Jill Davenport/Spitfire: Helicarrier
4512328aa410fd495f3da8fe938bc2f4--female-character-inspiration-writing-inspiration.jpg

Jill had decided to stick around, heading to the command centre with Armoury. She walked with her arms behind her back, standing up straight to make an impression on the other, higher-ranking SHIELD agents.
"So, how long have you been doing this, I mean...Flying around and catching bad guys?" She asked Armoury "And shouldn't we be worried about that Earthquake guy just a little more? What if he's part of something bigger? And what about..."

Her eyes widened with shock "Oh, crap! I gotta check back on my ap...Um, headquarters."

"I know of your family's legacy of greatness. Erik Lehnsherr, Magneto, one of the greatest mutants to ever exist. Pietro Maximoff, Quicksilver, user of the Mists of Terrigen and an ally to the Avengers. And of course, Wanda Maximoff, the most beautiful and strongest of the Avengers." He smiled as he spoke of her lineage, before taking one of her hands, and softly kissing it. "Your family has a history in the Hellfire Club. It would have been stupid if I didn't offer you the place you have inherited."

While Peter spoke, Zara's eyebrow sharpened into a deep groove. After all the years back home, after all the stories Papa had told her about Wanda, why had Zara never heard of this Club? Nor her ancestors' place within it? Why would Mother purposefully send her here without mentioning these people if their history was so ingrained with them? No, something was off. Something had to be off. As his lips touched the back of Zara's hand, the scarlet energy round her arm began to pulse angrily. The air surrounding Peter's face vibrated with an excited, anxious tone. Suddenly, a spark of her incandescent power lashed at him with a fierce hiss as he pulled away. Both of Zara's eyes snapped down to her knuckles with a surprised expression, and she grunted ever so slightly as her jaw squeezed. With a defeated sigh, the small blip that attempted to attack Peter withdrew. Her attention redirected to him, she stammered with a seeming loss of focus, "I-I don't understand. What is this place? Who are you people? What do you mean 'my family has a history here?'"
"You see, I am the current Black King. I run the Hellfire Club," he replied. "Your great grandfather was the White King. He was second in charge to Sebastian Shaw. Now that they are both dead, I became the Black King. And since you are a Maximoff, I offer you the title of White Queen."
"You didn't answer all my questions."
His eyes darkened, sinking deeper into the skull painted on his features. Hushed voices began to circulate through the audience as he lowered his glare. That piercing gaze locked on the woman, and he impatiently exhaled through his nose. "I thought the rest was self explanatory. This is the Hellfire Club. It is what the average person would call the Illuminati. We are simply a club that consists of the upper echelon of society. A club which decides the fate of the world around us."

Zara winced. Her hazel irides were held by Peter's stare, and her lips parted slightly as if frozen in place. Within the confines of her skull, the young mutant could feel something shift. It was impossible to describe, yet far too real at the same time. She was... attracted to him. The Black King's pupils became endless; a pair of black holes which singularly pulled, and pulled, and pulled. And his voice, even with the harsh tone it had taken- it was so smooth... like honeydew... Two inches disappeared from Zara's height, as the rigid posture she had been so on guard with relaxed a bit. The waves of red energy that once cascaded from her arms had now been reduced to nothing more than faint whispers of their former selves. "I suppose... I could stay for a while..."
"Wonderful!" he exclaimed, before fully making his way into her mind. His hypnotic charm was in full swing now, like a predator latched into its kill. "Are you hungry? Thirsty? Looking for a high?"
Each line, quirk, curl, and wrinkle quickly evaporated from the gypsy's face, along with the last flash of the scarlet power that once lined her skin. A bright smile crept its way onto the corners of her lips, cast in the residual glow of a purple neon tube. "I am a little thirsty," she sing-songed, quite truthfully. "I could be everything else too, if you want..."
"No no no no, it's fine. Though I would not mind bringing you with me to dinner. All I ask is that you agree to be a member of the Hellfire Club," he said with a grin, extending his black leather gloved hand out to her.
Zara cocked her head slightly, widening her expression to mirror his. She placed her palm upon his with a gentle touch and cooed, "I would love to be by your side..."
(SO SO SO SO SORRY)
Black Peter smiled quite kindly, while knowing full well that his plan had worked, and that he now had her completely under his thumb. Opening the curtain to check on the time and how bright it was outside, hew frowned at the sunlight, the bright light hurting his head, though not enough to dampen his telekinetic powers. taking a deep breath, he looked around for his assistant, who was nowhere in sight. "Mickey!!!" The Black King shouted, before a smaller man who was dressed like Peter and with matching face paint ran to his side.
"Yes sir?" Mickey asked, looking incredibly happy to his duty, loyal and wanting to please his boss
"Please accompany Miss Maximoff to the limo and have it drive her home, please. We'll meet at nine. But for now," Black Peter turned back to face his future White Queen, and kissed the back of her hand. "I shall see you tonight."

