Hello again Ibby~

I'm writing you with a little bit of a request~

You see, I met this tall 'boney' man during a quest of mine in Ryken's Underbelly, who's looking for someone willing to pretend to have him as a familiar due to his non-human nature. He goes by Hydrangea, is pretty tall and a skeleton. Shouldn't be tough to miss. I told him you'd be the perfect match for such a ruse and he's a good sort, so no worries on that front. Seeing how I sort-off owe him a bit, I'd appreciate it if you'd consider his request.

By the way, are you still hanging out with the keeper of the sacred fluff?

Regards,

Kalina

Dear Aedrianna Belmonte,

It’s been awhile. A long while since we spoke, I had visited The Republic. If I hadn’t gotten busy or knew which town you lived in… I could’ve probably visited. In my travels I got to meet a friend of yours, a white-haired kitsune named Kota. He told me a very interesting story…

Please, Aedriana, stay safe. I am not upset about going after this ‘Skythorne Blossom’, especially since it seems to be a medicine of sorts. But the whole thing with the dire bear, I admit, concerns me. I don’t know if you joined that battle, but I can’t help but think back to the Nest. If you faced a dire bear, did you use magic? Did the magic weaken you like it did when you healed one of the rockers?

You are worrying me over here, I cannot reiterate this more. But please be careful. I understand wanting to adventure. I am literally a part of the adventurer's guild. But you can’t just dive into random dangers. It’s safer to start adventuring one small adventure at a time, with each adventure working up and while you do that you’ll become stronger at a slow and steady pace that doesn’t risk you dying.

And if you won’t stay safe for yourself, then at least for me? I’m younger than you, hearing about the dire bear probably shouldn’t have been so close to a heart attack. Anyway, with all that said, what I am saying is: don’t charge blindly into dangers you are unaware of. If I ever meet your dad, I won’t tell him… After all, I am no snitch. But charging in blindly is not a good thing: I acknowledge I’m guilty of this as well, but it doesn’t make it any less unsafe.

Now that I spent what is probably half this letter lecturing you…how have you been? Like I said, I was able to visit The Republic. The first town I visited was a place called Nan’gau. I had planned to take a break in one of the taverns, but that had been short-lived when the town was attacked by a stupidly large pig monster. It was roughly the size of four houses and had three heads. It smelled like rot. Think how the rockers smelled back at the nest, but 10x worse. And argumentatively, it was worse than the bug queen had been. Luckily, that was dealt with. I left the town shortly afterward.

I took a trip to Okiro. It’s the Republic’s capital isn’t it? Well, I accepted a job there. This job is how I meet Kota and a Giant Lizard Beastkin named Gunhild. Not much happened. It was an expedition to an island and, as far as I’m aware, there were no dangerous encounters there, and afterward we came back to Ryke, invited by Gunhild to a place called ‘Caelia Barony’. We got to meet Baroness Regula Caelia, and she was kind enough to give me this pen and paper which I am using to write to you now.

Was is a strong word—I’m writing this as we are all talking. Do you know where the term ‘Not in Kansas anymore’ comes from? A guy named Lucian said it…it sounds familiar, but I can’t place it. On another note…there is something I wanted to ask. a story I’ve wondered about since hearing it. Though I didn’t hear it here. And it goes as follows…more or less:

In another world, a girl died from an unspecified illness. And woke up in another in a new body, an artificial body that seemed more male in appearance. She took on a new identity and took on different kinds of jobs to keep her mind busy. According to the tale, her memories of her past life are vague. However, she did what she could to distract herself, and was trying to dodge figuring out who she was. Was she a girl or a boy? Did her family miss her? Stuff like that.

This made me wonder if this could happen…if she were real. How would anyone help her answer those questions?

Probably just some random thoughts. It could be nothing so on another note…

How are you?

Dear Griffin,

It warmed my heart to receive a letter from you. I am very pleased to know you're still well and thriving. And to think that you've met with Mr. Kota! He, along with Miss Almeida, Sorieiel, Noelle, Mr. Rios, and a couple of others, helped me find the Skythorn Blossom. I can use it to brew a tea that helps with the dizzy spells I get when I use my magic. It would be wonderful if I could grow the flower myself, but the blossom requires a fair amount of mana to flourish, which isn't exactly sustainable.

I met some interesting people on my travels. Unfortunately, Miss Noelle, Sorieiel, and I encountered someone terrible: Livius Nero. Apparently, he is the son of an old family friend, but they are slave owners from the East! Worse yet, he was the abusive master of Sorieiel and tried to take her back with him to the Eastern Empire. I can't imagine my family being friends with such people. I want to talk to my father about it, but that will have to wait until after our trip. I'm sure we'll be able to talk it out, and everything will become clear.

About that story you mentioned. It's not something I talk about a lot. Because people might think I'm crazy. However I'm finding more and more people as I travel, that seem to have knowledge of other worlds. I myself have vague memories of a life before I was born in the Republic. But it's like an old forgotten childhood memory. Your past doesn't define who you are. What you do with who you are, is what defines you. My friend Brandy said she came into the world as a neko beast kin. But she was a man before that. She's out traveling and getting stronger with what she has. Being who she is. So I'm sure that girl will find out in time that it doesn't matter if she's a he, or he's a she. If she looks more masculine, but she femenine. There are styles that are accommodating for masculine females. Not all women have tiny wastes and big busts. We're all just here in a body given to us by the gods. But the body isn't who we are. Goodness though, I do prattle on. Forgive me.

