Under the light of the mid-morning sun, Zatanna lay down on a bench in the campus garden. A book levitated a couple of feet above her head, occasionally magically turning its pages. Not too long after settling down, she caught a glimpse of a slender, dark-haired figure that she recognized as William Kaplan and glanced over at him curiously.

"You the new magic boy?" she asked nonchalantly. "I heard you put up a bit of a fight last night."

Meeting his roommate had been... Actually kind of uneventful? Billy wasn't even sure anymore what he had expected in the first place, but surely something... More. Just more. In a positive or negative way. Of course he had seen his powers and they were pretty cool, so at least that was something, but other than that... They hadn't really talked or otherwise interacted with each other all that much.

He had a feeling that the guy was probably as socially awkward as him... And most likely wanted to be left alone as well. And that was good. Certainly better than being forced into constant conversations by an extrovert, so he would take it. For now it seemed that they should be able to coexist in relative peace. That, however, didn't automatically mean Billy was suddenly okay with sharing a room. It was still a new and strange experience.

But all of that happened the previous day - and a new one... Well. It didn't exactly bring a new perspective, but at least Billy got some rest, so that was good. It also appeared that he would have a lot of time for himself, which basically meant leaving the room. Oh, he would have preferred to stay there, but not with someone else inside... So his options were pretty limited.

He chose the garden. After all, the weather wouldn't be getting any better in the nearest future, so he probably should get some fresh air while he still could. What he didn't expect, however, was someone calling out to him once he got there. His gaze followed the sound of that voice to a girl that he was sure he didn't... Oh, wait. Actually, he did recognise her. And, to be honest, that realization surprised him more than the alternative, stopping him in his tracks and making him blink rapidly.

"Technically, I was just helping a member of the stuff. Not fighting. I don't... Get into fights," he said quickly, before he even thought it through. And it was mostly true; at least he didn't start fights... Usually, he was too slow to leave, got hit and didn't retaliate - partially because he couldn't - so that wasn't... Fighting. Per se.

At that point, his mind was still catching up with the idea that hey, he knew who this was, someone popular, someone... Levitating a book right now. He wasn't even shocked anymore, not after last night. It seemed that he was slowly getting used to everyone just displaying their abilities here. Or maybe not so slowly...

"... And I didn't think that would spread so fast," he added, the tone of his voice more careful now. He hoped he still wasn't in trouble for what happened. Hawkeye had given him permission to act, but... Who knew?

Zatanna spun herself around and sat back as the book fell to the other side of the bench, facing this boy with a smile and one eyebrow slightly raised. For some reason, she'd expected a more aggressive type from this guy, so it was kind of amusing and cute how awkward and shy he was.

"Don't worry," she replied. "It's just because you're the new guy that word is spreading around. And if you're not into fighting, well, some of us only have to deal with monsters and criminals once a month or so. My name's Zatanna, by the way, or just Z for short. Yours?"
