A Strange Day At The Cafe

In the bustling city of Tokyo, near the heart of the city, there exist a quiet little street named Haven Street. At the corner of the street exist a special little cafe, Cafe Noir, though one glance at this cafe and others would think it was just a bland store. The reason why Cafe Noir was so special is because its a cafe that served both monsters and humans. This is one of the few places were monsters and humans can co-exist in peace, no social status required. Everyone here is welcome to enjoy the delectable sweets and the sweet aroma of the coffee beverages. This was one of the many days that the cafe wasn't packed with customers, their few customers were eager to taste the sweets that they have become addicted to.

Every 2 minutes the door leading to the kitchen would pop open and the staff would come running out with what the clients ordered. There were only 4 workers that worked at the cafe, they were working diligently to the bone. It wasn't because of the amount of customers that had them so tired, it was because they ordered many sweets from the menu and it took time to deliver all their meals. After the last customer left out the door, it was time for the lunch break for everyone in the cafe.

At long last the break-time had come, it was like a sacred time that had been devoted to regaining what you just lost. It wasn't that he'd lost a ton of energy from fighting off a rowdy customer, rather he had lost half the days worth of energy running cakes and other sweets to table 4. Who knew that a gaping maw demon could eat nearly forty-four thousand yen worth of sweets? It wasn't something you got to witness everyday, along with something you wouldn't want to clean up after every day. The cafe was empty now, the last customer in here hadn't been a problem child so now was the time for him to relax a little bit. Well at least until the hour-long break was up and all, so he sat down at one of the couples tables. He did this namely because the seats were always a bit more comfortable on them than elsewhere, he could never explain why though.

Laying his head down atop his hands he took in the cool feeling of the unused table, it was a nice feeling in comparison to the heat he'd built up from running orders. It had been a year or two since he'd gotten the job here, the willingness of the two owners to help him out had been an unexpected kindness. At the time he had been dipping into what his inheritance could offer just to survive, so a job in general was a much nicer thing than you could imagine. Granted the profession that he and his parents initially pursued yielded quite allot of income, it still would only last for so long. The coolness swarmed his mind now as he just relaxed against the slowly warming exterior of the table, he assumed that everyone else would be making the most of their break time as well. So maybe this would turn out as an even better chance to relax than he originally thought.

Another thought crossed his mind, this was supposed to be a lunch break wasn't it? He had neglected to go to lunch the past few days he'd worked, that in tandem with skipping breakfast might have been why his energy was on the lower side. On the bright side he had been eating quite well when dinner time came around. But that wasn't important right now, sitting up he glanced around the cafe at the empty cafe. It was remarkably peaceful right now, something he enjoyed quite a bit in all honesty. Given how calm the day had been, along with the lack of problem customers, maybe today was a good day for him to go out and actually get lunch? The thought having taken hold he now stood and pushed the chair back in before thinking of what he should get and from where. Hopefully his absence for a bit wouldn't cause any issues for the owners or their daughter.

Today had been rather busy for the cafe, who knew that a werewolf would order so many raw steak cookies? Just thinking about it made Suni grateful that she was a vegetarian for once, the strong smell of meat coming from that dish was disgusting. Besides the smell she didn't mind eating vegetables, they were all delicious to her and she wasn't too pick on the matter. Feeling her stomach growl with hunger from just thinking about food, Suni rolled up her sleeves and set to work. Taking the remaining of the dishes into the kitchen, Suni set them down next to the sink. She proceed to give a quick greeting to the chef before waling out of the kitchen, towards the tables.

Time didn't pass quickly while the girl cleaned the tables, sweeping the floor, and carrying the garbage outside to the large dumpster in the back of the alley. Seeing that Ryu was already resting on the table, she decided to pull a little prank on him. After pretending to sweep around the table for awhile, she spotted her chance to surprise him when he sat up from the table. Placing the broom next to a clean table, Suni instantly turned around and headed towards Ryu's table. "Ryuuuuu~! Hug chu!" Not even giving a second thought in her mind, she backed up before letting out a full sprint towards the table.

It didn't take much speed for the girl to jump up and land square on his lap, leaving a small "POOF" sound in the air. "I missed you this morning! Do you want to get some food?" She was curious if he wanted to accompany her out for lunch, seeing as he has been skipping lunch as of late.

Ryuu
Yuu had decided that stretching was a good option in the end, so his arms spread outward and quickly came to their full wingspan as he felt his joints pop and loosen up a little bit. It was a nice feeling all-in-all, one that let him feel like he wasn't contained by a butlers outfit as badly. Granted he was still stuck in that outfit for the moment being, it was just a little bit of comfort to think that he could unwind slightly on their relatively short break and that maybe he wouldn't have as much to deal with in the later portion of his shift. If he had to say the worst part of it, it would have to be the dull pain near the bottom of his spine- it felt like a marble was being pressed against him continuously. While it wasn't exactly a hard press it still presented quite the effectiveness in being annoying.

The sound of bristles against the floor was nice though, the soft sounds of sweeping made their way into his mind and worked towards soothing the tired and somewhat famished individual. His stomach growled lowly, though it was fairly quiet so that wasn't going to be an issue. A moment later and a sudden impact had occurred, granted it felt like someone had just chucked a bag of sugar or something so it didn't provide any pain. After the initial shock he glanced down a little to the girl in his lap, "I walked by you at least twenty times this morning you silly girl." He reached a hand up and gently flicked her on the forehead. He didn't do it hard enough to actually bring harm or leave a mark of any form. "I was just thinking of grabbing a bite to eat as is, did you have anything in mind?" He prompted and shifted a little in the seat.