Location: Hell's Kitchen, New York

In a dimly lit office room a lanky figure with a large head was talking on a phone within the shadows.
"Why yes, I have seen the news," the figure spoke in a sophisticated manner to someone on the other end of the line, "A pity really, I was hoping that the young gentleman was able to eliminate those ultras..." the figure paused to let the person on the other end speak but he noticed a burst of light emanated from behind the figure, "Sorry to run this a bit short, but I have far more important matters to attend to." The figure hung up his phone and turned to see a mystic portal as woman appeared from within the portal.
The figure bowed before the woman and said, "I am honored that you have chosen me to plan out your anniversary."
"I want the anniversary to go without a hitch, Jack O'Lantern." the woman casual said as she ate a candy bar.
"Oh of course, milady," the figure paused and said, "But don't call me Jack O'Lantern, my dear... We're business partners now..." the figure raised its head to reveal its Jack O'Lantern head, "Call me Lord Pumpkin."
The woman wasn't phased by the horrifying visage and merely shrugged, "Whatever... Just don't screw it up."

Hugh Kraus/Captain Robor: Arctic Circle, AIM facility
3bd14264705342f931556cd6a34740e7.jpg

Hugh sat with one hand rested under his chin on a metal chair. Several small and coated tubes were plugged into it, each one piercing the man through the back. Despite this, he showed no look of pain on his face. Rather, disappointment as he watched a screen.

"The perpetrator in question was taken away by SHIELD..." A reporter explained
"He'll be at the Raft then." A voice spoke. There was a slight Eastern-European trace in his accent, but it had become faded.
Hugh looked to his left, seeing a middle-aged man with a balding head and brown eyes step towards him and gave him a smile.

"Obviously." He sighed "Just imagine the power that such a facility would need to operate. If I tapped into even a fraction of it's power, I could keep myself fed for a few years, perhaps even decades!" He outstretched a hand "And that's not even mentioning the prisoners."
"Just don't feed on the A..." Stein added
"Nonetheless, an attack on the Raft would be disastrous."
"So what are you going to do?" Stein asked
"Wait. Attacking The Raft for the sake of rescuing a few dullard lackeys and for feeding is...Preposterous. Especially when the world outside is full of potential. Did you see how many heroes showed up to the fight?"
"I did." Stein nodded "We've come across some of them before."
"Even one of them would be enough. So much youth, and fury. I wouldn't even have to feed completely."

He winced as he stood from the chair, the tubes releasing small amounts of steam as they were unplugged from his back.
"I'm going to America. I trust you'll remain here?"

Stein shot Hugh a blank glare.
"Fair enough."
"I'll try to keep in touch over the radio, but try to remember that you are not my only project." He sighed

An entourage of heroes had successfully defeated the demigod villain. Afterwards, the heroes dispersed, going their separate ways. Jordan, the demigod villain, was transported to a holding facility. Now that it's nighttime, however, our heroes and villains will explore the night life, and all that it has to offer. Will they party? Plot a heist? or will they simply go on a night patrol?

Somewhere in New York.

Alarm bells rang across the once quiet streets of New York as a jewelry store was robbed by a very curious felon.
Logo.png
The Store was filled up with smoke from a smoke bomb to aid in the villain's escape as she casually walked out of the door she stood triumphantly and raised her bounty up in victory, "Twas a long night but the White Rabbit must..." she paused as if she was thinking up of a way to follow up her words she then shrugged to herself, "Whatever... I'll be off then!" she then made her exit from the scene with a big grin on her face.

Armory

After a long briefing with the higher-ups at SHIELD, he was called to the R&D department where a technician greeted him. He is holding a claymore, safely tucked in its scabbard. "It's finished," he said and he handed Armory the claymore. Armory inspected the blade before releasing from its scabbard, revealing a shiny metallic sword.

"It's Vibranium?"

"Not any Vibranium. Arctic Vibranium. It emanates vibration, weakening the molecular bonds of what it hits. Even adamantium." the technician explains.

Armory nods and sheathed back the blade and place it on his back. "This is great, thank you."

"At least the higher-ups didn't ask us to make another frisbee." the technician chuckle.

