Magi - Birth of legends

Artemis turned his head, raising an eyebrow "oh hey, nice to meet you, the name's Artemis, Artemis Couthland" he held out his hand, by habit, Artemis had his back straightened, his face straight forward and maintaining eye contact while he shook Virgil's hand firmly "It's good to see that we will be living with our year levels, I'd hate to end up having a room between 2 senior or something among those lines" he put his hands behind his back, joining them, He spoke as if he was speaking to a foreign dignitary, of course that is what he was used to, meeting another person his own age, a commoner of his own age in fact, was a big event for him.

"Will Mommy be okay?" She was standing in a hospital corridor. It's white colored walls and gleaming floors reflected nothing but the bustling nurses that shouted orders here and there; drowning out the soft sniffling she produced and the low, dull, beeping from the machine that seemed louder then anything else she could hear. Eyes swollen and shivering she stood frozen outside the last room in the hall, her eyes fixed on the figure laying motionless in the bed just beyond the clear window. How had this happened? Her mother looking so helpless as she lay there, stiff from the bandages that covered almost every inch of her body. How had this happened... how had... it... She knew how. She had seen if after all. Her eyes widened as the memory flashed back, forcing her out of reality and into a dream. It wasn't a dream though, not really. She wasn't sure what it was but the scene had unfolded before her eyes nevertheless.

She was in her home, the soft murmur of a television could be heard underneath the sound of clinging dishes. There was her mother, her flowing blonde hair braided neatly and tucked over her shoulder as she scrubbed an unusually tough food particle on a plate. Looking up slightly to watch a part of the show she liked, an amused laugh escaping from her lips before she turned back to the plate, unsuspecting of the events about to unfold. Then... a noise, an angry and harsh one that she didn't want to hear. Her mother turned to look over at her husband, his chest heaving as he glared at her from the doorway. Slowly he raised his hand from his pocket, revealing the sharp blade of the knife he had concealed. Then... NO! No! She couldn't see it again. She couldn't! Tears bubbled to her eyes as she grasped at her ears, trying desperately to stop the noises. The yelling of the nurses, the screams of her mother, and that dull beeping that steadily drummed in the background. The noises that played over and over in her head. Then there was a hand on her shoulder causing her to flinch, fear gripping hold of her, before looking up.

"Abby?" The voice was gentle, caring. Just like the expression that painted her aunt's face, "Abby, don't worry. You're mommy will be alright." She gave a soft smile, the same one her mom used to give her when she was scared at night. Suddenly she didn't feel afraid any more. She allowed the woman to take her hand, leading Abby away from her mother's hospital room and out the doors...

Abby blinked away the memories to find herself in a student filled hall. Before her, stretched out in an amazing display that went against every law of physics she had been taught in school, was a large dining hall packed full of people of all ages. Shifting awkwardly in her spot packed between two older boys, she looked up. Finally realizing that she had been staring blankly at the wooden table for most of the opening ceremonies, completely missing everything that was said by the Headmaster ,whom was now stepping down from the stage. Abby looked around nervously, wondering if she should have paid closer attention as a woman replaced the Headmaster and looked out over them for a second.

"Please head to the dorm building! Your rooms have already been assigned and your luggage has already been transported there... and welcome to Elissium Academy!" She announced, seemingly breaking the spell that bound the students to their seat as just about everyone rose at once. She forced away a squeak as the people on either side of her followed suit and shoved her a bit, shoving her forward awkwardly and cramming her against the table. Tears sprung to her eyes as she jarred her leg on a corner of something underneath the table in the process. It looked pretty dangerous with all the people flocking toward the doors at once, some having more success at exiting the hall then others did. She decided to wait a bit, letting the main pack disappear while she checked her knee. As she suspected, the skin looked a bit raw from were something had scrapped off a chunk of her skin. How could this have happened on her first day? She just wanted to go home and eat dinner with her mom...

"Will mommy be okay?" But her mom wasn't there. She... she wasn't there! Abby forced back the memories and shot up from her seat. No. She couldn't concentrate on that right now. Right now you need to find your dorm room. Find your dorm room and unpack your things. Letting out a soft, determined, grunt she followed the straggling students out of the hall and headed for the girls' dorm.

