Elernia Elernia sure ^^ and we can have motivational support thread here, once it starts!

Definitely. I have a schedule planned but I don't think it's realistic. Still, it's a nice way to set up goals, so if you guys are interested, here's the plan:

November 7th: 15,000 words
November 14th: 30,000 words
November 21st: 45,000 words
November 28th: reserve time, aka any word count I'm missing this is the time to catch up
November 30th: 50,000 words

So yeah, basically 15k a week, which is a bit scary but we'll see. :D Just a benchmark to see whether I can make it.

You could do it per day, too, I heard, like around 1600 words, give or take, a day. The thing is, I don't think I can write exactly the same thing every day so I decided to go for general benchmark goals every week or so (the first benchmark coming the earliest).

Sure, feel free to add me Elernia Elernia !

National Novel Writing Month

My personal goalpost is to try to aim to 2.5K a day, with weekend corrections for anything I'm missing. I know there will be days when I have presentations and stuff to give, so I need to have some spare days which means I need to write extra on the other ones XD

I will go with the flow, but aim at 1.5-2k/day.

I signed up 9 years ago, and this is my first year actually doing it hahah. Word count as of tonight is 1,821 so far D: hahah

I'll be doing this with you guys too :) I've been nervously anticipating this for the last couple of weeks. Let's all cheer each other on and do our best.

I struggle with consistency, but it's a matter of making it a habit. I used to write five new pages a day (MLA format) and want to get back to that. I'll keep an update here on daily word counts for the sake of my own accountability.

Day 1: 1,778
Day 2: 3,709
Day 3: 5,716
Day 4: 8,128
Day 5: 10,423
Day 6: 13,266
Day 7: 14,521
Day 8: 16,046
Day 9: 18,113
Day 10: 19,090

Best of luck! If you'd like, I'll poke you once in a while! :)
