As soon as the blast happened, Titania lost concentration of her spell. Even if she still had it what she saw after would have made her lose it anyway, the body of Luna. With that sight she knew that things were going to get worse. Nightmare Moon, although smaller and seemingly drained, was still around. Trixie then flashed into the battlefield and wanted to know what happened. “Oh, nothing much. Short story, Nightmare Moon is still here but weakened now...oh and Luna is dead sooooo...yea, let’s get this sorted before someone else gets killed.” She said as she prepped Ash, her other Pistol. Sun Sword in one hoof and Ash in another, she was ready to fight and avenge the Princess of the Night.

Rarity gave all her strength to her Element, every drop of life and willpower she could spare. She would not dare risk letting Luna's sacrifice being in vain. Luna's last words echoing in her ear as the deafening blast muted all other sounds to the world. Her mind was empty, her body had no strength left in it as she felt the howling gales of winds rip around her body. When it passed, she looked down and saw Luna's body. Her legs giving out as she fell over it, clinging to it and letting the dead goddesses blood spread out over her white coat. Her eyes slowly closed, her exertion getting the better of her as she slipped unconscious.

Avedon's wings unfurled after the blast passed. Staring at the barrier around him. Marveling at such strange intervention. Harmony...never someone he thought would notice him. He held Luna's sword out, the top poking through the barrier right at Nightmare Moon. He drew his own blade in his off-hand as he felt into the combat-pose Luna had so often held when they sparred.
"It's time for you to face the truth of your own mortality Nightmare. This world will not suffer you to live for another day." "

As the dust from the explosion settled down, Nightmare was left staring at the ponies left standing. Her opponents. Her blood was boiling, but there was something else in the back of her mind as well... fear. She had never felt something quite like this before. The Elements were intimidating, but they never made her feel mortal. She always knew that she'd come back from banishment eventually. This, however... she felt vulnerable.

And she did not like it.

Sneering at the ground in front of her, magic began to spark up around Nightmare Aurora's form. The Weave high above was nearly falling apart, threads coming undone only to come together again in the wrong spot. It wasn't looking overly good for the magic of the planet right now, but at least no cities were falling out of the sky.

Looking at Avedon, Nightmare Aurora narrowed her eyes. She noted Avedon's pose, she had seen it before. "You are not her, Avedon. Your Goddess lays dead by my hooves, but fear not... you shall soon join her."

This is it. The final fight yet laid before them. The sacrifice of Luna and then the subsequent death of Selena following their goddess, and then everybody else being critically injured... this is the final fight. If they lose, there isn't really anybody else to stand up to Nightmare anymore, not unless Celestia returns by some miracle soon and deals with them before they can regain their strength. As much as she hated their decision to force her into alicornhood, she really wished her old mentor was here right now. They all could use their help.

Whatever. You deal with what you're given, and right now, they don't have a choice but to fight. Fight for the ones they have lost (albeit temporarily), fight for the one who would be trapped forever. If Nightmare is allowed to keep Aurora... the world is pretty much doomed. That sort of power will let them dominate everybody. She should know. She has actually seen it. As long as Twilight lived, she would find a way to free Aurora... somehow. Some way. Right now, they need to weaken her just a little more to exorcise Nightmare.

There is something she wanted to know. It's been like an itch at the back of her mind since she realized Aurora had been possessed. While her horn fired up, readying a Cantrip to cast, her thoughts went out to Nightmare, proving at their mind. She was searching for something... something deeper than would be on the surface. Nightmare's mind would blanket Aurora's own, right? She'll have to somehow get through that.

Twilight's AttackAttack Action--Incinerate
To-hit: 26 (15 + 11)
Damage: 28 (7, 3, 3, 10, +5) Fire

Bonus Action--Detect Thoughts
Duration: Concentration/10 Rounds
For the duration, you can read the thoughts of certain creatures. When you cast the spell and as your action on each turn until the spell ends, you can focus your mind on any one creature that you can see within 30 feet of you. If the creature you choose has an Intelligence of 3 or lower or doesn't speak any language, the creature is unaffected.

