Metal Fish Out of Water [Closed]

That's not unreasonable to think either - but ultimately there hasn't been much of a discussion on local pantheons and gods at all between the PCs, so everyone is free to draw their own conclusions. Ruby Eyes can be assumed to know as much about local gods and stuff as someone who has simply grown up in a land with the usual amounts of superstition and whatnot... Burning Lion has 1 dot in Occult, so he would at least know the basics of who what and where of gods.

Either way, it the decision on what to do seems to be back in Burning Lion's ballpark? If we're to head to the gundai he needs to lead you all to the military training grounds. Alternatly he can lead the way to the Silver Coyote's palace.

  • Burning Lion nods gravely. "Then let us go meet Silver Coyote at once, and you'll be able to judge his character yourself."

"Okay guys, that was sort of abrupt, but since you guys obviously don't want me to come along..." Ruby said while waving the tablets around "I guess i'll go do something else... I have to say 1 and 3 on my todo list are doable but i am most definitely not very good at 2..."

"Hmmm how about i just make a list of stores/warehouses/etc and then you" he said in the direction of Freeman "can check out the details yourself... Oh and by the way Freeman, quick tip, the easiest way to not stand out is to just act like you know EXACTLY what you're doing and where you're going. You can bluff your way past almost anyone wearing almost anything once you got that little trick down. Since you didn't seem to want the full on course that's the best tip i can give you...."

And thus the party splits up, with most of them heading towards the Silver Coyote's palace, while Ruby Eyes slinks off into the start shadows cast by the bright southern noonday sun.

The palace, as already mentioned, turns out to be built into the city wall with a large square in front of it. It is a rather impressive structure, built in sandstone, and seems to be one of the only places where in the dusty city where green plants grow These are the first bushes and flowers that the alchemicals see, outside of the few palm trees and dried up with dead trees that are more common near Burning Lion's village.

Guards dressed in tunics identical to those at the city gate you entered through patrol the grounds in front of the palace, and messengers, clerks and other officials mill about in front of the palace - or going to and fro on their own business.

Freeman hands Ara a thin stone slab:

Code:
Correct me if wrong - but most diplomatic operations
are usually conducted with forewarning.
We must establish our presence in a way not intimidating,
but also legitimate - and it appears that rule legitimacy here
is primarily established via shows of force.
I would suggest we find a secluded location adjacent to this
square and remove these cloaks and don all of our armor
and equipment - then enter into the square and declare
our intentions.

"Indeed you're right, but the qualification most does prove there are exceptions. We are not here as a diplomatic envoy, but as explores who are engaging in diplomacy. Procedural deference and schedules are for dealing with known quantities and some level of mutual trust and understanding. What we have here is frontier diplomacy. Attempting to schedule a meeting prior to a first meeting is tricky at best, and insulting as a point along the worse axis, but far from it's terminus." She explained to the orichalcum caste. "I'm not opposed to lowering our hoods on approach, as of right now making a scene is to our benifit, as long as we can keep our momentum and see the silver large-rat."

Reaching for the sandstone plate,Freeman flips it over and writes on the other side:

Code:
I will defer to your and Mari's choice.
I simply hope that we can make progress
without coming to blows

  • The Estasian sighed softly at the situation. Ruby Eye's point was accurate and the current banter between her fellow Chosen of the Great Maker was far from helping things. So far the group had abandoned the plan to meet with Burning Lion's contacts, discarded the plan to conceal the sacred nature of Modulator and Marionette, and now nearly cast off the plan to approach the Silver dog-ruler directly.

Pitching her voice low but firm, the Starmetal tried to prompt them into action, "The constant alteration of strategy can be crippling. We need to commit and see the operation through. Until we have additional information, carry on as ordained." Her focus turned towards the diplomat, "Avatar, you may approach primarily as is your ordained purpose, flanked and supported by your fellow Champions."

