Dapper Bunny
The Classiest of Lagomorph
Welcome
to the alternate world of the Caribbean sea and the rest of the world too. In this world you can be just about anyone and.. Everything? But only just about anything. The time setting is just the start of the 1670 century.
In this world you can do what you want.. Everyone has a personal life goal. Do you seek to explore ancient and forgotten civilisations or do you want to become the king or queen of pirates? And lead an armanda against the british West Indians isles? Or maybe you have a grudge against the dutch there? Or do you just seek to find a land and start a new life as a governer, ruling over your citizens and controlling the trade that passes your little rule? While everyone has their goal.. A old ragged captain stumbled into the same tavern, brothel or even in your own house. There he told you about the crown of the Caribbean, a jewel which is said to make the wearer lord of the caribbean sea. Whatever you did to the old captain he left you with a single silver coin with the logo of a burning skull. Is this a new start for you? Or do you wish to throw it away and try and turn others away from a madman's tale?
The choice is yours, whether you become a captain of a ship or join one, and maybe take it over from the old cap'n? Your life is yours.. But.. Whatever happens in the caribbean can affect the rest of the isles.. And the sea is becoming restless.. Tales of creatures twice the size of galleons dragging ships to the bottom of the sea, other stories tell about ships clad in dark plates and with skeleton crews.. Are these but myths? Or is there a hint of truth behind these rumours?
Whatever you do.. The caribbean will always change, it's all up to yourself whether you'll go out and make a name or sit back and control from the shadows.
The major factions call to arms.. They are bigger and allow you to repair and restock in safety of ports. Be part of fleets.. But the life is a life of a working man.. Your duty is to the king or queen of your nation and the governor of your port. Your choice can cause imbalance.. But whose to say that not even the factions hold some secrets?
Factions.. Pretty much.
Some extra details and mechanics:
Very well. You decided to join or commandeer a ship and it's crew. Now here comes some technical things.. Which should be quite easy to find on the internet. But I'll throw some links and/or pictures in when needed.
Ships are different. From a mighty but slow war galleon to a nimble but small sloop. All the ships are a bit different, and all the ship "Types/classes" can be different to an extent from each other.
As you can see this is what we shall call the default class for atleast these ships, there are many more of course.. And perhaps some ancient ones that can be rebuilt? But from here on we can easily take the schematics from this.
Cannons:
Should explain itself. The more cannons a ship has the heavier it is, but also more powerful. I think that should sum up the cannons. Of course, you have many different munitions. Such as grapeshot, chainshot, spidershot etc.
All of the munitions! Of course.. Not all of these go in ye' standard cannon, although it's worth a try, what's the worst that can happen, an explosion?
Men or better know as crewmembers:
These possibly have the biggest impact on your ship. All things considered each and every man or woman on your ship has a brain on their own. Not a lot are going to risk their lives if you were trying to ram a sea monster or go toe to toe with a ship twice the size of yours. These people are used for just about anything on your ship though, from the daily maintance, to fighting and boarding and even to accompany you on your adventures on the many unexplored isles of the Caribbean.
But these men and woman are not free, well not the majority.. They'll need pay and food, and shoretime if prolonged time on the sea. A little more about what happens when you lose crewmembers. (A side note: Players on other players ships also counts as a crew, and they have every right to do as they please.. Of course.. So does the captain.)
Speed:
This is nautical miles as we know it. Damage to the ship, the weight and the flags all determine how fast your ship is. Pretty simple as that. Here are two converters. One manual and one automatic. Use at own free will.
Manual
Bit more automatic and with quite a few other converters.
As said.. Simple as that.
Agility:
Now this should also explain itself. How good your ship is at turning and other tricks. This is mainly affected by the ship itself. The more damaged major parts of the ship the less agility. Now agility goes not with numbers. So instead we got the four defaults and two extra for some variety. For the heaviest ships with a personal fleet of cannons. = Worst. and for that scuttle which is the primitive speedboat = Best. These two extra are if you are going to create a ship yourself of course.
Capacity:
This.. Well like the rest should explain itself; How much your ship can carry, the bigger the ship the bigger the capacity.
Now because we do not need hours on end to think how much rations and munition weight, we'll remove those.. While still keeping it realistic. No one got unlimited ammunition or rations. Anyway, the capacity is going to affect trade goods and prisoners, (Of course, if people want too we can add munition and that.)
"But? How do we defeat other ships in combat?" Well peep's.
Win/defeat.
I've thought about this for a while and concluded. Each catagory is in it's own way health, reaching zero is different for all of them (Well except speed, since one might just be standing still.) One way of defeat is of course losing cannons.. Once all your cannons are gone (This' is quite hard to remove of course.) You're down but not out, all according to speed you might still escape. So the other ship/player still needs to damage your speed. The easiest is to use chainshots at close range. Reducing your speed to half of it's value would consider you dead weight and you've lost the battle. Capacity have no effect on these really. A ship could be battle-worthy even if a hole is punched through it's cargobay. Losing all your speed and/agility is also a defeat.. You won't be able to move and your ship can't turn.
(Side note: Even though a ship may have a bad agility, doens't mean it's agility is easy to remove and loss of all cannons doens't mean defeat. You could always try and board the other ship.)
Now men.. That is quite different. Losing all your crewmembers.. Means defeat too. Although the players have in a way a much harder way to die in a ship battle.. (For a special reason.. ^^) Anyway losing your men is the worst effect that can happen. Losing 1/4 of your men isn't going to affect you badly. In fact it means less rations used. Altough reaching 2/4 (1/2, 50% half of 'em.) Is bad. When this happens your speed, fighting abilities and agility is reduced, since you have fewer men to work on the ship. Losing 3/4 of your mean is critical impact. Your fighting capabilities are at near minimum, your speed and agility is on a scale. You cannot have both of them active anymore. So it's either foward, backwards or stop to turn.
Of course this is against ships. Sea monsters are quite different and varies from each other too! But the easiest thing to do is shoot until it stops moving, or sail the fudge away. (Of course.. It might be faster, but most monsters don't stray far from their home.)
(I know this is a bit much. But feel free to ask me anything. There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.)

Everyone starts in the Caribbean sea. Although the whole world is valid for traveling too. But beware.. The further from land and the Caribbean you go, the closer comes the laughter of the insane.

1) Standard rules, no Mary or gary sues or bunnying. Don't kill without having a confirmation from the person etc. All of the rules we are familiar with.
2) Readable grammar. Nobody is perfect. Look at me, I am danish and I am just trying my best here.
3) The cake is a lie. No really pie is much better.
4) Preferred a paragraph, I understand writers block completetly. And I will give thanks to Mitheral for this idea of his: Conversation can be a bit awkward so do it in a private conversation and copy it all together and one of you post it. It's a clever idea and can certainly make talking less awkward when you need to write more than a single line.
5) There is only a limited unselectability in characters. You cannot be a giant sea monsters. But you can be a guardian of an ancient civilisation or a minor sea creature.. Of course if too many players are that.. I am going to cut it off.. This is more about the people seeking their goals in the Caribbean, not about the little mermaid.
6) If you read this far. Please put in your character sheet what I thought was a lie.
