My sister, Jessica

Jessica looked down at her feet with her hands in her pockets. She were walking home from school, and it was starting to become pretty dark outside now. Luckily it wasn't very cold though. She still couldn't wait until she got home. She didn't know if Luked would be there, but she sure hoped so.

Suddenly she felt a pair of hand on her back, making her stumble forward a bit. "Boo!" A voice behind her said, and it was directly followed by laughter. Jessica spun around and couldn't hold back a giggle either. It was two of her friends from school, Lisa and Dave. "Holy fudge, guys!" Jess laughed "Are you trying to kill me?"

"Maybe." Lisa said and smirked. "Consider it your punishment for leaving without us."

"I didn't even know that you were heading this direction. You always go the other way. Plus, I need to go home."

Dave raised an eyebrow. "You live with your brother, right?" He asked and Jessica said yes.

"Well," Lisa continued "We should let her head home then. It's getting dark." Dave nodded.

"Is your house far from here? Do you need company?" He asked her.

"Nah, it's fine." Jessica said and smiled lightly.

Luke sped through the neighborhood around Jessica's school in a nicely outfitted 2015 racing yellow corvette stingray. His shoulder length platinum blond hair danced wildly in the breeze as he went, smiling at how silly the whole act was. Jessica had only been living with him for a week and he had been trying his best to cheer her up and make her happy and forget the hardship that was leaving her parents. He had borrowed the car from a colleague and dressed up very nicely, something he was rarely inclined to do. Soon he saw his sister walking down the street with who he assumed were her friends, Lisa and Dave, who she often talked about. He circled back so that he could speed into a screeching halt next to Jessica, leaving the faintest smell of burning rubber in the air.

"Hey sis! These your friends?!"

The three friends heard the sound of the engine vrooming in the distance, and it was coming closer. Soon they saw the yellow car appear at an amazing speed. "Whoa!" Dave said, and to their suprise the car cirkled around and stopped, right beside her. She saw Luke. She was confused. That surely wasn't his car, but she couldn't stop herself from smiling. "Luke? Hello! Wow, nice car!" She gasped. "Yeah, this is Lisa and Dave. And this is my brother." Dave whistled impressed. "Sooo...I guess this is my ride. See you guys tomorrow?" She continued and hugged them both. She went into the passenger seat. "So, where did you get this? I hope you didn't steal it." She said jokingly.

Luke smiled and laughed as he started down the streets back towards his house. "Nope. It belongs to a friend. Although I probably would steal something to see you smile." Luke reached over and gently, teasingly poked Jessica in the side. "I hope you've had a good day so far. I'm going to go get some groceries later and make something nice for dinner."

Jessica quickly waved goodbye before they drove away and her hair was grabbed by the wind. She giggled at his teasing. "You're not serious, right? You don't need to steal anything." She told him. "It was pretty good, I guess. What are you planning to cook? Do you need help?" She asked, not completely trusting her brother's cooking skills.

"Of course I didn't steal this, and no, I don't need help. Your big brother learned quite a lot while he was out of the house." Luke turned the corner that led down a long back road to the north side of town, quickly approaching the in-between middle and high class neighborhoods. In between to equally-sized sat his own big, beautiful, hard-earned home. It was almost impossible to believe a 22-year-old could own something like this, but he did, and he was very proud of it. "Well, sis, you know the drill. Have fun, do whatever you want, and make sure you have a big beautiful smile when I see you. Just don't spoil your appetite, and stay out of my lab. There's still some bad fumes in there. I need to go take this baby back to my friend." He patted the door with one hand and threw her a house key with a cute little cat keychain with the other. Cranking up some heavier music, he laughed wildly and sped back to the city.

Jessica got out of the car and watched him drive away. She looked down at the keychain in her hand. She walked up to the door, unlocked it and opened it. She heard two short beeps and then a robotic voice. "Alarm activated. Identifying..." She had been told how to do this by Luke earlier. "Uhm...I'm Jessica." It took a second. ""Jessica" identified. Alarm deactivated." She didn't know how it worked but it was hella cool. Before she even stepped inside all the lights went on.

