applications

...

Applications will not be a full cs and are essentially a brief "pitch" of the character, so a few paragraphs is absolutely fine.

Applications should include:
- first name
- pronouns
- age (at time of death)
- role
- brief overview of personality/background

You can use my app below as a model for this. This is just to get a taste of your writing and the "vibe" you might have in mind for your character.

Here are a few other guidelines that could be relevant:
- All characters should be 18+ at time of death. although they could spend years as a Cupid, their general appearance won't change after they die, and I'm really not dealing with the whole "minor-who's-actually-in-their-forties" headache,,,
- This roleplay vaguely takes place in Tokyo, Japan. This means all characters died while roughly in the vicinity of Tokyo, since they're bound to the location for work. This doesn't mean that they lived there, though! Whether the characters are lifelong residents of Tokyo or were literally passing through on an international layover and happened to get hit by the isekai truck- all that matters is, this is where they croaked.
- As stated above, only the first names are necessary for characters. Cupids usually forget their last names upon death, and may forget their earthly name altogether and choose a new one.

Additional tech stuff: Illustrated faceclaims only, and no AI, pretty please. Coding is 100% optional, do not feel like you have to submit the application in any particular style.

If any of this seems confusing, please either consult the lore post or message me with any questions!

Roles are included below for reference :]

EROS - "DEVOTEE"

The Devotee has spent years working as a Cupid, all with the goal of one day ascending to angelhood. Somewhere along the line they founded team EROS to work with and lead other like-minded Cupids. As leader and oldest Cupid of the team, they take their task incredibly seriously, and aren't going to sit around to let others ruin the sacred work of creating love. The Devotee considers themselves rivals with The Freeloader, and hates everything they represent.

open

EROS - "ROMANTIC"

The Romantic never got the chance to fall in love, but that didn't mean they weren't obsessed with the idea. Before their death, The Romantic was a romance author who adored the concept of love, and couldn't wait to experience it themselves. In a way being a Cupid is a dream come true, and it isn't so different from the work they did in life. If you want someone to gush about their past successes in matchmaking, the Romantic will be happy to talk your ear off.

open

EROS - "ROOKIE"

It's only been a few months since the death of the Rookie, and they would've been profoundly lost in the world of Cupidhood if not for the help of the Devotee to take them under their wing. While they may not be as passionate about the cause as their leader, they're incredibly dedicated to doing a good job for the team's sake. They're still hesitant about the work and liable to panic whenever there's a gun in their hands, but hey, at least these bullets aren't fatal!

taken

PSYCHE - "FREELOADER"

As far as the Freeloader is concerned, life wasn't anything great, and ascension doesn't look that appealing, either. They've been a Cupid for years, and are naturally content sticking around for as long as they like. Their unbothered attitude has made them irritating to more dedicated Cupids, especially the Devotee. The Freeloader mostly started team PSYCHE because they're entertained by the Devotee's dedication to the rivalry, but despite their lack of passion, they can be just as cutthroat as any other Cupid.

open

PSYCHE - "ECONOMIST"

Love never made much sense to the Economist in life, and death hasn't clarified things. As a formerly dedicated businessperson, the only thing that does make sense is the pursuit of profit. Since becoming a Cupid, their only goal is increasing their amount of karma by whatever means possible. Why? Because it's satisfying to see the number go up, of course!

open

PSYCHE - "SKEPTIC"

The Skeptic has always loathed the idea of love. Yes, others claim every Cupid died with regret, wishing they had found romance: But if you ask the Skeptic, they'll swear up and down that their selection in this process had to be a mistake, because they went their whole life finding love to be a waste of time. Now they're just trying to get out of this heart-obsessed hellhole as soon as they can, by any means necessary.

freeloader

name

"pilvi"

pronouns

they/any

age of death

role

the freeloader

Pilvi was pretty sure they used to like the color pink. Well, feelings from life grew more distant by the day, and sometimes they forgot what came before and after, but they must've at least tolerated it. That was before they got stuck carrying around neon pink and red ammunition to load ivory white firearms, of course. Long before pink became the color of the enemy.

This, they'd tell you, was their one and only regret. "If I knew I'd be stuck with it, I would've dyed my hair again before I died," they'd sigh. "Seeing all that pink in the mirror is such a pain."