*****
Armory is back in New York, riding another two million dollar SHIELD bike as he makes his way towards Queens, his home. He looked at the time, it's already past nine and he called the nearest pizza for a delivery. He took another right turn and into the driveway of a house and entered its garage. He is finally home. Armory took off his armor and weapon and place it back into the Cylinder and tucked it back into his personal dimension. He intends on spending his night, glued to his television, binged watching every Jackie Chan and Jet Li's film, starting with the first Drunken Master.

New York, atop the rooftops
Phantom Thief of Hearts Phantom Thief of Hearts

Jonah stands on top of the roof of his own home, clad in his own superhero uniform. A black, leather bicker jacket and slacks along with yellow gloves with a brass handguard. He wears a red neckerchief along with a skull mask he made at 7th grade. From there, he leapt from roof to roof, patrolling his own neighborhood. It's true that most of the action happened at this city, but for the meantime, things seemed a little quiet. Soon enough, just as he passed by a Jewelry store, an alarm rung, prompting him to stop and look as white smoke flooded out of the store.

Welp. Perhaps he spoke a little too soon.

Jonah watched as the smoke cleared just enough to spot the silhouette of a young woman, about her 20s, holding a sack of...Something. Maybe that's loot? Whatever it is, it's stolen.

"Alright, that's the first crime I've seen tonight..." Jonas gulped as the woman's silhouette moved, revealing a woman clad in a bunny suit, making a run for it. "And the first one I get to stop!" He muttered as he let out a grin opting to follow her from the rooftops, aiming to corner the bunny criminal...

The White Rabbit
((On the Run))

The White Rabbit ran a few good feet away from the jewelry store only to stop and check her watch, "Oh come on, some super hero has gotta notice this..." she sighed and muttered out, "Do I need to have earthquake powers or something?"

White Rabbit then grabbed her trick umbrella and said, "Well maybe if I make a bigger show for them." She pressed a button that fired fireworks up towards the sky. The fireworks produced the image of a rabbit much to the delight of White Rabbit.

Jonah was still tailing the bunnygirl when she stopped and looked at her watch. Was she waiting for someone? For something to happen? Before he could think of why, the bunny girl took out an umbrella and shot out some fireworks, completely revealing her location.

"What the hell? Why would she do that?" Jonah muttered as he jumped down, sliding down the electric pole with his mutant ability, yellow lightning streaked around his body. He soon called out to the bunny girl. "Hey, bunny bitch!" He called out, approaching the bunny girl. "What're ya gonna do with all that dough?" He asked as he cracked his fist, ready to take on the villain. . .

White Rabbit

'He's a bit vulgar but hey beggars can't be choosers,' she thought to herself as a masked hero arrived on to the scene to stop her.
The White Rabbit smiled with glee as if she wanted the attention then she regained her composure and fired her trick umbrella which fired a smoke bomb to distract her newly found adversary. "Sorry, I'm late for a very important date!" she said as she made a mad dash to the opposite direction, dropping her loot in the process, though she didn't seem to mind as if this whole stunt was an elaborate game of cops and robbers to her.

Jonah was ready to go all stungun on her tie her up, but it appears that the bunny girl was a bit clever yet he couldn't wrap his head around why would she even want to attract some attention when she'll run away. It just doesn't make sense! Before chasing the bunnygirl, Jonah picked up the loot and tossed it along the sidewalk, landing somewhere the store it came from. Or even at a random house. With a grunt of annoyance, Jonah began to chase the bunny girl through the smoke since it'll be the most logical route she'll go for. Jonah decided to turn off his enhanced electrical field, since there might be a few civilians that he might hurt if he accidentally bumped into them.

However, this begs the question, where the hell is this woman going?!

Somewhere in Manhattan...

The lamp above the gangster's head flickered, before going out entirely but he paid little mind to it. The city had been struck with a minor earthquake earlier, and perhaps it was just loose wires. He rolled his eyes and reached for a cigarette. He wore light body armour, and in his hands held a sub-machine gun. He hated guard duty, but it paid enough.
He tried to flick his lighter, only for the flame to quickly go out.
"Shit. Hey Tony, you got a light?" He asked. The man standing next to him was taller, bulkier and just as annoyed to be there as the man standing next to him.
"You know I don't smoke."
"Worth a shot." The gangster shrugged "How long are they going to take, anyway?"
"Hell if I know. We don't get paid to ask questions, dumbass. So keep your head down and keep a lookout for the pigs."
"Or some hero type."
"Don't say that. Friend of my Pops had a run in with the Devil of Hell's Kitchen once."
"God, I hate this city...Are you sure you ain't got a light?"
"I checked."
"Check again."
"I'm telling you, I don't smoke you idiot. Keep your voice down."
"Let me get that for you."

alien_cyborg_medusa_by_danslab-d79smbl.jpg

The two criminals turned around, standing face to face with an eight foot tall giant. It smiled down at them.
"What the hell." Tony muttered "Look, if you're one of those vigilantes...I'm ready to turn myself in."
"Tony!" The gangster snapped
"Read the room, Bert!"