Given that he now had to account for two bodies worth of weight he had to sit a bit differently, mainly because he didn't want her to feel awkward sitting there or maybe it was just that he'd been too polite to ask her to move. Her family had employed him in this day and age after what happened in the past, so acting as a cushion for someone to sit on wouldn't loose him any sleep.

Suni was comfortable sitting on his lap, it held a strange softness like a chair and it didn't bother her like the other chairs in the room. She enjoyed the feeling while snickering to herself about surprising Ryu, thinking that he was uncomfortable with her on his lap. Though that appeared not the be the case, unfortunately her plan failed as he wasn't even bothered by her weight on his lap. That was one of the reasons she was caught off guard when Ryu decided to flick her forehead, she was surprised. The girl held her forehead after Ryu had flicked her, her expression turned into a pout.

"Ah hehe! Well you know how I space out... You didn't even try to talk to me this morning anyway!" She stuck out her tongue at him in a childish manner. Wrapping her arms around his neck Suni brought herself closer to his head, her lips just centimeters away from his. "I was thinking going over to Butterfly Garden? Or June Summer for lunch...do you have anything you want to eat?" Both places were about a block away from the cafe, they were pretty popular with both human and monster elitist, though she preferred Butterfly Garden because of the chinese themed interior. Suni smiled playfully at him, before leaning in behind his ear and delivering a quick kiss.

"Smoooch Chu~~ Can't catch me! Come and get me if you dare~!" Jumping off Ryu's lap, she immediately dashed away from the table heading towards the front door. She was hoping that he would chase after her, that would totally be a really fun game until they reached the restaurant. Great way to pass the time in her eyes.

Ryuu
Ryuu had watched her carefully, specifically in reaction to his flick. In most cases he wouldn't care if he flicked someone and left a mark of some form, but in the case of Suni it was a bit different. She was a sweet girl, one who quite honestly appeared to have a heart made of gold in the time he knew her, and the purity she seemed to exude was something strange to him. Not because it was weird for a girl her age to be pure or anything, he was just used to being around the dark and powerful type auras that served as an early warning to the foreboding danger that would soon await him. But the way she seemed to innocent and sweet, he felt the need to protect that innocence for some reason- maybe it was a sense of duty, or maybe... just maybe. It was a way for atonement.

The pouting lip she gave though made him rethink his decisions, his facial expression threatened to shift to that of worry for a moment before standing firm. Her face had suddenly gotten allot closer and the feeling of softness of the back of his neck immediately resonated with him, she was doing one of the things he'd come to know her for. Despite the fact that he'd never seen her with another friend, he assumed that this was just a standard thing for her to act like. A slightly strange sensation his hit body as the area behind his ear felt warm, it was warm and stuck to his head for a moment before pulling away again. A kiss? It wasn't an unpleasant feeling by any means, but it wasn't something he'd expected and quite frankly it appeared to catch him more off guard than that of her leaping at him. The scene causing him to loose cognition on most of what else she had to say.

A moment later and he'd restored himself to his thoughts, "Uh- yeah. Either of those sounds good with me, I'll let you choose which one though. You were the one to invite me out on this 'date' and all." He stated as he stood to his feet and pushed the chair in behind himself, turning he could already see her bolting towards the door with the claims that he needed to catch her or something along those lines. "Don't run in the building at least." A small smile graced his features as he shook his head and pursued her, he would be fine with chasing after her after they got out of the building. But until then he was still in a fairly serious mode. "Besides, what do I even get if I do catch you?"

D-Date? What makes you think this is a date? Suni thought to herself as she sprinted further away from the table, blush evident on her face. "Hey! I won't run in the building mom-" Suni almost stopped dead in her tracks when she heard Ryu speak about a reward, tripping over her shoes but managing to catch herself beforehand. She hadn't really thought of anything in return if Ryuu caught her, she would have to think of something he would like. Nothing truly came to mind in those seconds as she pulled open the door to let herself out, keeping the door open so he could still hear her.

An idea stuck in her mind as she waited for him to come out of the cafe, her cheeks appeared to be light pink the more she thought about it. "Hmmm if you get to catch me then.... your reward is a request! I'll do anything that you will request of me. If I win then I get to request anything from you." Suni hoped that she was loud enough so she wouldn't have to repeat herself, it was already embarrassing enough to utter those words out her mouth. A feeling of determination began to spread through her as she began to think of ways to beat Ryu. She maybe small but she wasn't as athletic as Ryuu was, but she could use her height as an advantage and slip away from him whenever he got too close.

Seeing as he was nearing the door, Suni began to ready herself to sprint away from the danger that is Ryuu. "You could probably give me a kiss back! It's only fair...." She mumbled this part as she took off running down the street, her hand unconsciously touching her lips. A part of her wanted him to catch her, but that would be no fun if she made it as easy as that. Picking up her pace, she began to run at a steady speed to the corner of the intersection.

Stepping out of the doorway Ryuu shut the door behind him and watched as Suni ran for a moment, on one hand his fingers slowly began to count upwards to five. It wouldn't be fair of him to go automatically after all, he'd have to give her some form of a handicap. Three... four.... five. As the time finally hit it's mark he surged forward, his body moved quite quickly down the street and given the time they'd been allowed out it was surprising that no one was out here to run into them. The words she said stuck in his mind for a moment, he had permission to request anything from her. A few thoughts began to cross his mind, there were so many things he could request and yet most of them wouldn't do him much good but in that moment. His hair moved about quite a bit as he continued to run forward, based on his head and neck it was almost like he wasn't beginning to sweat at all. Granted it was only one block.

