Muhen

Age: 25
Status: Vagrant
Appearance:
julia-caezar-mugen.jpg
Weapons: A very uniquely shaped sword which looks like a mix between a katana and a sai sheathed in an almost maroon lacquered wood, elegant no doubt but odd given the time period. The bottom of the sheath holds a very well hidden tanto sized blade, seamlessly held in the sheath.
Natural Skills/Talents: Unorthodox fighting style: mixing break dancing with sword play making his movements and strikes extremely unpredictable.
Very agile and nimble: making getting away from attackers very easy, quick on his feet, quick reflexes
Perceptive: despite his seemingly low level intelligence... he's aware of his surroundings to the point of appearing psychic to less observant individuals.
Sword Talent: On top of having an unorthodox fighting style he's also very skilled with a sword.
Unnaturally Lucky: How many times has this guy been in the hands of death and escaped?

Personality: Stubborn, a bit narcissistic, kind by nature, crude/vulgar, lover of the ladies.
Background/History: Coming from a small village on the west most side of Japan, known for being almost barbaric in their cultures; He was raised in the village. His family never having much wealth caused them to go hungry a lot of the time. Once Muhen was old enough to do so, he would steal food from the nearest markets so that his family and himself could survive. Getting in trouble with the locals and even serving jail time on multiple occasions. His luck ran out when the Sengoku Jidai Era approached with extreme prejudice. Having his village being over taken by the local shogunate, his family couldn't afford to pay for their land with the rise of taxation.

As such they were all sent to a public execution where one by one Muhen watched his whole family die. A surprise attack by a competing shogunate was the only reason Muhen survived. He hid himself in the corpses of other men and waited for sunrise. Where he found the sword he still carries to this day and left the village headed for anywhere but his home. Along his journey he met several other people around his age who happened to be pirates. So he worked with them in raiding treasure gallows and the like until their ship got attacked by an army. Everyone scattered and was assumed to be dead. Resilient to the end though Muhen survived. Taking his new found sword skills and talents to make a living off the land by taking down local bounties, doing favors for people along his way, and barely scraping by day to day.

In his journey's he stumbled upon another person like himself, without a home, foreign to the rest of the country, and extremely skilled with a sword. After getting into a scuffle with the man they fought for 2 days and 2 nights. Completely exhausted and bloody. Yet somehow the two of them survived and made amends through exhausted and pained sentences. After that they just kinda... stuck together, using both their combined skills to take down tougher opponents and make a better living.

Goals: To live life, eat food, sleep with girls and get by with no one telling him what to do.
Motivation: Enjoyment and having his family taken from him at such a young age made him despise any form of authority.

Spirit Guide: Wolf
Traits: Willpower - He will get up time and time again having appeared to be defeated
Strength - Physically and emotionally strong, making it almost impossible to break him even when tortured or manipulated with drugs

Fiddler

Age: 27

Status: Ronin

Appearance: Fiddler looks like he has spent a few years on the run. He has a few pieces of light armor remaining. A Jingasa with a few bits of mother-of-pearl inlay still on it. No heraldic devices on anything.
He's a young and fairly good-looking man in need of a shave and a couple of baths.
It's noteworthy that in place of a katana he has a well-worn kali-stick tucked through his belt.
anime samurai.jpg

Weapons: Dai-kyu, assorted arrows, Wakazashi, Kali stick, tanto

Natural Skills/Talents:

Sure footed - Maybe it's all that time on boats or training on sea-sprayed rocks, but Shiro never seems to lose his balance or footing. He walks across railings as easily as a flat road.
Zen Archery - Fiddler does his best when trusting that "the arrow knows the way" and seemingly trick shots come to him when he lets it
Hand-to-hand combat - Skilled at Jiu Jitsu.

Personality: Fairly easy going, but doesn't abide bullying. Stays as true to Bushido as praticle.

Background/History:

Akitaka Shiro was a loyal Samurai to the Danketsu family. The Danketsu ruled the Storm Isles for generations. Like all denizens of the Storm Isles Shiro learned to sail, swim and survive in a harsh ocean environment. The Storm Isles have a well-deserved name after all and are regularly ravaged by Typhoons. They breed a hardy folk that know what is here today may be gone tomorrow, so move on.

Shiro came from a Samurai family so while he learned all the lessons of a Storm Islander, he also learned the ways of Bushido. Being a pragmatic folk who spend a lot of time on boats the warcraft of the Danketsu family promoted use of unarmed combat and stick fighting. Generations of bushi learned that ship-based combat tended to be very close, and the risk of losing one's ancestral Katana was high. While Shiro was proficient in Jiu Jitsu and stick fighting, it was in using the Dai-kyu that he really showed his prowess. During a martial display for visiting dignitaries he was supposed to break clay jars thrown in the air to show his skill. Instead he chose to glance the arrows of them, making a high-pitched twanging noise with each strike. His lord was slightly perturbed until the Danketsu Matriarch commented that she had never heard such fine Kokyu music. Lord Henin then smiled and praised his "Fiddler", and so Shiro was called Fiddler from then on.

All was going well for the young Bushi until the covetous eye of the Fukushima Clan fell upon the Storm Isles. Fiddler was with a group of 10 samurai escorting an emissary to another mainland clan in search of aid when a surprise attack on the Danketsu family left him lordless. The Fukushima placed a puppet Danketsu on the family seat - a second cousin named Haka with no right to rule. When they were met on the coast by "Lord Haka" with a small contingent of Danketsu bushi bolstered by a larger contingent of Fukushima bushi the 10 were told to surrender their daisho and return under guard. With a quick glance shared around them they fell upon Lord Haka and his guard. The Fukushima they slew. The Danketsu - who were mainly un-blooded juveniles - they subdued. Lord Haka hid in his palanquin. When it was over the 10 broke their katana blades and sent them back to the Storm Isles with the unharmed Lord Haka and his disgraced retinue, with the message that they would not rest until the Fukushima were driven from the Isles.