Other than that, though? Being a Cupid left them without complaint. No more worrying about food and sleep, no more hourly wages or bills to pay; All they had to do was break even in the karmic scale, and the world would provide more than enough to fill their free time. If they had known dying was going to turn out like this, they wouldn't have spent so long running from the possibility, wouldn't have tried to change their name and their hair and run away to Tokyo. They could've simply gone out with a sigh of contentment, knowing they were bound for their own personal heaven.

Certain Cupids treated this like a second chance, the only way to correct their past mistakes, and they loathed Pilvi for wasting it. But wasn't it worse to work themselves to undeath? It was a waste of an infinite supply of free time, in a world where no one could catch you sneaking into movie theatres.

And as for love? Well, Pilvi was pretty sure they used to worry about the lack of it, but now that they held the means for it in their hands, the whole thing seemed trivial. Helping other like-minded Cupids get their karma was all that mattered; The actual relationships were a means to an end. And if they could piss off some of those love maniacs in the process? Even better.

The Skeptic
GXHl71ibEAEI3u4.jpeg

"Aren't you tired of being nice? Don't you just want to go apeshit?"

Name: "Trouble"
Pronouns: She/They
Age of Death: 18
Role: The Skeptic

Trouble doesn't remember her name. All she knows is the pain she felt in life. She never had anyone care for her, and any relationship she did try to start, ended with her partner cheating on her. Her last partner being the reason she died in the first place. When she saw them kiss another person passionately, she screamed at them and called them a worthless pig, before running off into the street. Her partner tried to reach for her, but it was too late. A semi-truck ran Trouble over and had crushed her head, killing her in that instance.

Perhaps this was what drew the cupids to give her a second chance, but it was already too late. Trouble hated how she got revived, and felt like this was just adding to her suffering. Dying made her feel like all her problems had left, and then these birdbrains decided it would be funny to make her suffer longer (from her perspective.) If the black wings she had sprouted wasn't an indication of the chaos that was about to follow, her declaration of war against the Cupids who believed in love was.

Trouble joined team Psyche, and she had found like minded individuals amongst the group. Of course they all had their reasons to be there, but she liked how despicable they can be at times. She doesn't exactly like how much of a scrooge the Economist is, and does ask at times to get Karma from them so she can buy better weapons. She finds the Freeloader to be comfortable to sit by, but she doesn't love them. Her heart had irreparably been Shattered for a long time.

When on a mission, as a member of team Psyche, she only cares about kicking team Eros's ass and making them cry. If she can make a romance fail, that's even better. She however does know that its unavoidable at times, and if she has to, she will play match maker, if only to get better equipment. But Equipment isn't the only thing she relies on in a mission. Trouble is one of few Cupids who had practiced martial arts in life, her preferred fighting style is MMA.

Rookie

role

The Rookie

During life, Hiyuki was sick for as long as she could remember. Her childhood was filled with constant hospital visits and her time outside and thus time spent around other people was limited in fear it would make her illness worse. Instead of spending her formative years around peers her own age, she was home-schooled, only able to watch longingly through the window as the children in her neighborhood played outside.

She tried to fill the lonely hole in her heart with other passions such as reading or watching shows and it was really by accident that she found her love for painting. It allowed her to bring her desires to life on the canvas and soon her room was filled with happy scenes of Hiyuki surrounded by the smiling faces of friends.

But as she grew older, her illness took its toll and she spent the year she was supposed to graduate from high school in the hospital barely able to sit up without assistance. With her mother and father by her side, Hiyuki passed quietly, the last sight she had of the cherry blossoms dancing past her hospital window.

She expected that to be it, for her to be sent off to whatever afterlife awaited her, so imagine her supposed when she was given a second chance. She was extremely nervous about the gun they placed in her hands but Hiyuki had always had a desire to please others, so she was determined to be the best Cupid she could be to not let the other Cupids down.

While she had been alive she had often day-dreamed about meeting someone and falling in love, but her illness left very little room for her to meet anyone and such it remained just a dream all the way until she died. Being the one to bring people together fills Hiyuki with a bittersweet feeling; she's genuinely happy for the couples but she feels a bit sad that she may never have a chance to experience love.

Valentine.png
Name: Valentine
She/Her
19
The Romantic
Valentine's first love was always music, having used it growing up to express herself. Enough so that she would eventually be recognized by an agent who was on vacation in her hometown. To her, the attention was rather jarring at first. However, as the only daughter of a single mother who works at the local hotsprings, she had no room to deny. Her songs were always deeply passionate, no matter the genre. Her image became parallel with fire as she commonly expressed love as a burning passion. Once she graduated from school, she would begin visiting and playing at nearby towns, attaining status as a local celebrity in her area.