His footfalls were a bit quicker in pace than Suni's had been, and given his height he could close the distance on her with relative ease. His icy blue eyes glanced towards the yellow-haired girl, she reminded him of the sheep he had once chased through the forest in the distant past. It's fleece had been a bright gold and it ran in a strange patter, but never once did it trip or fall. He had probably chased that sheep for twenty minutes before finally catching it, but even at that point he didn't know which way went home and which way led deeper into the woods. The sound of a car moving aside to him quickly tore him from those memories as he saw just how much distance was between Suni and himself. The ending result was a few feet at best, "I didn't imagine you'd challenge me of all people to something like this"

A smirk came to his lips, a confident expression, "Well I guess I'll be taking that request... Now!" He stated as his hand lurched forward in and attempts to pick the girl up. More than likely he would end up with him missing the first grab, but that was fine. He could come back from such a thing with ease if he needed to. For now all he had to do was keep pace with the girl and make sure he didn't run over her in the events of her tripping, though at that point he'd have an automatic win.

Suni took off running, letting her feet carry her down the sidewalk far from the cafe. This wasn't the fastest she could run but she was pushing it, eager to gain any lead she could on Ryuu. Of course a race down the block to the restaurant wasn't going to take much time, however with such a disadvantage she was in... anything was really needed. She didn't hear any footsteps behind her, so she hesitantly took a glance over her shoulder. There was Ryuu quickly gaining on her position as he looked like a track star running a 100 mm sprint, she could see the determination in his eyes. She squealed a little, making the noise sound as if she was a baby piglet.

Oh crap! Oh crap! Oh crap! Gotta go fast! These thoughts kept repeating in her head as Ryuu's image slowly morphed from a young boy to that of a stone ball, similar to that in the movie Indiana Jones. "Ah... I thought it was a nice day outside so we could use some exercise." Suni quickly responded to him, trying to hide the shakiness in her voice. She quickly dodged his outstretched hand, bending her legs so she could be even shorter and turning the corner. The other side of the block was a rather big hill, with the rest of the restaurants sitting on top of the mount.

Now in a car it wouldn't be as difficult to go up the hill but for a person walking, even worse running, it felt like a chore. "Ha! Try and get me! You missed!" The young girl taunted him as she ran up the base of the hill. She tried her best to push her legs even faster, but with the steep hill in front of them, that was rather difficult. Her leg muscles were already beginning to reach their limit when she reached the slope, making her speed slow down rapidly.

Ryuu
Continuing in his stride he noticed that she seemed to squat, which threw off his reach in specific. If he had took that time to reach out and commit to the grab then he'd likely pull her hair rather than catch her. So instead he pulled his hand away and continued after the girl, quickly turning the corner he had not gotten a little ways behind her. Or at least he thought he had, it seemed that the hill before them was doing a number on her endurance. The fact of that alone caused a small smirk to etch it's way into his lips once more, he'd seen her running around on the constant but this looked like she was running out of all her energy. Well she'd at least be able to rest a little as they ate, so that was a positive for them both. More for her than for him, but he was still glad to have the break from customers- and a little bit of time to recover lost calories would probably be for the best in the current situation.

Given how she appeared, she wasn't quite ready to give in and just get caught. In a situation like this, sometimes being a bit unreasonable or flashy was needed to obtain the objective. Or at least to get to the end of your mission, his objective hadn't changed this entire time- he still had to capture Suni. "Well it is a beautiful day outside. I can hear some birds singing in the distance even. Though there's another sound I think I hear" With that he picked up speed once more, the hill seemed like little more than a minor obstacle to him- if anything it was something he'd trained aptly for in his earlier years. Due to that the distance between him and the target closed with an immense speed, arguably one that shouldn't have been possible in normal circumstances.

"I think it's called- Surprise!" He emphasized and used one arm to sweep her legs out from under her, the other moving to catch her upper body as he continued forward. His pace slowing down to a walk after a moment as he now held the fairly small girl in a 'princess carry'. Continuing up the hill with her like this his eyes remained forward, gazing up to ensure they didn't run into any pedestrians in their antics. "We'll call this one a draw, that hill came out of nowhere after all." He teased this with full knowledge on what it meant, or rather what it meant in his mind, to him this was the method where a rematch was likely- or she might decide to complain about it which would make him admit victory. Regardless of the outcome, it was a win for him. With that in mind he continued the rest of the way up the hill, still carrying her like that.

Suni wasn't so confident that she could flat out outrun Ryuu, just the toll of cafe service today whipped most her energy from her body. Hearing his banter behind her wasn't helping her situation at all, if anything it was making her even more tired. "Ah... I don't think I can even go on anymore..." Just when she thought she was going to pass out from exhaustion, the young girl felt her legs being dragged underneath her. She felt as if she had been thrown up into the air, and as a result, her body tensed up and she automatically shut her eyes. The mere few seconds of feeling no ground underneath her feet was slightly terrifying, though she wouldn't admit it to Ryuu.

Only when she felt the comfort of his arms did she decide to relax in his embrace, her body completely loosened up. "Okay... fine you win!" Suni leaned her body closer to his chest, feeling the warmth pour out of him. Once they reached the doors of the restaurant, Suni hopped out of his arms and began to pull down her skirt. In front of them was an orange haired woman wearing a simple qipao, attached to her clothing was displayed the name 'Kia Summers'. "Ni Hao, I am the hostess for this evening! Welcome to Butterfly Garden, do you two have a reservation by chance or are you both walk-ins?" Kai directed their attention towards the other end of the lobby, where at least 10 people were waiting in line.