Shortly after the 10 learned that Lord Haka had been killed, and the Fukushima put a price on their heads for their treachery. The 10 split up for their own safety after renewing their pledge to drive out the Fukushima.

That was 4 years ago.

Fiddler has learned that 7 of the 10 have been caught and executed.

That leave 3 to carry on.

Goals: Expose the truth about Lord Haka's murder by the Fukushima. Drive the Fukushima from the Storm Isles.

Motivation: Pretty much covered above, I think.

Spirit Guide: Sea Otter

Traits: Mischievous - Otters seem to be able to do just about anything when they're playing. When being light-hearted Fiddler accomplishes trick shots that sound like a fiddle being played, or beating brute-squads into submission with joint-locks and improvised weapons.

Vicious - sure they're cute, but never forget that an Otter is a predator. A small one. You don't survive unless you have the ability to do so.

Kikuchi Jun

Age; Nineteen

Status; Vagrant

Appearance;
LjS717P9_xMnjPFB_Tkdd5KrzUwBseQUGJkXRg3KknrlFNEb6vKhwF23uF7OPe19z-NcN9GSFxL-rryspZQallpuWBlt44Qfdg-PGigIl2O-f7pbw1ME2wlwdeKli9Fux3BjnqHH

A wooden peg fashioned to his right knee with an adjustable leather harness and semi-comfortable
pad obviously acts as a leg for Jun, after a childhood accident left him with nothing below the knee.

Weapons; A single katana he has no idea how to use, and a Yue he also has no knowledge of.

Natural Skills/Talents; Messy, unprofessional hand-to-hand combat that's a mish-mosh of different techniques and styles, as well as pickpocketing.

Personality; Rather indifferent, untrustworthy, clever, yet extremely patient and seemingly laid-back. Jun has never taken any prior interest in anything before now.

Background/History; Kikuchi Jun is no star pupil, nor has he ever had the inclination before now to assert a sort of martial artistry example-- in fact, Jun is your typical, run-of-the-mill street rat, a physical embodiment of the type of human society is encouraged not to be. The young man isn’t terrible per se, but he isn’t great either. Factually, he’s mostly morally gray (albeit, a pretty dark shade.) Jun in no way is above stealing, nor is he above manipulating people to get what he wants; however, killing and inflicting excessive amounts of pain unprovoked isn’t on his to-do list either. He’s a master of none, few things he’s ever encountered piquing his interest for more than twenty-four hours. The young man is very easily bored, and waltzes through life with a sort of infectious indifference that has hardly ever been quelled. It seems like a rather wasteful default, as his learning capabilities are hardly anything to be chuffed at-- Jun learns impressively quickly, and with this skill, he has picked up a few helpful abilities.

For one, having grown up in a grimy foster home, there was no way he was going to be trampled on by a bunch of fat little children. Jun ran away by the time he was ten, so he had to know how to hold himself up in a fight. He learned by observation, and from an old store owner who would tend to his wounds after a brawl, the geriatric becoming somewhat of a family member to him. Additionally, Jun was taught how to read by this man. In no way was it a particularly significant accomplishment, but it certainly did help him in understanding a random volume of a Chinese medical book he had stolen. Not only was Jun able to identify and treat certain illnesses he had not even known of before, but he gained an ample understanding of pressure points. Again, nothing on mastery level, but competent.

Since Jun had no knowledge of weapons (they seemed boring), he began to flourish in hand-to-hand combat and incapacitating those who could pick a fight by focusing on these pressure points he had learned about. As a naturally flexible individual, Jun often took the title of victor in the spats he was involved in-- this could also be thanks to his ‘handicap’. A few falling building supplies at the tender age of fourteen meant the loss of a leg for Jun, earning him the nickname of “Pegleg” among some fellow vagrants. This judgment usually meant a prompt ass-kicking for those who underestimated him, for Jun never felt as though it was a handicap at all-- deceit was always part of the win, anyway.

In his older years, Jun became tired of being... well, tired. Perhaps, Jun thought, he needed a challenge; so, he began gambling. At first, it was just a slightly amusing way to pass the time, but as he became acquainted with those who were regular attendees, the mischievous streak in him beckoned hell. One too many drinks later, Jun was running away with a stolen katana, some fancy Chinese weapon, and all the money he could carry. Yeah, there was a bounty.

Goals; To hopefully find a passion for something, and to quit being so bored

Motivation; The bounty, but mostly the lack of stimulation

Spirit Guide; Green Heron

Traits; Cunning-- Where a Heron lacks in its overall strength, they make up for it in their intelligence and strategic thinking, with a dash of deception.

Patient-- Green Herons are known to sit at the water's edge and wait for as long as they need until prey comes to the surface.

Junjii Ienaru

Age: 27
Status: Vagrant
Appearance:Junjii.jpg
Weapons: Wakizashi, tan, wooden shirasaya with the kanji for hope branded onto the handle.
Natural Skills/Talents: He's quick on his feet as well as agile a skill he kept from his childhood. To hear several yards away - nothing rediculously far.