Virgil was hesitant on taking this..Artemis' hand, noticing that he seemed more poise. His posture was a dead giveaway to someone with money and power. Living on the Upper-side of New York, he knew a thing or two about these people. Though, he was going to give Artemis a chance. Giving a bad first-impression to one of his classmates was a one way trip to ridicule. So he took the outstretched hand of Artemis, returning his firm grip with his own. And hopefully the fact that they were new students of the same school would put them on the same level ground.

“Hello, Artemis. I'm Virgil Myendraili.” His voice and face remained impassive. He motioned to his hand to eagle sitting on his left shoulder. Staring straight at Artemis, the eagle gave a slight chirp, not opening his beak.

“And this ball of feathers is Dante.” He added.

"Considering...I'm glad for that too.." Virgil nodded, folding his arms over his chest, one hand holding his notebook. "I imagine...the seniors have...freshmen 'rituals' they like to do on new people..."

So many people... Abby thought trying unsuccessfully to squeeze through a rather large group of people that took up the majority of the hallway. She had tried several times to get their attention already but it was clear that she simply wasn't loud enough. Standing back with a tired and helpless sigh, she looked about her. She hadn't even made it to the girls' dorm yet seeing as she had gotten lost and no one seemed to want to help her find her way. Her hand traveled up to the blue stone she wore around her neck as she contemplated what to do. At the moment she was half way between the first year boys and girls dorm. She had made a rather long detour through the upper levels of the school because of accidently following a third year girl whom she mistook for a first year. It seemed this point served at a meeting place for the girls and boys of her year because the crowd of loud and excited children were a mixture of both genders. Clearly the only was for Abby to get to her dorm was to either push her way through this jungle of bodies or to find another route, neither seemed like a very appealing choice. Still, at the rate she was going she'd never get to her dorm room and with this heat she really needed to lay down.

"E-excuse me.." She couldn't even hear her own voice over the noise but she tried again, "Excuse me... I need to ge-" Stepping back without looking a boy knocked her sideways into a wall then looked over at her as if she had done something wrong. She sighed, finally willing to give up as she sank to the floor and buried her face in her hands. So many people... she thought unhappily as the noises started to fill her ears. So many of them... So loud... Then she heard it. That dull beep echoing in the back of her ears. Eyes flashing opened she stood. No, if she gave up now it'd be a waste. A waste of time and a waste of the school's money. She was here on a scholarship, to give up now was impossible. Taking a deep breath Abby pushed forward into the crowd, weaving her way through with some difficulty until she practically popped out of the other side. Glancing back over her shoulder she let out a shaky laugh.

"See... No problem." She stated, "No problem at all."

Artemis smiled a bit when told Virgil's full name "Myendraili eh?, a good name, sounds like it is of noble bearing" when he was introduced to Dante, Artemis nodded to the bird "Hello there boy" he looked back to virgil "that's a good name, when i look at the bird, it does feel like a "dante" you know, when you see someone or something and you can imagine their name just by how they look?... Dante's a good strong name" he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose "I'm sorry, I'm so used to dealing with diplomats and nobility, talking to a regular person is... well I'm not used to it, whenever I'm talking to someone I automatically go "Formal" it's a habit I've had since I was little"

He cleared his throat "So, what kind of magic do you specialize in Virgil? I assume Dante here is your Familiar, yes?"

“My name?” Virgil asked, confused, the tips of his ears burning. His natural modesty was kicking in, he looked down rather sheepishly. “Ah, it's...nothing, just a name.”

With Artemis rambling on about his more poise and proper speech, Virgil looked up and shrugged. “Hey, no harm, no fowl.”

'Hey, get him talking about me again. I'm liking this kid. Saying my name is strong.' Dante said to his master.

'Shut up, Dante. Last thing you need is a bigger head...'

“It's more of a subtle thing between him and I.” He said, motioning to his eagle. “His name is based off a poem my father use to read to me every night before bed.”

Virgil shrugged at Artemis. “I'm not sure about him being my familiar. I met him when I was younger, before I started magic...so I don't know...my guess is yes. He can talk to me, and vise versa.” He mused, letting his arms fall to his side. He pulled out his pen, writing down Artemis Couthland – In his notebook. He left the rest blank, as to keep information in case he forgot something specific about anyone he met.

“Uh...” He paused, not sure how to put his kind of specialty in a category of magic. “I guess...it has to do with Illusions..but they're not. I don't know how to describe it...but it's like creating your own weapons in your hands. 'Corporeal Weapons', if there is such a category...”

Anxious to get the conversation off of him, Virgil turned it around to Artemis.