The giant tilted it's head to the side, drawing a blade from one of it's arms.
"Tony, was it?" She asked "You can go."
"R-really?"
"It would be a waste. Throw down your gun and go."

Tony dropped his sub-machine gun and started to run away, only taking one look back as the giant glared at him. His eyes widened with fear as he could do little more than watch as a blade fired from the giant's wrist, piercing him through the chest and killing him within a second.
The giant then knelt down to Bert's height. While the gangster raised his gun, she remained still. Sweat trickled down the sides of Bert's face as the gun started to shake in his hands.
"Take the shot. Put up a fight."
"Wh-what?"
"Take the shot, human. Try to make this memorable."

As Bert slowly lowered his gun, the giant stood tall again and sighed heavily.
"Disappointing. I suppose you can run, then. I won't follow you." She started to turn, making her way through an alleyway and towards a door at the end of the street "Perhaps your employers will satisfy me."

Bert fell to his knees, watching as the giant slowly walked away.
"Don't you walk away from me, you bitch." Bert spat
"Hmm?"

She slowly turned around
"Didn't you hear me?" Bert snapped
She smiled "Good. Make the end memorable."

Bert stood to his feet, tightly clutching the gun in his hands and moving his finger towards the trigger. As the giant took a single step towards him, he unloaded the entire clip.
Vera lunged forwards, with the bullets bouncing off of her chest as she closed the gap between herself and Bert. As the gangster's gun clicked, she grabbed him by the throat and lifted him into the air. Bert struggled, kicking and throwing punch after punch towards the giant's face.
"I'll remember you. You fought till the end. Even if this wasn't a challenge for me, I am grateful for this."

She pulled him closer and plunged a blade into his gut.
"This will be quick." She whispered "I promise."

Dropping his body to the ground, Vera slowly turned towards the building. The suit slowly opened up and she stepped out, breathing in.
"The atmosphere on this world is...Disgusting. Perhaps it was a kindness to end your life."
Turning towards Bert, she sighed "Still alive down there? Very well." She drew a dagger from her belt "I keep my promises."

Walking towards the gangster she plunged the dagger into his chest, ending his life quickly and removing the blade. As she turned towards the suit, the door to the building burst open and four other guards ran out.
"About time." She gave them a half-smile
"Who the hell are you?"
"My name is Vilikh." She stood to her feet "Know that although your deaths bring me closer to a better hunt, that doesn't mean you should disappoint me. Make your ends memorable...Although, I do need one of you alive. Bait for bigger prey. I suppose that honour goes to which one of you puts up the better fight. Which one of you is willing to fight for his life."

She drew another dagger from her belt, tossing it towards one of the guards as he returned fire. It pierced through his skull and his lifeless body fell to the ground like a rag doll. While bullets flew through the alleyway, Vera lunged at the guards with a dagger in each hand. The second guard did not last long either, with Vera slitting his throat while he aimed for his head. He clutched his wound, falling to his knees as he started to choke.

The third guard lunged at Vera himself, trying to hit her in the face with the butt of his rifle. The blow almost shattered the weapon, doing little more than making the huntress smile. Even as the guard drew a sidearm and held it to Vera's face, she still had a half-smile plastered onto her face.
"Alright. You'll do. But where's your friend?"
She looked to her right, seeing that the remaining guard was running down the alleyway.
"Cowardice has no place in his universe." Vera muttered

She pulled the pistol from the guard's hands and quickly took aim, hitting the fleeing man in the back and dropping him.
"If my aim was true, I just hit a part of his spine. If he lives, and that is a rather large if he will be crippled for the rest of his life."
She turned to the remaining guard "Name?"
"What?"
"Your name."
"David. My name's David."
"David, you're the bait. But don't worry, there's a good chance that you'll survive. It's certainty higher than your friend over there. It all depends on how far my prey is willing to go."

She examined the sidearm, looked deep into David's eyes and struck him across the side of the head.

Sophia pulled out the card that the SHIELD agent gave her after the Thunderbolts defeated the rampaging ruffian from her pocket. She thought back to what she said to herself in the library, that SHIELD wouldn't trust a Zemo with their archives, maybe she was wrong. She got up from her bed and grabbed her phone and texted to her team's group chat.