You initially learn the surface thoughts of the creature--what is most on its mind in that moment. As an action, you can either shift your attention to another creature's thoughts or attempt to probe deeper into the same creature's mind. If you probe deeper, the target must make a Charisma saving throw. If it fails, you gain insight into its reasoning (if any), its emotional state, and something that looms large in its mind (such as something it worries over, loves, or hates). If it succeeds, the spell ends. Either way, the target knows that you are probing into its mind, and unless you shift your attention to another creature's thoughts, the creature can use its action on its turn to make an Intelligence check contested by your Intelligence check; if it succeeds, the spell ends.

Questions verbally directed at the target creature naturally shape the course of its thoughts, so this spell is particularly effective as part of an interrogation.

You can also use this spell to detect the presence of thinking creatures you can't see. When you cast the spell or as your action during the duration, you can search for thoughts within 30 feet of you. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 2 feet of rock, 2 inches of any metal other than lead, or a thin sheet of lead blocks you. You can't detect a creature with an Intelligence of 3 or lower or one that doesn't speak any language.

Once you detect the presence of a creature in this way, you can read its thoughts for the rest of the duration as described above, even if you can't see it, but it must still be within range.

It was of no surprise to Nightmare that Twilight was the first one to attack. What was surprising was the speed at which the young demigoddess did so. Nightmare had only just started moving when a burst of flame washed over the weakened primordial, singing her fur. However just as soon as the flames had died away, so to had her wounds healed. With a dark, amused chuckle Nightmare said, "Is that the best you can mu-..."

She winced as Twilight began to probe her mind. It should have been rather easy to shake the demigoddess off, and indeed Twilight could feel the primordial simply tearing her magical probes away. But then something unexpected happened; a third party joined into the mental conflict, reaching out to grip Twilight and pull her in close. "Hello, Twilight..." came Aurora's voice through the conflict, echoing through Twilight's mind. "I cannot hold her off for long."

Nightmare was doing her best to fight against this, and soon enough would succeed in separating the two of them again. "Get out of my head!" Nightmare commanded, the sky above them splitting open and a lightning bolt raining down on Twilight from above in response to the angry primordial.

Twilight: Twilight must make a DC 26 Dexterity saving throw, suffering 42 damage on a failed save or 21 on a success. She will also need to make a Constitution saving throw equal to 21 (if failed) or 10 (if success) to maintain concentration on Detect Thoughts.

Looking over at Starlight, Nightmare's eyes glossed over with an inky darkness. As their gazes met, Starlight would be able to feel her free will slipping away. Pointing over at Twilight Sparkle, Nightmare issued only a single command to Starlight. "Kill her!"

Starlight:
Starlight has been targeted by the Epic Spell 'Hideous Mandate'. She must succeed on a DC 26 Intelligence saving throw, or try to kill Twilight Sparkle to the best of her ability. At the end of each turn, she may attempt another saving throw.

Trixie saw this happening, and sensed the magic emanating from Nightmare at the command. This was a terrible spell, one that she had never heard of before. She knew of spells that could command the minds of lesser creatures, but one that could turn Starlight on her friends with just a word? That was terrifying. Of course Trixie reached out to attempt to counterspell the magic, only for Nightmare to reverse her own magic back on her. There was a brief moment of silence as her spell failed, before a terrible explosion rocked the air right around Trixie's horn and sent her stumbling back.

Not one to give up, Trixie sprang back up to her hooves and began to fall into a spell casting trance. She pulled upon some of her most potent magics, and even put some of herself into it. A thin ray of intense heat shot out from the tip of her horn, striking Nightmare who let out a cry of pain as the disintegration beam melted a good portion of her shoulder.

Starlight felt the thoughts invade her head. The commands. The voices that were telling her to kill Twilight! She refused. She shut them out with every fiber of her being, every ounce of mental fortitude she could muster, and gritted her teeth as her face contorted with hate.

"Twilight is my teacher, and best friend, and I have made her suffer enough! How dare you! HOW DARE YOU! I am through letting myself be used as your puppet! And you think to tamper with my mind? My free will? The mare who brainwashed an entire town into giving up their cutie marks is still here, and you have made a grave mistake trying to brainwash her in turn! Let me show you how it's done!"

Nightmare would now, in turn, feel her own attempts to magically alter Starlight's mind dissipate, and in their place, the stream changed direction. Now it was Starlight who was attempting to tamper with Nightmare's mind! Starlight added a small fire spell into the mix, as an insult more than anything else.