Personality: Junjii hasn't always been the level headed and serene man that he is today. He was once a hot-headed and easily embarrassed individual. During his time with the Yamabushi he became forgiving and compassionate towards his fellow man, often putting other's wellbeing before his own. He's soft-spoken, believing that most situation's don't need many words. He has also mastered humility, never wanting to seem more important than he is, although he doesn't believe in his own importance much anyway.
Background/History:
At 11 Junjii and his father were drafted into the Mononobe clan. Junjii's father died during his first battle, leaving his child an orphaned and alone in the clan. Junjii began to train as hard as his pubescent body would allow, revenge gripping his heart. At fourteen he was given his first sword and sent to battle along side his fellow clans men. He proved to be an excellent and agile fighter due to his small childish figure. Junjii mastered the ability to use both the katana and wakazashi at the same time. Junjii's skills weren't contained to only swordsman ship. He also processed a seemingly otherworldly gift for hearing several yard, putting him at yet another advantage in battle. He could hear the creeping steps of men behind him, the click of a sword yards away and the whispers among his fellow men at night. The Suinin was impressed by his devotion to the clan, claiming Junjii as his own person hitokiri of sorts. Junjii, wild and idealistic gave himself willingly to the emperor. A mindless machine, killing any man who opposed or challenged Suinin. However his golden years of devotion to Emperor Suinin quickly came to an end during the battle of Shigisan. The clan was decimated, leaving only Junjii and a half-dozen other men alive to tell the tale of a clan soon forgotten.

All of the men stained by war and their past parted ways never to see each other again. Most of them are assumed to have commited suicide. Junjii wondered for nearly a year before finding his way into the Yari mountains and stumbling upon a group of ascetic hermit monks. The monks called themselfs Yamabushi. Junjii was drawn to the serenity of the men. The Priest of the village, Ryunn, allowed Junjii to stay on the condition that he devote the rest of his life to the yamabushi. So for the next seven years Junjii trained his mind, body and soul becoming a proficient warrior monk, much like he did during his years with the Mononoba. Learning to come to terms with his soiled past. Ryuun taught him to appreciate all manners of life. He was perfectly content with his training and simple way of life. But as most good things in life, they have to come to an end. The day he met Dato was the beginning of the end. Dato came to Ryunn to ask for his assistance in an up coming battle against another clan. Ryunn agreed, as the other clan stood to disturb all that the monks had been building in the mountains. Junjii disagreed with Ryunn. He didn't want to enter another battle and be apart of a blood soaked future. Ryuun took Junjii's words to heart but continued on with his plan to assist Dato. Junjii stayed behind.

Ryunn and many of his fellow monks perished during the battle. Once again leaving Junjii without a cause and his heart soaked in revenge. Junjii would eventually track down Dato and slay him in his home during the night. Junjii barely escaped the grounds, but Dato's adviser knew exactly whom he was, therefore placing a bounty on Junjii dead or alive. Junjii now, two years later drifts from place to place struggling with his faith and humility, trying to absolve himself of his sins, especially Dato's death. On his pilgrimage Junjii comes across Hatsu, a run away prostitute whom shares an unfortunate and familiar taste for revenge. Junjii allows her to travel with him for a short time, teaching her hand to hand combat and some skill with a sword. The two part away nearly a year later, having yet to find each other again.

Goals: To find wander all of Japan absolving himself of his past and the death of Dato.
Motivation: Helping those in need has been a big motivation for Junjii to continue his pilgrimage.

Spirit Guide: Fox
Traits: Loner: Much like the fox, Junjii tends to wander alone living a solitary lifestyle outside of the occasional job or temporary companion.
Adaptability: Foxes are able to adapt to nearly any climate and situation. Junjii has the same quality about him, never allowing himself to get too accustomed to one particular way.

Spider’s Eyes- Tachibana is very perceptive as if she had multiple eyes looking in multiple directions she can pick up on sudden movements. Yet this can also hinder a shot she is lining up meaning it can be used against her if she isn’t careful.

Nenma Takashi Nenma Takashi the only thing that doesn't seem realistic would be the spider's eyes. I've raised a few spiders on my own and have done my research on them. Spider's don't typically have great eyesight, they can make out very vague shapes that are close to them but overall they use the hair on their bodies to pick up vibrations in the air, as well as using their web to detect prey by following the vibrations of it. Most spiders have pretty poor eyesight and those that do not have poor eyesight (like jumping spiders) can only see up to a few feet infront of them. I'm not sure how this will effect your character but you can try thinking of another trait from the spider to use or a different guide all together, it's up to you.

I didn't know that cool, I decided to take a bit from what you just told me and changed it. Is the new trait any good?

Name: Havel Maewha

Age: 34

Status: Ronin

Extra details: Havel is very similar to the attached images with only minor differences. He has a beard but it isn't quite as full. His loose yukata is torn in several places from his skirmishes. The sleeves have been torn off because they were so damaged, there was practically no point in keeping them. It really completed the wanderer look.

As can be assumed, many scars decorate his skin. They range from burns to fatally deep sword cuts to things that appear to be animal bites.

Havel is a foreigner in this land. He was mostly raised there but has maintained his english accent from when he was a child and his piercing blue eyes send waves of ice into anyone who stares for too long. So he does not have asian characterstics but western ones (i.e. Strong jawline, almond eye shape, blue eyes, less pronounced cheek bones, etc.)

His kimono is a very faded grey and he tends to keep his hair loose until combat happens. Then he ties it up ( messy, unruly hair style reaching a little past his shoulders)

Equipment: Two 4 and a half foot katanas. His main weapon is the one that belonged to his master. The second one is the one belonging to late demonic lover. Oni Ittö-Ryū is engraved at the hilt of his master's blade and at the bottom of Lira's is the engraving of two letters.

