Lunars, anyone?

Yeah, I never understood the image of Mother Nature as kind and gentle. She's more a sadistic bitch who strikes down the young, the sick and the elderly and, on the random occasion, the strong too, with no apparent motive save some cosmic lulz.

Anywho, I'm expressing interest here but I have a curious conundrum.

I have a concept for a Night Caste Beastman that I've pitched to the ST and have received tentative consent for the character idea. However, they'd be far happier with letting in a non-Lunar if someone in the group was bonded to them.

The character outline at present is a Beastman who took the Second Breath as a Solar rather than a Lunar and now finds himself a bit of an outcast in his own society. He's not outright hated but, like an Abyssal amongst the quick or the dead, he is uncomfortably apart from everyone else. He's probably a rat or cat of some sort or some other stealthy animal. Perhaps something like a Sugar Glider for a really unusual choice. In any case, that's the character idea: A Solar who wants to be a Lunar

Any thoughts? I'd be happy to work out the character design with whomever volunteers for it.

Well, if you're willing to take on a total newb, I've actually got an idea I'm forming in my head while re-reading the Lunar book. ^^

Axelgear: check out my first pc on the pbp board, he was very very similar to what you have in mind (except he was a wolfman of course...)

He was a blast to play and there was a cool dynamic with the other lunars... though if we're going into the wyld... I'd rather highly recommend a twilight beastman shaman instead of a night caste.

That's the thing, Cyl: A Twilight fits in too much. The character's prime concept is a fish out of water; someone who has felt like a constant outcast their whole life. I'd be willing to have them certainly deal with magic but a Twilight is way too... Correct for this. They are supposed to feel like a third wheel at first but eventually come to feel like they are welcomed and a part of the family.

Sometimes, fitting in too much ruins the dynamic of the character, y'know?

Also, how's a Ring-Tailed Possum for the kind of Beastman?

I'm not a big fan of complete outcaste. You can be an anomaly, someone you look down to, but a complete freak is not a good idea... especially if you're the only solar in a lunar pack.

I mean being a beastman AND a solar is already a sufficient social burden from the Lunars eyes.

So if you're a weird stranger and a loner (as most nights are) on top of that... then trust and sharing may be an issue.

That said, you're not going to get the first stone from me

Well, another way to describe them would be like Secret in Keychain of Creation. They're an active group member, they have a purpose, they interact... They just have this underlying feeling of self-loathing and doubt with a tasty drop of shyness here and there for flavour.

Besides, just because most Night Caste are weird loners doesn't mean all are. I've never played a Night Caste that's a loner in the past, to be honest...

Edit: Actually, I kind of just realized your prime point was that they are a Night and therefore you assume that they are a loner/keep to themselves. Thing is, that's not true. Being a Night Caste doesn't mean you're a loner, it just means that your primary method of accomplishing things is through stealth. This would most certainly be the case of my character. They are not a loner, though. They simply feel ostracized and unwanted.

I am definitely interested, I have always loved lunars, but I don't often get the chance to play one. If you have the room, I have a myriad of ideas for characters. I have a specific leaning towards full moons, specifically a eight-tailed mole hound or (at a desperate leap i'm aware) but i've always wanted to make a furnace rhino totem. Let me know what might be possible. I know I'm new to the forums here but i've been gaming for a decade and have been playing exalted since the week of its first edition release.

Many newcomers, I think I'm going to elegantly take my leave and leave the slot open to younger blood then :)

A couple of weeks. Probably early December.

If everyone who's expressed interest can get general character concepts together that haven't already, that would be awesome.

I've got a couple of ideas I'm working on in my head right now:

One of them is a Full Moon lunar, not exactly a powerhouse warrior, but more along the lines of a street urchin type, sneaky and able to hold their own by surprise more than brute force.

The other is either No Moon or Changing Moon, a full on mass shapechanging kind of person who revels in finding new forms to take the shape of and learning the intricacies of how every one of them works.

A note on setting: the game will be fairly Creation-spanning, but will begin in a conclave called in the Eastern Bordermarches. So your characters can be from more or less anywhere (and specialised for rural, urban, etc.) just take in to account they need to be in that Direction at the beginning of the game proper.

I may have revised my first concept into something much more interesting, depending on if snowy owl types are a possibility ^^ Basically, a sneaky, rather fast forest lunar from the northeast forests, with animal forms that would more likely be found in the cooler temperatures.

Changing Moon with a Mouse spirit shape. :D Lil' urban pickpocket.
They'll either get along well or be rivals with my Night Caste Beastman (Ring-Tailed Possum). They're not really a thief, more a scout/spy, and much more comfortable in natural environments so our territories won't entirely overlap.

I would be up for this for sure!! i have always wanted to play a lunar of the Swords of lunar, stalking the wyld and defending creation. Always loved the idea of the unnoticed steward. Probably a Full moon martial artist. concept to follow.

Basalt Claw is a Full Moon Lunar who was born and raised in a desert tribe in the general vicinity of Harborhead. Realm troops stationed there destroyed most of his tribe, and forced him and other survivors into a life of guerilla fighting, trying to avenge the life of their tribesmen.

During an ambush of the force that destroyed his tribe he was Exalted by Luna, and killed the DB leading the troops.