Sorieiel, Noelle, and I are traveling in Ryke for the fair. We came to the Caelia Barony, where I met the interesting people I mentioned earlier. They seem to be tinkerers and would be good to work with to develop a greenhouse for magical herbs. However, one of their members seems to dislike me for some reason. I wonder what I did to him. Then again, the person I invited to travel with us didn't make a good impression either. I was almost entirely embarrassed in front of Her Ladyship, Baroness Caelia, when we met her at the fair. Fortunately, I was allowed an audience to discuss my family, and things were smoothed out.

I'm finishing this letter in the carriage we rented to get home. I do hope that we'll be able to go on an adventure again soon.

Sincerely,

Aedrianna

P.S. Griffin, I'm writing this after returning home from my travels in Ryke. My father hasn't returned yet, which is strange since he should have been home before me. I'm a little worried, so I'm going to see if he got held up somewhere. Noelle and Sorieiel have agreed to help me look for him around Nan Gau. Mr. Ariko has agreed to work as hired protection, so I should be safe. Don't worry about me. I hope we can meet again soon! Be safe!

Salutations, Hydrangea

You might not remember me, but we travelled together into the Underbelly after a certain Bloody Scale (which I personally doubt the existence as of now). At the end of our incursion, I ended up 'scoring' (according to what my mentor told me, after being flustered for some reason) a date with Lykra, the Champion. As I would wish for knowledge to be sure to extract as much information as I can about this ancient ritual, it was told me that I should be aware of the 'Top 10 Dating Spots' in that place. You appeared to be rather knowledgeable about the Underbelly. Could you provide me with such an information?

Yours truly, Ally of Lykra the Champion, Technological Eccentric, member of the board of directors in the Tinkerer's Triage™, Erich Zann

Greetings,

How could I forget? Your courage is evinced by the request in your letter.

Enclosed is the requested item. Please note that the top ten places to date in the Underbelly are approximately equal in quality to most of the rest of the Underbelly and leagues below any other locale.

1. The Colosseum - my condolences, since this is probably not an option. But it is the safest, cleanest, and offers the most amenities.
2. The Black Market - This is merely the market in the Underbelly. The street food is to die from for.
3. The Rear End - the largest house of charnel pleasure in the city, with an entertainment hall featuring several forms of erotic performance. To eat there is a gamble.
4. The Slophouse - not a building at all but an ancient section of sewer located in the northeast of the wall inhabited by tiny fungus people who tend fungal lifeforms in the area. They do not speak and do not produce spores but there are bioluminescent fauna. Some say it is the first garbage heap in the history of the Underbelly. It is quiet because nobody knows what happens to those who cause trouble in the area.
5. The Root Canal - A circular path of flowing sewer in relatively good condition, famous for graffiti. Couples like to go there on boat rides. It smells strongly of sewage.
6. Chair Hill - In the west perimeter tunnels of the Underbelly there is a chamber with an enormous pile of chairs. It's relatively nice because an undisturbed grate casts natural light into the chamber. Water rushes into the grate almost constantly during the wet seasons. No amenities.
7. Beggar's Row - Many folks in greater need than usual gather here for charity. On the eastern rim of this large, wide alley, street musicians tend to gather. They often quite literally fight for attention.
8. Full Cheeks Erotic Restaurant - It is one of the few consistently safe and clean restaurants in the Underbelly. However, everything in it is variously sexualized and nudity is encouraged. Look before you sit.
9. Leering Lichen - A coffee shop mercifully exempted from the sexualized marketing arms race. Makes up for it with weapons-grade stimulants.
10. The Cave of Wonders - A venue offering entertainment but only if you imbibe unregulated substances that will alter your psyche in the extreme. I have heard positive things about the food.

Naturally, I am not omnipotent and this is the most I know about. Refer to the numbered map for directions.

Graciously,

Liu Fei, familiar to Iberis Odhir

P.S. I hope this reaches you in time. Forgive the late response as I was not on this plane of existence when your letter arrived for me.

Dear Glacier,

I am not a Knight. In technical terms, I am a man-at-arms. In simple terms, I am but another soldier. I don't need to be called anything special beyond just my own name.

I understand. I only sought to make my opinion known on that matter. Your views of the Empire are your own and I need only extend the offer.

For the second fact, I have made slight bits of progress towards the investigation. I have come across a strange source of intel. While I have yet to verify it's findings, but if it's true, there indeed is a third party. I have met another who appears to be involved in some way. A strange little girl who seemed more knowledgeable then her age implies. It was a meeting so coincidental that I thought the gods themselves may be involved.

Grand forces are a foot. Time to assemble is slow. Some still lick their wounds, recovering from their incursion. It is clear to me at all when we will assemble or if the fire within them will remain in this matter. But I would move alone against whatever force, if necessary.

For now, I will leave you until the way forward is more clear, or until our paths cross again.