LH

Abilities: Needless to say, Havel is a swordsman with little equal. His raw talent with bow and blade is what allowed him to survive the earlier stages of his life. A talent that was brought out to its fullest potential through combat and the personal training of his lord at the time.

An ability that wasn't to be trifled with became a force to be feared. If "The Gaijin" was on the battlefield, it meant a demon was present amongst men. A trail of blood and death was the only thing ever left in The Gaijin's wake.

The reason for this is because despite being mostly self-taught, Havel was taught by his master. A style know as the Oni Ittö-Ryū. The Demonic One-sword style.

Rather than literally becoming a demon, Havel was trained to enter a trance that has him fight like the demons of old. He sees every living being as nothing more than something to cut. He begins to hallucinate and these hallucinations take the form of lines. Glowing red lines that must be followed with his sword. People cease to be people and merely become numbers. Bob, Davis, Terry and Louis become 1, 2, 3, and 4. Mere numbers that need to be counted and his sword is the pencil.

When Havel enters this state, his eyes become terribly bloodshot. So much so, that his sclera becomes engulfed in red. The combination of red and ice blue is what makes him appear like a demon.

After having left his master's employ, Havel wandered as a ronin for approximately 7 years and perfected his original self taught style. Something he named after his master's style, despite everything. The Tsuki No Ittö-Ryū or Lunar One-Sword style. He enters a trance-like state of complete tranquility where his mind becomes silent and serene as a moonlit lake on a still, windless night. His senses become heightened to razor's edge and his perception of time even slows to some degree. It's as if everything becomes still for a single breath which allows Havel to land the decisive blow.

Weaknesses: Despite being on the intellectual side, Havel is actually illiterate. While this doesn't seem like much of a weakness, it becomes quite the barrier to understanding....almost everything. It all looks like chicken scrawl to him. Markings that make no sense at all.

The Oni Itö-Ryū is more than just a trance. Its so powerful that it has a passive effect on Havel. If he were to ever become irritated, annoyed, frustrated, or any similar emotion (anger, envy, etc.) He would feel the urge to cut down whatever it was causing his stress. He would have to crack his sword arm's wrist to relieve the pressure that builds up. Almost as if he was a cracking a whip. It is always a subconscious urge to give himself into the demonic style. To disconnect and succumb to those urges.

The Tsuki No Ittö-Ryū can end any fight in one decisive strike but that is all it is. A self taught style with a one hit wonder attack. It also requires a staggering amount of concentration and requires Havel to be in the proper state of mind to even reach the starting line. Despite being his own created style, Havel is twice as likely to fall back into his Demonic Single Sword style when his back is against the wall then use the final attack his own style.

If and when Havel uses The Oni Ittö-Ryū, it takes a tremendous amount of willpower to return back to his original state. Willpower and time. The Oni Ittö-Ryū makes one lose their sense of self and become a mindless being of slaughter that lives for nothing more than carnage and bloody satisfaction. This can manifest in many different ways. If the user were to have a lover it could even come out as maniacal possesiveness or sexual rage.

Weapons

Personality: Havel is not a man of many words. Even when he was a child, he never spoke much. This, by no means, makes him unsociable or a recluse from society. Quite the opposite actually. Havel enjoys small groups and exchanging stories with other ronin or travelers. He strongly dislikes crowds and is by no means quiet about the things that bother him.

Despite this, Havel is still rather quiet overall. Preferring to observe and react accordingly rather than try to talk his way out of situations. A man of action rather words.

That being said, Havel is the farthest thing from innocent you can get without being evil. Killing is like second nature to this man. Being trained in the art of war and even being thrust into battlefields at the tender age of 8, has turned him into a ice cold killer.

His memories from his time as a samurai plague his mind and the atrocities he committed in the name of his lord are a constant presence in his mind. Something that always reminds him that he is anything but innocent. That he has the blood of innocents and guilty alike on his hands.

Havel is not innocent and doesn't pretend to be but this vagrant knows he is far from evil as well. He has felt true evil. He has slain it with his blades and has even served it. Havel is rather patient and is capable of kindness. Trust is not something he has trouble giving and is always the first to give his respect to others.

Despite his choices, he still has a small sense of justice and a strange sense of honor. It used to be much greater but years of killing and battle have caused his morals to become terribly askew.

History/Bio: Havel was originally the son of two wealthy English parents who were traveling the world to enjoy the sights. Simple enough until their boat reached a land that was incredibly intolerant of foreigners. So much so, that their ship was ransacked and his parents murdered before his eyes at the age of 5. The young Havel would have joined them in the afterlife if it had not been for a young village girl, barely a woman herself, that took pity on blue-eyed foreign child and decided to stand up for his life.

She was beaten for her outcry but they eventually left it alone, killing a child seemed distasteful to the bandits. A mere two years passed but in that short time, Havel learned the language of the country and came to think of this girl as the older sister he never had. She worked hard by herself to keep them fed and clothed. Life was by no means easy and this young, responsible woman could never replace his parents but it was the only person he had.

Alas, this was in a feudal era and what was a feudal time period without feuds? The village Havel stayed at was caught in the crossfire between two feudal lords and there were no survivors other than Havel himself and that was attributed to dumb luck. The 7 year old child had picked up a sword far too big for him from a fallen samurai. He held it aloft with trembling arms in a desperate, defiant, pathetic attempt to protect his fatally wounded foster sister.