  • Burning Lion going first would be fine. Marionette mostly meant that Avatar would take the primary interaction role for the Alchemicals. That said... going up to greet someone while you're being represented someone who vocally wants to overthrow the first party can, well, have diplomatic consequences.

I want to avoid double-posting, so Marion won't do anything else until one of the more social characters acts.

A bird of prey briefly circles overhead, high above the square, silently serveiling the area, before disappearing down towards the city's rooftops.

((Now come on guys - what is the hold up? Are you all waiting for someone else to say something? Take some initiative!))

Ya I know. Ok, guys - seriously.

Everyone aside from Ruby Eyes is in the square in front of the Silver Coyete's palace. There are guards milling about, plus enough foot-traffic and people pushing/hauling carts and goods that

Ava, Mari: What do you want to do? Do you step forward and announce yourself, requesting an audience with the Silver Coyote - or do you let Burning Lion do that first?

Burning Lion: Will you wait for the metal-people to waste time with the Silver Coyote, or will you boldly go forth on your rightous quest for justice?

Ava sighed... things needed to get rolling and quickly. Can't let the motion stagnate in the vat. Ava walked toward the gate, in doing so, letting her cloak fall open. Disguise abandoned, and regalia that her brother did give her displaying it's full splendor she walked to the door. A mere pointed look at those who would impede her should be enough as she marched onward to the very heart of this nation to take it's pulse.

((Am I to assume that Ava reverts her disguise charm - or is she still looking like a drop dead gorgeous human woman??))

Ok. Also, why do all the avatars I see look flipped upside down!?

Anywho:

  • The guards quickly notice the strange but undeniably and seemingly impossibly (App 6) metal beauty, her clay flesh shining like polished silver. Like a living metal statue of a heavenly beauty, her galant stride and the shining dress of light formed by her infinite resplendence amulet makes those who see her question whether they're seeing a god or a living creature - of course, normal people don't look like living metal people, so most of the guards do as costumary in Ozmea when in the presence of spirits and divinities: They bow down completely on their knees, head to the ground as she ascends the stairs to the palace front gate.

Quickly following her, still in his hood, is Freeman with a frown on his face - and behind him is Mari because Freeman is pulling her along.

This leaves Burning Lion in the busy square - though the level of activity is quickly decreasing as more and more people spot the shining silver goddess approaching the castle.

(App 10, Infinite Resplendence Amulet is up, and I use the Thousandfold Courtesan Calculations so the cap on the bonus I get is +/- 6, not +/- 3. And yes, I'm sure some gods/goddess of beauty have jealousy/lust.)

Ava lets a serine and confident smile show while she desires to smirk. She see's how they prostrate themselves before her... is this place so without champions, or worse corrupt champions so much that that is the standard reaction to a foreign champion then this region needed more aid then she thought. She continued to lead her assembly into the center of the building, toward where she felt through watching how people moved and where the guards stood to where this Silver Coyote is in his grand hall.

Suddenly a large eagle flared it's wings and landed on the shoulder of Lion, and pecked him on the head with some insistence. Closer examination shows the eagle to be carrying a note in its beak folded up, a little scrunched from the flight but otherwise intact.

((Vinom, you need an Essence 5, App 5 Submodule to uncap the App bonus... so no, you don't get that benefit))

Keeping his hood and cloak on, Burning Lion follows a few paces behind the metal-people, lagging a bit behind while he opens the Ruby Eyes's message.

What could he possible want to inform him about?

"Hey Lion,

For you information, I have been contacted by a former associate/boss. And I have been put on retainer to kill you. It seems your "Treason" and "Sedition" have made you a liability or something.

Ooh apparently i was a murderer for hire... Shows what you can find out walking around town for a while...

But as I was saying apparently the King wants you dead, no body, no witnesses, no trace and if i can pull this off i get three times standard fee. However that much is...

I think i need to go through the motions in case they have someone looking out for me. so this will be my last communication. Might be wise to start thinking off a way to get out of town for you without anyone noticing...

Ash

P.S. Apparently i am called Ash! "