As Starlight's spell went off, she could feel herself briefly connect with Nightmare's mind. There was a cacophony of whispers as their minds touched, before the spell suddenly ended. Nightmare was looking at Starlight with evident amusement, and a slight smile on her face. "That was a most impressive display of mental fortitude, little puppet. But I am no pony, to be struck with idiocy by your mortal magics."

Trixie was still in the middle of her next spell, but did put her spell on hold to look over at Starlight. "... What do you mean you were her puppet?"

Nightmare's horn began to glow with an azure flame, which shot up towards the heavens. High up above them the visible Weave began to tremble and tear. As the very essence of the Weave was pulled apart, Nightmare drank in the power. Many of her wounds sealed closed from the sudden inrush of strength, even as the Weave began to breakdown above them.

As some of the spellcasters started their attack and Nightmare Moon started her counter Titania saw an opportunity. “Oh honey, one thing you should never do is take your eyes off the fighters.” She said as she rushed towards Nightmare Moon.

Titania started her attack as she got into melee range with a single shot from her gun aiming to do a dazing shot but she missed it. The next attack was an upwards slash from her Sun Sword and that missed too. Her next two attacks, however, hit their mark. With her second slash she managed to make a cut on Nightmare Moon’s cheek and the next attack hit Nightmare Moon on the side and dug deep.

As the bullet from the pistol bounced harmlessly off Nightmare's skin, she turned to regard the mare making these bold attacks. The following slash grazed across her neck, doing no real damage at all. The next attack opened up a cut on her cheek, and then the final attack plunged deeply into her side. With a snarl Nightmare pulled away, tearing the sword out as her wounds began to seal themselves closed.

Looking up at the Weave above them, Nightmare was considering pulling more energy from it to heal herself. However, she decided against it; she needed to get more offensive here if she wanted to survive. Turning her eyes on Titania, Nightmare snarled at her. "You will suffer for that!" She promised to Titania, before falling into her spellcasting trance.

Three clones of Nightmare Aurora popped up around her. They were indistinguishable from the real one, each mimicking each others movements perfectly. This would certainly make striking Nightmare more difficult.

Avedon was the last into combat, the warrior watching from the darkened edges of the fight so different than the melee where the furious light of town-shattering spells flew between the combatants as their opening gambits. His eyes were fixed on Nightmare though, watching her, gauging his foe and looking for an opening while the moon-blessed light of Luna's sword bathed his form in an alabaster that stood stark and bleak against the shadows of the night that seemed to pour down over him and meld with his body. His wings burned with pinions of starlight and held the night-sky as Luna's champion took flight and darted into the battle, wrapped in his lunar-form. He burned with the mantle of divinity, a veil of eternity set upon this undead corpse as his vampiric nature desiccated under it and revealed it's monstrous form with his fangs elongating and his equine face contorting to that of something more fit for a beast. It was a state both beautiful and repulsive in equal breaths, but truly it held all the splendor and terror of the night at once.

It was this creature that Nightmare Moon saw soaring out at her, wielding the weapon and final vengeance of the fallen goddess she had thought herself finally rid of. This creature she knew had been born and molded of her own malice and held all the same cruelty and viciousness she herself was capable of, and she saw in it's golden eyes that mortal abandonment of life and death. That reckless, pathetic, and yet so very dangerous spark of defiance against the impossible these mortals had used to steal the world itself away from the Primordials that once held it.

Nightmare Moon: Fear Aura - DC21 Charisma

Avedon launched himself at the multiple projections of Nightmare Moon, cleaving through the dark miasmas and setting them scattering like stars wherever he could hit one.
"Hide all you want Nightmare. Whether I strike at images of you or the real thing, this blade won't rest until every last echo of you is sent to a void so hollow and alone, even you will learn to fear the dark for once."

He had forsaken his shield to honor Luna's own fighting style and in his other hand he held up his own sword, it's bright light casting out on his allies and bolstering them, adding it's golden hue to the black and white that burned around him. They had done it, they had locked blades and spells with Nightmare Moon and still they stood, and as long as he fought he would see to it each one of them continued to. No more would fall. He called out to them, not in his own words, but in his own voice. He called to them in the same song and cry that Luna herself would so often use.
"Fear not this night! You will not go astray! Though shadows fall, still the stars find their way!"