Jill Davenport/Spitfire: New York
4512328aa410fd495f3da8fe938bc2f4--female-character-inspiration-writing-inspiration.jpg
Getting back to the apartment complex had been a great relief for Jill. The first thing she did was ask her landlady about security cameras, worried in case looters had made their way into the building during the quake.
In truth, it was her prying the doors of the elevator open. Part of her cursed herself for being so reckless, but she also told herself that if there was a person inside she could have been their only lifeline.
A risk worth taking.

With luck, the cameras on Jill's floor hadn't worked in years. In fact, Mrs Browse kept them there for show.
The building, and some parts of the city around it were back up and running by the time Jill had returned home. All that awaited her was a rather annoyed landlady.

Still clutching the dog under her arm, Mrs Browse had greeted Jill with a scowl. As usual, Jill had to explain herself and took the dog back to her apartment. She didn't like lying about either of her identities. To the people of Mrs Browse's complex, she was Jill. A young woman with a big heart trying to make it in the big city and to the world she was Spitfire, one of many young heroes who did their part to help as many people as they could.
To SHIELD, SWORD and people like Naomi she was both, just a young woman who had gained her abilities from an accident, had gone into hiding for a few years and then emerged, having gained some control.

They were simple stories but she had fabricated to near-perfection. How much longer would it take? The Earthquake boy was one supervillain of what, hundreds, thousands she'd have to defeat. She bit her lip, clenching her fists as she carried the dog upstairs

She couldn't remember the last time she'd taken her true form. It had to have been a year at least. Even in the isolation of her apartment it was too big a risk. What if SHIELD suspected her? Surely they monitored most, if not all of their agents. They'd been infiltrated by HYDRA, supervillians and of course, the Skrull before.
Jill took a deep breath, composing herself and let out a giggle as the dog licked her face.
"Thanks, I needed that."

She'd submitted her report to SHIELD and carried on with playing a videogame before taking the dog for a walk right as the sun started to set. The dog fell asleep shortly after the walk, with Jill letting him fall asleep on her bed. She still hadn't though of a name for him yet, and Mrs Browse had simply called him nuisance. It didn't really suit him.

Packing her costume into a school rucksack, Jill climbed down the nearby fire escape and flew into the night. She went further than New York, flying far out of the city and touching down in Iceland. After checking around every single corner, Jill rested on a mountain, took a deep breath and shut her eyes.
Her skin turned green, her ears became pointed and within seconds she sat in her true form.

Opening her eyes, R'Gildine slowly removed one of her gloves and smiled. On a mountaintop in Iceland, there was no SHIELD or SWORD, no heroes to hide from and no villains or criminals to fight. The tip of the mountain was where the rest of the world was invisible and no need for a disguise. It was the only place she could think.
And yet, she didn't move from the spot, simply putting her hands behind her head and watching the night sky with a smile on her face.

Two hours of silence, and then it was back to the fold. Jill sighed heavily as she covered her green skin, stretched and took off back towards New York. The criminals and the supervillains were a bit more active then, and the city needed her Spitfire. Night covered the city and Jill stood on a rooftop, overlooking the city in her costume.
Her eyes were open and she was patched into nearby police radios. If something was about to go down, she would know about it.

The mischievous misfit made a sharp turn into an ally, where she used her trick umbrella to leave a trail of soap. "This will give that heroic heckler the slip!" she said as the soap from her umbrella ran out she paused for a moment and giggled to herself as she was enjoying the chase more than anything else, 'Mother was right! This is fun!'

"How do you send a message on this planet?"
"Wh-what?"
"You can understand me, right? Or did I waste my time with you?" She held up a knife, placing it gently against one of David's cheeks "How would I get a message to the general population?"
"Erm...The internet, I guess."

Vera stepped away, lowering the knife.
David was tied to a chair, his arms bound with belts and rope while Vera paced around the now blood-covered warehouse.
"The Kree have something similar on our world. Very well. Here's what we're going to do."
She turned towards David "We're going to put a video on this internet of yours."
"I'm still the bait, aren't I? You want me to beg for my life on-camera."

Vera slowly nodded and started to walk back towards David "You're smarter than you look, David. Now, it will be quite painful for you."
As their faces met, she reached into one of David's pockets and pulled out his phone "Can this primitive contraption..."
"You can film with it, yeah."

