Masters of Essence

Use Thaumaturgy to summon the God/dess of Merchants. They'll probably buy or sell anything, have huge resources, be willing to deal (with somewhat of a tax for the bother of being summoned...) and likely, will have a nifty Spirit Charm that lets them summon/banish anything to and from their extradimensional sanctum/warehouse/shopping centre.

Do you really want to deal with the God of Wal-Mart?  He may not like being accused of lying thru his tooth.

I'd be more worried that the god/ess of merchants or trade would fleece the clothes off your back and sell you dirt for silver.

Precisely why it's suitable for one of the Exalted to do. What else are Eclipses for?

Besides the oath thing.

I pull this in my game occasionally, though he looks like the merchant from the (Disney) Aladdin movie.  And, yes, I do try to sell the combination hookah and coffeemaker (also makes julienne fries).

I see a large difference, in terms of disruption of the Loom of Fate, between a Charm conjuring a small amount of food, and a Charm creating a brand new human being, complete with a merchantile business, where none had existed before.

i would consider a "Make merchant" type charm be about an essence 8 minimum

so the list of who would kick the offender's arse is small

Making people from nothing is, like, the height of hubris. Do it too much and you'd have Gaia after you.

Why would an Essence 8 Exalt need to make a merchant, anyway? And how would the make a merchant who's capable of buying or selling from them? If they can just make stuff that they want to trade for by creating it out of thin air along with the merchant, why trade for it at all?

I would think (hope?), that a Solar with 8 Essence would have better things to spend his time on then trying to unload some merchandise for cash. Seriously.

Furthermore, if they were to have the ability to create merchants out of thin air, don't you think it would be more broadly useful, as a Charm, for them to just create people, of any stripe?

I remember a Wyld shaping Charm that did that.  Actually two of them, if I remember.  They were both Solar Charms.

Right, but those Charms require special circumstances, like access to the Wyld. This seems to be more of a *poof! there's a merchant!* power.

Now that you brought this up:

How do characters handle spirits? I mean, Ess 5+ Exalts oughta be Small Gods in their own right. How do the courts or other spirits deal with them?

It would be interesting if a Solar of considerable power could gain access into Yu-Shan to attend to a Spirit Court meeting for example, or if he/she could actually be given duties by one of the bureaus to reflect his power or responsibilities!

Just think about it: A legendary eclipse trader vies for the posistion of the god of merchants. The two candidates face off in a world spanning mercantile duel, each trying to subdue the other! Sabotage, bureaucratic pitfalls.

Not bad...

In practise, they would be assassinated by Bronze Sidereals faster than Chejop Kejak can say "Over my dead body" and ironically perish.

Depends on when and what they're there for, and who saw them roll in.

The Bronze Faction are still Sidereals, and the Celestial Bureacracy is still their game--and Solars can play that game too.

uteck that hasn't changed... the eclipse diplomatic immunity is something else, the Yu Shan passes for celestial exalts even ext4ends to the Abyssal exalted

this is probably better left to the storyteller or players in general but i'll ask anyway

So what would you suggest from essence 6 - 10 on happening to the particular exalt  Do Solars simply get an Aura of Greatness that might even have some type of effect IC, I think in the first edition story with Mr Kejak he could casually view the loom of fate, maybe lunars could shapeshift parts of their bodies for no essence cost at essence 9 or ten

just a thought