“What's your specialty?” He asked, ready to write down notes about Artemis. "Other than getting me to talk?" He smirked.

It was a box, a plain one that had been sealed until just a moment ago when Abby had unknowingly opened it. She had thought it was hers, seeing as it was in her room, but it hadn't been. Why would she need a box of bird food? She shifted a little where she sat, her hands placed on her knees as she stared at the box in contemplation. What was she supposed to do? They had mix up some of the thing in her room, making her wonder if perhaps this person had anything of hers. Her eyes drifted up, wandering around the elegant looking bedroom before stopping on the wardrobe. Lifting herself from her chair, she headed over to stand in front of the tall black oak structure with a hesitant curiosity. The room was simple and clean but for some reason Abby liked it that way. From the way it looked outside she had assumed she'd be sleeping in a broom closest, the doors were crammed so closely together. She shouldn't have been deceived, not after seeming the dining hall. The room was actually much bigger then the one she had at home, it looked nearly as big as her living room. Why she had all this space was unknown, she was only one person and she honestly didn't have much stuff. The walls were a gentle blue decorated with twirls of purple paint starting from the door and passing by the bathroom before stopping just above her window.

When she had first entered the room it was the first thing that caught her attention; it overlooked a large courtyard type garden. Directly across from her was a building, from the wild movement on the other side she guessed that it was probably dorms; boys dorms. Still, the sight was pretty enough as the light gleamed down on the green grass and sandstone-like castle structure. She had then turned back to her room, noting the bed and desk pushed off to the right or the door. She also had a couch, something that she hadn't expected to get. It sat toward the center of the room with a plain-looking short table. Other then those few things the room was empty, except for the large wardrobe and the pile of her things. At this time she had spotted the box, a simple white box with a single note stuck to the bottom that she didn't see until later.

"Bird food." She grumbled finally getting the courage to open the wardrobe, "Who on earth needs bird food?" To her dismay the wardrobe was empty since she hadn't filled it with clothes yet. Abby shook her head. What were you expecting? She asked herself as she grabbed at her bags, A surprise!? A monster maybe? Honestly, you're falling apart Abby. You are falling apart. Hanging up a few things and shoving her socks into a random draw she sighed, her eyes flickering back toward the box. She should return it to it's owner. If this person really had a bird, it would no doubt be getting hungry by now. It would be kind of her to return it as soon as possible, plus... she wanted to leave that empty room. Tucking her hair behind her ear, she secured the lid and tilted it just enough so that she could read the bottom of it.

"Virgil Myendraili," She murmured as she let it fall back onto the ground, "Boy's name..." She suddenly didn't want to got, not if it meant going all the way to the boys dorms. That was when she realized something. Shooting to her feet she looked around and began digging desperately through her things.

"No! No... it's not here." She cried, her heart sinking, "My hair band... Auntie Lucy is going to kill me!" Flopping backwards she let out a little hiccup of a sob. So it was true, they had messed up their stuff. She had no choice then, she had to get it back as soon as possible or that might happen again. She shook her head and shivered. No way was she going to let that happen again. Grumbling she got to her feet and picked up the box. She was lucky it was a small one or she'd have been in trouble. She then started out for the boys dorm, dread washing over her as she got there. How was she suppose to find him with all this? The boys ran here and there, introducing themselves and causing problems as they talked noisily.

"Umm... a-are you, Virgil?" She questioned two boys who stood off to the side, one had a large bird on his shoulder. It seemed like she had found him, and sooner then she expected. Her eyes flicker from him to his bird then to his companion before finding the ground, her face blushing horribly.

"I t-think they mixed up our stuff and I think you has something important to me. I have... err... I have your bird food." She sputtered unhappily.

A soft voice reached Virgil's ears, catching him off guard. Nearly jumping out of his skin, he turned to the source with slightly wide eyes. He almost dropped his notebook in his hands, fumbling for the gray book and pen in his hands.

With an audible 'ah' he steadied himself, facing the girl with a sheepish, nervous smirk. “Uh..yes..I am.” He muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. “Wait...bird food?”

Virgil walked up to the helpful girl, both him and Dante looking down at the small box. They looked back at each other, surprised they didn't get such a container to their own room.

'For me, you dolt.' Dante muttered angrily, giving him a slight peck in his hair.

“Oh!” Virgil exclaimed, looking down at the small container of bird seed. “I wonder how it got mixed up...” He mused, rubbing thoughtfully at his chin with dark pen in hand. He looked up at her, and chuckled nervously, stepping back a half-step. “Sorry...”