Before the hostess could begin to speak again about the walk-in line, Suni quickly spoke up. "Hello yes! We have a reservation under the name Hana." Luckily she was smart enough to reserve a table in advance a month ago, the cost wasn't as high as it is now. The price back then was $300, it took her several days of overtime to accumulate that much money. No matter the cost nor the effort, it was worth it to Suni as she wanted to spend lunch with Ryuu. If he would ask about it later then she would just tell him that the reservation's cost was very cheap, besides she also had a discount coupon.

The hostess looked down at her long sheet, her delicate eyes scanning every each of the paper. Her eyes seemingly lit up in excitement when she glanced back up at the pair. "Reservations for 2, yes? I have your table right here, please follow me." The hostess gestured them to follow her, as she held up their table menus, with a warm smile. The hostess began to lead them through the maze of chairs and tables, until they came upon a table in the far corner. The table was far away from the noisiness of the kitchen and the front end of the restaurant, perfect for people that want some privacy. Next to the table was a massive fish tank built into the wall, all types of fishes were swimming calmly inside.

Victory had been achieved, so that was one weight off of Ryuu's shoulders and instead another against his chest. Upon getting to the entrance he felt Suni moving free from his arms, so after she'd stood they went slack to his sides instead. The woman who greeted them appeared to be rather friendly, though he was more focused on Suni and her following statement. A reservation under the name 'Hana', the name sounded familiar for some reason but it wasn't her name... at least not from what he remembered. Glancing down to her he tried to see if she responded in any particular way- from the looks of it she was perfectly normal in this situation. Maybe it was just a nickname that she'd come to enjoy? Or maybe even a pet's name... people put reservations in under their pet's name right? Regardless of what it may have been, that wouldn't be important right now; instead he followed after his coworker and their waitress.

As they walked his eyes wandered, the area they moved past was decorated rather interestingly. Symbols of dragons and the taijitu making themselves known on decor within the facility, a very prominent piece about the room had to have been the amount of red. It definitely felt like a fancier Chinese place, given the waiting line they had a pretty large store... and with the decor it was probably on the higher end of pricing. That in itself prompted a little worry from him, his eyes moved down to Suni once more. How much had she paid to get a reservation here? Once more his eyes drifted, but this time to a being rather than an inanimate object, the waitress caught his attention. Her hair was fashioned into two buns, and based on looks alone she was quite cute. Her outfit wasn't something he saw too often, but it teased a little much in the way of skin- for any normal teenage boy he'd probably be having a nosebleed. But Ryuu could contain himself, though his nose did warm up for a second.

Rounding a corner the fish-tank immediately caught his attention. As they approached their table he managed to peel his eyes from the darting colors of fish and instead look towards his coworker. "So is Hana a nickname you have? Maybe even a pet's name?" He asked in a slightly quieter voice. He didn't wish to disturb the waitress as she led them, namely because he felt that would be a tad rude to her. His eyes glanced to their waitress for a second, though he had to look up a little more at her, then back down to Suni. "Also- Did you plan to have me go to lunch with you today? Or do you normally make reservations for two when you go to lunch?" Each of the questions were prompted for a specific reason, he didn't really need to know the answers to them- but he felt like if he could get that honesty out of her then figuring out how much he was giving her from his upcoming paycheck wouldn't be too difficult.

He didn't stare at Suni though, deciding that it might appear that he was flirting or something- he couldn't tarnish her reputation like that. So instead he averted his gaze towards the fish off in the distance, his eyes followed one fish around for a few seconds before he took a glance ahead of them. He wouldn't bump into anyone himself, basic perception would let him stop if that were the case. He couldn't stop someone else from running into him though, that was the unaccounted variable. "How many species of fish do you think are in there?" Another question that was little more than small talk came from him. A clever plan in it's own right, a trap to catch Suni the moment she slipped up. Then again, she wasn't a dull girl- so maybe she'd already caught onto what he was doing at this point... or maybe she was upset from him winning earlier? That he didn't know, but he was certain that he'd find out.

Suni followed the waitress as she led them to their table, listening in on Ryuu as they walked. She decided that she would wait until they were comfortable first before answering any of the questions turning in his mind. Once the pair were near the table Kai spoke in a soft but firm voice, "If you need anything please ring the bell, your personal waitress will be here shortly. Have a nice date you two lovebirds, enjoy the food."

With that the hostess spun on her heel and walked away, leaving the two young adults to fed for themselves. Suni immediately took the liberty to sit down on the sofa chair, resting her aching feet from all that running. There was a tad of blush evident on her face from the hostess words. "I simply had a discount here and it was very cheap to pay, no biggie. If you are thinking of paying me back in anyway then there is no need." She had no need for any payment as this was her surprise to him.

It was the truth but also left out some information, she just hoped he wouldn't prye any further. "A-Ah well look at the time- Oh look fish! Do you enjoy the restaurant so far?" Suni tried changing the topic of the reservation to something else. She looked at he fish tank, countless number of fish were swimming around making it hard to see. "Well... i think i saw a pufferfish in the tank. I'm not sure how many fish are actually in the tank but they look pretty cool."

"Hmm you wanted to know about Hana? Well... I only use it from time to time. It's not a nickname by any means. Do you have any nicknames Ryuu?" Suni glanced back at Ryuu, smiling kindly at him. In all honesty this was very far from the truth. Truth be told if she were to say 'oh yeah im a famous online writer' to him, that wouldn't blow over so well.

