Okay, needless to say, I have been rewatching all those old TV shows that make my heart all fuzzy. But I noticed, Avatar; The Last Airbender, actually touches in a lot of very dark subjects that they don't exactly explore. There are things like bloodbending, child abuse, war, death, etc. The very idea of an element-based war and fighting style is enough to make me make a recruitment thread for a small group. But, imagine if we strayed off the original optimistic Avatar story (just because RPing the same story from a TV show is silly)?
For example, there are things that could've been different (such as an AU)
- The burn from the Firelord could have blinded Zuko, and just picture how that would have changed him and resulted in a different interaction with the "GAang". I think that would be very interesting, making him virtually "useless" and "irredeemable" in his father's eyes (as if he wasn't before); also he'd have to learn to bend by sensing like Toph, by the heat and energy in people steadied by the Earth's core and the sun.
- Bloodbending could have taken in a darker more warlike effect on Katara, as she realizes she can become one of the most powerful waterbenders with bloodbending. As for Sokka, he would grow into a very esteemed Chief and warrior of the Water Tribes. Warriors aren't exactly kind in wars, and with Suki at his side that just makes for a dynamic fighting couple that wasn't touched on nearly as much. I feel like a lot could be played with them being more mature.
- Azula is actually a CHILD in the show, she's only 14! A fourteen year-old prodigy who was raised essentially to be just like her father, Ozai. There still could've been a change in her, if maybe she managed to grow through her own journey. Or even more immensely, dealed with her "insanity". But what if she was able to change, if only a little?
- Ba Sing Se was burned down in the last episode, and the war rages on; resulting in the GAang having to seriously go into the deep end of battle.
There are so many things that could be done. Also, when the GAang (so to speak) grows up into their young adulthood lives; surely it isn't all peace from there on out. Or if they had been forced into war in some way, say Sokka is recruited for the front line? Or Jet never actually died? Or if Toph's ability to sense people's stability through vibrations was explored even more? Or if Ozai was able to enact a war despite being a nonbender (starting the beginning of the nonbender revolution.).......