With her face still inches away from his, she reached into another pocket and removed a wallet.
"Hey, c'mon. You're an alien, right? What use could you have for Earth money!" He complained
"I don't need your money. As you saw tonight I can acquire what I need without it." With her left hand, she pointed to a few of the dead bodies scattered around the warehouse. "I'm trying to play to my prey's weaknesses. They care about human lives. I'm looking for..."
She paused, her eyes widening

"Family photos, I presume?"
David slowly nodded, sweat rolling down his face
"Of course. You're in this line of work for them."

She threw the wallet to the side "I do hope you see them again. It all depends on whether or not my prey responds to this."
****
Within minutes, a video was uploaded to the internet. It opened with David, his face bloodied.
"Hello." He cried "My name is David Hunters and I...Um, I-I-I've been taken hostage. I'm in New York. If there is anybody out there, please...She's killed my..." He paused, taking a deep breath to compose himself

The view turned, with Vilikh holding the phone herself.
"Humanity. There is a Skrull still walking among you. I speak to it. This man has a family. A wife, two daughters and they keep a pet. If you do truly care about these humans, you will find us."

The camera panned around the warehouse, showing the bodies of the dead guards and a few others who were tied up.
"If you find me quickly, they might still survive their injuries. And now I speak to humanity. If I see anybody aside from the Skrull approach me, I will kill the bait."

The steam went viral within fifteen minutes, with #SaveDavidHunters, #DavidHunters and #Skrull trending on Twitter.

Jill was flying above the streets of Manhattan when she got an alert. She stopped on top of an apartment building, opened her communications and her jaw dropped.
"No, no no no..." She placed her hands on the side of her head "Oh shit.

She took several deep breaths to compose herself and threw up. This was the nightmare scenario. She watched the stream from the beginning again, wanting it all to be some kind of sick joke but...The injuries on David's face seemed too real.

She watched the stream a third time, and then it hit her. The alien was using an Earth-based phone to record it. She took another breath and tapped into her communications again. Naomi was currently offline, but there was another friend she could call.
"Janice, it's Spitfire. I take it you've seen the stream?"
"You kidding? We're already on it. Tracing the IP address as we..."
"No! That...Thing said if it saw anyone get close it would kill the hostages. Let me go in first. Just give me the location."
"You know I can't do that. Just handing out information like that to sup..."

She gritted her teeth "Fine! I'll do it myself!"
Cutting off communications, Jill kicked the ground, leaving a dent as she cursed under her breath. She'd have to hack the IP address herself.
Taking another deep breath she told herself that she would be one of many trying to trace the stream, and the creature in the video wouldn't be able to pin her down.
Did it know who she was? It seemed to know at least that the Skrull on Earth was a hero. How many others knew her secret? SHIELD and SWORD would have done something by now, unless they were just testing her.
The creature hadn't covered it's tracks very well, and it didn't take Jill long to find the location. She knew she wouldn't be the only one.

"I can't let you go through. Seeing a super could spook that...Thing."
"So what's the plan?"
"Right now, we're waiting for word back from SHIELD."

Sighing, she reached into part of her uniform and produced her SHIELD badge "We can coordinate our efforts. If I go in obscuring my face that thing might take me for the Skrull. I can lead it away, giving you guys time."
She looked around the barricade "Where's Janice?"
"On-call to the feds. Apparently some of the folks in that warehouse are wanted men. It's all over Twitter."
"That doesn't mean we should let them die."
"I never said that, Spitfire." He shook his head

She let out another sigh and walked past the barricade, the beat cop tailing her
"Hey! You can't just..."
"Janice, we need to talk."

Janice was a Latino woman with dark hair she kept in a loose ponytail. She had well-defined stomach muscles and wore a biker's jacket.
"I told you not to let her through."
"She's a super." The beat cop glared at her
"You know I can do this."
"That thing wants a Skrull. If you just walk on up it'll kill everyone. So unless you and your buddies at SHIELD have one stashed in your back pocket, get the hell out of here."

Jill clenched her fists. She could let the hostages die, or expose herself to the world. She would spend the rest of her life locked in a SHIELD prison, maybe the Raft. She could count he amount of people she'd put away there and there was a good chance one of them would kill her. Another scenario ran through her head: dissection.
If a Skrull had remained on Earth since the invasion, the government would want to know just how she worked. They'd pull her apart.
There was always a third option.

"I don't..." She shook her head "But SHIELD trained me how to deal with them. I know a few words in their language."
Janice glared at Jill with a raised eyebrow
"I hide my face, I say a word or two and that thing will follow me out. Simple." She shrugged "That, and I can be pretty annoying." She added with a smile
"It's too great a risk. We wait for SHIELD." Janice shook her head
"I am SHIELD." She spat "And we're doing this."