Biting at his inner cheek in thought, he rubbed at the tip of his pen absentmindedly, unsure how to ask the girl got such a package.

'Calm down. You act like you're getting a bomb.' Dante consoled him, brushing a wing against his ear.

“So...what is it you're looking for...?” He trailed off, letting the girl finish the sentence with hopefully her name.

When the girl asked for Virgil, Artemis took a step back, pointing to Virgil to mean "He's Virgil, not me"

After her and Virgil exchanged greetings, Artemis came up to them once again "I don't mean to sound cynical here but... Isn't Dante an eagle? wouldn't it be better for him to hunt small animals like mice?... and can eagles even eat regular bird feed? i thought they needed meat" he asked, scratching Dante behind/beneath the ear softly "Oh sorry, rude of me to interrupt, Artemis Couthland, nice to meet you"

After this was done, Artemis decided it might be best to let them two chat for a little bit, squeezing his way past them he went down the hallway to continue greeting the others.

Abby's eyes got wide when she the second boy made his comment and looked down at the food. She hadn't even thought of that, she assumed that since it had his name on it that it should automatically go to him. She was clueless when it came to bird. She hadn't even seen one like Virgil's after all. He looked like he liked animals, perhaps he had another bird hidden somewhere? Lifting the lid of the container she made a face at what was inside before quickly closing it and passing it to him.

"I-I don't know..." She muttered ducking her head down as she blushed feverishly, "I'm s-sorry... I just... well, I was wondering if perhaps you found a black headband in your room by accident. It's very important that I get it back." Her face was on fire from the embarrassing situation. She felt like perhaps she had made a mistake by coming down here but it was no use, she needed her headband back at once. Feeling a bit conscious of it's loss her hand flew to the stone dangling from a necklace round her neck.

"I... Um... I'm Abby," She muttered finally after she realized that was what they were waiting for, "I'm sorry for sure an unpleasant interruption." She then gave them a weak smile in hopes that it looked friendly and not completely horrid with nervousness.

After Herika had gotten up from her seat after the headmaster's speech, she suddenly remembered about an important thing. Her eyes got wide, and her hands flew to her cheeks.

"My books!" She shouted as she run away, leaving Jamie and David behind. She knew she was being rude, but decided that after getting her things she would go to Jamie's room to apologize. After all, she didn't know how her books were treated, being inside her suitcase.

Herika didn't, however, know the way to the dorms and decided to ask a girl near her. The girl didn't pay much attention to her, and pointed to a general direction before laughing about a joke her friend had made, which Herika didn't quite understand, and wandered off to somewhere. Finally, Herika decided to go to the direction the girl pointed out. When she was walking, however, she noticed the quantity of boys was increasing dramatically, as well as the blush on her cheeks. She now didn't see where she was going, her nerves kicking in full force.

Suddenly, Herika bumped into someone and lost her footing. She squeaked a little 'Ah!' and was only glad for there was a wall near her, which she used to keep standing, before looking at the person. It was a boy, probably older than her, with black hair and blue eyes. Seriously, how clumsy was she? Herika flushed even more than before and quickly bowed to the person to hide her embarrassment. "I-I'm sorry...!" She said, while doing so.

He knew he was late. Time, however, had stopped having any real meaning to him long ago. That, and he simply didn't know how to read a clock. Even so, he could give a rough estimate by judging the position of the sun in the sky- speaking of which, nightfall seemed to be coming very soon. As Pandora took his first steps upon the school grounds, the rags he wore waving in the wind, he looked up at the school. It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, and the biggest. He knew he didn't belong here.

Still, he continued past the front gates, ignoring the strange looks the guards gave him as he waved his scholarship letter. Pandora doubted that, without it, they would have ever let someone looking like himself in. He had no shirt, no shoes, and no pants. Instead, wrapped around his waist was some rags long enough to reach his knees. They were a deep red in color, although very dirty. He wore a red rag as a headband to match. His arms, hands, and feet were wrapped with a sturdy cloth that was so dirty they looked black- it wouldn't be strange to presume that he had never taken them off in his life. The only thing that could possibly stand out more than his clothing were his tattoos- black tribal markings that encompassed his entire body, including his face, fingers, and toes. Pandora hated them, hated the tattoos that sealed off most of his powers.

He looked like a downright savage, like someone who had never known civility in their life.

