Ember snuck past the kitchen door, and ran outside. Phew! Mrs. Dempsey didn't see me. She had been afraid of the old lady ever since the accident that killed Alvin at the farm. She had constant nightmares that Mrs. Dempsey would hurt her. Scarlet too. But she had to prove to Scarlet that she was brave. Someday, somehow.

Outside in the sun, Ember twirled. In the distance she saw Inari and Jay, and part of her longed to run to them. But for some reason, she stayed, just watching them. She wished she had a cat to pet right now, but it was too close to suppertime to go to the Cafe. Cats were easier to open up around than humans for some reason.
It was hard for Ember to just be a kid anymore. Knowing that Inari and Jay were out here, she couldn't twirl around anymore. Only by herself could she ever be Princess Philomena. She sighed and sat in the dirt, watching hopelessly.

Inari nodded, and was about to respond when she felt someone approaching. As much as she'd been dulling her senses of late, they were still better than the average person's, and she didn't like muffling them too much. She already felt disconnected from most people- she didn't want to have that disconnect with the world around her, too.

The sensations echoing through the ground, though jumbled with numerous other things, felt quick and light, before suddenly stopping. Probably a girl's footsteps, and to be honest Inari couldn't see either Scarlet or Beca skipping around. Which meant...

Inari glanced around behind her, not sure exactly where she was, and cupped her hands over her mouth before calling, "Emmy~! C'mere princess!" It'd be embarrassing if this wasn't actually Ember, but Inari tried to have a bit of confidence in her abilities. She hoped it was Ember, not to say she was right, but because she missed the little one. Inari hadn't seen her much lately, or many of the others if she was honest.

Ember's eyes widened and her face turned bright red as she heard Inari calling her. I should've known. Now what? Ember hated this feeling, but she was starting to feel more insecure around her 'siblings'. It was frightening, to suddenly feel distant from the only people she had ever been close to. She wished it wasn't this way, but... now it was. Ember swallowed the lump in her throat, but tears slipped down her face anyway. She concealed a sob. Don't make a sound. With that, Ember placed herself flat against the wall and tiptoed away.
