Debacle Debacle yay! Welcome :D We'll try to make this into a nice support group.

If any other people want to add me as writing buddy, HERE

Good luck everyone. My biggest concern is running out of writing fuel mid-month..

Good luck and added!

For me the current biggest concern is phrasing. It's what slows me down the most, like today only made like 1.5k words... :( Oh well, it was the opening part.

1.5 K words is good! I don't think anything has to be perfect, as long as you get your words in. I find that stressing over phrasing and words is what slows me down. Plus, you'll get to revise your novel officially around January next year, I believe? So no need to worry too much. :D I honestly don't think I'll have time to edit, so I try to just let go of any whim.

I wanted to write 2.5K so it's disappointing to fall a little short. I just kinda worry about phrasing naturally, because I'm huge on planning and structure, so everything must flow and carry meaning and fit like a puzzle piece or I can't be satisfied with myself. A little silly I know :P

Alright, I’m doing it...I technically have parts of the story already written, since it’s based off a partner RP here. But I’d feel like a scumbag spiking my word count with previously written stuff on the first day.

Not that that has stopped me before...*transforms into renegade biker rebel* yeah that’s right baby, I’m a NaNo Rebel.

Oh hey! I'm glad to see other people doing NaNoWrimo here too lol. I did my first one last year, but it was a flunk, but I'm starting again this year. 50k word goal!
My English teacher has my class do it. It's mandatory~

It's a rough start so far, but I hopefully I can reach the goal. Good luck to everyone else too!

Interesting assignment XD
Are you supposed to have your novel graded in the end or just participating is mandatory?

Nah, my teacher doesn't read it! Participating is mandatory, but they just check our word count by the end of the month

They told the class that by the end of the month what you're going to get is a messy, ugly monstrosity of a draft, but that's not what you should focus on. It's the fact that you were able to write at all is the thing you should be proud of. It helped a lot getting through the month remembering their words since I'm a perfectionist lol!

That's a good point. I always lose time on editing while writing and this is why I still can't write my novel. So I thought Nanowrimo will help me with that because I'll focus on speed.

Ha, I spend ungodly amounts of time on detailed historical research for my NaNo writing usually...it's terrible! And I tend towards the perfectionist side as well. But I have won a few times nonetheless.

Love the article! I think it's better not to put expectations on yourself, you know, like writing a perfect story. Just have fun with it, you'll have soooo much time after to work on it. :D Plus you'll come back with a fresh outlook on the story and the characters.

I've been downing so many teas since the start, from green tea lemonades to piping hot Earl Greys. Not exactly like coffee but I definitely have been on a high caffeine streak the last two days.

Oh I don't really expect anything out of myself really. I like to say I make jokes like an American shoots bullets: Fire them all in rapid succession and pray one hits the target. (golden star if you get the reference)

But whether I expect something out of myself or not, I still try to bring more structure and flow to my own story, not to impress but to live up to my own standards

I started this last year, as it was the first year I'd heard of it. I didn't meet the 50k requirement in November, but I did finish the story I started a few months later. So let that be inspiration! hopefully

Or they don't sleep at all. Because I have no idea how you can physically write so much in a couple free hours after full work day ^^"" maybe they write for work though

Or maybe they have a job that doesn't require them to come in every day or with less hours than yours.

I just saw on the site that someone already has 37k words, which absolutely blows my mind. :D

I have a friend (IRL) who's doing the challenge with me this month, and I saw that her word count was around 8k yesterday. Which is doable, of course, but I know for a fact she's been writing less than 2k words each day (because she told me). My conclusion is that people must be using nano to work on things they already had going and are fluffing their word count with all words they have going for that novel, not just ones they've written in November.

*shrug* Either way, it doesn't really matter. I'd be dubious of anyone who said they wrote 37,000 words in two days, even if they did have two complete days to work on it. But Nano isn't really a competition; it's a challenge :)