Still, despite all the singing of confessions of love, dates, and passions, she never found herself feeling that way for a specific person. Had she been overexposed to people? She could never put her finger to it, and it would even stress her out at times. She longed to feel that passion for someone, the same passion that fueled her music. This is where her saying "My first love will always be music!" would come when asked about relationships. After enough time having successful shows in the area, she would be fully signed to a label, and would even going on tour around the world, with her first stop being a full debut in Tokyo.

On one of the days leading up to the concert, she would bump into a fan about her age, who asked for a picture. She took the picture with them, holding up her hand to make half a heart with them in the picture. After a brief thanks, she would continue on her way to practice. She didn't think much of it, as the fan was not the first or last to ask for a picture. That is, until the day of the concert. She was already prepared, uniform and makeup fully on before the show. She had gone outside for a deep breath, and to look at her journal of lyrics and thoughts, something she did when she was nervous. This was it, the beginning of something big!

"Oh, hi! You're -------- right?"

A voice came from down the alleyway. Valentine was surprised to hear her actual name by a stranger, but figured it was a fan. The fan would approach, having a bouqet of flowers. The fan, to Valentine's utter shock, would take a knee and confess their love for her.

"Oh, I-I appreciate your courage, I really do! B-But unfortunately, my first love will always be m-music!"

she fumbled out, quickly trying to get back in the venue in an attempt to escape the social horror she was experiencing. To her dismay, the door was locked, needing a card scan to re-open. A card she did not have.

"Tch. Well, if I can't have you..."

she barely heard it, turning to see the fan now rapidly approaching with a hand behind their back.

"Nobody can."

Valentine would eventually be found bled out from mutiple stab wounds.

Waking up as a cupid, she only remembered her stage name, weirdly enough. However, she wouldn't let her untimely death be the end of her goal, spreading love around the world. She continue her work as a cupid in team Eros with the same fervor she had as a musician. She generally favors shotguns, flamethrowers, and grenades, believing them being the closest to represent the passion of love.

(music below cs)

They passed simply—in their sleep. Some might call it tragic, only twenty-eight yet robbed from life. Frankly, Ajisai does not care to dwell on it. Their demise was nothing eventful. But the hours leading up to their death—those haunt them.

(what irony is it to be reborn as a Cupid the night you awkwardly turn down your best friend? the week you tell off your older sister for her blind dates instead of focusing on her job? the month your parents finally break up?

regret. repent.

this is your mission now, to spread love.

because you are a Cupid and karma is real.)

If not for the pigeons with their near-daily assignments, Ajisai would have lost himself the first week on the job. Stuck in a spiral of hysteria and denial. Self-loathing. Because this was punishment, wasn't it? What else could it be?

(what else can it be when you die and spawn in a ghost-realm of pink and white and gold-gilt chaos? of guns and chains and rosy grenades? of ascended fools playing love like a video game?

this cannot be how love works. he refuses—)

They formed Team EROS by the end of their first month.

(their brightest memory is this: coming across like-minded [ROMANTIC], the undercurrent of glee that came with working together that first time—just the two of them. they could taste victory on their tongue—and when they succeeded? jubilance and euphoria. he was giddy past life, in death—for the first time in years.)

It was [ROMANTIC] who talked Ajisai into recruiting more team members—most temporary, and those who elected to truly join had already been dedicated Cupids for years, all reincarnated or ascended by now.

(they were down to just Ajisai and [ROMANTIC] for the first time since the start till [ROOKIE] came around—for the best. Ajisai had been getting a little—lonely without anyone to lead. without anyone to fuss over, as some other Cupids might put it.)

These days, EROS and duty are what Ajisai lives for.

(love is sacred—EROS’ motto, Ajisai’s mantra. when the nights are unkind, they say it to themselves until they can believe it. if their duty is love, then they cannot spiral. EROS holds them accountable. slip, and PSYCHE breaks hearts with their careless collateral. and they refuse

love is sacred.

no mortal should ever suffer its tragedy.)

Economist

name

"valentine"

pronouns

she/her

age of death

22

role

the economist

What even is a business? Simple: it's a trade. You trade your labor for your boss's money. You trade your boss's money for another boss's goods. Then, they use your money to pay for someone else's labor! As long as money's exchanging hands, then anything's a business!

So no, Valentine WOULDN'T call herself a two-bit conman and thief. She's a business woman.

