Life in a Band

"But... What if they laugh at me?" Mir confided. Her lips drew into a thin line, worry evident on her porcelain face. Running her delicate fingers over the fresh bruise on her cheek, she sighed slowly. Holding onto her bass for comfort, she brought the neck of the instrument to her cheek to cradle like a child might hold a teddy bear.

Insecurity was more evident than worry. Her posture said it all: Mir was was trying to make herself smaller and less noticeable for fear of rejection. Her ideas were never good enough, hence why she never showed any of her own material to the band. She had felt more confident with Abby, knowing that she wouldn't be mean. There were others in the band that she weren't so sure about. Not everyone seemed to have taken a liking to her. It hurt, to say the very least. It made her feel unwanted and unneeded and like she was never enough.

Sam laughed at Jake, "Yeah you're probably right." She joked, as she received a paper, but was too busy letting to of Jake's hand to run up to her drum set. She sat on her swirly seat, smiling as she now took the time to look over the paper. "I like it, it's very unique, as most of your compositions." She proclaimed, as she twirled her sticks through her fingers. She tapped a quiet beat on her snare drums and looked around the room. Her deep brown eyes caught onto Mir, and gave a smile. "Hey Mir!" She called over to the spunky girl. Sam placed her sticks on the drums and yawned as she looked around once again.

Lucas watched as everyone broke into their own little conversation."Hey can I see that sheet."he said as he took it and looked at it."Hey guys can I get a recording of the song, please? If you guys don't mind."he asked as he sat down in one of the rolling chairs in front of the sound booth. He looked over at Spencer who was looking at him and smiled at her then turned his head back t where it was at first.

As soon as Spencer noticed Lucas look at her, her eyes widened and she snapped her head back to look at her music. 'S**t S**t S**t!' She thought to herself as her cheeks turned red. That color melted down her face, and now she was blushing like a cherry. Usually, she would never act like this, but come on. Any girl gets excited when their crush looks at them. It made her think of her middle school days. Making code-names for guys, and squealing every time they walked by. Ew. To think she was ever that girly made her want to puke, but then again, sometimes she just wanted to be a princess. But that was rare. And I mean rare. Now Spencer's day was basically made. She had a sudden boost of energy, and was pretty happy. But she didn't dare look back at Lucas. That would be a pretty dead give-away.

Abby looked at Mir. She felt bad. She had such little confidence in herself sometimes. She knew it was sometimes hard for Mir. Afterall she was sorta the outcast in the band but she was definitely talented and that's all that matters. She was about to tell Mir how they won't laugh and they will love it when she then heard Lucas ask them to do a recording. "Oh crap." Abby realizing she hadn't even looked at the song that Nate had hadn't her took it out and looked it over. It was pretty good. Abby then stood up and made her way over to the center Mic, her mic. She smiled and stood in front. Looking over the song as she waited for everyone to get in their poistions.

Jacob watched as Sammy happily ran over to her drum set. He thought it was so freakin cool that his girlfriend could play drums. It was honestly hotter than dating some cheerleader. He then heard Lucas ask them to do a recording. He grabbed his guitar which was exactly where he left it. He had a few of them this one was black and had gold frets. It was not his favorite one just his practice one. He had a few smashed guitars that he had smashed at the end of some gigs just for fun.His favorite guitar however was given to him by his dad. It is black and has his name written in Cursive gold underneath the strings. Jacob walked over to poistion and got ready to record.

Mir looked up at Sam and waved shyly, keeping her gaze lowered to the floor. Sam seemed to like her enough, which was more than she could say for the other band members. Taking a deep breath, she squeaked when Lucas took the paper from her. "Dude, no, wait--" she protested, but it was too late. He was demanding them to get a recording started.

Her entire body went rigid as she stood with her bass around her shoulders. Walking over to her mic, she tuned her bass quickly. A few gallops and she was ready to go. Glancing over her shoulder at Jacob, she tried to smile politely. It was a pathetic attempt, but an attempt nonetheless. Holding onto her bass for dear life, she looked over the song and tried to find places she could add some screams or more intricate bass patterns. Looking towards the sofa, she saw her own pieces of paper abandoned. Just like her. Sighing, she let her shoulders slump and waited for everyone to get ready and give the signal.

Sam was busy looking at her drums when Lucas asked for a recording, she nodded, sitting up right in her seat and waited for the go signal for her to start the beat. She went over the sheet once more before she pushed her hair out if her face, fixing her hat, and yawned a little. She rested her elbow on her knee and looked over at Jake. She felt herself blush as she peeled her eyes away from him, and to his beautiful guitar. She knew how much that he loved his guitar, especially the one that his dad had given him. Out of the oblivion of complete randomness, she busted out the beat for Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi. She smiled at herself as she continued to play, and then stopped when she realized that they would be recording soon.

Abby looked around to see if everyone was in poistion before giving their signal to start. "Ok everybody on 3" She yelled into the mic. "A 1!...2!...3!" Abby then began to sing the song with passion. The sound of her band members music playing in somewhat perfectly melody. That was pretty good for their first run through. Abby continued to belt out the song. She was stiff tho. She only moved some. She knew Chloe would be angry with her because of this but she wasn't really sure what to do but sing.