"Did I give you permission to lie down, mongrel? Stand up!" The guttural voice demanded obedience, demanded that he comply. "STAND AND FACE YOUR OPPONENT!" Louder, angrier. If he didn't do this, he would surely be beaten to death, or worse. He was only five- of course he would have fallen first. Even if his opponent was a only a child, just like him, he was still bigger and stronger. He didn't want to hurt the other kid anyway...they were cell-mates, friends. Why him?

He was coming. If he didn't move, the other boy would surely kill him, if his own master didn't get to him first. He didn't want to die...but he didn't want to hurt his only friend.

"What have I been training you for?! Get up! NOW!" He was pulled up by the hair, his tears now plainly visible. "Stop your whining, you pathetic weakling of a mutt. You will fight, or you will die. Do you think that boy will spare your life? DO YOU? We'll see, won't we?" Just like that, he was tossed back in like he was some kind of scrap. Before he even had a chance to move, the boy stabbed him in the shoulder with his knife. It bled profusely, although it was healing slowly.

Instinctively, he reached up with his right hand and stabbed him back. A large, sharpened bone from the top of his wrist punctured the boy's chest nicely. In a single move, he had reached through the boys ribs and punctured his heart- effectively killing him.

"Never again show weakness, or I'll kill you myself."

Pandora shook himself out of his thoughts, just in time to enter the school. Judging by all the students leaving towards their dorms, he had missed the Headmaster's speech and the opening ceremonies. He was oblivious to the stares and looks he was getting, instead opting to try to figure out where to go. He was very tired- walking the entire way to the school wasn't exactly hard, but it was tedious and troublesome. Although the school had offered to take him by car, he had declined. He hated small spaces; they made him angsty and nervous, which was not a good combination for a child trained in cage fighting. He was afraid he would hurt the driver if he had taken up the offer.

He decided that he should find the dorms, in hopes of a place to sleep. But where was that? Looking around, he saw a group of boys heading somewhere, and decided to follow them. They went to the first floor.

“You’re right, always try to stay positive. That’s what my dad always said when a business deal went south.” David said to the girl with the Scottish terrier. One of David’s many quirks he had when meeting new people was that he always tended to get personally a little too quickly. He didn’t have much of a filter when it came to personal things, so the moment he thought of something, even if it wasn't on topic, he would say it. This usually annoyed people, which is why he usually didn’t make many friends. When the other girl spoke David nodded.

“You’re right. I guess that is what this is all about.” He said more to himself than anyone. As the woman on stage mentioned the dorms the girl popped up, exclaiming about her books and swiftly running away. David smiled at this, it seemed like something Emma would have done. As he stood up, getting ready to try to find his dorm he turned to the remaining girl. “I’m David by the way. Hope I see you around campus.” He said, smiling lopsidedly as he began to move toward the door. As he slid hi foot forward it hit a soft lump, nearly tripping him. Lyka! Get up! He yelled telepathically. All he got in response was a soft static. Finally defeated, David picked the pup up and held him like a baby as he moved forward. As he did so Lyka let out a quick telepathic expression of happiness before he slipped back into sleep.

He considered telling Artemis that Dante both could eat feed and meat watching him go down the hall. Though he made a physical note to tell him later in his notepad with a few scribbles, closing it shut. He would see him later, since they were almost roommates. He capped his pen and shoved it behind his ear, glancing up at Abby. His eyebrows quirked up at Abby's nervous demeanor, wondering if he said something to make her that way. Reviewing his words in his head, he wasn't sure, so the only other option he thought of was she was nervous of Dante.

That was Virgil for you. He could pick up the most subtle details, but miss the blatantly obvious.

“Oh, you're not interrupting...” Virgil mused, glancing at the back of Artemis. “Though..I haven't seen any headband....well, then again, I haven't had time to go through my room...what with..” He trailed off, muttering something incoherently under his breath. Often Virgil was known to fall into his mind, lost in thought. It was one of the reasons he was brighter than most people his age, though he had trouble communicating his thoughts most of the time, considering his absent-minded like brain.

“Though, I'll take a look.” He nodded, taking the feed gratefully from Abby's hands. Dante, being the little impatient friend he was, tried to dig his beak under the crook of the lid. Trying to get a bit of feed already.