Janice stepped towards Jill, standing up straight and looking down into the girl's eyes.
"If this goes wrong..."
"I got this. Just be ready to extract those hostages the second that thing leaves."

"Boss!" A yell came from outside. Jill and Janice both charged outside and looked up, seeing that the creature now stood atop the warehouse. In one hand, it clutched David by the throat and held the man in the air
"Skrull!" It yelled "Reveal yourself or this human dies! You should have traced me by now!"
"Crap." Jill muttered "We can't wait anymore."

Clenching her fists, Jill flew behind the warehouse and jumped up onto the roof. Vera slowly turned around, slightly tilting her head at the sight of the young hero.
"Are you the Skrull?" She asked "Peel back the flesh and reveal yourself."
"Why are you doing this?"
"I asked my question first. Now are you the Skrull or not?"

She tightened her grip around David's throat, lifting him higher into the air.
"Put him down first."

Vera tilted her head to the side and loosened her grip on David, dropping him off the side of the building. Jill gasped and jumped off after him, catching him mid-air and gently touching down on the ground.
"Are you okay?"
"You can't fight that thing, it's a monster!"

Jill pushed David aside as Vera jumped down in front of them.
"Bring me the Skrull!"

Beep
Beep
Beep

Zogun is sleeping in the couch, with the television on. After a few drinks and a couple of Jackie Chan movies, the middle age agent is down for the count.

The beep on his pager grew louder until he finally woke up. Barely.

He blinked several times as he barely form the words on his beeper.

"Skrull?" he mumbled and took another swipe of the bourbon. He tried to stood, only to fall flat to the ground.

"I need a cold shower, an extra large mug of black hot coffee and aspirins."

Vera Ken/Vilikh and Jill Davenport/Spitfire: New York docks
A child stood in front of Vera, another obstacle between her and the Skrull on perhaps...
She smiled under her helmet. They were a race of shapeshifting monsters, and she could easily be faking her age. For all she knew, her prey could be disguised as anything from a withered old man to a human infant. All she knew is that they had hidden long enough among the humans that they had grown to act as one of them.
The girl had responded to the message, she could be the Skrull or she could just be more bait. There was only one way to prove it.
-
David started to hobble towards the police barricade before Jill could finish her sentence. At least he was out of harm's way, and she hoped to keep it that way. Revealing her true form to the monster would be the end of her world, but if she could lure it away from the crowd there was a chance. It used innocent lives to get her to the docks, and the only thing stopping it from using them again was a 5ft 8 girl from Brooklyn.

"There's no Skrull here!" She outstretched her arms "You're trespassing on this planet and under..."
"Liar!" The monster snapped
"You didn't let me finish." Jill sighed

Keep it talking. SHIELD, SWORD or some other kind of hero would be on their way.
"We kicked the Skrull off our world a long time ago. If there was one here, we'd..."
-
Either the girl was lying, or she was unbearably naive. With all of their equipment and heroes, humanity had failed to notice a Skrull masquerading as one of their own just as they'd been blind to the last invasion. Whether or not humanity fell to the next one was not something Vera cared about, but she knew that Earth wouldn't go down without a fight. They had stood against Thanos and hadn't been driven to extinction.
-
A blade deployed from one of her arms and she started to pace around the girl. Both waited for the other one to make the first move. It was Jill, but she didn't fly directly at Vera or launch a blast of energy from her hands. Instead, she flew upwards. As Vera rolled her eyes under her helmet, she looked to the police barricade and started to march towards it.

Hearing the whooshing of air, she quickly looked to her left as Jill flew towards her. Vera smiled even as Jill hit her with both fists, sending the warsuit flying off of the docks and into the cold waters of the harbour.
Jill looked over to the barricade "Get the hostages! I've got this jolly gre..."
Seeing the movement in the water below, she quickly dodged out of the way just as a blade passed by her face. It struck the side of a warehouse and continued it's path.

This was followed by a second blade, missing Jill's torso as she flew upwards. Hovering just above the ground she clenched her fists as Vera emerged.
"Screw it. Janice, how are we..." She placed a finger in her ear
"We're moving in now."
"So, in minutes..."

Vera lunged towards Jill, her claws missing her face as she flew to the left. The warsuit lunged forwards while Jill threw a left hook. Just as the punch was about to make contact with Vera's face, she coated her fist in fire and struck. While her head tilted to the side, Vera quickly followed the attack up with a punch to Jill's chest. She was sent flying back, towards one of the walls of the warehouse but managed to stop herself mere inches before hitting against the wall.