Although that sight may have shaken lesser creatures, Nightmare did not look worried by his approach. Steeling herself as Avedon approached, Nightmare and her duplicates began to weave around his strikes. As Avedon's first strike connected with an image, it exploded in a fantastic burst of harmless Azureflame. The second strike was met with the same flash of Azureflame. Nightmare herself was undamaged, and one of her mirror images was still moving around her. Though it was impossible to tell which one was which!

Cackling laughter emanated from Nightmare and the duplicate, thoroughly amused by Avedon's impressive yet ultimately pointless flurry of blows. "Is that truly the best you can do, Avedon? Such anger, such power, and yet you are still powerless to stop me. Come, let me show you what true powerlessness feels like..."

An inky cloud began to swell at the end of Nightmare's horn, before suddenly coalescing into a beam of crackling dark energy. The beam struck Avedon in the chest. As the energy coursed throughout his body, Avedon could feel his strength being sapped away... much like what a vampire bite feels like.

AVEDON: Hit with Ray of Enfeeblement with a 24 (disadvantage), Avedon deals half damage on strength attacks and can make a DC 26 Constitution saving throw at the end of each turn to end this effect.

Twilight didn't have much of a plan when she attempted to invade Nightmare's mind. Honestly, she didn't even think that it would work at all. It was just a mare's desperate hope to possibly connect with her loved one again. Try to find where Nightmare ends and Aurora begins again. She misses them. She misses them so much that it hurts. Not being able to feel them, touch them, hear their voice... all taken away by Starlight and Nightmare. If only things had turned out differently and Starlight wasn't a crummy friend...

Yet, somehow, luck seemed to be on her side. Detect Thoughts worked! She had invaded their mind, to which Nightmare was none too happy about it. A voice spoke to her, one that she hadn't heard in some months. A wobbling grin came onto her face, Twilight had to blink back tears. Aurora is there, even while stuck, helping her. A flood of emotions ran through her.

Too bad the moment couldn't last. Twilight snapped back to reality when Nightmare screamed, summoning a bolt of lightning to strike her. She screamed when it hit, electricity coursing through her body, but stood her ground still. The spell she had cast didn't disappear, either; the mare managed to keep her concentration on Detect Thoughts throughout it. She was way too determined to get a chance to talk to Aurora again, if only for a brief moment.

She would have to make it brief as well. "... I just needed to know you were still in there." Twilight said quietly back to Aurora, steeling herself. Twilight looked more determined now than ever. "I'll see you soon, my love. Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." They wouldn't understand that but they didn't need to. It's only important to herself and Pinkie Pie.

Her horn lit up once more, glowing with power. First out a hand made of arcane energy, floating next to her. Afterward, it was immediately sent forward to beat the shit out of Nightmare, smacking that bitch like the hoe they are. The only purpose of using it was to get rid of the Mirror Image so that she knew who to target next. Her horn came to life with fire next, multiple rays shooting out to barbecue Nightmare.

Twilight's AttackAttack Action - Arcane Hand
Arcane Hand (Attack Action): You summon a pony size hand of shimmering purple arcane energy. The hand has 20 AC and hit points equal to half your own, as well as a +8 strength and +0 dexterity. Summoning this hand is a full action, but when summoned and on each of your turns afterwards you can use a Bonus Action to cause the hand to do one of the following effects;
 • - Clenched Fist. The hand can strike one creature. Make a spell attack roll against the target. On a hit they take 2d8 bludgeoning damage. This damage increases to 3d8 at level 7, and 4d8 at level 9.
 • - Grasping Hand. The hand attempts to grapple a Huge or smaller creature. The DM will tell you a creature's size. You use the hand's Strength score to resolve the grapple. If the target is Medium (pony sized) or smaller, you have advantage on the check. While the hand is grappling the target, you can use a bonus action to have the hand crush it. When you do so, the target takes bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 + your spellcasting ability modifier. A grappled target can only hit either the hand or an enemy right beside themselves and cannot move. At level 9 this damage becomes 2d6.
 • - Interposing Hand. The hand interposes itself between you and a creature you choose until you give the hand a different command. The hand moves to stay between you and the target, providing you with +5 AC against the target and cover from ranged attacks from the target, but granting your enemy the same against you. The target can't move through the hand's space if its Strength score is less than or equal to the hand's Strength score.

