The Last Hero
Among those who applied, Tamura’s score was exactly in the middle of the pack. Once again, all of his predictions, and careful planning proved to be successful. From the beginning, Tamura only wanted to obtain just enough points to pass the exam and he did just that. With the easy part out of the way the true test was about to begin. Everyone back home was expecting him to graduate in the top of his class, and he intended on doing that. After all, he did receive a letter of recommendation, and made a promise to a particular pro-hero that he didn’t want to disappoint. Tamura began thinking of what was to come next. He wasn’t worried about the written exams, but the hero training exercises were going to be his toughest hurdle. He didn’t have any information on what was to be expected in the actual hero training courses, but if he used this entry exam as a control point for his hypothesis then future exams were going to be unpredictable.
Tamura was in deep thoughts when he was suddenly interrupted. “What do whaaaa….” He paused mid-sentence when he realized that Zora was addressing him. He stared at her with widened eyes for a brief moment before responding. ‘Oh crap what is she doing here? Did she come to rip into me? Is she going to start preaching about not leaving a comrade behind? Is she really a human or a terrifying beast in human skin? Say something you idiot, don't just stand there!’ Tamura’s inner thoughts were all over the place. It was pretty obvious that he had been startled by her sudden appearance. After an awkward amount of time passed, he stopped slouching, stood up straight, and shrugged his shoulders. “Start over? Yeah that’s cool whatever.” He attempted to say in a manner that masked his fear of Zora.
Tamura accepted the gesture and took Zora’s hand with a frail grip. “Nice to meet you too Kisama-Kun, my name is Tamura Naoki. I’m glad that you passed. I think you have a lot of heart and stuff. Based on our scores, it seems very likely that we'll end up in the same class together.” It was at that moment there was a subtle yet noticeable shift in Tamura’s personality. “I intended on being the top student in our class.” The dreary aura around him had been replaced with confidence, and his statement came off as fact rather than a claim. Crimson eyes filled with determination stared into her pink gaze. However this change in demeanor was very short lived. Tamura immediately began slouching again and spoke as if he had just woken up from a slumber. “Owe, you have a really tight grip for a girl Kisama-Kun.” He wasn’t trying to offend her or rev her up, but Tamura was often too blunt for his own good.