She put her bag down and gazed around. She still wasn't used to living in a place like this, but she surely didn't regret moving here. She had a test next week, but she didn't feel like studying. She could study with some friends tomorrow instead. She went to the kitchen. She felt pretty chilly, and could really go for a cup of tea, if she could figure out how to make one.

A light glowed into view on one of the countertop. A touch screen display built into it displayed a main menu listing the many different functions of the kitchen as well as other parts of the house. A certain selection, "make drinks" caught Jessica's eye. The submenu had two choices, "adult" and "non-adult".

Jessica looked at the display. "Make drinks". She smirked slightly. Adult or not, huh? She wondered if her brother used the adult option often. She couldn't imagine him drinking. She shouldn't drink either, Luke had maybe installed a secret program that could tell if she had an "adult drink". He would also probably tell if she was drunk, and he would be angry. So, no. It wouldn't be a good idea. She pressed the "non-adult" option and then tea. A cup started to fill up with hot water.

A single teabag plunked into the water and began to steep. The warm water became a deep brown and clouded. Jessica heard the door open and her brother walk in."Hey, Jess! You on this floor?" He called from the living room. He began to wander around, looking for his sister.

"Yeah! In the kitchen." Jessica shouted back. She took the warm cup in both of her hands and threw the teabag away. She glently blew the liquid to cool it down, and then took a sip. The warmth pleasantly spread through her body. She started to walk towards the hall to meet Luke. "Hey." She said and smiled. "That was was quick."

"Well, that car is anyway." Luke smiled and walked past his sister, using the counter menu to make himself a warm cup of coffee. He started spouting off what only sounded like jumbled gibberish to Jessica. "Erica, parameters B5 and S12 to false, standard protocol gamma, set climate to 75 at 20 percent and up 10." The house was silent for a little more than a second before a new female voice came through the speakers hidden through the house. This one was a little more human than the alarm system. "Yes sir, everything has been adjusted. Would you like anything else?" Luke smiled, happy that the system actually worked today. "No, Erica, that's all." He turned back to his sister and smiled even more. "So what are you going to be up to tonight?"

Jessica shook her head lightly and then went to sit down in the couch. She had stopped trying to figure out what all of that tech-talk meant long ago. She crossed her legs and put the cup on the table after taking a sip. "Nothing special. I've got a biology test coming up, soooo...Really should be working on that. It shouldn't be too hard though. I hope." She giggled slightly and then sighed. "I really wish that I had your brains."

Luke sipped his coffee once it was prepared and chuckled. "Well sis, we all have our pros and cons. I'm sure you're a lot better at making friends than I am. You're certainly going to be more attractive, and I'm sure in the future a lot of people will want to be around me just for my money." He smiled softly, a small look of knowing in his deep blue eyes. "Do you want help with your studying? I'm sure they haven't changed the curriculum too much since I took it."

"Nah, it's fine. It's basically just reading." Jess said and picked up the warm cup with both hands and blew on it carefull. "I'll get started." She stood up, grabbed her bag and started to walk upstairs to her room.

She sat down and fished up her book from the backpack and started to half-mindlessly flip through the pages. After about twenty minutes her phone rang. The name "Lisa" popped up on the screen.

"Hey."

"Hello Miss Moneybags! Whatcha doin'?" Jessica tried her best not to burst out in laughter.

"Don't call me that, please!" She made a small pause. "I'm studying."

"How boring. Why are you even trying? You'll ace it anyways." Pause. "You know what would be way funnier than studying? Going to Mike's party tonight. I heard he really wants you to come. Dave too. He wants you to bring your brother. He seems pretty cool."

"Luke's not really the party type...And I'm not sure he would like me to go either."

*sigh* "You're officially the most boring Miss Moneybags I've ever met. Jess. Girl. Mike, the hottest guy in our grade, wants you to come to his party. You can't miss this!"

"I thought you had a crush on Mike, not me." She said jokingly.

"I know, I do! That's why you neeeed to come. I won't have a chance without my favourite wing girl! Get your brother to get his fancy car and drive you to Mike's place tonight. It will be a good time. Only a few people are coming. It won't be too crazy, no drugs or something like that.

The offer sure was tempting.

"I'll try to persuade Luke. Text you later, okay?"