He's short-tempered, and can be harsh, but he did his best to defend his tribesmen, and the neighboring tribes. He revels in his warform, and tends to use it most of the time.

His totem is the Austrech, which makes for a very bizzare looking hybrid form.

So, I changed my mind. Gonna go full-moon, but keep white reaper. here's a start for a backstory/concept.

Even-Tempered Lynx was origionally known as Miku Surestike, a proud hunter of the Haslanti League. Always known for his sure hand with a spear and careful wording in his discourse, he was respected by many. He helped calm hot-tempered youths and drive older, cautious men to action. And yet never gained enemies. He simply knew when to speak and when to listen. He was caring of his family and tribe, yet knew the importance of inter-tribal policy. He was surely destined for a seat on the Council of Oligarchs.

But time would show he was meant for far greater things. When his hunting party was ambushed by the Fair Folk in the night, the men figured all was lost. What they didn't know was that the Fickle Lady was watching. She came to Miku in a vision, telling him how she was so proud of his deeds and could not let his life end here. That she was as proud as any mother could be. Miku Exalted that night, and single-handedly fought off the raiding party with a stunning and brutal grace. His peers were awe-stricken. One of the Lunar were among them, this whole time. His insights and sure handed hunting skill made perfect sense in this new light.

On the return trip home, he was stopped by a cloaked man. He called himself Grandfather Hare. He revealed himself to be another Lunar, sent by his peers to retreive Miku for training. Grandfather Hare named him Even-Tempered Lynx, and tattoed him as a Full-moon. Hare taught him much, including a martial art passed down only so rarely in this Age. Now a White Reaper Stylist, and a full member of the Swords of Luna, Even-Tempered Lynx visits the League when he can, but spends his time travelling the North, hunting the horrors in the dark, to make Creation a safer place.

Little Mouse, as she was known as through out her life, was orphaned at a young age. She was forced to pick pockets and steal food to survive for as long as she can remember. She was a nuisance to the whole city, and was treated as such. Years went by and no one had caught her... That was until she tried to steal from the wrong person. She was caught finally. Placed in prison, but was treated terribly. They kept her in a dark cell way in the back, denying her food and water. She was an orphan, no one would miss her.

But they underestimated her will to survive. And this caught Luna's attention. After three days of no food or water, Little Mouse was delirious, she started seeing... Things. At the time, she didn't know that it was Luna, she thought that the lack of substance was getting to her. She can't even remember if Luna had said anything... But she remembers what she felt next. She shrank? Little Mouse had become her namesake. A mouse with a furry tail. A dormouse, if you would. With this, she was easily able to make her mistake, and steal some food while she was at it.

I've worked mine out a bit as well, here's a bit of backstory/etc.

The Void Winged Maiden was once called Surestha, when she was born the only daughter of the chief of a tribe of Haltans in the deep forests of the Northeast. She was raised under the dark, without ever seeing the sun upon her face, or the sky above, and trained in the warrior ways of the tribe so that one day she could lead them in the war against the Linowan people. Despite this, she also gained much knowledge and information of the lore and history of the world, through a pact her village had with the Fair Folk. Unfortunately, that pact did not defend them against intrusion, nor was it friendly or kind to the Fair Ones.

The Linowan attack came at a complete surprise to the Haltan village, and with the Fair Folk at their sides, the Haltans were outnumbered and overrun. Fight though they did, eventually all but Surestha and her father lay dead, these two surrounded on all sides in the village center. Even as the arrow pierced her father's heart, Surestha continued fighting, resisting the death she knew was coming. In that instant, a change occurred in her, and the moonlight struck through the forest for the first time in her life as she was chosen by Luna; Exalted.

She knew her destiny then, and it was not to die in the war. As her spirit shape took over, she flew into the sky, above the trees, becoming the Void Winged Maiden as she saw the skies and the freedom they brought her.

Pascal the Exile is a Night Caste Solar, a shy and nervous beastman. He was born from a female Lunar's union with the beasts of the forest; a bitter woman of a handful of centuries, swimming in the memories of past incarnations. Taught from the day he could speak that Solars caused the world to grow weak, he vowed to strengthen the world; stealing from those who did not deserve what they had and using it to make Creation a better place. In time, he hoped, he could even be the one to make the Thousand Streams River unnecessary.

Of course, Pascal being a mutated version of a Ring-Tailed Possum was a small creature whose physical prowess mostly lay in his ability to remain unnoticed. He was too meek to ever make much of a change, though he did manage to steal the occasional bit of useful sorcerous lore. Over time, he eventually developed a small interest in arcana. However, he found the flashy style of sorcery far too open for him.

Then, on his twelfth birthday, Pascal Exalted. Not as a Lunar but as a Solar.

Suffice to say, Pascal was devastated. He returned home in shame, fearing for his life, eventually fleeing from home out of worry that his mother might kill him. It's been three and a half years since that day and Pascal is still on the run. He's frightened of being found out and still ashamed of being a Solar. However, he plans to use his powers for good while he has them and has frequently solved large problems without anyone even knowing he was there.

That's the short version.

Just to let everyone know the game will still be going ahead in a few weeks, and player picks aren't finalised. So post away!
