Also, do people have innate magical potential, or is someone's magical ability solely based on knowing the spells? Also, can spells be cast without an item, or do you need an item that's been enchanted to use it?

Also i want to point out...Player characters do not have average Stats by any means. A normal mortal character only has 18 points to distribute. (Enough to have 3 in all categories.) so any player character would trash almost any Npc character in a 1v1. Named Npc characters are a little different but not by much (unless its Atori or a god.) whereas monsters typically have a much higher stat pool (hense why we need a group to beat most of them.) its generally safe to assume larger creatures have larger stat pools.
A good example is Muh and the Baloth. Muh is indeed one of the strongest possible builds on his size class (say medium) yet the Baloth is in a larger size class and is stronger than him while having average strength for its size. (This isn't to say Muh cant deal massive damage to it still.) now as we go through the story we will get bonuses And the gap will close...but until then find solace in the fact that none of your characters fit in the Average category.

There needs to be an item. There are no exceptions to this currently.

And magic potential is based off of ones ability to understand the flow of mana (which governs spell effectiveness) and understand how to optimise energy efficiency (increasing overall spell power.) and learn to assess an enemies natural magic defenses to deal optimal damage. All of which are factored by your intelligence.

WeaselThor WeaselThor Gonna move the Baloth towards the gazebo, if that's cool.
Btw, how tall is this gazebo? I kinda need to jump on this Baloth and although Muh can jump pretty high due to his strength, it'd be easier if he was already above the thing. I've been treating it more like a small stone watchtower if I'm honest. :3

The gazebo is about 15 ft tall and on the pinnacle of the hill. Sounds really easy to me. DnD lists jumping as a strength skill and so will I. You can make it.

Found Kreech the Shaman:

Found the Club of Lyre too:

That's a two handed weapon by the way, so it's bigger than you think!

Congratulations Kloudy Kloudy you gave a creature that uses its head as a battering ram a concussion.
Eheheheh, rest assured the irony is definitely lost on Muh, but he's still extremely pleased! xD
So what's going to happen to the Baloth now that the rest of the gazebo is falling on its head? I kind of need you to tell me how it affects the Baloth so I can continue. Also is the Baloth near-death? Crushed bone on the skull usually means brain damage and internal bleeding (unless its physiology allows it to be resistant to that, which would make sense if it uses its head as a ram), but I'll target it anyway.

Oh, and how much strength did my club give me? I left it ambiguous so you could decide, but my OCD would appreciate knowing the hard number as well. : )

Club- Solid +5 that was some epic motivation and true joy of combat Lyre would be pleased.

Almost no damage from the gazebo but inconvenient for when it tries to get up

Damage wise id say like 46% of its health was just removed (33% from the hit 12% from its painful flip and 1% from the falling gazebo.)