"Still here. Just... waiting. It's nice to hear your voice again..." Surprisingly, the connection with Nightmare's mind did not falter. Nightmare was making no effort to actually sever their connection. As far as she was concerned, it didn't effect the outcome of the fight at all... if anything it helped, because Twilight was busy concentrating on an offensively useless spell.

As Twilight's arcane fist came towards her, the spell struck true. Nightmare went stumbling back a bit, skidding on her hooves and shaking her head from the impact. She spit out a bit of blood, and then looked at Twilight with visible annoyance. As Nightmare stood up to her full height, the Weave above them began to twist and turn. Twilight could feel the magic of her arcane hand beginning to dissipate... before Nightmare's connection suddenly faltered and the arcane hand returned in full strength. Nightmare looked quite annoyed at her failure to manipulate the magic, and stomped her hooves on the ground in anger. Cracks spread throughout the ground in all directions from her power.

BONUS ACTION: Dispel Magic attempt failed.

Right now, all of Nightmare's anger was directed towards Twilight. This mare was the one who continually stood in her path. All Nightmare wanted was Aurora's powers, but Twilight had to go and get emotionally involved. She had to get in the way again. Like last time.

Any thoughts of using magic faded. If she couldn't dispel Twilight's magic, she would just beat her to death instead. Ignoring the warriors around her, Nightmare charged at Twilight.

ALL MELEE: Get an attack of opportunity.

Nightmare was no stranger to melee combat, and she still remembered many of the skills that she had gained from her time possessing Luna. Coming at Twilight, Nightmare swung low and struck her on the shoulder. That swing was mostly to open up her next powerful blow, which cracked Twilight on the temple with the sharp edge of her hoof. Her next swing connected with Twilight's jaw in an uppercut even as the mare was still recovering from having her temple basically shattered.

TWILIGHT: First attack hit with a 26 for 29 damage. Second attack was a critical strike for 55 damage. Third attack hit with a 21 for 33 damage. Make a DC 14 Con save, a DC 27 Con save and a DC16 Con save to maintain concentration on Detect Thoughts.

Seeing Twilight get so badly beaten by Nightmare, Trixie knew she had to help. Closing her eyes, Trixie reached deep inside of herself to that piece of sunlight held in her soul. When her eyes opened again they shone with the blinding light of the sun. Trixie turned her gaze towards Twilight, bidding the clouds to open. A beam of sunlight shone down upon Twilight, healing much of the damage done. It only lasted a brief second, after which time Trixie's eyes lost their glow and she shook her head wearily. "I can't do that much longer..."

TWILIGHT: Healed for 70 hit points via Heal. Also cured of blindness, deafness and diseases.

Not knowing what else to really do, Trixie tapped into some of her more forbidden magic and sent a spike of psionic energy at Nightmare. Unfortunately it had no effect, and Nightmare shook off the assault with barely even a flinch.

"... What do you mean you were her puppet?"

Starlight briefly wavered, and her red mist started to shrink a little, but he gritted her teeth and stoked the flames of her rage so that they dare not extinguish.

"Not now!" She shouted back. "Later, I promise!"

In the time that this brief exchange had taken place, a back-and-forth battle had been raging between Nightmare and the rest of their friends. While Trixie tended to Twilight, and attacked Nightmare herself, Starlight could tell that her attack didn't have enough magic behind it, possibly because it had been cast so soon after Trixie had cast a rather powerful healing spell. Starlight didn't think Trixie had breathed in between the two spells. Starlight cast her own spell, to try to ensure that Avedon removed the last doppleganger, before casting another small spell to enhance Trixie's magic a little.

Then Starlight took a deep breath, gathered up her energy, and fired a giant bright blue glowing stream of magic from her horn, directly at Nightmare. She tried to concentrate it so that it didn't get too wide and accidentally hit anypony else, whilst trying to keep it wide enough that Nightmare couldn't dodge it. The power pulsing from this attack was impressive. Nightmare would note that it was destructive enough to possibly even rival the Sorcery of Starswirl the Bearded.