Ryuu looked to the waitress as she began to walk away from the two of them. A date? His gaze shifted to Suni and he noticed the blush that had appeared on her face at this point. Being off in a secluded area with a mildly romantic atmosphere, all the while going to a reservation in a rather upstanding facility. Taking a seat he continued to think about it, she started off by telling him that she had a discount to this place. He pondered for a moment as his eyes remained on the fish, that's when it hit him. "A couples discount." He uttered as the thought crossed his mind now. He sat there for a moment in silence, well he was silent, and listened to what she said. Her comment about a puffer fish prompted a rather curious side of him, and he began to seek through the crowds of other fish carefully. Soon it had appeared and he turned back to face the girl who was smiling in his direction.

"Well the aesthetic of the place is certainly nice. It's not surprising that they offer a couples discount when they have an area like this available." He smiled in return, for all he knew that was the kind of discount that Suni had gone for and he was just the guy so that it could keep being faked. She did have that sort of tact with people, dealing with customers she'd always seemed to say the right things or simply act in the right way to make them listen. They never did that for him unless he cracked them in the head beforehand. "Nicknames- Heh.... Well I do have a few but they're not really ones I gained from family or friends." He glanced around and couldn't spot anyone who might understand what he was referring to, and it was doubted that they would take kindly to him if they did. "Names of infamy I guess you could say" He said in a lower tone before leaning back in his chair a little bit and sighing, deciding that it wouldn't be worth it to worry her he instead decided to steer the conversation away from that topic.

He took a moment to think through what he should say before deciding to speak, "So uh- what do you usually get from this place?" He poised the question without much discomfort as he began to look through one of the menus they'd been given. There were quite a few options on the menu, some sticking out more than others, and after a moment he sat it back down again and returned his attention to the girl before him. Sometimes he wondered what she might be hiding, but he also realized that secrets were important- digging into someone else's secrets was just asking for disaster.

Was it that obvious that she liked him? Even the hostess was commenting on their "lovey dovey" atmosphere was embarrassing. Besides this fact, she was still debating whether her like was "like as a friend" or "like as in love". This was confusing to her, she's never really experienced these feelings before and she didn't know where her heart stood. Not to mention what Ryuu felt for her. "Yep, it was a couples discount! You completely caught me..." Suni felt bad for lying but she really was backed into a corner. The hostess had assumed that they were dating on her own accord, she didn't even use that kind of discount from their services. Ah what a mess this was becoming, she just wanted to dig herself a hole and get buried underneath.

Well at least this gave her a way out from having to explain herself, she always had difficulty from being in trouble which involved lots of rambling. "Yeah the decor here is really pretty, makes me wish that we could visit here again ya know."Suni tried to incorporate herself back into the conversation, after zoning out for a bit. Hearing him discuss nicknames, she wanted to ask him if it was okay for her to give him a nickname, to which she decided against it. Even then she just didn't have much courage when requesting things from others; an example of this would be asking for help. "Ah! The dumplings here are to die for! I always order them as a side dish! But you should try the sweet and sour pork, I heard it's really good too!" Suni clapped her hands together as she excitedly mentioned the topic of food.

She was happy that he seemed to have found an interest in the food; the food being served here was indeed delicious. "Oh and don't worry about the bill too! It's my treat!" Hearing several approaching footsteps, Suni looked towards the sound of the noise. The hostess had returned to their section, although for a different reason, to show a group their table. "Right this way. Your table is here, if you need anything don't be afraid to signal any of the waitresses to come fetch me." Kai was showing the group their seats, right behind the pair of coworkers. There appeared to be six people, among them were three people dressed in fancy clothing.

The one that sticked out the most, a black haired girl, looked around their age but she was giving off this mysterious aura around her as if she weren't suited for casual discussion. After the group was seated and handed their own menus to look over, the hostess processed to walk away back to the front. "Looks like we're not alone anymore though. It was nice while it lasted, don't you think?" Suni hid the disappoint in her voice, instead burying her head behind the menu.

Ryuu
"I feel like that's what the guy is supposed to say in situations like this" Ryuu joked back, besides he didn't mind paying his own way if it came to it. He had honestly expected to go and eat on his own for the majority of his break time, so just the fact that he'd been invited out to go somewhere as fancy as this had been a shocker to him. But making her pay the bill on her own seemed a bit cruel, he knew all-too-well how much they were paid... or at least what he was. The mention of specific food options prompted him to examine the menu and try to figure out more about them than he knew prior, neither sounded like a bad idea- and after a moment or two his mind was made up. The sound of footsteps was accompanied by a cold chill that ran down his spine, the hairs on the back of his neck felt like they were sticking up- an expression of course. Glancing towards the hostess his eyes caught with one of the groups members before they each parted ways again.

Being sat behind him that faint presence that he'd felt from when they had first entered only served to magnify by a hundred percent. The intense presence caused his left hand to form a tightly knit fist, there was a group of powerful monsters behind them right now. From what he could tell they weren't deviants but he couldn't be certain that it wasn't an act. Closing his eyes for a moment he exhaled and managed to release the tension in his hand, when his eyes opened again he could see that Suni's eyes were downcast into the menu. "Yeah... but that's the reason to enjoy it while it lasts" he responded slightly quieter than his normal voice. Behind him he could hear whispering about something, but he couldn't quite make out what. So instead he gave it the benefit of the doubt and assumed that it wasn't necessary for him to know. Among the group of strong presences two stood out stronger than the rest.