The hostages were still inside, and so long as the monster she was facing remained far enough away they had a chance.
"Alright, ugly. Why do you want the Skrull?"
"They make for good prey. As do you. If the Skrull is still watching, I'll just have to tear you apart until I'm clearer."

Jill's eyes widened "So this is all a game to you?!"
"Yes."
She clenched her fists, gritting her teeth as she flew towards the warsuit with both of her hands coated. The blow struck Vera's chest, pushing her back slightly as Jill tried to knock her into the water again.
"Your anger is delicious. I didn't expect a child to put up this much of a fight, but you'll be satisfying prey. I promise to grant you a quick death."

Stretching out both of her arms, Vera deployed two more blades and sliced at Jill. Thankfully, the girl was fast enough to dodge both attacks. The third took her by surprise, as the warsuit fired blasts from it's hands and eyes. Shielding her face from the beams, Jill took a slice to the gut but just about managed to pull away in time.

She looked at the small tear in her costume and then back at Vera.
"That was going to be quick. I do keep my promises."
"Well, I promise that I'm going to kick your ass off this planet!" Using both hands she unleashed a ray of fire towards the suit, pushing it back even further. Vera unleashed three more blades in response, but Jill was too quick.

"Yeah, I'm not going to give you the chance to shishkebab me." She grinned
Her smile faded as the suit started to walk forwards.
"This has endured blasts from Shi'ar crafts and Skrull supersoldiers. A mere child couldn't hope to break it."
"I'm not trying to break your toys, I'm just trying to annoy you. Is it working?"

Vera lunged forwards, slicing at Jill multiple times only for each swing to be dodged. While Jill aimed a kick for Vera's head, she grabbed the leg and pulled Jill in closer. Spitfire threw a punch only for Vera to catch it in her left hand and Jill held back a cry in pain as she proceeded to crush it. While Jill aimed another blow for the head of the warsuit, this time using a hand converted into a blade she had coated in electrical energy Vera grabbed it, twisting the arm.

Converting her free leg into a hammer-like shape, Jill shouted as she moved it towards the warsuit, striking it in the chest and using her free arm to strike it again. Throwing a concerted blast of fire directly for the suit's head, she managed to push Vera away and her grip loosened. Jill threw in all of her strength and loosened the grip, pushing herself back and hitting Vera with a blast of electrical energy from both hands.

It was just about enough to throw the suit over the side of the dock and into the water.
"Spitfire?"
"Janice. Please tell me you..." She panted
"Yeah, we got them."
"Okay. Now get everyone the hell out of here. That thing is going to kill everyone it comes across until it finds the Skrull...Oh shi..."

Jill ducked as Vera tried to grab her head, flying further along the docks. She took one look back at the warsuit to see that it had stopped in it's tracks and was simply staring at her, appearing to be deploying another blade. Considering the speed she was flying at, Jill could only smirk. The blade would miss for sure.
Her smile quickly faded, her eyes widening as she watched the warsuit turn towards the police barricade...And fire.

Flying at her top speed, Spitfire caught the blade as it was mere meters away from David's face. She gave him a playful wink and spun around, only to feel something pierce her in the gut.
Looking down, Jill gasped as she glared at the blade.
"Oh, that's..." She shook her head

Another blade pierced through her.
"This will be quick." Vera started to walk towards her
"Yeah, yeah. You keep your promises, I know."

If she kept using her powers at this rate, there was a chance she'd lose her disguise. Maintaining her current form was already taking it's toll, and if she was to keep fighting, throwing what she had left at the warsuit she'd reveal herself long before she bled out.
She hadn't even thought about dying until now, everything had been about saving people and keeping her secret.

Letting out a grunt in pain, Spitfire pushed herself away from the barricade and walked towards Vera. One hand was still clutched around the blade, while the other shaped into a hammer. She struck the warsuit in the side and Vera stopped.
"You're not gonna hurt them..."
She grabbed Jill's arm, taking care not to break it
"You fought well. Now rest."

Using her other arm she deployed a blade, holding it above Jill's head
"Do you have any last requests?"
"I-I know where she is."
"What?"
"The Skrull. I know where she's hiding."

Vera lowered her arm
"Let these people live and I'll take you to her. I just need to..." She swayed, almost falling into Vera's arms
"Rest first, warrior. We will heal your wounds and then...You will take me to the Skrull."
"And they'll..."
"I promise."

She lifted Jill, looking back at the crowd before turning to walk away. A single shot ran out and Vera sharply turned
"You promised..."
Vera nodded in response and turned back, starting to charge away from the docks.