Free Action: Twisted Fate - Avedon's First Mirror Image Roll is now a 5
(When you cast this spell, roll 1d20. When an ally or an enemy that you can see makes an attack roll, ability check or saving throw, you may substitute the number rolled with their dice roll. Using this in the same turn is a free action, but replacing a dice roll any other time costs a reaction.)

Nightmare's Moon magic wormed it's way into the paladin, sputtering out his strength, he felt Starlight reach out and twist his blade, trusting her as he sent a skittering wave of lunar-light with his blade to scatter Nightmare Moon's doppelganger.

As Titania's sword connected with Nightmare, there was a brief flash of Azurefire as the last of the duplicates was destroyed. The confusing mirage of multiple Nightmare Aurora's was now gone, letting the party focus their attacks on only the true one. Nightmare didn't even spare Titania a glance, as she was focused on Twilight at the time.

Avedon Avedon
As Titania shattered the last of the mirror images, Avedon was able to strike true. However, even with his well placed strike it barely even cut into the demigoddesses skin. In fact it was such a pathetic little attack that Nightmare chuckled at it. She paid no mind to his words, but her laughter was all the reply Avedon likely needed; she was not convinced of his threat.

Cyan Hide Cyan Hide
The power being poured into that spell was enough to even give Nightmare pause. As she finished beating Twilight close to death, her horn began to tingle as it sensed the casting of a spell. Turning to look at Starlight, Nightmare's eyes went wide as the spell was released... and then she smiled. Starlight made a grave error in shifting the type of magic her spell was using. Perhaps she would realize her mistake at the last moment, or perhaps not.

Nightmare didn't move out of the way. In fact she made herself an even easier target for the beam, taking it fully to the chest with no visible damage whatsoever. Arcane magic is not effective against Nightmare Aurora... depowered or not, she is still the ruler of all things Arcane.

"Poor Starlight... so helpless... so many bad decisions..." Nightmare mocked while drawing on the Weave once again to heal her wounds. High above them, the faint shimmering of Azureflame could be seen creeping in from another plane of existence, beginning to merge with their own. Nightmare either did not notice, or more likely... didn't care.

As Nightmare Moon Mirror Images disappeared, Titania put her Gun away and rushed after Nightmare Moon. As she approached Nightmare Moon, she began her attack with a War Stomp. Then, allowing energy to rush through her, she began attacking with her sword. Due to the War Stomp, Titania was a bit off balance and missed her first two attacks, hit Nightmare Moon in the rear with her 3rd attack and missed the forth. “Why do I keep missing my attacks?” Thought Titania.

The rolling thunder of Titania's war stomp appeared to pass over Nightmare with no real effect. A creature as powerful as her would be rather hard to phase with such tactics. Most of Titania's attacks either missed completely, or didn't have the strength behind them to cut through Nightmare's iron-like hide. The one that did left a deep cut on Nightmare's flank, which made her snarl.

Looking around, Nightmare was beginning to get a little worried. With the initial shock of combat having calmed down, things were beginning to slow down. Plans were being drawn. She had to make sure to stay on top of this conflict if she was to have any hope of surviving. And she knew exactly how to do that...

Nightmare's horn lit up, and a chilling cold emanated from the tip. The ponies would feel their minds being twisted, subtly altered to view each other not as allies but as hindrances.

"I have you all right where I want you!" Nightmare exclaimed as her spell took hold. Avedon would feel the strength return to his limbs as Nightmare let that spell go in favour of this newer one.

ALL CHARACTERS: All characters must make a DC 21 Charisma saving throw or spend their rounds bickering and arguing. Attacks are made with disadvantage while under this spells influence. At the end of each round characters may make another saving throw, ending the effect on a success.

Trixie tried to fight off the magic. She really did. But Nightmare's presence was insidious, and it worked its way into her mind. It brought up things in the past that she thought had been buried. As a final ditch effort she looked inward again, calling upon that spark of divinity that rested inside of her. The light of the sun once again filled her eyes, and she shook away the tendrils of Nightmare's corrupting influence. "You cannot turn us against each other, Nightmare!"

Despite her brave words, she didn't know if anypony else had resisted the influence and looked around worriedly.

Avedon was't a fool, he knew while Nightmare Moon kept him enfeebled he only had a few options to remain on the offense and had been biding his time for an opening, even when he was about to create one she made an even larger one for him. She let go of her stranglehold on his strength, letting his fire ebb in even as Nightmare Moon's dark miasma washed over him, filling with a raw disdain towards his fellow ponies....

