Many Voices, One Song - Words have power.

This RP is inspired by the Chanters of Tremaris series, which I read and loved in sixth grade.

BACKGROUND:

It is said that the gods were born singing.

All of the ancient texts are illuminated manuscripts, each depicting the Seven in a heavenly chorus. The song floats between them, out of them, winding around their delicate fingers and through their...

SETTING: Early morning, April the fourth. Use this first post to introduce your character and their morning routine.

It is the beginning of an unusually warm and sunny day in the Blue Temple of Thorandis.

Before the sun rose in the east to wake the priestesses and novices of Morra from their peaceful slumber, a high, sweet melody drifted through the dark corridors of the Blue Temple. Soft footsteps echoed off of the tall, shimmering walls, mixing with the sound of a young woman's singing; it was a tentative song, more of a lullaby than anything, though to Sitara Swift the music sounded sly and sneaky. She crept through the halls on light feet, and would not even have dared to sing had the music not soothed her restless nerves. Before long, the novice priestess had successfully maneuvered through the twisting corridors, and now took an eager step outside of the Temple.

One excited step led to another until Sitara was running through the surrounding forest, her slippered feet padding quietly against the cold, hard ground. Even as she darted past trees and boulders and streams, the novice continued to sing her morning song- partially to work on her breath control, and partially because she felt most alive while singing. The song carried no chantment, however; Sitara had no use for ice-call at the moment. She ran deeper and deeper into the forest, knowing every nook and cranny by heart, the music drifting behind her and bringing the silent forest to life.

Eventually Sitara could not run any further, though it made no difference. She had reached her destination: a tall sentinel tree with many wide, knarled branches. Removing her yellow novice robes and hanging them on a low branch, the teen began to climb. At first she went quickly, but as she neared the top the boughs became more difficult to scale, old and fragile as they were. Regardless, Sitara found it in herself to reach the top of the tree, where she sat on a particularly stable branch and set her gaze upon the whole of Thorandis.

Sitara had chosen her tree well; from its top, she could see past the valleys and mountains of Thorandis to the great Ice Wall shimmering in the distance. More importantly, from her vantage point Sitara could even see a little bit of the land beyond the Ice Wall: Norda, the nation of forests. The trees gleamed emerald in the light of the rising sun, and from her perch Sitara felt as if she were flying. She wished she were flying- past the valleys and mountains, over the Wall, and into the world beyond.

Inspired by the beautiful view, the novice began to sing a song of chantment. The words were old but silly, the priestesses' version of a nursery rhyme, and made Sitara's fingertips tingle with magic. Very slowly, crystals of ice began to drift down from her hands and rest on the tree bark, forming a circle of snowflakes around the branch where she sat. The teen let the music sing itself, and diverted her thoughts elsewhere.

The sun was rising and the light of the sun shone trough the trees into the forest. As Hayden opened his eyes he could hear the birds chirping already. He was laying on a soft patch of moss. He could see the branches from the trees far above him. A light bundle shone right in his face. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. I felt like it was going to be a warm and sunny day. He stood up. His body felt stiff, it could be he slept in a weird position. The little town in Norda was too far away to return to that night. Animals wouldn't hurt him so it wasn't a concern to sleep in the forest. He stretched his tired muscles.

'' Ophellia?''

His voice was croaked. He had to warm it up properly to sing to the birds that came back from their journey out of the warmer countries. The winters in Norda was too cold for some birds. Hayden thought about the stories he heard last year. It was wonderful. He learned from the stories but the birds weren't that intelligent so he wanted to know more. He would like to travel but couldn't slack his job as guard for the village.

Ophellia hooted enthusiast when she came soaring down from a tree a couple of meters away. The graceful owl landed on Hayden his shoulder. She looked around with her big round eyes. She also heard the birds from the summer return. The owl is a night animal but as teacher of the young singer she was raised by her father Agathe to be the other way around and live in the daylight whilst sleeping at night. A little bird chirped loud as she landed on the moss before Hayden and the wise owl Ophellia.

'' Remember her Ophellia? She talked to us last year too.''

Hayden knelled and reached his hand out slowly. The little bird jumped forwards hesitated for a second and than jumped on the hand. Hayden took a deep breath and began to sing a slow and restful song. The bird listened careful and then replied with a high enthusiast chirp after each couplet.

Little bird from the south returning, you may know my curiosity is burning.

I would be a honor to hear, the great stories that you may bear.

What you saw when you flew high. A little bird across the sky

Over seas, into the night. Tell me how, I wonder why.

Audrial saw the sun peeking over the horizon, but she was already at the docks with the rest of her family. Audrial helped unload the boat and carried some crates over to her parents' shop. Later, she would help run the shop with her mother, and then in the evening she would either cook dinner or help close up for the evening. That's how her life had been for the past several years. Audrial knew she had nothing to complain about, but she couldn't help but wonder if there was something more for her.

"Mother, why can I sing so good?" Audrial had asked when she was much younger.

"Don't be arrogant, Audrial. Yes, you can sing well, but it's not something worth taking pride in. Singing will not bring you success," her mother answered. "Only hard work can do that."

Audrial would never forget that conversation. Neither of her parents thought singing was important, but she knew there was something different about her singing. Maybe no one else saw it, but she always got this feeling whenever she sang. She felt powerful, untouchable, and free. Deep within her heart, Audrial always longed for that pure freedom in her life- the kind of freedom she found only through singing.

"Audrial, hurry up. I can't hold this door open forever!" her mother called out to her.

