Hello, I am wanting to make a zombie RP. Now, I’ve been thinking of how I could make it different, without going too beyond the realm of reality (Though, I am a firm believer that reality is stranger than fiction). I was in the general discussion part of the forum, and someone said that “Zombie RPs are either Cliche and boring, or too over the top with no realism” As someone who’s a diehard fan of zombies in general, that statement has some merit to it. I think people either try to recreate the next rick grimes, a natural born leader, (or the antagonist). Or, they try to create a loner who has it all figured out. Now, some people would say “What about police officers, soldiers, and the like” that’s true, but that falls into the Cliche category. Don’t get me wrong, I hate putting chains on someone’s creativity. So, without getting into any more boring explanations, let me try to, in the best of my ability, paint the picture of what I want my RP to look like.
Now, I have created several other RPs before, but it has been a while. And when I’m a GM, I’m pretty much a hands off kind of guy. Meaning, I give a setting and let the dogs loose. This time, I don’t think I’m going to do anything different. As of right now, I think there will be two threads, this one, and the RP itself thread.
Onto the story, I think a medium sized city would be appropriate. New York may be too big, and the characters running into each other may take longer. Though, not small enough to where there would be very little to do. Pittsburgh, St.Louis, and the like are something that I’m leaning towards.
Characters, how will they meet up? Again, as someone who has an hands-off approach, that can be up to the players. Do we all want to be in random parts of the city, work in the same office, all be friends in the same Neighborhood, all be in one family, and everything in between. What are the requirements for the characters? I don’t think there will be any, if you want to be a chef, go ahead. Do you want to be a convict that was let go before the guards quit, that would be an interesting twist. I have no rules, but, if you are going to be someone with combat experience, try to make it unique. All I ask is treat it realistically, that’s why I put it in the realistic/modern section of the forum. For the character sheet, put name, age, picture (not required), and bio. Not too complicated, as I would figure people can just make up the equipment they have once they’re in the game. And I don’t think I’d need to put a limiter on how much people can have and what people can have. Unless, that’s something y’all want.
Zombies, that’s another one that I will want input on. I really don’t want the “Here’s a slow walker that you have to shoot in the head.” I’m torn between the 28 days later style of zombie and the I Am Legend style of zombie. If we use the 28 days later template, then at least we could have a time frame of when they’ll starve to death. The I Am Legend zombies are a bit more athletic and depending on tastes, may be more interesting. Though, both I would say are a step above the average The Walking Dead zombie.