...Wait he always felt that way. He double-checked himself.

Constant Snark? Hiding bitterness in sarcasm? Wanting to tell Starlight her attack was as idiotic as her outdated hair-styles? All him, all normal.

He had been raised in Nightmare's shadow, so her magic had only shifted his usual attitude by degrees. What was crippling darkness for normal ponies awash in friendship was merely a missed cup of tea for him. Well, he wasn't one to waste this opportunity, swiftly recovering faster than most as he he sheathed his scimitar and drew his shield, pointing his remaining sword at Nightmare and activating one of the runes emblazoned on it, casting it in a thirsting sanguine light.

A deathly hand grabbed Nightmare Moon and turned her around, pulling her onto his blade as his shield hand locked around her. Nightmare Moon likes to talk and mock, so did he. It was the best way to rattle someone, especially someone so arrogant and used to being unchallenged.
"Right where you wanted me? Why Nightmare, I never knew you felt that way."

He doubted he could hold her for long, but he could pin her attention and allow the wizards of the group to fight her on magic terms where they at least stood a chance rather than be battered by her divine-strength again.

Charisma save = FAIL

Starlight watched Nightmare tank her blast with no effect. Wait....what just happened? Why did that do nothing? Starlight had seen Nightmare take damage from several fire spells...Wait. Fire spells! Nightmare still had Aurora's body, and though she was no longer resisting all types of magic, perhaps she was still able to resist Arcane and only Arcane. And Twilight was strictly using fire spells. She must have figured it out already. Of course, she knew Aurora better than any of them.

Just then, Starlight felt Nightmare's magic invade and corrupt her mind. Her Red Mist suddenly flared up anew. This time not with Nightmare, or with herself. Those weren't new. No, she was furious at Twilight, who she turned to. Her eyes and face didn't show any anger. Just pain.

"She got me. I can feel her magic in my mind. But even so, you knew. You knew she couldn't be hurt by Arcane and you didn't tell me. Why not? This is important, Twilight! This is too important to let your hatred towards me ruin our chances! And I know I deserve it! But I needed you then, and I need you now! I told you I wasn't ready to graduate from your teaching, but you had faith in me! And despite what happened, you know deep down that I did the best I could and made impossible choices. I'm not evil. I'm not a killer. And I'm not a turncoat. I'm just an emotionally weak mare who got blackmailed and her wife held hostage! You know what ponies do for love! You abandoned your trust in me like our years of Friendship meant nothing, over love! You gave me a chance for a reason! Was it a mistake, after all this time?!"

Nightmare let out a startled gasp as she was pulled cleanly onto the blade, the tip piercing cleanly through her and out the back. Blood began to seep from her mouth at the terrible injury, but even still her body was healing the damage. It was difficult to bite into her flesh, and the taste was quite disgusting as the corrupted blood of Aurora seeped into Avedon's mouth. It was a light purple colour with splotches of black in it, and burned as he ingested it!

Even with Nightmare's corruption, it was still the blood of a holy being. It reacted violently with Avedon's undead physiology.

Avedon takes 10 damage for ingesting divine blood.

Still, it was quite obvious that the attack hurt Nightmare more than the blood hurt Avedon. "You disgusting creature! Get off of me! .... Weird!"

Reaching up towards the Weave, Nightmare once again tore it asunder in order to heal herself.

Twilight pretty much only had to exist to piss off Nightmare, which exactly seemed the case. Besides the fact that, y'know, Aurora was helping her out a lot from the other side. That does help. The dispel didn't work and she still had her Arcane Hand to toy around with. It'll probably come in handy in a bit here when she needs to pummel Nightmare. Unfortunately, however, that also means that she is about to get pummeled first. While she bravely stood against it... ouch!

First came the strike to her shoulder, which sent Twilight staggering sideways. She didn't have her alicorn strength anymore, meaning that she couldn't just handle the blow like she normally one. Twilight is a regular-ass pony with a horn and wings currently. Next came another blow to her temple, momentarily discombobulating her. Her vision blurred wildly from it, blinking and shaking, pain lancing through her skull. Just to seal the deal, Nightmare ended it with an uppercut, sending her nearly sprawling backwards.