Little did he know, he stood fast against the feudal lord who would train him in the future. A lord that was looking for a disciple to pass his style on to. The disciple required a prerequisite and it was to look death, destruction, and despair in the eye and declare that you were going to take a piece of it with you to hell. The lord expected to find this disciple eventually if he continued raging wars across the country but certainly not in a 7 year old boy and certainly not a foreign child.

It took a lot of luck and moxie but Havel's defiance is what ultimately caused him to be the sole survivor of the crossfire.

The feudal lord took Havel to his domain and introduced him to a similar child that was two years older. A girl with golden eyes filled with hate and ashen hair. It appeared as though she had met a similar fate. The two were thrust into their first battlefield a year later as a test of who was worthy enough to become the disciple of the lord. Yet, to the Demon lord's surprise, both children survives the battle. The sickening, pleased grin that twisted th man's face was a true sight to behold.

Years passed and the two children became teenagers. Forged into adults before their time through the fires of war. Being of similar age and opposite genders, along with adrenaline fueled battle frenzy, a relationship between these two rose from the fires. What was initially curiosity became something more. There was no real emotion. Not at first. Just raw, unfiltered need.

As they became more battle-hardened, the feudal lord began to finally impart his techniques on the two young ones. It didnt take much for the two easily susceptible teens to get swept up in the evil urges of the Oni Ittö-Ryū. For a time, they flourished on the battlefield. They painted the hills and valleys red with the lifeblood of their lord's enemies. Their relationship developed from need to violent obsession with each other. They would sometimes arrive to meet with their feudal lord more injured by each other in their violent carnal satiation than the actual battles.

As time went on, it was clear that Havel was the better combatant of the two but the golden eyed girl, Lira, truly embraced the demonic teachings while Havel tried to push back every once in awhile. Not wanting to be completely dominated by these urges. A difficult task with someone like her in his bed every night.

There came a time the smoke of a battle had just finished and a enemy lord's family was brought before Havel and Lira. Their master ordered them to slaughter them to prevent a second uprising and the task would have been simple enough.....if the two children had been older. The older brother was shielding his younger sister with tears flooding his eyes and hatred in his heart. They couldnt have been older than 6 and 4 respectively. The same defiant look Havel had once given his own master. The same situation except he was now the one holding the blade that spelled the children's deaths. Lira dispatched the enemy lord and his wife and it was up to Havel to eliminate the children. For once, his mind had been cleared from the blood-fueled haze the demonic sword style caused and he saw things clearly.

Havel's feudal lord roared at him to end it and his body went through the movements instinctively. First, the brother and then the four year sister. Her cries over her brother's murder were cut short with one quick stroke. Rain poured down on the battlefield then, washing the blood off of Havel's body. His eyes snapped to the victorious lord and he did not hesitate. The ronin's blade whipped out like lightning only to come in contact with his master's own weapon.

He had been expecting this.

"I always knew you were going to be the true inheritor of the Oni Ittö-Ryū. Come son..."

"Make me proud."

A deadly, demonic dance ensued between master and student for an unknown amount of time before the student overcame the master.

In his final dying breath, blood gurgling in his throat, Havel's master smiled and gave Havel his sword. "You are the successor of my art. You are everything I could have wanted. Now go and spread ruin on the world." Lira, horrified over her master's death and envious of Havel being chosen over her flew into a crazed rage and yet another duel began. The soldiers looked on in confusion until Lira was felled. Havel's sword having been broken by the duel and having finished Lira off with her own blade. It was as if in that moment before her death, she understood why Havel was chosen.

"He...may have....chosen you. But don't you ever forget...."

You

Are

Mine

Those words have haunted the ronin to the present day. Seven years as a wandering ronin is a very long time for one to think about the atrocities they committed while under the influence of a style he now despises. A style that has literally taken everything from him, over and over and over again.

Goals: Die a death as close to honorable as he can receive.

Motivation: Read the history and tell me what person wouldn't be thinking "Fucking KMS"

Spirit Guide: None, as the man's spiritual side has been completely cut off by the indoctrination of his master's teachings.

