Welcome.
Flowers bloom; bright, fragrant and beautiful, yet again, welcoming in spring with clear skies and picturesque days. It is time, yet again, for the wealthy families of London to flock to balls of the ton, mingling with old friends, rekindling lost friendships, and working to secure their places in society yet again.
Be it your first time in the social season or your fifth, you will be welcomed with open arms and smiling faces, eager individuals ready to observe, examine and make judgment. Whether you belong or not, whatever your reasons are for attending, they are hidden behind soft orchestral music, glittering chandeliers, and the soft murmur of connections being made, secrets being traded, and lives being changed.
Something about this season seems different. The town is alive with an unspoken fervor. Precarious? Dangerous? Alluring? Certainly, something is amiss in London but not a soul can fathom what it is. Alas! All must push forward with sparkly smiles and ambitions to impress those they desire. Keep your secrets close to your chests, your enemies at your sides, and trust you must stay on your toes.

Welcome to ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ๐ค & ๐ก๐จ๐ง๐๐ฒ, a regency era rp that follows the irregular London social season in the year 1811. Families from across England have been invited to London by a mystery host, some out of place, some comfortably positioned in society, and others mysterious outsiders yet to be accepted by the closed, well established community. No one knows what the social season will hold but it is clear among the ton that something is amiss. Is there something truly awry among the socialites or have rumors caused a fuss of nothing? Investigate or ignore, the choice is up to you!
This rp will focus on a mix of genres from drama to romantic comedy! The following themes will also be present in the span of the story: romance, social climbing, betrayal, scandal, schemes, violence, possibly murder? Sound interesting? Feel free to pop on over to the rules and apply!

These roles are not set in stone. Use the following as more of a loose suggestion when creating your character. Feel free to ignore them if you wish or create your own! These roles should allow you to create a character with a secret and a hidden desire in this social season! There are plenty more possibilities beyond these roles and feel free to explore them!

the heir may be under the restraints of an allowance, dependent on their parent or relative to fund their lifestyle until said individual passes away. the heir will carry on their family name, likely as the man or woman of the house once their parent or relative passes away. they carry the burden of reputation, financial dealings, and are likely constantly being observed under a looking glass. the heir is the eldest of their siblings or the next in line to receive the inheritance. nepotism allows these individuals to stay safely secured in their social standing for a while-- although no one is truly safe from gossip and rumors.

with lofty aspirations and a favoring for good company, anything can be done if you have the right connections....
the socialite does not simply socialize to socialize. they have a goal in mind. whatever they may seek, they use their charm and aspirations to gain whatever they are seeking. the socialite never chats just to make friends. they are always working towards their goal-- be it wealth, social legitimacy, rank, or simple popularity. until they are secure or have reached their goal, they are always vulnerable-- quick to win the favor of the wealthy and social important and quick to lose it. these individuals are particularly vulnerable to gossip and slander.

the meddler is an individual whose life's work is to arrange and rearrange the affairs of others. they have an opinion on everything and they are not afraid to share it. gossip and rumors are their currency and they find great joy in predicting the lives and actions of others. the meddler controls the free exchange of information, even if it's not necessarily completely the truth or the truth at all! the more information the gain the more confident and powerful this individual becomes. they are constantly scheming and often claim it is in the best interest of others. at most times, they are blind to the schemes and intentions towards themselves as they are too caught up in puppeteering the lives of others.

who says having a dead spouse isn't fun? financial and social freedom afforded to them by age and a dead partner!
despite losing their spouse, the dowager has gained a large sum of money and gained social freedom. the dowager is often an older character, old enough to have children, nieces, nephews-- all fighting for a place in the dowagers will. they yield power through their age, wealth, and status, making them an incredibly powerful and important person to be on the good side of. despite the benefits of their social and financially freedom, they are often plagued with relatives with ulterior motives and painful memories from the past. though the dowager often doesn't struggle financially, the ghosts of the past haunt them.

