Fantasy MAGIC SCHOOL THAT'S POSSIBLY HAUNTED (CLOSED)

Diane sighed and shook her head.
''Alrighty then. Unless one of you is planning on interrupting again, let me just...'
After a few attempts to spark a light in her hands, which she tried to play off as being completely necessary, fooling no one, she formed another fireball in her hands, then bowled it directly into the hole.
''Like shooting rats in a tunnel' she said cheerfully. ''Although this part'' and with that she gestured to the tunnel, as she got down on her knees to crawl through ''is really gonna suck''

Rose groaned. Annoyed she was wearing a skirt, glad it was at least knee length. She got down to her knees and cast a glance back to Jack to see if he was calm enough for this. He seemed so. She pushed her mage light through the crawl space and continued after Diane. It was only as thick as two walls and about a foot of crawl space, rats still scurried, now afraid of the students. When they arrived on the other side she saw something she couldn't unsee. A large rune was drawn on the bare concrete floor, the same purple as the outside of the tunnel.
"What is this freaking amateur hour?!" she said indignantly. To her, it was obvious that some newbie first year had crawled down here trying to create edgy magic. Basic charms must not have been enough for them. Then she noticed the bats hanging from the ceiling. "They summon a bunch of "dark" animals?" She put finger air quotes around the word dark.

Jack followed the two through the hole, straightening up and brushing off his trousers before looking around in wonder. He glanced at Rose as she spoke, a hint of surprise in his eyes. He turned back to the room, a little unsure as to what to make of the whole thing. For once it wasn't something he actually recognised.
"What is this..?" He murmured, fingers itching to touch the glowing purple but sense winning out.

''You know how it is, give a teenage edgelord magical powers and they immediately fall to the dark side.'' Diane splayed her fingers against her forehead in mock shock. ''We should probably have an outreach pro-'' she tailed off as she saw Jack reaching towards the rune, and she followed his gaze.
''Hey maybe let's not...touch the...'

Rose watched her companions stare at the rune. She waved a hand infront of Diane's face but she didn't respond. "Diane?" Nothing. Rose resolved not to look directly at the Rune, limited knowledge of rune magic she didn't know if it was where Diane had veen looking or standing or what that had caused the trance. Worried Rose turned to Jack. "You still with us, Jack?"

Jack blinked and shook his head before looking around at Rose with a small flush on his face.
"Don't look at the purple," he warned with wide eyes "the purple is full of lyes.."
He shifted slightly to look at Diane, a small frown on his face. He tried clicking in front of her face but she didn't respond. With a small sigh he turned back to Rose. "Do you know anything about that thing?" He asked uncertainly, pointing over his shoulder as he spoke.

"No... I never took runes... maybe it's a "screw up your day curse"." Rose started shuffling around the room looking for clues. Feeling more and more silly. She even tried a restoration spell on Diane, but the spell was without her... there was technically nothing to restore. She looked at Jack. "I don't suppose you noticed the bats up there?" Hoping that they were irregular, and maybe a clue.

He bit out a laugh at her words before following her with his eyes, hoping if he focused on her he wouldn't be distracted by the runes. At her words he looked up at the bats with slight surprise, having not noticed them before. His brows furrowed and his finger came to his lips in thought.
"They are similar to rats but more...passive," he murmured. "They just tend to make their homes near magical places, which would indicate this has been here for at least a year to become settled enough magic for bats."

"Over a year..." Rose whispered. Putting bats and rats out of her mind, Rose continued searching the dusty room for further exits, or hints. There were stubs of candles, and some dust that turned out to be ash and once again Rose was thinking on the fire. She glanced at Diane still out of it. Rose was getting worried. She needed to find something quick.

Diane was having a very unpleasant time trapped in her own head. She was dimly aware of the forms of her companions, as thin borderless shapes. She followed them. Surrounding her, memories played out like she was watching a film. Letters in ancient scripts swam through her vision, and while she couldn't decipher all of them, there was one prevailing theme.
'Your fault.'

''I'm sorry,'' she mumbled.

His head whipped around to look at her, his eyes glowing slightly purple as he did. A small growl ripped from his throat and his hand went to it, a scared look went across his face.
"Please don't," he whispered, mouth dry in fear. He didn't want to do that again. Not again. But his body said different, growing warmer by the second

Rose's hands scattered through the ash, she found a scrap of paper not burnt all the way to dust. She smoothed it out. It was gibberish. Greek? And the only person who could read it was out of it. "What was that?" Rose asked Jack, who seemed to be freaking out.

''I didn't mean for any of this. It's not my fault. It's NOT MY FAULT'' Diane screamed almost incoherently, slamming her hands over her ears and ducking down to the ground, curling in on herself like a child.

Jack blanched slightly, his eyes on Diane. He didn't know what had just happened, his heart racing as he stared at her.
Suddenly he moved forwards, placing a hand gently but firmly on her shoulder.
"Diane? What's wrong?" He asked, shaking off his own feelings as he tried to help the girl in front of him.

At Diane's screams Rose started and clasped the scrap to her chest. What had Diane done? The rune almost seemed to glow with a kind of life. The bats had begun to shuffle about disrupted by Diane's outburst. This doesn't feel like first-year magic anymore... Rose started to shiver. Jack was by Diane's side. Rose took tentative steps forward. She crouched down. What memory is she reliving? Rose was still clutching her bit of unburnt spell. Crazily for a second, she thought they could disarm the rune by burning the paper entirely. Instead, she offered it to Diane, unsure if the girl would even look up.
"Diane?" she questioned quietly. This trip had been a rollercoaster of confidence to cowardice for Rose.