Virgil gave his eagle a stern scolding look, pulling the crate away from Dante's vicinity. He turned on his heels, walking back into his dorm with steel-blue eyes searching the barren room. Quickly making out a small object, he squinted his eyes and crouched to get a better look, putting the box of feed down. Nestled near the end of his bags, squished between wall and bag, Virgil caught the slightest hint of a small piece of plastic he had never seen before. After studying it a few seconds, he shifted on his feet, trying to get a good grip on the unknown object.

Dante puffed up his wings, gliding to Virgil's bed. Flicking dark orbs back and forth between Virgil and Abby, the eagle gave a little chirp, more eager on digging into the feed rather than find Abby's lost article.

With a hard tug, he pulled on the plastic, struggling to get it removed from underneath his dark duffel.

Putting so much force into the pull, he nearly tumbled back into his wardrobe. “Whoa!” He cried out, almost knocking the back of his head against the dark oak wardrobe, fumbling for a grip against the dark oak.

Steading himself, he brought the plastic to eye level that inadvertently caused him a near concussion. It looked like a headband, formed to a human-shaped head. He wasn't sure though, holding it up for Abby to see near his dorm room entrance.

“Is this it?” He called out.

"Um..." Abby said as Virgil turned and started into his room, his words droning into a mumble she couldn't make out. She followed after him, tucking her arms around her stomach as she stood in the doorway and watched him set the box down. With a cry the bird took flight, causing Abby to jump and follow it skeptically with her eyes. She wasn't sure about birds. They always seemed to dislike her and this one was ten times the size of anything she'd seen before. What had that boy called it? Dante? She gazed at Dante as the bird tried to get at the bird food, Virgil to focused on something else to help her. Slowly Abby approached the box, reaching out a hand to unclip the lid and remove a handful of feed. She then looked at the bird, her eyes a bit unsure, before dumping the pile on a clear part of Virgil's desk. She then turned just in time to witness the black headband pop free of the packages.

"Be careful!" Her heart racing as she took a few steps toward him, ending up just by the door as he tried to steady himself. When he stopped and looking over the piece of plastic that he held. Turning his attention to her, he asked a question that Abby didn't really make out. Her eyes fell on the band, the smooth black plastic and dangling from the right side was a small blue stone wrapped in silver wire. She felt sudden relief as she hurried over and took it from him. There was a reason the headband was special to her, it possessed magical abilities. Ones that helped her control the visions that seemed to always take hold of her at the most random moments. Without the dreadful feelings of those terrible memories she became a totally different person, the person she had been before her powers had awakened.

"I'm so glad it's alright," She said happily, "Thank you! Thank you so much." Her eyes found Virgil's as she lit up, a smile masking her face. She then turned and started for the door with a little wave at him. Pausing slightly as she reached the doorway she slipped the headband on and felt a sense of calm wash over her. Yes, that was much better. She then turned back to Virgil with a new feeling about her.

"Thank you again!" She called and darted out of the room.

Artemis was wandering down the hallway, everyone else was in conversation, and he was just walking past them, his back straight and his hands behind his back, noticing the door to the hallway opening again, he looked, to see a strange boy entering, with black and red markings all over him, as well as scars and a disturbed look on his face, but still he didnt look angry so Artemis approached him.

Artemis didnt open conversation with "Hello" instead he took his jacket off, draping it around Pandora

"you'll get cold if you're only wearing that" he said with a gentle smile, gesturing toward the rags around Pandora's rags, he noticed the boy had no bags, Artemis thought for a moment "you know, i think i'm a size larger than you, you could use my clothes if you'd like, I have a hoodie, some jeans and sneakers you could borrow if you would like" he added, still smiling "I'm Artemis, and you are...?" he asked, holding his hand out for the new boy to shake.

David weaved in and out of the crowds that were dispersed through the hallway. He saw a few groups of upper classmen, mostly second and third year, but on group was full of fourth years. This group had something about them that made David immediately know they were skilled mages. As he passed a girl in the group said something he didn’t quite recognize, and a circle filled with lines connecting different symbols appeared before her. Just as he was about to turn the corner he watched as a being that seemed to be made of pure liquid emerged from the circle. David was astonished, but the others in the circle simply nodded and smiled in approval. Before the creature could be fully clear of the circle the girl snapped her fingers and both it and the circle disappeared as a teacher came around the corner.

