IntroductionAlso, click here to read half the novel I wrote for our little tae-tae
Hello there! My name is Stephanie and I'm new here but have been roleplaying since 2003 (Starting with Neopets yooo). I’ve been off living life, and this year I’ve decided to finally sit down and complete a NaMoWriMo novel. However, I still want to gather more information, inspiration and build upon my English skills once again. I’m currently a full time worker, along with full time university online, so my replies will most likely be once or twice a week. I’m only on the hunt for ONE roleplay so I can experiment with the plot and characters I want to use for my novel.
Expectations
- Like I mentioned before, I’m a full-time worker and university student, so it’s a blessing if you get more than two replies out of me throughout the week. I really want to get back into writing again, and if you’re consistent with your replies, I’m probably going to be more prone to replying to them quicker
- I'll roleplay on here, not on discord. I'm old and have no idea what discord is nor want to spend my time learning because it might push out some useful information (like how scientists believe your finger nails are the same texture as a dinosaur's skin)
- My character is Korean, but knows basic English. So when I roleplay, the dialogue in the bold display when he is speaking in Korean.
- I'm an old-school roleplayer - I'm not HUGE with bbcode. Yes, I know how to use it. However, I'm very much so about having the one graphic (usually an animated gif that displays my character's reaction or them being cute and all) and my reply below. I find it too distracting to read from scroll boxes and rather have it all on display. Plus, I probably won't have enough time to jazz things up with bbcodes. If I do, you're a blessed child.
- The location of this roleplay will be based in Perth, Western Australia. This is where I currently live so I know the surrounding areas and such so I can supply information/images/videos about certain places they may go (for example, the restaurant in which he is reunited with his sister is a real place in the city and I go there regularly). Same for when we discuss anything about Seoul in South Korea (I spent 3 weeks in Seoul last year and learnt a fair amoutn while I was there).
- This role play will be a f x m, rated PG. Basically, for the plot to work and to be true to the characters, we can expect hand holding, maybe a hug (potentially even a first kiss!), but for the actual ending of my novel, I want it to finish on a low note (shocker! The guy doesn’t get the girl!). If I think the timing is right for the characters, then I may experiment with having their second or so kiss. If you’ve ever seen a Kdrama before, you’d understand – it takes up to almost 15 episodes (which are an hour long) for people to even have their first hug or kiss. There is just lots of T E N S I O N which I’m all game for.
- So I’m on the hunt for someone to play the female role for this story!
- I have my introduction ready to go! (Also it's almost 9 pages long in my word document - sorry, not sorry)
Park Tae-yeon, 25, is flying from his homeland of South Korea, to see his sister’s (Park Nari, 28 years old) wedding in Australia. Tae-yeon (or commonly just called “Tae”) and Nari grew up in the small town called Gyeryong (formally known as Nonsan) in the South Chungcheong province, where both of their parents worked in the armed forces. He is a sociable, outgoing person who can have a loud personality. He enjoys cooking, travelling and annoying his sister with his aegyo. He is very affectionate and cuddly, especially with his older sister. His favourite thing to do to relax is to lie on the grass and cloud or star gaze.
When Tae was 16, his Mother died suddenly when the Cheonan, a South Korean warship she was visiting while on duty, was split in half with North Korea being the prime suspect. His father did not deal with the loss of his wife which lead him to quit his position in the Army and begin to drink daily. It wasn’t long after their mother’s death that their father started to become violent. Throughout their childhood, Nari and Tae saw their father as someone with authority and very strict (even emotionally and mentally abusive sometimes when their mother was away at work). However, he was beginning to physically take it out on Nari and Tae.
When Nari turned 20, she moved from Gyeryong to Seoul to start her university journey. However, this left Tae at home alone with his father. Nari came down on the weekends to support Tae with his homework and to ensure he would be ready for his entrance exams when it came to his turn to move to Seoul with her. However, the possibility of that happening became thinner and dimmer with each visit as she would discover a new injury every time.
One night, Nari came over for a surprise visit to find the house in a complete mess. She found Tae in his room, beaten and bruised. She attended to her brother, but shortly their father arrived and began to attack Nari. Through self-defense to save Nari's life, Tae overpowered his father and ended up beating him to death. It wasn't until he looked down at his father's lifeless body and watched the blood fall from his hands that he even realised he had killed him.
This was where Tae thought the law system in Korea was corrupt because he was charged with the death of his father (even though it was self-defence) and he was sentenced to ten years in jail. After many years, he was let out after seven years due to good behaviour and re-evaluation of the case. While he was in jail, Nari had met the love of her life in university. The student was from Australia and once he had completed finishing his studies, asked for her to come with him back home.