One radiated from the black-haired girl who sat there, the other from the blonde boy who sat there. He seemed to have something strange about him, Ryuu glanced back to them for a moment. One of the other four looked at him and quickly turned to his companion as Ryuu turned back around, slate gray eyes weren't a common feature in people- so if they recognized him then he wouldn't be too surprised. He had confirmed his suspicion though, they were monsters. He didn't think pushing his luck with them would do any good, so instead his attention mostly focused on his coworker again. "I think I made up my mind on what I want to get, have you decided on anything in specific yet?" He prompted to try and urge their conversation onward. Though his attention wasn't fully on the conversation, he was showcasing that he was mostly focused on it. Or as focused as he could be when his sense for a powerful monster had begun going off the charts.

"Ha- I guess so-- Err... you really don't need to pay, I got it covered. So just go wild and order whatever you want, today's my treat!" Suni's cheerful smile seemed to grow bigger as she insisted to him that he didn't need to pay. Even though they weren't paid much, at least it was above minimum wage, she still wanted to use her own money for their outing and not rely on Ryuu so much. Since her head was hiding behind the menu, she figured that she might as well look at the menu to see what she wanted. "Hmm everything looks so good... I want to try everything but for now I just want the veggie soup." Suni could feel her mouth water as she glanced at each description of the meal, her stomach started to growl more frequent from the illustrations.

She was ignorant to what was happening with Ryuu as her head was still buried in the menu, instead she began to hum a tune from her memories. Eventually her head did leave the confines of the menu, leaving a somewhat awkward vibe around their table without even meaning to do so. The young girl didn't know how to carry a conversation but she wanted to put forth some type of effort since it was just the two of them. "Uhm.... Ryuu do you read any books? What's your favorite genre?" Taking the bell into her hand, Suni began to gently grasp the base while jiggle the bell to make it ring softly.

After placing the bell down she was surprised to see another person standing at their table so quickly, assuming them to be the waiter. Maybe it wasn't her paying so close to detail but clearly the woman wasn't a server at the establishment, instead she looked like a customer. Just when Suni was about to open her mouth the business-like female said, "Hello sorry to bother you to from your lunch but my mistress has requested the presence of the young male at the table. Can we borrow him?"

Ryuu listened to the entire area around them, though Suni was the main focus of it he couldn't deny that it wasn't all on her. Something did click in his mind though, Suni had commented in the past about being a vegetarian- so the menu was probably far more restrictive on her than it was on him. Looking back to the menu for a moment he noticed that a large sum of them were focused around their meats, there were some that lacked it though- and she could probably ask for it without meat. "Books? Well I read allot of sci-fi a few years back, though I think fantasy is closer to my favorite." He stated with a small smile as she lifted the bell, one of the presences began to move but he feigned ignorance, his shoulder visibly tensed a little for a moment though as he stilled his reaction.

In the shop he wouldn't usually be as on edge as he was in the current moment, mainly because that was his home turf more or less- he was hired to defend it partially after all. Shifting his gaze to the side he stared at the female who'd just made herself known, She implied that he was needed over at the other table- the table filled with monsters. Glancing back to Suni he was checking for anything that she would have to say- but in the end it was his word that they'd probably listen to. "A bit of an odd request from a stranger I'd say." A slight smile present on his face, whether it was truth or lie was smeared into a mess of gray as the expression told nothing. Turning he looked back to Suni again, "I'll be back in just a moment, if the waitress returns before I do then just get me an order of pork dumplings." He spoke casually before standing and stepping out from his table.

He knew all too well what table they were going to, but feigned ignorance in knowing. "Lead the way" he would state simply before following the lady to the table, it wasn't that far away but he still figured it would be good to act this out rather than be some omniscient being. Upon their arrival to the table he would look at the group closer, his eyes skimming over each one as he began to realize what he walked in on, an heir to the throne of monsters. His eyes attempted to go wide for a second but that ambition was snuffed out hastily as he kept them calm in appearance. "Good afternoon, Why did you need to see me for?" he prompted to the table rather than to an individual.

Suni listened as he stated his favorite genre of books. She kept a mental record of what to buy him as a gift for their next outing together, hopefully it would be sometime soon. When the woman showed up asking for Ryuu she couldn't say that she wasn't confused in that moment. Even more so when Ryuu accepted the invitation and left the table, leaving a slight ache in her heart. "A-Ah okay... have a nice time." She still seemed happy as she watched Ryuu walk away from the table, despite bottling up the sadness in her heart. To admit she was upset or pretend that she wasn't bothered by him leaving? She didn't know what was the correct path, so she chose the one that would make him less affected.

Soon enough a black haired girl appeared at their table, wearing the traditional qipao dress just like the hostess in the front. "Hello I am Sevah, your waitress for the evening. Are you ready to order?" The young woman had her notepad in hand as she addressed Suni in a formal way. She glanced up at the waitress as she handed her both the menus from the table. "I will have bowl of miso soup and a plate of pork dumplings. For drinks I will have 2 cups of water and sweet tea, each with the meals please." Suni tried her best to pick out the drinks. She didn't know whether or not he liked sweet tea like she did; so she got him both sweet tea and water.

Sevah nodded as her pen flawlessly glided across the paper as she wrong down everything she had said. Once she was done and confirmed the orders, the waitress walked away leaving Suni alone at the table once more. While waiting for their food and drinks, Suni began to watch the fish swim around in the tank instead. "Ah I just wanted to spend time with him... my heart won't stop hurting. This really sucks." Suni commented this to herself. She counted at least twelve goldfish in the tank in the time that Ryuu had left, all various colors and sizes, even some having shimmering rainbow scales.

