Fantasy Looking for one, but groups would be fun

So, primarily I'm looking for one set partner to do an intrigue/romance themed sort of thing.

I have most of the world's main focus areas fleshed out and ready to go with google docs already made and organized for folks who would want to go for easy character building. Otherwise you're welcome to come up with your own stuff and we can slap it all together.

The general plot goes as follows:
In the northern reaches of Cantis, something lurks out in the mountains. Something old. Something giant. Something hungry.
With the war brought to a close and peace mostly restored across the region, King Vladimir was shocked to receive reports that people and dragons are going missing, with only bones left behind.
You and several others have been stationed together at Ft. Summerwood in a first, joint effort between Cantis and newly allied Sarti to try and get to the bottom of what is happening. Perhaps a grouping of accomplished mages and dragon riders can put a stop to all of the deaths.

Sounds interesting. I'd kind of be interested in making both a dragon rider and a mage but the overall plot sounds interesting based on what you've provided.

You would be more than welcome to make several of each, if you so chose. What I wrote down is essentially the bare bones of the plot.
I can send you links to the google docs with the world information if you like.

Okay, just a question for you. I am reading Cantis history and you put in Sarti History into the first paragraph. Is that a typo?

Cantis does not believe itself to be a large country, since the majority of its people are localized to a relatively small area. But on most maps, it is considered one of the largest regions in the world. Most of the land is home to dragons of all shapes and sizes, and ever respectful of their infinitely more powerful neighbors, most of Sarti’s population has not bothered to encroach on Dragon Territory.

You're welcome. Found another one here:

Each native citizen to Cantis has dragon blood in their veins. As such, they are a tall people -they tend to average around at least 6’7”- and all have various shades of yellow iris’. Some are born with scales upon their bodies in a variety of colors, but they do not overtake their natural skin tones. And of those, there are many. And generally long-lived, the average age has waned over the centuries, but most tend to make it to about 400 before they pass. Very few individuals in Sarti show their heritage beyond that: The Royal Family, and Caretakers.

Okay and you're welcome. Reading up on Sarti's history now but I think I'll have my rider be from Cantis (obviously) and mage from Sarti.

I do have a question. Is it possible for a dragon rider to have a newly hatched dragon or must they be older than a newly hatched egg to become a rider?

Cool. Now I have a few questions on the mages. Are they only able to do one such magic or can they do more? How do they harness their power? Do they have animal companions to help guide them/protect them? Are there any magics that are "forbidden?"

generally speaking, both parties have to be adults before they can attempt the trial to become Dragon and Rider. But that doesn't mean they can't have an established relationship before hand. It's not uncommon for families and individuals who live near nesting grounds to go out and find hatchlings to adopt and raise with the blessings of a laying parent.

Mages in Sarti are considered officially 'trained' in their powers. Just because they gathered the resources to get a handle on their powers from "appropriate" sources doesn't mean it's the only way to learn. But magic is a skill that differs with each individual.

Technically speaking, there's no such thing as a 'forbidden magic' in Sarti, but certainly there are some that are frowned upon due to the fact that they can cause insane amounts of harm or damage. In those cases a specific license is required in order to practice. Some things like, necromancy for example, are more frowned upon than others.

as far as animal companions and how the power is harnessed go, it's plausible. I haven't played as much in the sandbox for Sarti as I have Cantis, so I'm open to ideas and world development as it comes.

I was thinking of my mage being trained in healing (beginning level), conjuration (main branch of magic), spellcrafting and transmutation (shapeshifting and elemental transmutation through use of an amulet). He would have been a former knight turned assassin before becoming a mage.

As for my dragon rider, probably a foundling who lives within the temple but is the child of a noble family. I was thinking she would have been have been born crippled and blind which was partly why she was abandoned and taken in to live at the temple, getting lost one day when she wandered away from it and being found by a dragon nesting ground and given an egg that hatched for her. When they would form as dragon and rider, the dragon's magic would heal her blindness and restore her to optimal health, in other words making it so she wasn't a cripple anymore.

Something else I was considering...would you be alright with my making a hybrid of a dragon/human who isn't a rider but does have a sheltered sanctuary for dragons. Something I call a Dragon Sage who serves...almost as a liason between dragons and the citizens of Carstil Cantis. He'd be able to communicate with dragons in their native tongue and with humans as well as having a bond with all dragons. As such he'd be able to breathe/control fire and ice elements, have wings and have a dragon form he could change into; a race known as Lo'ang. Likely the race is thought extinct but would be what the true hybrids of dragon/human were called and lives in an isolated area of the kingdom that is possibly hard to get to. The only ones who might know of him would be the current king and possiby the right and left hands of the king.

That sounds super cool, for all three of them!
And by Carstil, do you mean Cantis? Or is this a separate place all together?

I have a blind rider as well, and his bond with his dragon is more that they share his disability. He stays blind unless he needs to borrow his dragons sight, in which case the dragon is blind for the brief period he uses their eyes.

Cantis yes, sorry about that! Thanks, glad you like the ideas of them.

Ah that is sad and somewhat bitter sweet in a way. Anyway, I think I am ready to start, though I might reveal personality/history in the RP but give brief backgrounds.

Rather than having the King know about your Lo'ang, I feel like the caretakers would be more likely to stumble across him first, and keep his existence a secret. They are a shady bunch and only share as much information as they feel is necessary.
They acknowledge Vlad's position as king only due to his clear lineage. They tend to see anyone else who doesn't express as much of their dragon heritage as they do as someone who is lesser.

I am ready to go as well. But my account is very new, and I don't think it will let me set things up yet.

That sounds fine to me. The explanation on them acknowledging the king's position sounds neat.

Ah, what did you have in mind? Doing this in the 1x1 board or PM?

I would prefer a PM, but as of right now I can only respond to them, I can't make one.

Do you have any images you would like to use for your characters? I know I have several lined up for my own. I would only need to see the image once, we don't have to do the whole, put it on every post and code everything, like they do on other forum sites.