Weapons: Katana, Wakizashi, Tanto, samurai armor
Natural Skills/Talents:
Sōjutsu~ The art of fighting with the spear
Kenjyutsu~ The art of fighting with a sword
Cavalry~ Capable of riding a horse
Personality: On the outlook he seems cold, distant… it’s not really the case.Itsuki is actually rather a friendly, polite, and broish type of person. He understands guys, and gets along with them fairly well. He is respectful of women, but he doesn't treat them any less, as many womanly figures in his life were pretty tough. He loves to drink and socialize with others, though, he does appreciate alone time, gives him time to meditate and reflect. Itsuki has learned patience, but he can be restless when things pick up. Itsuki can also be a capable leader who prefers to be at the front of any charge shouting war cries. Combat is something Itsuki finds mix joy and sadness in, as on one hand it is an art he is skilled at, on the other the life of another is likely to be forfeited.
Background/History: Itsuki was a son born to a family of samurai retainers loyal to a the Daimyo of the Haga clan. Itsuki mother died, leaving her husband to care for the child. Itsuki’s father was a samurai, part of their daimyo's personal guard. Growing up, he was raised by a combination of his father and those servants of the daimyo. When his father was not around, Itsuki was raised by the servants and other off duty guards, being treated as if he was one of their own. When his father was off duty, he spent time with his son teaching him all things in life; not just about combat and battle doctrines, but about literature, art, and history. Though, the most important thing his Itsuki’s father taught him was the bushido, the way of the samurai. But, Itsuki’s father was a compassionate man despite his profession, a man who truly believed in honor, loyalty, and justice for the world. As a result, such traits were thus instilled into the young boy, who aspired to be a samurai, a warrior that could protect his home and the people he loved.
When Itsuki became of age, he was allowed into the clan’s samurai core alongside many other young warriors. You see, a rival clan had invaded the Haga clan’s land with great numbers. The magnitude of the invasion forced the daimyo of the Haga clan to call for the mobilization of not just the all avaliable samurai of the land, but for the mobilization of a new kind of soldier; the ashigaru, the peasant soldiers. It was only through these harsh times could such bonds of brotherhood could be formed and mutual respect be achieved between all classes of soldiers. The role of the samurai was not only transformed from those of warriors, but those of leaders as well. A new generation of samurai were raised by the Haga clan, not just to become formidable warriors and heroes, but also capable officers that could rally the common foot soldier forward against the enemy of the Haga clan. Itsuki was no exception in these situations, growing stronger and wiser with each engagement, as he fought side by side with a brotherhood of samurai and regiments of loyal ashigaru foot soldier.
As years of war toiled on with no end yet in sight, Itsuki scarcely found the time to interact with his father. Itsuki’s father was needed now more than ever, as the life of their daimyo was at constant risk. But even so, there were times over the years that he and his father had an opportunity to fight side by side, father and son...even till the end for the father. It was during a siege battle did Itsuki’s father fall, who had been tasked with the job of planting the daimyo's banner at the top of the castle. Itsuki’s father had been the first to scale the walls of the fortress with the banner of their daimyo. But he was soon overwhelmed by the defenders before he could planetit, falling just as Itsuki and the other samurai had reached the top. Needless to say, it was a grim day for Itsuki, but it marked an important day. After his father had fallen, Itsuki had carried out the rest of his father’s mission, pushing through the defenders and planting the banner on top of the castle for all to see. After said siege battle, Itsuki was approached by the clan’s daimyo, who paid his respects to Itsuki’s father before speaking to Itsuki. The daimyo said that his father was one of the greater warriors he had known, and that he had served alongside him nearly a lifetime. But now that he was dead, there was a gap in his guard; a gap he had wished for Itsuki to fill. Itsuki would serve at the side of his clan’s daimyo, his primary job now was to serve as the daimyo's personal guard; however, he would be also given other tasks, such as relaying orders between the daimyo and commanders in the field or even personally leading a charge forward. It would have been a way to honor his father, so the young samurai agreed.
The war raged on for a few more years, reaching it’s climax at the Battle of Fujioji, but the tale was far from a glorious victory. The battle was said to have been a victory had it not been for the daimyo's youngest son, who not only withheld his forces from the battle, but turned them against his own father.
From Itsuki point, it was the greatest dishonor, but he had little time to consider it, as the traitors were descending upon the rear of the Haga clan’s army. Itsuki wanted to stay and protect his daimyo, but his daimyo had an order for Itsuki; he ordered him to relay to the commander of the left flank to begin with drawing his forces. Those orders were simple, yet those orders were also the last he every received from his daimyo. Perhaps it was faith that saved the young samurai that day, for if he had stayed with the rest of the guard he would have perished with all of them. Instead, as he rode back from relaying the message, he was struck from his horse by an arrow from a volley, before slamming into the ground. The chaos was the last thing he remembered before he lost conscious.
When he finally awake, he was in a peasant village, he found himself in a peasant's house. Further investigation revealed that he was within a peasant village. Wasn't long until the locals approached them, one particular man stepped forward, a man Itsuki recognized to be one of the many ashigaru. Itsuki didn’t know this particular man, all the interaction between at best were giving and receiving orders. But it turned out the ashigaru had saved the samurai from the battlefield. When asked why, the ashigaru honestly answered; it was because the samurai himself had unknowingly saved this man on a number of occasions. When the samurai had fell, the ashigaru broke rank and carried him during the routing of the Haga clan’s army. THe ashigaru brought him here, an unremarkable peasant village out of the way of the capital, in hopes to avoid the advance of the enemy's army onto the capital. Itsuki was speechless at the bravery of this one ashigaru, but then he other questions he had prompted him to speak.
It would seem the son’s treachery had been planned between him and the enemy clan. In return for backstabbing his own father, the youngest son would become daimyo of the Haga clan. When the capital was taken and his brothers slain, many of the samurai who had served the previous daimyo were given an option of either committing suicide or joining the new daimyo, but none of them were allowed to leave the control of the new daimyo. Many samurai choose the former option, only those who had families begrudgingly accepted the latter option. The daimyo then decreed a manhunt for any samurai who would not pledged himself to the new daimyo to be brought to the courts of the new daimyo, where they would be presented with the same option.
Now, Itsuki was presented with some hard options of his own. Itsuki refused to serve this new daimyo, that part was for sure, but that effectively made him a ronin. The bushido code he had lived by demanded that he avenge his former daimyo, yet he had nothing, so any attempts on the new daimyo’s life would only end in futility, and while death was something a samurai sought, a foolish one was no different then suicide. So Itsuki reasoned this: He would leave the province and wait until these events became distant memories. In the meantime, he would become stronger and wiser, returning one day to claim the head of the new daimyo.
When Itsuki was healthy enough, he packed up what little he had, thanked the little village for nursing him back to health, and bid them farewell. But Itsuki hadn’t taken that many steps out of the village before he heard footsteps behind him, turning to surprised once again by the ashigaru that saved him, who was running after him wearing the armor and colors of the old Haga clan. It would seem said ashigaru did not wish to see the newly turned ronin wander the world alone, and insisted on coming with him as a way to repay the number of times Itsuki had saved him. It took a few minutes of arguing between the two, Itsuki reluctantly agreed. Though, secretly Itsuki was grateful, he would not have to walk this world alone.
So, the two set off, eventually escaping the province of the new Haga clan and into the vast world.
Goals: To perhaps someday avenge his former daimyo from the treachery of the daimyo’s son. To fight for those who could not fight for themselves, and to see justice done.
Motivation: (for those goals)
The way of the bushido compels him to avenge his master. His father was the one that had compelled him to be principled and selfless.