Ryuu looked at the members of the table he could identify exactly what kind of monster each of them was just by seeing how they appeared to be, a talent he'd picked up from being in the past profession he was in. Glancing to one of the further members of the table he noticed the gentlemen grab a fork and then have it sucked into his body, that would undoubtedly be a slime- eating forks was a very common thing for them, and it even worked as bait for some strange reason. The thanks from the princess had been something strange to him, and honestly a bit suspicious if he had to be honest. The request she made had been something even stranger, the request for him to become a friend of hers- it had to have been a trap right? The shocked expressions from the others pushed against such an ideal, it wasn't likely that he'd been led into a trap of some form.

"Isn't that moving a bit quickly for someone you haven't spoken with for more than a moment" He jested in return to what he assumed was a joke, it didn't make sense of her to approach him with an offer of friendship so quickly- unless it was a trap that even her accomplices hadn't picked up on. It wouldn't be unusual for the royal powers of the monster realm to hide things from their supporters, the same could be said for those in power over the human realm, but he decided that feigning ignorance would yield the best results on that. "While I wouldn't mind having another friend, we should start out as acquaintances or something on a smaller level. Friendship should be grown after all, not a split decision." He suggested before reaching into his pocket and fumbling around for a moment, he noticed a few of her guards become wary but didn't cease what he was doing. After a moment he produced his smartphone from his pocket, it wasn't anything exquisite since it just looked to be a black smartphone but on the back was a strange white rune.

"Exchanging cell-phone numbers is a start to that. I'm usually found working at Cafe Noir, and not to be rude or anything but... Our lunch break is fairly short, so I should probably return to my table and eat soon." His words appeared to hold no knowledge of them being monsters, despite the fact that he'd just watched on of them eat a fork with his hand and seen a glimpse of another ones fangs. Now all that he could do was await what their response would be, his contact info remaining open on his phone throughout all of this.

While Ryuu was still at the other table, the drinks did arrive sooner than expected, leaving Suni with four drinks at the table. Sticking two stars in each of the iced teas, she placed the other on the side where Ryuu would've been sitting. "Ah I just wish I had more confidence in myself. Right now we could be talking about all sorts of things and yet he's somewhere else with other people..." She whispered this to herself as she began to twist around the straw in the beverage. What was love? What was loneliness? It was true that she wanted to get to know him better but could she consider it to be love?

She began to start think that her feelings were just showing the phases of friendship, she was confusing those feelings for love. This was confusing to the young girl, maybe she just shouldn't think about such things now. Feeling her stomach start to growl, Suni slightly blushed while taking a glance around the room. She just needed to focus on something else that could distract her from her own hunger. This took the form of counting the fish in the tank and drinking some of her iced tea; to which she enjoyed the sweet taste for once. As time passed the waitress eventually showed up, carrying their steaming hot food and setting it on the table.

Sevah handed the young girl two spoons before backing away from the table. "Thank you again, enjoy the rest of your day." Suni smiled at the monster girl, earning a wink from the waitress. "Here you go! I hope you enjoy your meals, if you need anything else just ring the bell." Sevah politely bowed towards the table before setting off to her next assignment. While watching the waitress walk away from the table, she spotted another girl with blonde hair walking towards their direction. She figured that she was the waitress for the other table that just arrived.

He figured that his notion would simply have him dismissed from the table, mainly because it could be considered a rather rude thing more than anything. Yet she didn't seem to be too keen on doing such, instead she had exercised a surprising amount of patience with him and his sudden requests. A few shifty glances had been shot his way but just as quickly he dismissed them from his care since these were mere guards, they mattered to the monster world but he could just as easily dispatch them if need be- hopefully it wouldn't come to that again. Glancing to the side again he noticed the gaze of the slime, it seemed to recalls something about him, or maybe it knew more than it had been letting on to begin with- either way had been beyond his knowledge. They were behaving as he'd expected them to, none showing resentment towards humans or anything of that genre.

As the paper made it's way to the end of the table his ash gray eyes, seemingly filled with a smoke, caught hold of the two rubies looking at him. Her eyes were of course as unnatural as his in this human world, but that didn't change the fact of what followed through. Reflected in them a thought burned into his mind, a memory resurrecting from the depths where he'd buried it prior. A bead of cold sweat moved down his neck as the thought had come to light, so he averted his gaze to the paper and picked it up. Taking a moment he folded it diligently, each crease precise and careful, before putting it in his pocket. "Human customs are definitely a different from those of others, but that's why the coexistence agreement was signed- to meld the two traditions into one conjoined effort. Oh-" He paused before reaching into his pocket and producing a small white card, a business card. Rather than handing it across and appearing rude, he leaned forward a little and set it on the table- as close to the princess as he could without revealing the skin of his neck or arms as the clothing pulled back from the movement. "That's the business card for the establishment I work at. Feel free to come by if you'd like, If you're looking for me than just ask for Ryuu and they'll send me your way if I'm not too busy" He offered with a smile before taking a step back and bowing to her and the group.

"A pleasure to meet you, Your majesty" he stated simply before standing and walking off in the other direction. Letting them know that he knew them was probably unnecessary, but they had pulled him- a human to the side. Besides that they'd pulled him rather than literally any of the other human diners in this area. What had been the intentions of the vampiric royals? They likely had no background on him so worrying was not a part of his agenda. He shelved the idea for a time where he would be able to worry about it and continued back to the table he'd left Suni at. Spotting the waitresses walking around he caught ones eye before they went back to work, and he back to the table. "Hey Suni, Sorry about that. One of the other patrons recognized me from my previous occupation- so I had to handle that." He spoke a simple half-truth, it seemed best in the current situation. "I see that the food showed up in my absence too, doesn't look like you got started without me though- are you feeling ok?" He asked and leaned in a little bit.