David continued walking and finally found his room, across the hall a door was open and inside he could see the tips of feathers and another boy’s voice. He turned toward his door and began to regret his decision of coming to this school. His room could only be a few feet long and wide by the looks of the door. He shifted Lyka and opened the door. The pup yelped slightly as he hit the floor. The room was gigantic. “HOLY DOCTOR THIS ROOM IS BIGGER ON THE INSIDE!” He yelled. The room had a comfortable looking bed, an oak wardrobe, and a beautiful oak desk. A floor to ceiling window sat next to his bed, outside of which an ancient oak tree stood guard. He was ecstatic. He went out in the hallway just as a girl was leaving the room with the open door. He walked over and, making up for early, peaked his head inside and asked, “Is your room weirdly huge also?”

Pandora flinched as a jacket was draped around him, almost panicking as he fought the instinctual urge to attack his would-be aggressor. Although kind in nature, the touch was unfamiliar and alien to Pandora- no one had ever treated him kindly since he was two years old. He didn't know how to react, how to respond to the strange feeling, so he simply stood there dumbstruck.

"you'll get cold if you're only wearing that"

As the other boy gestured down at his rags, Pandora looked at them as well. He wasn't cold at all, although that was probably only because he was accustomed to wearing only the barest amount of clothing. "I..." Pandora's voice was gentle, yet rough, unaccustomed to being used for anything other than screaming. He responded bluntly, "I don't need this." He took off the jacket and held it out to him.

"you know, i think i'm a size larger than you, you could use my clothes if you'd like, I have a hoodie, some jeans and sneakers you could borrow if you would like." he added, still smiling "I'm Artemis, and you are...?"

At first, he was silent, but then continued, ".....w-what are 'sneakers'?" He found himself stammering as his curiosity kicked in, knowing he sounded stupid; back on the island, no one wore proper shoes. No one except the humans needed them, but only the out-of-house slaves were allowed them. Even then, the 'shoes' were nothing more than a bit of wood with a strap of twine to hold it onto the foot.

(so does everyone have their own rooms, or do they all share one big room, or do they all have roommates? I'm a bit confused on this >.<)

Herika walked through the mass of people around the boy's dorm, or at least it seemed like it, for there were too many boys running around and greeting each other. She was nervous, and if she noticed someone watching her she would quickly turn around and walk on another direction. By the time a boy with black hair was giving another one with ragged clothes, she was already lost. She saw a door behind him, and thought that was her chance of getting out of there. Thanking her mother silently, Herika made a bee-line for the door, reaching for the the knob as another girl darted to the same direction. She opened it and mumbled a brief 'Hello...' before perking up. A girl! In the boy's dorm! Well, another one at least... But that meant she wasn't the only one lost in there! She smiled brightly.

"Are you a senior?!" Herika asked her, as she opened the door even further for the other girl, who used a headband on her blue hair. She was so happy to see her that she couldn't control her bright smile.

Abby skidded to a halt, nearly running into a girl just outside Virgil's room. She looked back over her shoulder then at the girl pointing her finger at herself. Was she talking to Abby? Did she just ask if Abby was a senior? A laugh escaped her lips as she began shaking her head, ready to clear up the situation. She waved her hands a little in a gesture that the girl had it all wrong.

"No! I'm just a first year," She said with a smile pointing a finger at her face, "I just came to clear up a mistake. It seemed that they accidentally swapped some stuff of mine with Virgil's." She then stepped around the girl, allowing the doorway to be open so that the boy from the next room could get past. Her eyes drifted over the girl curiously before her attention was caught by the boy from earlier. The one with black hair. He was talking with some boy in rags. With a closer look Abby notice the mysterious marks, her eyes widening a bit.
How strange, I wonder what those are for... She thought before turning to face the girl once more, a question popping to mind.

"Do you know Virgil?" The question was logical, since the girl was also trying to get into Virgil's room, "You must. Well... I'll just leave you to your business then! Besides, I have to get back to my room to unpack." Abby gave another friendly smile, very relieved that she had found her headband. She felt like a great weight had been lifted off her shoulder, making her more carefree and happy. Spinning on her heels Abby started back for the girls' dorm.

On upon Abby's exit, Virgil gave a meek wave and went to open his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Laying his head against his wardrobe, he looked up at his ceiling with a glazed look in his eye. With a inward sigh, he bit at his inner cheek, lost in thought with Dante.

'Can you believe this? Barely an hour here, I've met two people already in a short span of a few minutes.' Virgil spoke to the bird.

Dante was content on hopping on the desk, pecking at the feed Abby so graciously left for him.

'What did you expect? This is a big school, there is a lot of people here.' Dante pointed out, looking at Virgil at the other end of the room.

