Telvata is a world inhabited by many but ruled over by just two races, Elves and Demons. Both species born with mana and have the inherent ability to wield magic. It's no wonder that elves and demons of various kinds rose to the top of society.
images-50.jpeg
The ability to conjure the elements...
To shapeshift larger smaller or completely different...
Telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation and more...

To common races, which are those born without mana. (most of them) Magic is a thing to be admired and feared from afar. A Elf or Demon could change your life forever or end it instantly from a distance. One moment you could be enjoying sunlight and then darkness forever because you die to a demon's giant ghostly skeletal hand or some other stupid bullshit being made from nothing but thought and willpower...

This tale is about a party of individuals who managed to bridge the gap between common and magical races. By means of genius invention, trial and error, practice and training along with stubborn determination and perhaps a touch of crazy.
This party is the sort to craft weapons or armor out of monsters and mana-stones to simulate magic like effects,
This lot risk fingers hair and skin finding the materials to make new exciting ways to murder like guns cannons and speciality bombs,
This lot would bait a dragon into the upcoming battle provided they had fireproof attire and the correct bait...

And this group is made up of five main members.

The Blacksmith, Handles heat well.
A person able to create and destroy with said creations. A warrior as much as they are a craft master.

The Alchemist, Demolition/Medic
Be it flora or fauna, mineral or monster... Think "medieval fantasy Rick Sanchez" this one knows what's needed to create what you dream up. Or will destroy themselves and the surrounding area trying to figure it out...

The Hunter, the most qualified to cook.
A expertise in killing creatures, monsters and knowing which parts are useful and how best to acquire them.

The Jack, of all trades...
But master of none. Here to round out the numbers, extra hands where hands are needed but still damn reliable hands, ok?...

The Ace, head honcho/chief/boss.
The leader of this party. With the charisma and ambition to gather and keep a eccentric lot together with the goal of changing the world for the better... or perhaps revenge on the magical races?

More roles can be determined if the player count is high enough or you have a idea that fits well.

Its a medieval fantasy campaign with the party unable to cast magic. They need to play monster hunter to craft equipment to mimic magic and kick shit like medieval fantasy Ironman.

Winged boots for a double jump with a chest plate harnessing the wind that launches one forward with enough momentum to swing a massive flaming sword crafted from the spine of a monster.

A rifle made of obsidian using gunpowder to fire various types of bullets or mana-stones to fire blasts of magic in a beam.

Regardless of what they wield or how, this common group have become famous. Enough so that both the Elf alliance and the Demonic kingdoms have demanded a alliance with said party. Both sides believing these eccentric commons have the means to end the stalemate that is the ongoing war between Elfs and Demons. A war common races have been conscripted into for over a century now.

MFH could tip the scales one way or another, perhaps they could overthrow both factions? Either way they have some spectacular and bullshit stupid battles ahead of them.
You can join Murder for hire assuming you can write two paragraphs or more once or twice a week.

Interested, already piecing together an Ysgramor-type character in my head somewhere, to eradicate the Elven scourge as Pelinal Whitestrake—Kynareth's blessings upon him—tried once before.
Thinking someone fanatical... A lunatic on the edge. Barely holding his composure even when elves are not involved, but too cunning. Snake with rabies?

* Such a character might be the Jack, or the Alchemist, depending how the GM intended these roles to be played. The Rick Sanchez analogy leads me to believe they'd be more suited toward the Alchemist role.

** I don't have a completed character sheet, but I just drafted a character concept with bits of lore contribution mixed in, an abstraction I will edit below into a spoiler as a gesture of good faith and genuity, and a willingness to spitball lore.

Lucas Ashenhand wasn’t always the figure of dread he is now. Once a commander of grit and purpose, he fought under the weight of Human lives, shackled under Elven rule. Back then, his eyes burned with something real. But that fire turned black after a raid by Elven sentinels wiped out his kin. Whether by fate or cunning, that massacre sparked a vengeance in Lucas that would scorch the world, leaving no room for heroes or humanity.

Gone is the commander—now stands the Scourge of Light, a man whose pallid face and spectral eyes tell of a soul bound to the Abyss. A crown of eldritch symbols circles his head, marks of a pact struck in darkness. His hands, branded by demonic relics, wield destruction with cold calculation. Lucas Ashenhand isn’t just another warrior; he’s a harbinger, bringing ruin in his wake.

The Elves, immortal and proud, became the core of his hatred. Their beauty, their control over his people—they became symbols of everything he vowed to destroy. Lucas wasn’t satisfied with swords or spears; he wanted something more brutal. When he caught wind of the Elves’ war with Demons, he saw his opening and walked willingly into the Abyss. He bartered his soul, gaining power and artifacts capable of carving through the Elven ranks. But he isn’t blind to the Demons’ game; he knows he’s a pawn in their dark designs. To Lucas, they’re tools, disposable in his relentless crusade.