Suni took a glance towards the steaming hot food in front of her, she felt her mouth began to water. However she knew it would be impolite to start eating without Ryuu so she disciplined herself, it took all she had, not to attack the food in front of her. Hearing footsteps approach the table, the young girl glanced up to see that Ryuu had finally returned to their table. "Oh I see... well..." She didn't really have anything to comment about, so she simply nodded. As he was leaning closer to her, she could've sworn her heart skipped a beat in that second. Inside her mind she was freaking out but in reality, she managed to keep a small smile on her face.

Her mood seemed to drastically improve when he returned from his business at the other table. "A-Ah I'm perfectly okay! No need to worry, I waited on you to return before eating." Suni stammered as she spoke, her cheeks blushing a rosy pink. This was so embarrassing on so many levels, she hoped that he wasn't thinking of anything ill will towards her. Dipping her spoon in the soup, letting the broth and vegetables collect, she brought it to her lips and gulped it down. The taste and creaminess of the dish was so delicious, that it warmed her from the inside. Wanting to clear the awkwardness of the table, she began to think of ideas that they could talk about while eating.

Mustering up whatever courage she could, Suni took in a deep breath before looking directly at Ryuu. "Actually... Ryuu do you think we could visit the aquamarine sometime... together?" She didn't know if he would want to see the show with her. Would it be considered a date? The more she thought about it, the deeper the blush on her face went. Finally it came to a tipping point as she hid her face behind the menu once more. "A-Ah never mind, you don't need to go! I can just ask Chris to come with me." If one were to look over the menu, one would see that her entire face was beat red. So much for courage.... She thought, as she wanted to bury herself in the miso soup.

Taking a sip of the water that had been at the table he listened to her response, and when it came to replies Suni was as strange as ever before. Her reiteration of what he said proved that she was acting a little funny, namely in the fact that she hadn't actually begun eating in his absence. He imagined that she would just so that she could get through some of it before their lunch break concluded, though the fact she broke off the conversation to eat a little was reassuring- especially when you considered the fact that they only had a limited time. A smile came to his face when he thought about his first meeting with her, a little sweets shop- more like a candy shop than a bakery, that had prompted his curiosity.

"I mean i'm not complaining, it's nice to eat with you rather than eating afterwards and making you wait." He responded and used a pair of chopsticks to lift a dumpling to his mouth, they weren't too large so the steamed mass easily enough entered his mouth. The flavor was nice, a mixture of pork and vegetables caused a savory response from him and honestly he was more than satisfied with the results he'd gotten. When she locked eyes with him and made a request he was a bit surprised but nodded as he finished up the first dumpling, "I wouldn't mind if you wanted to, I haven't been to one in... awhile" last time he'd gone to one it had been to hunt down a siren who had been hiding in the shark tank. He still had a nice shark-tooth necklace from the one that decided to try and take a bite out of him, seeing a beast approach that fast was always a scary situation but not nearly as bad as sharkmen or krakens could be. Immediately after he spoke this Suni refuted the claim she'd made before hiding behind the menu.

Regardless of such a thing he didn't appear dejected or upset by such a thing, instead he nodded with a little smile. "Well i'm sure you and Chris would enjoy yourselves- Oh! When you two go could I have you pick me up an octopus necklace. I'll pay you back for it if you can get it, I've always wanted one but they're always out of stock when I used to come in." He made a request of his own now, refuting a girls decisions would just be a horrible idea. If she was deciding on going somewhere with someone then it would make such a thing even worse, and given that she was hiding behind her menu now he figured accepting that and changing the topic might be for the best. "If you can't then that's no trouble either, i'll just look for it the next time i'm in there." The aquarium owed him one anyways, especially since he was the one to 'tame' their biggest shark for them.

"I'm glad that you like eating with me. I don't mind waiting, it was a nice experience to look at the first in the meantime." Suni softly smiled, the view blocked from the behind the menu. When learning about how he hadn't been to an aquamarine in awhile, the mini Suni inside of her mind began to beam with excitement. She wanted to take him all over the aquamarine, she wanted to get the chance to get to know him outside of work. Even if they didn't get the chance do this every time they were alone, this was something that she was happy to become reality. However hearing his response to how she had declined invitation, that made her feel a little sour deep inside her heart.

"Oh... I see... well I guess me and Chris with both enjoy ourselves then..." A subtle hint of disappointment was glaring in her tone of voice, she tried to hide it the best she could. In truth she was actually very disappointed with the both of them, but mainly herself for being bothered by it. It wasn't the fact that he turned her down, it was the fact that it seemed like he didn't really want to spend time with her. Suni was supposed to be the cheerful one and yet she was acting like she was depressed, even her appetite didn't hold well. Pushing her barely eaten food away, she turned to look at the fish tank again to distract her mind from bothersome thoughts.

"I'm not really hungry anymore, you can continue eating though." She was still listening into the conversation as she heard him mention wanting an octopus necklace when they went to the aquamarine. Suni sat there for a brief silence before composing herself to her chipper personality that she was known for. Often this was described her to as her entering her own little world or safe haven as others called it. "I don't mind getting you a necklace.. though I did hope that it was the two of us that went." Suni didn't even realize that she spoke those words, she just felt down in that moment.
