It was a cold day, sometime near the end of October. They had started school a little less than a month ago and Val was already bored with it. She sighed, pulling the scarf up on her face. She had no problem navigating the crowds of people, because everyone formed a bubble around her, not a single soul daring to go near her. According to everyone else in school, she was the scariest person alive. Just because one guy tried to kiss her and she flipped him over and cracked his spine, she was the scariest person in school.
Now that I think about it though, She may have overreacted.
Sighing, she trudged up to her locker, placing her lunch inside and shutting it, causing the people near her to jump. She turned swiftly and headed off to class.
As Kit walked through the crowd of people, or should I say, pushed through the crowd, considering there were so many people, he pulled his coat tighter around him to shield out the cold. Apparently, the town that he had moved to had very cold winters, and their seasons were just as unpredictable as his mothers decisions to move houses. It was his first day here, even though they were unfortunately a month into school, and people had already found their friends. He was already doomed to be a loner. He walks inside the school, thankful that the halls were at least a little warmer than the outside, and released his pressure on his coat, as he walked over to where the lady at the reception of the school had told him his locker would be. He shoves his lunch inside it, and before anyone looks, hangs the small crystal in the back of it, before shutting it and heading to where his first lesson apparently was.
Val opened the door, causing the room to go silent. She walked over to her desk to see some guy sitting in it. She glared at him and he ran away, giving up on trying to woo the girl behind her. She sat down, placing her bag by the desk. She scooted in her chair and took off her scarf, placing it in her bag an taking out her materials.
Kit walks into the room that he'd been directed to, suddenly self conscious and feeling everyone eyes on him, even if they weren't. He wasn't usually an anxious person but, he still didn't like to be looked at so much. He pushes his hair out of his eyes as he licks his lips nervously and walks over to a chair next to a girl who everyone seemed to be ignoring, and had strange white hair in contrast to his own pitch black hair. He places his bag on the floor and rubs his hands together nervously, his fingers were cold because he had stupidly worn fingerless gloves instead of normal gloves, his eyes trained on the front.
Val let a sigh escape her lips, leaning her head on her hand out of boredom. "So bored." she mumbled, tapping her fingers on her desk. She really could care less about weather there was a new kid in the classroom or that he sat next to her. As long as he didn't try to hit on her, or bug her, she would be fine.
Kit studies the girl that he had chosen to sit next to, and is about to say something when the teacher for the lesson walks into the room, unfortunately stopping him from introducing himself or asking her name. The teacher begins to do the attendance call, and ticks off the names of the students who were in the classroom. "Valorie Dent?" The teacher calls in the same bored voice as every other teacher that Kit had had in his school life, had. Kit taps his fingers on his leg, he wasn't even sure what lesson this was, it looked like a history classroom, which sucked. He hated history.
Val sighed and raised her hand. "I could find 500 better things to do with my time right now." She mumbled, letting her hand drop to her desk and tap against the table. She could care less if people found her annoying, or at the least, that's what it looked like. But not every cover is true to the story on the inside.
The teacher notes down Valories presence, and in the process Kit learns her name. "Kit Valentine?" The teacher calls, and he raises his hand while looking down at his desk, he didn't want to know if anyone looked at him. Out of the corner of his eye he watches Valorie, and chuckles slightly at what she had said. As he places his hand back on the table, he mumbles to her. "Number 1, gouging my eyes out with pencils," he mumbles to her quietly so only she can hear.
Val just snorted. "You don't want to be talking to me kid." She warned, sitting back in her chair and kicking her feet up on the desk. The teacher glared at her. "Ms.Dent, feet off the table." She said sternly. Val shrugged and replied "Nope.", popping the p. The teacher just shook her head and went back to the lesson.
Kit raises his eyebrows and looks at her funnily, leaning back in his chair. His eyes wander around the classroom as he speaks. "Number two, talking to miss social outcast." He says, jokingly. She seemed like a rebellious type, and while he wasn't exactly the type to stay in line and be a teachers pet, he was also in the situation where he had to try and fit in.
Val snorted again, not even bothering to say anything. She kept the un amused face on, glaring at the teacher. As the minutes until lunch slowly ticked by, she tried her best to at the least pay attention, but really all the teacher was saying was stuff that she already knew. But soon enough, the bell rang, causing her to stand strait up, grab her things and put on her scarf, stalking out of the classroom as fast as possible.