Improvised Combat - To make up for it, Menma has a noticeably dirty fighting style where he uses anything and everything to keep the upper hand. Ranging from feints to using multiple tools to confuse his opponent.

Personality:
Happy go lucky, friendly and a touch of snarkiness, Menma is a generally sociable person and can be found chatting or even gossiping with the common folk. He also has a definite soft spot for children and would usually give them sweets or fruit if he has any to spare. Menma can also be described as devious and hard to read, a holdover from his training as a Banken tracker and interrogator. But he only lets his enemies see that side of him. Mostly.

Background/History:
Menma, the wandering Ronin. Not much is known about him and the stories people has heard of him varies by location and even visits. He even said it himself, "I prefer to have multiple pasts as it makes a simple man like myself seem interesting." Even his name is but a fake due to his habit of carrying around a bamboo pole on which he ties his small bag and the occasional dried fish to. But even with all the different stories, a few points remain constant.

Menma was raised from childhood to be a member of the Banken. An elite police and assassination unit for a powerful Daimyo. Ever since he was a young teen, he became known as one of the best trackers within the Banken and tracked down multiple infamous bandits and Ronin for capture. He was even given the not so flattering title of "Sniffing Dog". Other than his tracking skills, he's also a competent trapmaster and planner with his improved ambush tactics still being used by older members despite its removal after his defection from the group. A surprising advantage given that's how he was able to evade the infamous Banken.

Many had debated the reasons for defecting and painting a very obvious target on himself by doing so with the murder of his former Captain. Many argued that it was a power grab gone wrong, the young Menma was known to be very vocal about his aims to be Captain after all. But a similar number of people argued that his Captain's order to torch the village for the simple crime of not paying taxes is going overboard. Menma himself is tight lipped on his reasons but he believes that he was simply doing the right thing.

Goals:
-To fix the unfair system.
-To give the peasants a safe and bountiful life.

Motivation:
As a former member of the Banken, Menma has done many things. Good, debatable, and downright evil things. He used to brush it off as it being needed for the greater good but he became disillusioned after being ordered to burn down a village after they protested their unfair treatment.

Personality: In a harsh world, Rioko is quite a tough gal with a motherly personality. She does her best to live life by smiling bright and being kind to others unless otherwise. Aside from being kind hearted, in battle she is quite ruthless and tends to finish her enemies as quick as possible. She can be quite a tease and a flirt if something is necessary to get what she needs.

Background/History: Rioko doesn't quite know of her past when she lived with her parents. Everything was a blur. The only thing she could remember was crying alone in the rain covered in some wounds and blood under a Sakura tree. Not soon after did a man appear dressed in black with piercing gray eyes. He took her in where he trained and disciplined her as payment to stay under his roof. Rioko did do some complaints here there from time to time but that managed to die out easily after some threats about throwing her out to the wolves, selling her for money as a prostitute or bandits.

Eight years have passed since then, yet Rioko continued to struggle with her combat skills even though she was indeed a great pupil who managed to slay animals and some weak level thieves. Her master, Angel, always told her she wasn't ready for the world and had much to learn even though Angel was one of the greatest swordsman in his village. Outraged, Rioko ran off to prove herself by fighting a group of bandits who have been harming people throughout the country. She fought valiantly until her last victim entered the woods where she blindly follows only to end up ambushed and tricked by her prey where he slashes both her eyes out leaving a huge scar across her face. She looks around after the attack desperately and scared, searching for her katana only hearing the man's snickering as he slowly approaches her pulling her hair up. Instinctively Rioko kicked everywhere struggling to break free but her attempts failing miserably. The only thing she could hear was his constant blabbering about how he's going to enjoy avenging his gang and slitting a pretty woman's neck. Not long after the blade slightly touched her skin, the man's laughter went dead silent as if cut off. Next she felt a man hug her and pull her in close realizing it was her sensei Angel. Now weeping in his embrace apologizing, she was let go and a cold voice spoke to her asking to next time listen when she's ready. That day caused her to pay the price. The price being her sight.

Three years later, Rioko had been training in the woods learning to heighten her senses and become one with nature and the objects around her. She became more graceful and appreciative towards everything even after she struggled with accepting being blind. Her vision felt more clear carrying wisdom and feeling new to the world as if reborn. Though her childhood was still a blur it was something she wanted to find for herself so she set off on a journey with permission from her Sensei whom agreed knowing she was ready to see the world. Sort of.

Another two years pass and no sign of anyone who knew her past. The only clue being the Sakura tree she was under. She entered her sensei's home to find it wrecked and covered in blood and bodies; one being her sensei Angel. Heartbroken, Rioko fell to her knees and mourned the loss of her dearest guardian touching and recalling his features from the past. When she reaches for his hand she finds it clenched with a note inside stained with blood containing a message she could not read so she went into town finding the first person she could find and read out loud to her. The message being, "Catch me if you dare." Distraught and angry, Rioko began another search to avenge her master.

