He scoffed a bit before speaking again.

"You know uncle I remember you being way more talkative than this. What happened? Why are you such a bum now.." Declan's voice faded off into disappointment. He glanced up through his hair.

He was one to talk. Declan had an awfully hard time communicating with someone unless he was angry.

That last comment hit like a punch to the gut. It also struck a nerve. Glen stood up, so fast and so suddenly that the chair he was sitting on fell over. His hands slammed onto the table, and in his voice he practically seethed. "Now you listen to me, you little..."

Declan jumped back a bit. He looked up at his uncle full of anger. It scared him a bit because no one had ever gotten that kind of mad at him.

"D-Don't worry I don't even want to be here." He looked away and hid his face behind his hair.

"All I see when I look at you is my mom." You could hear the tears building up in his voice.

Glen froze, the anger in his body contorting into a strange new mixture of horror and regret. This kid was his nephew, the only one he had now, and his mother...his sister.

"Oh god," he whispered, stepping back from the table. "Oh god, I'm so sorry..."

He turned and rushed for the door, making sure to grab his jacket on the way out.

The door closing echoed in his head a bit as he sat in complete silence.

"I'm bad luck anyway. You'll probably die on me too." Declan muttered to himself viciously.

He stood up and dragged himself to the hot sweaty room and pulled out his things and began fixing it up.

"What now mom, what now..." Declan fell back onto the futon and stared up at the ceiling.