The plot
The story now takes place a few weeks after Tae’s release. Nari's fiance has told Tae that his workplace has decided to sponsor Tae to come over to Perth, Austalia and surprise his sister for her wedding (Nari's fiance is a YouTuber who a large platform base and - surprise, surprise - there wasn't any sponsorship; he just wanted Tae to come out for the wedding and knew if he told him that he paid for his tickets that he would kindly refuse) . Whilst in Australia, Tae is staying with Nari and Nari’s fiancé (your character’s brother) for just over two months. During his time down under, Tae is learning how to live again and put his fears behind him (fears of the past, of the future, and actually spending time with people he loves). He plans on visiting a lot of different trademark areas (like the beach and going camping) with whoever wants to go with him (well, someone will have to because he doesn't know how to drive a car). As Nari's fiance has a large Youtube platform, he's been asked to be a featured guest during his time which means being included in the daily vlogs, challenges and helping to create content. Later down the line, possibly a few months after he returns back to South Korea, everyone goes to Korea to see him and some of the other family members for Christmas (~winter snuggles maybz?~)
Your character and my expectations for you
- You'll have the opportunity to be Nari's fiance's sister. She can be older/younger than Tae and doesn't have to fit any "looks" guidelines.
- As mentioned before, I like to write. Therefore, I feel a bit deflated when I might write 6-8 paragraph long replies, but only get 2 paragraphs for a reply. If you're really struggling to reply, message me - I'll understand and we can work through the writers' block together!
- Your character can either be living within the same household or lives nearby. Either way, she is very close to her brother and best friends with Nari and basically sees them every single day
- I've left the brother (Nari's fiance) completely unnamed and no background history. Therefore, you have the opportunity to develop his character also. There are only three things about him that need to be taken into consideration: He went to Seoul in South Korea for university studies and while there he learnt how to speak Korean and met Nari, he is a full-time YouTuber with a large platform and fans, and finally, while he was in Korea and dating Nari, he would visit Tae every Saturday in prison.
- Your character could have a normal job, or they can be their brother's Youtube aider (filmer/editor/manager etc) and therefore will work from home with him.
- You can pick if there are any other siblings or relatives involved. If you want, you could even say your character and another sibling live with Nari also which would give another character in which your character can console with (almost like a role model or someone who helps her analyse her emotions - or make complete fun of her about crushing on him)
- You can decide whether Nari and her fiance disclosed with your character about Tae's past. Somethings to consider could include; About why Nari hasn't seen Tae in so long, why Tae doesn't have Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat, why Nari doesn't have any photos with Tae past his teenage years or maybe if Nari disclosed if your character about the death of their parents or the physical abuse they suffered from their father. It basically determines your character's first views of Tae. They'll either be "Oh, this is the brother I know nothing about", "Oh, this is the brother that was in prison that no one will tell me why" or "Oh, crap. This dude killed his Dad but here he is smiling like sunshine, wtf". I'm keen for anything, to be honest!
- You have semi-control of your character's brother and Nari. As Nari is your character's best friend, there will be opportunities and experiences where Tae isn't around and Nari's character can be developed (for example: What was Nari like when she first moved to Australia? Tae had no idea because he was in prison the whole time). I say "semi-control" because this also means I have the opportunity to use them also to help build the story. However, if you create any new characters (like another sibling or friend), you'll have complete control of them
- I looooooooveeee reading flash backs, emotional responses and back stories. I feel like it helps to develop characters. If you write two or three paragraphs about how your character just watched Tae touch a leaf, I'm all over that like hot sauce mate.
- Your character can either be 100% Korean, 50% Korean or 0% Korean. There are possible outcomes for how you pick their ethnicity. Below is a break down of what could happen depending on their ethnicity:
- 100% Korean - both parents are Korean and they could have grown up in Korea and moved over or moved over to Australia when they were fairly young. Knows how to speak Korean very well and so there is no language barriers. I can also imagine their mother hearing about the news of Tae killing his father from the newspaper or television, and reference him throughout their older teenage/young adult life (for example, it your character forgets to call their Mum and she replies with "Are you turning into Park Tae-yeon? You trying to kill me?". I think it'd be fascinating if one of their parents was completely engrossed in that whole crime case but when they meet Tae, they don't realise that it's him and adore him.
- 50% Korean - one of their parents is Korean and the other is Australian. This means that they are influenced by both cultures. Could possess the ability to speak Korean fluently, slightly or not at all. Could also be able to pick up some Korean cultures. Once again, that same Korean parent could be obsessed with making remarks about Park Tae-yeon but this time, their children could pay barely any attention to it.
- 0% Korean - Both parents are Australian, and character was born in Australia. Might be able to speak Korean, but most likely none (which creates a language barrier as Tae is developing his English) and introduces your character to Korean cultures and behaviour (Like, she might find it weird that they've been to the beach or swimming and Tae swims with a shirt on, or that he might end up holding her hand but still hasn't kissed her because kissing is such a big deal in kdramas!)
Final words
As you might see, I’ve been hanging on this plotline for a very long time (Ha!) and I’m super happy to expand/change/brainstorm with you to create a wonderful roleplay experience ?