Moments later, Trixie healed her injuries, making the rampage that Nightmare went on somewhat for naught. It didn't heal all of it but the worst of the damage was gone now. It gave Twilight the clarity she needed to shake off the pain and get back into the fight. Which, of course, is when Starlight got hit with a damn spell that loosened their tongue a little bit. Of course she did. The spell washed over Twilight like it had done nothing at all, resisting it. Not today, Satan. Not today.

Her eyes turned briefly over to Starlight and their yammering, looking slightly agape at them. "What the hell are you even saying!? I thought you knew! You were a Chosen! Of all the magical types you thought could harm her, why would Arcane be one of them, her primary form of magic!? It's like trying to hit Celestia with Light or Luna with Shadow! I thought you were smarter than that!" She barked back hotly, not really in much of a mood to be admonished by them. This entire situation wouldn't have even happened if Starlight had been a little bit smarter, or even had some of the foresight to realize this can only end terribly. "Yes, I had faith! You're not a stupid mare, Starlight, but you are horribly naive at times! Trixie could have been brought back by other means, we both personally know Celestia! You can cast Wish! I can cast Wish! There were other ways and you took NONE OF THEM EXCEPT THE EASIEST ONE IN FRONT OF YOU! You took my love to save your own!"

Turning her aggression away from Starlight and onto Nightmare, her horn lit up with flames once more. She hadn't dropped her concentration--somehow--and was still managing to maintain her connection to Aurora, who could feel that Twilight is absolutely furious. A massive boulder of fire, firing it at Nightmare with wild abandon. Starlight really pushed the wrong buttons now. More than that, the Arcane Hand came around to strike Nightmare once again.

Although Avedon was trying his best to restrain the depowered Goddess, it was for naught. With a surprising amount of grace, Nightmare slipped from his hooves.

AVEDON: Escaped the grapple with a 28.

Shaking free of the grapple, Nightmare turned to face the magic being hurled towards her. As the pyroblast roared its way at her, Nightmare reached out with a small bead of Azureflame and struck the pyroblast with it. The Azureflame swelled around the pyroblast and slowly diminished the blazing ball until it simply vanished. Nightmare dodged out of the way of the arcane hands strike, the clumsy object not really being able to catch the supernaturally swift alicorn.

Trixie attempted to counterspell at the same time that Twilight did, Nightmare's magic meeting both of theirs. It was a dance of skill rather than brute force, but in the end Nightmare ever so slightly beat the two of them.

"A good attempt, mortals." was all Nightmare had to say to their efforts. Her horn began to glow again, this time glowing grey as wisps of air surrounded it. Suddenly Nightmare clapped her hooves together, and a clap of thunder appeared centred on her. It was louder than any natural thunder, shaking the mortals to their core as the wave of energy washed over them.

ALL PLAYERS: All players must make a DC 24 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, take 85 storm damage and be blinded and deafened. 1 point of magical healing cures the blindness and deafness. On a successful save take 42 damage and avoid the blinded and deafened conditions.

Turning to face Avedon, Nightmare held out her hoof. A glowing ball of flame began to coalesce there, growing in size... and then suddenly imploding. Nightmare was knocked back for a moment but quickly rose up, shaking her head from the explosion. "What sorcery is this?!"

DC 24 Constitution Save = 31 (16 + 15)

Starlight luckily didn't have time for Twilight's words to sink in before Nightmare attack the group with a thunder attack which broke through Starlight's hastily thrown-up barrier and struck her. Thankfully she was able to weather it out and remain standing, though it had done some damage. She quickly used to magic to patch herself up, before glaring at Nightmare. She had screwed up. If she had more time or was thinking clearer, she may have figured out not to do that. She wasn't mentally disciplined enough. Ever since Nightmare's resurgence at the Gala, Starlight had been thrown off balance. But one thing Starlight could do was learn from her mistakes. And she had made many mistakes in her life. So she was very learned.

Starlight still pretended to be dazed and staggering, and she let the damaging truth of Twilight's words show on her face, all the while gathering herself, breathing and reading her magic. Then, without any telegraphed warning, another giant blast erupted from Starlight's horn, similar in size and power from the last attempt.

But this time, it was a pillar of fire.