'Not like that! I meant...usually I didn't get this much attention in regular, non-magical schools back in New York.... what's the difference?'

'Maybe because these people are a little bit nicer than the real world. I mean, didn't you catch the headmasters address?'

'Of course not..I only heard half of it, remember?'

'Oh, sorry. Forgot your deaf most of the time.'

'Hah hah...' Virgil mental voice muttered sarcastically.

'Anyways, he said to keep your friends close, and they'll be useful in the coming years. So..maybe that's why everyone is being friendly.' Dante pointed out, grooming the underside of his right wing.

'I doubt it, but it's not unlikely...what it just to say that it's just coincidence?' Virgil asked, confusing contorting his face.

As if on cue, a boy's voice reached Virgil's ears, making his gaze shoot to his doorway. He observed the boy with a rather placid face, looking like he was slightly perturbed. Though it was his normal look, it was not unheard of for people to take his stoic face as him being angry at something.

Noting his hair, he picked up the detail of a white streak of hair on the boy, finding it peculiar. His eyes darted down to his eyes, noting again that they were an green hue.

In response to the new boy's question, Virgil shrugged. “I...think so. It's pretty large for my tastes..”

He also saw Abby still outside his door room, talking to another girl. He swore he heard his name again, but thought nothing of it, until Dante spoke up.

'You think it's coincidence now, Virgil?' Dante asked, a bit of obvious sarcasm in his mental voice.

'I'm not so sure now...maybe you're right.'

"Of course I am. I'm just that awesome.'

"Don't get a big head now. Only enough room for the two of us, we don't need your ego sucking the rest of the room up..'

Dante turned his piercing gaze to the other boy. Both master and pet observed the boy with curious, wary eyes. Not because they didn't trust him, just they both found it odd how much of a reception they were getting already.

(Actually, Herika opened the doom to the hallway XDDD But oh, well, I'll just go with it ^^')

"Oh, I see! You're new as well!" She smiled brightly, before the other girl mentioned someone who she hadn't met before. She cocked her head to the side. "Virgil...?" She mumbled to herself, before noticing the girl's eyes widened considerably while watching two boys talk. She looked at them as well, also noticing the tattoo's on his arms.

'Oh? A magical creature?!' Herika thought to herself, her eyes filling with curiosity before the other girl turned to talk to her again. She said something about getting into a boy's room. Herika looked around and noticed the door the had just opened was near a boy's room, and, when she opened more said door, which lead to the hallway, for Abby to leave, she almost entered by a mistake his room. She only didn't because of David, who appeared and prevented it without knowing. Herika blushed, and looked at her feet, her glasses sliding down on the bridge of her nose.

The other girl turned on her hills, saying she would return to the dorms. Now flushing, Herika ran after her. "Wait!" She said. "Can I come with you? I've been lost in this dorm since who knows when..."

"Lost?" Abby questioned, "Yeah, sure you can come with me if you'd like." She smiled, knowing what it was like to be lost in this large place. She had been luck to find her own dorm when she had. She'd done it without much real help from anyone else too. Folding her hands together behind her back she began to stroll toward the girls' dorms, her eyes placed straight ahead.

"You're a first year to huh?" She questioned curiously, "It seems like a big change from my old home but I'm glad I'm not the only one having a tough time. I mean, at least I'm not the only one who's gotten lost." She gave a light laugh as she tilted her head to the side, her eyes finding the girl's for a moment as she smiled. She was glad that she wasn't the only one that got lost but she doubted that she wasn't the only one having such a hard time. Her knee still ached quite bad and her palms hurt from where they scrapped the floor when she fell but it was alright, her mom wouldn't want her to give up just yet. Reaching up she touched the headband once, checking to make sure it was safe, before letting her hand drop again.

"I'm Abby," She said kindly, "It's nice to meet you."

(Everyone has their own rooms, but if requested students can share a room as roommates)

Artemis raised an eyebrow "you don't know what sneakers are? well that's odd... hmm" he looked around, seeing another boy who was wearing some "there, you see what that guy is wearing on his feet? those are Sneakers" after this, Artemis glanced at his watch "huh, doesn't look like there is too much time left to mingle, what do you say we go and find your room?"

He took Pandora by the hand and was about to drag him along in the search for his room before remebering "oh right... what was your name, again?" Artemis was getting a bit too excited, he was dropping his poise and stature in his excitement to meet so many people.