depends on the good will of others for the daily necessities of life.
the dependent, by whatever misfortune plagued their life, lives in the house of another, dependent on their kindness to survive in life. these are incredibly vulnerable individuals, striving to find something that might be theirs on a permanent basis. the dependent has yet to find a true home and are at the mercy of those that house them. perhaps they are haunted by memories of their past and their first and only home? something compels them to seek more than what they have.

we don't chose our families; most of the time, we're stuck with the ones we get. and it's our job to prevent them from orchestrating their own ruin....
the cornerstone's first and only priority is to protect their family name at whatever cost, even if everything around them is erupting in chaos and scandal. they are constantly wrangling poorly behaved family members and ends up cleaning up messed that are not their own. sometimes, their unending duty and obligation to their family leaves them jaded, tyrannical and controlling towards others. the cornerstone is obsessed with social order and is most often the enforcer of said social order. perceptive to a fault, the cornerstone can see bad intentions ahead of time and may warn family members or others with the aim of preventing misfortune or injury. unfortunately, they are rarely believe for listened to.

we all enjoy the finer things in life... in the largest quantity possible.... of the most expensive kind...
why be humble about the wealth one has when you can spend your time enjoying the lavish luxury afforded to you by status and wealth? the hedonist are the beating heart of a majority of the town's social life, as they (or their families) are regularly hosts of balls, dinners, picnics, and other social events which require large sums of money and a taste for the refined. they are surrounded by people all the time, though that doesn't mean the are close with anyone. more often than not, the hedonist may struggle with some sort of money problem which may lead to them squandering their or their families wealth. they are extremely popular among the town and may partake in not only financial recklessness, but social recklessness.

not the wealthiest of sorts, but often a tutor or governess in the house of someone important.
the tutor works to educate the children of affluent individuals around them. often a spinster or young unmarried woman, the tutor are constantly surrounded by influential and wealthy people whom they may have close relationships with. they are beneath those around them-- as well and nice as their employers may be, they will always be lesser than in the eyes of those above. while their status as lady or gentleman allows them to mix in the social circles, they can never be equals to those they work for. often, they know many secrets in the household, overhearing private conversations or being confidants to individuals to the house.

dedicated to their career above all else, despite their wealth or status.
the careerist, while a broad category, is someone who is dedicated to and performs well in the profession they choose for themselves. a few common professions for the careerist are as follows: clergymen, military or naval officers, physicians or barristers. the careerist is dedicated and respected by those in the community, admired for their devotion to their work. often, careerists may not fare well in social situations, so consumed by their work that they lack the social awareness necessary to navigate through high society as well as others. these individuals may be aloof, awkward, or shy in the face of many social situations.

has only recently arrived in society... or perhaps returned?
the new arrival, as the name suggests, is an individual who has arrived from somewhere else-- be it a different country or simply an hour up the road. they may have lived in london their whole life, left, and only recently returned or perhaps they're new to the town all together! little is known about the new arrival, returner or not, and those on the inside are hungry for the hidden secrets of the new arrival! they are a novelty to all those around. if they don't keep their secrets close to them, they're destined to spread about society... they're the object of everyone's interests, new, shiny, and curious.

2. Many of the functions of this story require discord so please have discord!
3. All RPN rules apply. While this story will include a ton of drama, the drama needs to remain IC. No OOC drama, bullying, bigotry or discrimination will be tolerated.
4. Try not to preestablish romance! While there is no way to prevent this, leaving this up to fate and interaction will keep things interesting for everyone!
5. Be able to write 2+ paragraphs and post once a week. Life often gets in the way which is completely understandable, but in the interest of keeping the story alive posting more regularly is preferred. This is NOT a ghost friendly roleplay! Please communicate if you become disinterest!
6. This roleplay is an application based rp, not first come first serve. Guidelines are below.
7. Despite this being a story set in a historic era, all sexualities, races, and gender identities will be welcomed with open arms! Again, any sort of discrimination or hate speech will not be tolerated!