Kit grabs his bag as the bell goes, slinging it over his shoulder casually before walking out of the classroom. Once out in the hallway, he pulled out his timetable from his bag and quickly checked it over for where to go. Realising that he had no idea where that was, and seeing a familiar blur of white hair off in the distance, Kit scrambled over to Valorie, stepping in front of her and blocking her path. He was taller than her, but he tried his best to just look relaxed and not even remotely threatening. "Hey, miss social, I know you don't want to talk to me, but you'd be helping me out if you could tell me where this room is." He says, pulling his timetable back out of his pocket and pointing to the room that he has to go to on the paper.
Val sighed and shoved it away from her. "I don't help people kid, I hurt them." She said with a cold stare. She cracked her knuckles and grabbed his shoulders, lifting him up and putting him beside her as she continued walking away from him, his form soon being swallowed up by the crowd. She could honestly care less if he wanted to talk to her, he would regret it later.
Kit furrows his eyebrows and shrugs his shoulders, the girl was strange and- did she pick him up? Damn, the girl was strong too, then. He sighs and looks down at his timetable, figuring that he'd have to make it on his own. He'd tried to make a friend, or at least talk to someone, and it had not gone well in his eyes. As he sets off in a random direction, that he didn't know was really not the right way, he puts his hand in his pocket and plays with the familiar chain that he always kept with him.
Val walked into the next class, the familiar silent hush falling again. It seemed to almost haunt her, like a ghost. She would never get used to the feeling of being an outcast, but it was better this way. She was dangerous, and no one needed to find out that she was. It was better for the both of them if they stayed apart.
Okay, it was the third classroom that Kit had tried now, and each had sent him in a different direction. The hallways were now almost empty, most people were in their lessons by now. As Kit rounds the corner and walks into a classroom, he quickly walks up to the teacher and asks them if this was where he was supposed to be. Thankfully, it was, and he walked over to the only empty seat which, coincidentally, happened to be sat next to Valorie. Sighing, he takes a seat, and puts his bag down next to him.
Val just groaned, setting her head on the desk. Out of all the people in the world, did he have to be the only one she had to sit next to? She mumbled something incoherent into her desk, which was most likely a string of swear words and some other unkind words towards him. Soon the bell rang, the teacher walking in.
Kit watches the girl out of the corner of his eye but doesn't say anything, if she was going to be that way, then so be it, he wasn't going to talk to someone who clearly didn't want to talk to him. He watches out of the window, until the teacher says something about the lesson that caught his ear. "Who can tell me about Pandora's box?" The teacher asks, a few murmurs sound around the room. "Come on guys, what is it?" Kit bites his lip slightly, he wanted to answer, but he also didn't want to stick out.
Val didn't even bother, twirling a strand of hair around her slender finger. As the teacher's gaze wafted over to her, she glared at him, and the teacher abruptly turned to the person next to her. "Kit, how about you." He asked, smiling lightly at the new kid. Val just rolled her eyes, and amused smile coming to her face as she looked at him.
"Uh..." Kit stuttered for a moment as he tried not to start rambling about Prometheus and Epimetheus, and then he opened his mouth and hesitantly stated, "Pandora opened a box, given to her as a present, it is said that she released such evils as greed, hatred, deceit, and murder out of the box, you know, all the really great evils. She also let out hope, which was the only good thing to come out of the box." He looks around for a moment and then continues, "She let other things out of the box too, in different religions it tells you different things. Some say that what she let out was a demon, or the devil or whatever. Others say that she let out the personification of evil itself. In some of the tales, the thing she let out of the box even slaughtered her." He finally shuts up and looks back down at his desk. So much for staying quiet.
Val just stared at him for the longest time, soon a wide and very much evil grin spreading across her face. So the new kid was a nerd. She would remember that for later. The teacher, clearly stunned, went back to the lesson. Soon, the bell rang and Val was headed off to 3rd period, hopefully away from Kit.
As Kit packs up his things, he avoids eye contact with everyone, before barging out of the classroom and looking at his timetable again. Instead of wandering around and getting lost, he asked a small freshman looking girl for directions, and was pointed the right way. He walks into his next lesson, art, and thankfully sees that he didn't share it with that stupid white haired girl.
Val had a free period right around now, that she used to go outside and relax. Smiling, she walked out into the cold air, pulling her scarf up to her nose to try and avoid freezing. Her feet crunched against the frosted ground, looking around. She sat down on a bench, letting out a puff of hot air, trying to warm her hands.
The class were already in the middle of their project, and Kit had to join late, so to start his project he decided to grab a piece of paper and draw what he knew would end up being denied by the teacher. He was okay at drawing he thought, better at it than some other things, but not as amazing as a lot of the other people in his class. He'd probably just scrape by in this class. As he draws the outline of the beast, he sighs, school was already uneventful and boring.
