She followed, thinking over his question. She knew the answer, of course. All she'd ever thought about was her future.


"My goals are none of your business and I see no logical reason why you be intrigued. But if you must know, I aim to get good exam results. I aim to get into a good university and get a degree in creative writing or perhaps law. My parents want me to do law." she shrugged, "Then, I will work until I have enough money to live comfortably. And maybe I will get married and have children. And that's it. That's all I want to do."

He could've sworn that they were from his school. Nobody else looked so obviously American, out of place and hopelessly lovey-dovey. Maybe he wouldn't be lost out here forever. He got up and jogged over, pushing his hair out of his eyes.


"Eric! Eva!" That was their names right? He reached them and decided not to greet them with a "hello" or a "hi" or a thank god, I thought I'd be stuck out here forever". Instead, he said:


"Do you know that jumping off the Eiffle tower is the third most popular way of committing suicide in France?"

"No, need for logic to be involved to be curious about somebody, it is not my way and you didnt have to answer." He said taking them through the city."I hope you reach your goals, they are fine once to have. I wont press you further dont worry. Do either of you have any intrest in history, i can tell you what i know about a few of the places we will go through."

Eric turned as someone from behind him called his name. It was Jinx a gothic looking boy who was also on the trip. Before he or Eva could greet Jinx, they were told about how many people jump off the Eiffel Tower.


"Ehh.. cool" He said trying to sound casual.

Eva raised an eyebrow looking at Jinx. She all of the sudden went shy and looked at her feet. She wasn't good at talking unless she started the conversation. She clasped her hands in front of her. She stood there quietly, looking at the two

The three of them stood there in awkward silence for about 10 seconds , Eric noticed that Eva had suddenly gone shy.


"Well, shall we..?" Eric said as he gestured towards the Eiffel Tower that was now almost looming above them.

"Shall we throw ourselves off?" Jinx raised an eyebrow, in confusion, "Well, you can if you want. Nobody's going to stop you. If anything, I'll just find it amusing. Then, I'll probably try and resurrect you from the dead and- you were just talking about going up the Eiffle tower, weren't you?" He realised with a sigh, feeling disappointed.

Eva frowned at Jinx's comment about throwing themselves off the tower, it even kinda scared her. Was the kid crazy? She quickly rushed over to the towers elevator and waited quietly for Eric to get on.

"Eh, yeah, no one's gonna be throwing themselves off" Eric said cooly as he and Jinx followed behind Eva who had already reached the elevator that was in front of them.

eva practically hid behind Eric from Jinx. She was really shy when it came to new people... and Jinx was new. She had seen Eric around school a lot, so she wasn't shy around him. She had never seen Jinx before.

"You know, I'm not going to eat you. I'm yet to resort to cannibalism. Unless we get stuck in this elevator, in which case I will definitely turn to cannibalism and devour your flesh and blood. Maybe I'll make necklaces from your bones." he paused, realising he might be coming across as creepy, "So... How are you guys enjoying France? Seen any mermaids?"

Eva looked at the boy, narrowing her eyes, "are you on drugs?" She asked in a serious tone. She wasn't sure if he was taking something or just plainly like that. The elevator started going up and stayed behind Eric.

"It's fine" Eric murmured in reply to Jinx all the while hoping that the elevator wouldn't break down.


He moved closer to Eva who had been hiding behind him for some time now. "You ok?" He said quietly to her.

"I-I don't like that guy" she said quietly to Eric. "I'm not good with complete strangers..." the elevator halted to a stop and Eva grabbed his arm tp steady herself. She saw they were only at the halfway platform and then the elevator continued to go up. She didn't let go of his arm, although her grip wasn't so tight.

"I'm not on drugs. I just spend a lot of time alone, thinking about death and despair and our inevitable demise." Jinx said. He could see that he was unnerving Eva and found it rather amusing actually. To think that she was scared of him.


"If this elevator jammed, we could be here for over a day." Jinx said, "How do you guys feel about enclosed spaces?"

"I'd kill you before you kill me" Eric said, with a sinister and cold look on his face, most people hadnt seen this side to him before, it was definately out of character. He attempted to pass it off with a laugh, leaning back on the elevator wall.