"Sorry!" Audrial quickly replied, rushing to the shop. She put the crates down and helped unpackage the items before walking back to the dock for more crates. She spotted her father and older brother unloading the heavier goods and smiled. They were all such hard workers- her whole family had always been that way. Audrial's father pointed out which crates to take to their shop and which ones to take to another neighboring vendor. Auridal quickly set out to do the task.

"Oh, and Audrial-" her father said after thanking the boat's owner. He put a calloused hand on her shoulder. His eyes crinkled and revealed deep creases as proof of his hard years of labor when he smiled at her. "I want you to come with me later tonight- it's been awhile since we went sailing together, hasn't it?" he asked. Audrial smiled brightly and nodded happily in reply. Sailing meant she would get to learn about boats and the ways of the sea, but it also meant singing.

The bird told him a story about a man who fed him breadcrumbs and seeds. Only the bird told the story in lines a human wouldn't understand. Hayden soft hummed as the bird chirped. At the end of the story the bird looked up hopeful. Hayden stopped humming. When he reached down in his pocket found a bunch of berries he was going to eat for breakfast. He took four berries and lay them down on the ground for the little bird to eat. The sunlight made the red berries shiny. The bird flew from his hand and landed graceful on the ground to eat the little berries with his small beak. Hayden smiled and stood up. Ophellia looked around the forest. The sun was shining and the air became warmer.

Suddenly a mile away birds flew away from the trees chirping alarming. Hayden looked in the direction he hear the birds chirping. He heard sounds of humans shouting something and soon after that the sound of a horse galloping. The question was where the horse would go. The voices he heard were not familiar so he didn't feel any urge to help the humans but he wondered what made the horse panic. A least if it was panic that made the horse run away. The horse was definitely going his way. He thought about a soothing melody that would calm the horse. He had to stop the horse first. He looked around. There was no other choice. ''Ophellia fly to the horse and make it stop.'' Ophellia took of in an instant. He ran with her to make the distance smaller between the horse and them. He saw the horse and slowed his pace. Ophellia soared further towards the horse. When she was close enough she spread her wings in full span and flapped them furiously. The horse panicked even more but stopped and pranced. This was his clue, Hayden stepped closer and took a deep breath and let the magic form a melody to sing a beautiful lyric to. It was from high value to stay calm and keep the melody steady. Ophellia made a beautiful diversion to avoid getting hit by a hoof from the horse. She flew up high to land upon a branch. The horse snorted and he looked at Hayden with big black eyes. Brown was the fur of the horse and black was his mane and tail. He looked chocked that someone tried to communicate. The animal was wearing riding gear. It belonged to the humans that were shouting earlier. Hayden carefully closed in on the horse with his hand outstretched. Still continuing the soothing song. It was a tamed horse so it would naturally listen to a human. It was an easy task. He was close and let the horse sniff his hand. It had calmed down. He sang about how the forest was save and how he would not harm the horse. The horse breezed. He saw a scary big animal and that's why he ran away. An by that his owner started screaming. Hayden still sang to the horse as he walked to it's side and managed to get in the saddle. It sat quite uncomfortable. He normally would ride a horse without the saddle. He paced up the song to encourage the horse to turn around and run back. He looked up and put a different melody in the song. The horse breezed because he couldn't understand why ''he had to come down from the trees''. In reality Hayden was singing for Ophellia for a moment. He did have a usual melody for it because when he sang to other animals he could not communicate freely with Ophellia. He stopped the song as Ophellia soared down on his shoulder. The horse felt uncomfortable because Ophellia made him scared earlier. The horse began to run. In no time they were by the group merchants that came across a puma. Hayden looked at the four people. It were all men, no one was wounded but they were just done eating a rabbit to look at the pieces of bone on the ground. Of course the puma smelled that. The puma wasn't unfamiliar to Hayden. He knew Kayla for a long time. Kayla the puma was a female puma that once sneaked into town. Hayden drove her off easily and communicated with here many times after that. He helped her hunt and even helped with the labor of her children. He took a deep breath and a soft song came of his lips. Not much soothing but warning and luring. The merchant people looked up at this weird appearance. A man with an owl on his shoulder, with their horse, singing to a puma. Kayla looked up and stopped hissing at the merchant people. She was indeed smelling the rabbit and was hungry. She didn't meant to attack the people. She was aware that was of the boundaries. Hayden sang lower to warn her for this stupid action. She was a fine hunter who wouldn't go for the smell of a cooked rabbit. Not even for a dead rabbit. She was able to hunt just fine and not beg for a piece of someone else. Kayla lay down her ears in her neck and hissed angrily as she turned around and walked away mocking. Her ego was a little cranked. Hayden stopped the song and came of the horse petting in on his neck. ''Well done.'' He looked up at the Merchant group.

''A singer?''

'' Yes, a singer. The village is just a few miles away so follow the road and stay on the path.''

''Can you sing to all animals?''

'' I suppose so."

'' Even to sharks?''

'' Sharks... ah.. I never met those. I met a fish. That was weird because they can't breath on land and I can't sing underwater. It was kinda awkward.''

'' So you protect the village from dangerous animals?''

'' They are not dangerous, that's just nature.''

''But you protect right?''

''Yes."

The merchants looked at each other with meaningful looks.

'' Look singer...''

'' Hayden.''

'' Look Hayden, We come from far and we came across many different dangerous animals and lost people because of that....''

One merchant spoke.

''It could be interesting for you to tag along so you could protect us and for that you can travel with us on our costs.''

Hayden didn't spoke. It was sure an interesting offer but the village needed protection.

''I've got to ask my mother.''

The merchants laughed but stopped when they saw the glance Hayden gave them.