Jake smiled back at Mir. She was the bass but she could play the guitar parts just as well as she could. When Abby finally gave the signal Jacob began to play. He came when it was time and stopped when he needed to. His fingers gliding across the guitar with grace. He was rocking out but really just following the beat. He was so in the moment that everything around him seem to just stop in time. It was the best feeling in the world and he often felt it when playing his guitar.

Samantha hit on her drums, keeping the beat steady, using the bass drum, and snare. She smiled as the rhythm moved in her, and her eyes fell on Jake. He looked so happy, which made her happy, and made her day. She moved her head back and forth, along with her wrists and her arms. She coughed a little, but kept beat. The sticks moved up and down the worn drums, and the classic sound tumbled in.He ears. She had a five measure rest, which she pushed her hair into a ponytail, and went back to playing when her rest was done.

Mir let her fingers slide over the strings, her eyes slipping shut. They only opened to look at the lyrics from time to time. Her voice mixed perfectly with Abby's; her own was a lovely, full, jazzy high alto to mix with Abby's. Her fingers moved, swinging to rhythm. Her work as a bassist was near perfect, making the rest of the band work smoothly. As a rhythm keeper, it was important that she was perfect. It was too much pressure, but she didn't feel it when she played.

When she played, her body relaxed and her eyes slipped shut. She jumped and swung her long, unruly hair to the beat and waited until there was a break in the music to scream her heart out. The sound was soul-ripping, something that no one would ever expect to come out of a five-foot-four frame. Her entire body shook with the force of her scream. When she stopped, she hadn't missed a single beat.

(I've been sick...And still kind of am. Sorry for holding us up.)

Spencer's hands fell lightly onto the keyboard as the band started. Her fingers moved elegantly across the keys in swift motions. Sooner or later, she found her body swaying to the music, her head bobbing along. She played with passion, as most of the musicians here did. She held out the chords in perfect harmony, not missing a single note. Everything was in tune. Her keyboard, her mind, her body. Everything. She played along with the band almost perfectly until the song was over.

Mir was astonished every single time at the art they could create together. The rhythm section wailed and revved, keeping perfect 4/4 time. The guitar was just on the side of a classical sound, and both the vocals harmonized well the the keyboard accompaniment. Taking another deep breath, she stepped away from her microphone and screamed again for the hell of it. "Kill the F*CKING lights!"

Grinning a little bit at the way the song ended with such a punk flourish, she looked behind her to fellow band mates and waited to see what they thought of the song that had been composed for them. Personally, she thought the middle-eight could've been a little bit better-- heavier. The softer musicians in the band might not, however. It was a tricky thing, their harmony on music. It had always been and always would be. Mir wouldn't have it any other way.

Lucas smiled and listened to the guys record the song that was on the sheet. He thought about some things that needed to be fixed but, other than that everything else was great! He laughed at what Mir said then clapped"Good first try guys! That was awesome.Mir love the ending!Only a bit more practice and this song will be a hit.Take five everyone."he concluded then went through a folder of paperwork that was needed to be done and looked at.He took a pen and wrote down a couple of things and focused hard on trying to get everything ready for the band next week.

Sam had barely heard Lucas over the scream from Mir that was still ringing in her ears. She then heard Lucas compliment them about their song. "Thanks Lucas." She thanked over the notes of a few instrments continue to ring out in the air. She flipped her snapback back on, and hopped down from the seat that she had been sitting in. Sam walked past Jake, brushed her hand against his hand before she walked into the bathroom. She finished, soon walking back towards the group with a smile on her face, a pair of drumsticks that were stuck in her back pocket, and her boyfriend coming in sight.

Abby smiled when he said they did a great job. She was extremely excited about the song. Just then she had a great idea. She spoke loudly in the mic and faced everyone. "Hey guys! Mir wrote a great song! I think we should test it out. What do you think?" She scanned everyone's faces. Shr knew Mir would probably be angry with her for doing this but she would thank her in the long run. She then turned to face Lucas. "That is if it's ok with you." She said to him.

Jake smiled at his amazingly hot girlfriend when she came walking towards him. He shook his head he still couldn't believe she was his girlfriend. He felt so lucky. It took him awhile to get her to want to go on a date with him and now they were rarely ever away from each other. He then turned when he heard his sister start to speak in the mic. She was saying something about Mir writing a song. "Really? Yea I'm down for that." He said looking over at Mir. She hadn't said anything yet. He smiled at her.

Mir's face turned red, the adrenaline completely sapped from her body. Her knees began to shake and she shrugged. "I mean, we don't have to if you guys don't want to. It's really not that great." Trying not to stutter like an idiot in front of her band, she shrugged her shoulders again nonchalantly. Taking a deep, shaky breath, Mir bit her tongue and looked over at Abby. She wasn't angry, just excruciatingly anxious. If anyone laughed, she was sure she would die on the spot.

Sam continued walking back, slowing down as she got to where Jake was at. "Good job hot stuff." She smirked before placing a tiny kiss on his cheek. "Yeah! Go Mir!!" She agreed, now standing behind Jake, wrapping her arms through his and clasping them on his stomach. Sam let her head rest on his shoulder as she waited to hear Mir play or sing. She knew trust Mir was a great player, singer and songwriter. She enjoyed having Mir as a bandmate; she brought a whole new element that not even words could describe.