Born into extreme poverty in her youth, Valentine has always been acutely aware of the weight of her wallet. To her...making money has always been just as much of a necessity as eating and breathing. Throughout her life, she's been a door-to-door salesman; a phishing scammer; a rental girlfriend that one time; hell, even as a kid she was stealing packages off porches! And maybe that was where it all started. Because more than anything? Valentine has always been a charismatic con-man and thief...even unto undeath.

Ah, love. Valentine has nothing against it! She didn't particularly care for making people fall in love for a con—but that was mostly just because she hated the mess it caused afterwards. And that was just the problem with love. When your career is built around lies...well, let's just say that money can't fix everything. Almost! But not quite. Bridges always got burnt. Tears always got shed (not hers, though). And cheeks always wound up getting slapped (okay, this was always just her).

So why bother with chasing after love?
It clearly never fit into Valentine's life while she was alive. To her, all chasing it earned you was a pit inside your stomach. And a drinking binge, probably. So one day, Valentine just...gave up on trying to understand it for herself! She dedicated herself to her businesses (her cons), because at least money made sense. Money was good! It was simple, it was undeniable, it was a physical ticket to buying yourself happiness. Not like love. Love just made her feel...confused.

And look where that mindset got her.
To this day, Valentine STILL has no idea where the hell her body went. Nobody cared enough about her to write it down.

...But, hey! That's all in the past. Valentine's not like that grumpnut, [The Skeptic]—yeah okay, Valentine can respect her grind to ascend or reincarnate or whatever already, but sheesh. That Cupid needed to learn how to cut back and enjoy their job. Now...[The Freeloader]? THAT was her type of cupid. What's the point of being attached to your past life if the fat lady's already gone and sang? It was better to just find a way to enjoy yourself. And Valentine had to admit...messing with those idealists on Team EROS was a pretty damn good way to do it. Fun enough to warrant sticking around with Team PSYCHE. But, in the end,

Once a conman, always a conman. And baby, nothing's more profitable than a good old fashioned war.

the
Romantic

momoki

she/her

twenty-five

romance novelist

trust me! i'm basically a love expert!

Momoki would like to think she knows a thing or two about love. Anything romance-related, and she's probably got a story or two, or fifteen to tell! With how vividly she speaks of her experiences with love, it's difficult to believe this girl ever became a Cupid. It's a meet-cute, it's a love triangle, it's a childhood friends-to-lovers-but-I've-loved-you-since-forever. She's done it all!

In her dreams, at least.

Momoki might be one of the few Cupids who retains a lasting connection to her former life. Fujino Momoki's works are easy to find in almost any bookstore in Tokyo even eight years later, and Momoki's candid— boastful, even— of her prolific career as a best-selling novelist. It's surprising how much she remembers about her novels, almost like it was the only thing that mattered to her in life. In fact, most of her self-elected off-hours are spent in the bookstores just to keep up with the latest works in her genre.

Who was she beyond Fujino-san? Momoki always says she doesn't remember anymore!

Look closely when you ask, and you might see that cheery little facade splinter and shimmer in its fragility. It's subtle— a twitch in her smile, a shuffle of her feet. She's excited for the day her words become truth, when every last fragment of that life so pathetic yet so plain it couldn't even be called a tragedy slips away in its entirety. A lot of it is gone by now, but the miserable feeling that overwhelmed her before death is a stain she cannot rid herself of. Momoki wouldn't dress so pretty otherwise, twist miserably straight hair into curls or pigtails or braids, desperate to be someone different— someone else— other than ████.

Enough of all that downer talk. She's Momoki the Cupid now; nothing more, nothing less!

And, to be fair, she's darn good at her job. She was practically made for something like this, with a keen eye for detail and an uncannily good sense for matchmaking. Karma doesn't matter as much to her as a satisfying ending, and Momoki is perhaps too open to the idea of a dramatic setback, here or there, for the sake of an interesting story— something worth writing about, you know? All for the Goddess' entertainment, or something!

To be honest, she might enjoy being a Cupid a little too much. Momoki's long-accumulated enough karma for reincarnation (given her brilliant track record!), but she's opted to hang around because she loves what she does. Ascension is too lofty a goal for her, but if she doesn't keep
[THE DEVOTEE]
company— well, who will? Never mind that she doesn't feel quite ready to confront the human experience again; not while the remnants of her past despair continues to linger contemptuously.

She'll consider it again when the time comes. Sure!
