As she stood there atop the roofs watching the spectacle play out, she was scanning for her prey. Some local heroes were making their way to the scene. Small timers and none of them were her quarry. But soon a worthy foe appeared. An up and coming hero by the name of Slipstream made their appearance. Slipstream used to be a cop before deciding to become a professional hero. Shadow Khan had done her research on this particular hero. Before turning pro, Slipstream used to forge evidence to convict otherwise innocent people. He was never caught obviously.
Thinking about how he would falsify evidence brought back painful memories of her own past. Her parent's were victims of false convictions made by a crooked cop. She had no sympathy for people like them. They were corrupt and she would purge the world of their corruption. The thugs she enlisted began to scatter into the various alleyways and the small timers split up to try and find them. Shadow Khan's eyes however were only on Slipstream. She would not lose her mark. She dove into the shadows once more and began her pursuit.
Slipstream followed suit with the other heroes and began pursuing one of the villains down the alleyway. The perfect place to spring her trap. She went ahead of the criminal and then emerged from the darkness to give herself a few seconds to recover. As the criminal ran past her she soon had line of sight of target. She rose her hand and began to focus. Within moments shadowy chains erupted from walls that formed the alleyway. Slipstream evaded some of the initial chains deftly. But that wouldn't be enough to stop Shadow Khan. More chains began to erupt the closer he got to her. Chains from all directions soon overwhelmed him, suspending him just a few feet off the ground. Shadow Khan's entire body shook from exerting herself so much. But it was worth it to catch this one.
"Who... are you?" Slipstream struggled to say. The chains though weaker than typical ones were more than enough to restrain him. It was taking a tremendous amount of effort to keep him that way. Shadow Khan needed to act fact. She sent Shadow Dancer to deal the final blow. Shadow Dancer approached Slipstream and embraced him. Her entire body shifted and the sound of blade ripping fabric and flesh rang out. Shadow Khan released the chains and she fell to her knees in exhaustion. Shadow Dancer continued to hold Slipstream until the light in his eyes faded. The blades retracted, Slipstream's body falls to the ground a solid thump, a pool of blood begins to form. It was swift but his death had meaning. At least it did for Shadow Khan.
Her hunt was completed and her body was overwhelmed with fatigue. Shadow Dancer returned to her master's side and embraced her in an act of protection. Shadow Khan's breathing was heavy. She overexerted herself and this was price she paid for that. She looked up from her kill and into the bright lit street beyond. Someone would see this eventually. She needed to move. Find a safer location. "Shadow Dancer, we need to leave." Shadow Dancer complied and enveloped her once more before sinking into the darkness and making their escape.