Rioko Suzuki

Age: 23
Status: Ronnin
Appearance:View attachment 335744
Weapons: Double Katanas with a chain at the end of them, dagger
Natural Skills/Talents: She has incredible, hightened senses, due to her being blind, She is able to know when a person tells a lie by the listening to their heart beat as well as being able to hear from afar, The clinging of her chain from her sword allows her see for a moment or at least picture where the attack will go next

Goals: Avenge her guardian, to find out who she is and her family's whereabouts.
Motivation: Death of her guardian and possibly family

Spirit Guide: Stag
Traits: Patient- She is very patient with any creature being animal or human or when learning a new trick or move. Patience allows her make the right decisions before acting on them. Like a dear listening carefully for even the slightest of noise

Divine- Like stags, they give out a very calm and trusting aura and anything positive which is what makes everyone feel safe around Rioko (though her charms can stab you in the back)

Appearance:

Weapons: Su yari, tanto
Natural Skills/Talents:
Sōjutsu- The art of fighting with a spear
Farmer- Knowledged in agriculture and various laborer tasks, as well as posses great strength to carry out such tasks.
Personality: Ochi is a really upbeat lad, always such an optimist in even the worse of situations. Yet, Ochi understands when things get serious, and thus will change his tone accordingly. Hard work is a big thing that Ochi values, but what he values even more is community, never one to shy away from his part in contributing to the well being of a group. He cares for his people like an uncle, loves to feed people like his mother, but more importantly will fight for them. Always ready to lend a hand against even the most daunting and tedious of tasks, weather that be grueling farm work or the grittiness of the battlefield, Ochi is always ready to face any challenge with the utmost diligence and courage.
Background/History: Ochi didn’t grow up with much, but what he did grow up was a loving community. Ochi was the eldest son of two, raised by a large extended family of farmers in a community that looked out for each other. Ochi grew up a farm hand, working hard in the fields with his family to make a living, but it wasn't all that bad. Yes, Ochi and his family were relatively poor, but they were rich in their bonds. THe people around Ochi taught him many valuable lessons on hard work, community, and even fun.
For a time, this was his life, and Ochi was relatively happy with it, but then invaders came to their land, the lands of the Haga Clan. As there was not enough samurai to fight them all off, it was now time for the peasants to take up arms to defend their homes.
Ochi, some of the other boys and men in the village, were drafted into the ranks of the ashigaru to help stave off the invaders. Ochi was placed into a unit of yari armed ashigaru, and was trained accordingly in the art of the yari. Their training wasn’t extensive, but these men were need at the front, and so that was where they were sent. THe fighting was gruesome, but the lessons that Ochi learned about community, brotherhood, kept his unit together and fighting even amongst the chaos of the battlefield. But Ochi was not a warrior by trade, only becoming proficient through the experience on the battlefield. Many time he would have fallen, if it had not been for the samurai, who would intervene the moment of the fatal blow. For whatever the reason, it was the same samurai, but not once had the two directly interacted outside of giving and receiving orders.
Years went of war went by, as more and more men were sent to the after world, many people who had once joined him at the beginning of this conflict were lost, leaving him at times drifting between regiment to regiment. But the war came to a head at the Betrayal at Fujioji(as it was later called) where the youngest son of the Haga’s clan Daimyo turned on his own kin, causing a disastrous defeat for the forces of the Haga clan. Ochi and his regiment were on the left flank of the battle when the same samurai that had saved Ochi on many occasions rode up to holler orders at Ochi’s commanding officer, before he quickly spurred his horse back in the direction he came. Unfortunately, the samurai did not get far before he was shot out from his seat by an arrow. It was then, Ochi did something he had never done: He broke rank. Perhaps a part of Ochi couldn’t let this samurai die after what he had did for him, whatever the reason he threw his arms down and b-lined for the fallen samurai. Without second thought, Ochi quickly hoisted the samurai onto his back, and then began to run. Ochi’s brain could have been said to have went into auto drive, he was no longer thinking as he ran, as men were fleeing around him, yelling. Ochi didn’t know how long he ran, perhaps hours, perhaps an entire night. Whatever the reason, whatever the time, he would finally collapse in front of the doorsteps of his village, where the villagers quickly took him in.
Ochi was able to recover relatively quickly, having sustain any real injuries, but the samurai took a few more days to heal. In the meantime, word arrived of the new Daimyo and his hunt for the samurai who have not pledged themselves to him. The samurai, whose name was Itsuki, woke up not long after the news had arrived and was told the same thing. The samurai took some time to consider, before he settled on leaving the province, alone. Ochi, who still felt that he owed the samurai a great deal, and as a result could not let this samurai, now ronin, travel alone.
It took some convincing and insisting for the now ronin to let Ochi accompany him. The two would escape the province of the new ahaha clan and into the wider world.
Goals: To accompany Itsuki through the world. To provide for others and protect others.
Motivation: Itsuki has saved Ochi’s life on a number of occasions, albeit unknowingly, so Ochi feels compelled to repay the ronin. All his life Ochi has lived in a community, though he has now left it, he still has the mindset of a community.
Spirit Guide: Bee
Traits: (Pick up to 2, keep these realistic)
Endurance- Bee’s have an incredible amount of endurance when it comes to virtually anything to do, from flying to carrying objects. Ochi is no different, whether it be heavy hauling goods for long periods of time, running over long distance, or staying in a prolonged fight, Ochi can always give it his all.
Community~ A bee is strong when it is in numbers. Ochi is emboldened and strengthened when he is fighting besides a community or another person that gives him purpose, the more people there are the stronger he gets. However, in turn he is not as effective fighting alone.