The world sees his path as madness. He doesn’t care. To him, every step in the dark, every forbidden relic grasped, every soul-burning cut from his Fang of Oblivion is one step closer to erasing the Elves from the world. And he’ll go it alone if he has to. Allies, if they come, are a means to an end. Entire villages have fallen as casualties in his vendetta, collateral to the cause. Even the Demons, twisted as they are, shiver at his ruthlessness.

Lucas' arsenal is as dark as his soul. The Obsidian Crown gives him dominion over lesser Demons, but he rules them with chilling indifference. The Whisper Shroud keeps him invisible to arcane eyes, allowing him to slip into Elven citadels, a silent nightmare. With these artifacts and his corrupted powers, he’s become a walking terror. The high Elven council itself whispers his name, warning of the Harbinger that their light may not extinguish.

But Lucas’ ambition gnaws at him, his lust for vengeance consuming his humanity inch by inch. He’s blind to his own downfall, ignoring the warnings of his allies and mockery from the Demons who'd granted him power. The Elves have branded him a threat to all life, forcing every hand against him, and even his alliance with the Demons—though provisional and perfunctory—was severed as they cast him out, a pariah humiliated by all sides.

shallow grave shallow grave hopefully more people are down to play cause I'd like to see more of you. What you've written is awesome and could probably be its own role if we hammer down a few things lore wise.
the only thing i have to say no to outright is the crown of dominance over demons.

i can go over more once a cs page is up (if two or three more people show up ill make it)

But if you wanna pm me about lore or ask questions here I'll be happy to answer them

As someone who hasn't played a proper roleplay with a real story in over a decade, that actually means a lot. I figured the Crown of Domination would be a firm "no" which is why I stipulated that his uneasy alliance with the Demons was dissolved. Although the crown is still in his possession, it no longer holds power. I guess I should have belabored my vision for that one.

The Crown of Domination was bound to Lucas' soul, the greatest symbol of faith that the Demon lords could offer to a 'lowly human' for his ferocity, his ambition, his efficacy. The Crown cannot be separated from Lucas by any magics, it is a part of his soul itself now, as much a part of him as the skin on his bones. However, the Demons know this well, and in their cruel ways they have altered his Crown, his blessing, and twisted it.
What was once a symbol of his power, his prestige, and his trustworthiness has been perverted by the magic of the Demon lords. It is now disabled, deformed, and serves as a stigma of his interminable humiliation. A cruel irony, a blessing turned into a curse. A mark of honor turned into a haunting shame.

What ever you happen to decide as the GM, it's just a character concept for now anyway. Nothing set in stone. I'm sure I will make significant changes as we discuss the world-building further. I only posted it to show initiative and maybe spark some creativity in anyone who reads it, generate some interest and courage for anybody who is on the fence.

hello i think this premise is quite cool... reading over it all just to get a grip on it again but yeah i quite like! probably most interested in The Jack because i love characters who are a little Incompetent. i don't have any crazy cool backstory ideas or anything which i guess fits that role too lol. let me know if you'd like me to come up with something

All anyone needs to do is think of gear their character can use to make them capable of spectacular shit and the monsters that make said gear.

Like having a rubber lined cloak to make a blast of electricity a nothingburger attack.
Teeth of a giant toxic snake carved into bullets so a sniper can blow apart limbs and make wounds that can't be healed due to instant necrosis.
The skull of a wyrvern turned into a megaphone to amplify a war drum made from aquatic dragon glands to make a water cannon that matches blastoise...

Think up the gear you want and a fantasy monster whose insides or skeleton will help you do bullshit on a adventure.

kinda like Monster hunter with a dash more of fantasy

well... if i want to be the Jack. how about some sort of Mega Octopus Tentacle Apparatus. a jacket perhaps? with some magical sentience-giving cores stitched into the lining? gives my character essentially an extra eight limbs to do whatever with. they aren't remarkable limbs but many tentacles make light work!

that could be their Signature Item but i can come up with more if needed. pretty cool

Extra arms with their own sentience, Off the top of my head...
Think along the lines of a plant much like a bulbasaur mixed with a Venus fly trap, but not a creature.
It has vines that can attack and grapple shit to put into its flowering "mouth" to consume said shit. You might make a outfit lined with said plant and wear a living one as a backpack that attacks with 2-3 vines and attempts to eat anything that isn't you due to wearing its skin over your clothes or something.

The Jack of all trades and Ace are more the balanced warrior members of the team while the others "min-maxed" into their professions to be renown for said skills.
There's not many better at brewing potions and making explosives than the Alchemist, the Blacksmith is crafting stuff on a level like 10 and 11 while everyone else can hardly manage lvl 9 shit. Etc etc

Intrigued!

Right off the bat, I've developed an interest in the hunter! I kind of imagine a guy or gal whose lived in a rough area frequented by monsters of all kinds - so their village or family thing learnt how to deal with them so now he/she is an expert on monsters as a result.

Probably mildly chaotic with questionable means on doing most things. The type to eat some dirt and say 'oh yeah, the target went this way north east traveling with three more of its kind so we can assume it's a mom with kids' and everyone else is (rightfully so) like '???'
