She had a few classes in the morning, which she planned on only attending half of so she wouldn't miss her afternoon shift where she worked, and not to mention she had a meeting shortly after her shift that was miles away from where she got off work, and she had a short time to get there. She was in for another hectic day, as usual, but today was even more troublesome. The redhead had slept in, after having forgotten to set her alarm the previous night, and as a result, she already missed her first class.
Her schedule was going haywire but she was determined to stick to it as best as possible, and that meant not skipping out on her morning breakfast coffee at Starbucks. It was a few minutes walk away from where she took her classes which was why she stopped the cab there every day, but today she was in a rush.
Hopping out of the cab after blindly paying him, she ran indoors, clutching her coat and bag, along with a few books too. Luckily for her, the line was short so she quickly made her way to stand behind the two people already there. Analeigh's foot tapped anxiously against the tiled floor. She'd never been so late before. She had deemed it impossible and unacceptable. And yet, here she was.
Finally, in a few moments, she had arrived at the front and ordered her latte. As they began making it, she dug around in her bag for her wallet.
Her small hand felt around and found chocolate wrappers, pencils, a charger and a - ouch - sharpener, but no wallet.
Oh no...
After having blindly paid the cabbie, she must have forgotten to take her wallet from the car seat!
"Oh no no no..." She whined before looking to the barista who donned a confused expression.
"I, uh... I don't have any money with me." Could it have been any worse?
Old gypsy woman spoke to me, said, "You're a wolf, boy, get out of this town."
Ah, mornings. They were simply the worst time in the world for Erza. Especially this morning, when he rolled off his bed onto the floor in a lump of blankets and his pillow wrapped in his arms. His long, dark hair was a mess and his eyes were baggy and had dark outlines. It didn't exactly help that he'd only gotten four hours of sleep last night, coming home at 5 am to his homey one bedroom apartment. It was one of those rare nights when Erza came home alone, so he enjoyed what little sleep he had all the better without having to tell a girl to leave so early in the morning.
A loud grunt came from the heap of Erza on the floor and he freed himself from the confines of the blanket covering him, revealing that he'd slept with all his clothes on. With a light yawn, he pulled himself off the floor. The first thing he did was saunter out of his room and into the bathroom, where he did his daily routine of brushing his teeth and washing his face- he had to keep a pretty complexion for the ladies. After he finished that, he removed all of his clothes and stepped into the shower. He washed his hair and vigorously washed his body. When he was don't that, he turned off the shower and wrapped himself in a towel and headed over to his room. He dried off and got dressed. He wore a pair of khaki pants, a dark grey shirt and a army green Adidas hoodie his mother bought him so many years ago. On his feet, he wore a pair of black Adidas slip on sandals.
It was mornings like this that Erza enjoyed a nice breath of fresh air and a good cup of Joe from his favorite coffee shop. He made sure to have his wallet and his cellphone before he made his way out of his apartment.
"Oh dear god, it's hot outside." He muttered under his breath as he made his way out of his apartment and onto the city streets.
He walked his way to the starbucks just down the street from his home and found himself standing in line behind a pretty red-head who seemed to be on a mission of sorts. He assumed that she was late for something with the way she carried herself, but he paid no real attention to that. He found his eyes sliding down her back but he stopped himself as he stepped forward when she moved to the counter.
It wasn't often that Erza did very many nice things for people and it was usually to put himself in a favorable position. In this case, it was just because he didn't want to wait any longer to get his Iced Coffee and it seemed that the girl had forgotten her wallet, or something of the sort and her drink had already been made.
"Hey Clarissa, just put my usual on the bill and I'll pay for both of them." He piped in from behind the red head.
Stepping around her, he pulled his wallet from his pocket and handed the girl at the front cash a twenty dollar bill as she ran to go make his Iced Coffee. He knew Clarissa from school, they took some of the same classes. He was sure she'd been eyeing him up before, but he never found any interest in a girl who looked so plain.
Annaleigh heard a male voice from behind her and turned around almost immediately, just as the barista had been about to say something.
She expected nothing less being told off for wasting not just valuable time, but also of resources. She worked. She took Economics. She knew all about resoursces and scarcity and she had basically just wasted a lot of it by having forgotten her wallet in the cab. She couldn't have felt more worse, till of course she heard that someone was offering to pay for her drink.
She felt grateful, she did. It had just been a while since she had really let anyone pay for anything for her. Having two parents who were business driven, she had always strived not just for excellence, but independence. She'd never allowed her parents to buy her anything -- not that they really offered much. Her mother often had, prompting her to buy dresses and make up and go out fo parties. But for some reason, Annaleigh had almost always looked up to her father, blunt as he may be. He always straight up told her that if she wanted something she should do something about it herself. And that's basically what she had been doing these past few years, rather than what other women her age were doing.
Annaleigh's mouth opened to say something but no words came out. She heard a cough and turned to see the barista, holding out her cup for her after having taken the money the guy had just given her. She seemed to have a look of annoyance on her face, though why, Annaleigh had no idea.
Deciding it was none of her business, she reached uour and took the cup of coffee before turning to the dark haired male, attempting a smile.
"Thanks." She said, moving out of the way slightly so as to allow other poeple to come up front and place their order. "I'm not usually so forgetful." She explained, referring to her wallet and money. She made a mental note to try and track the cab down later on when she got the time.
She glanced at her watch and saw that she was already pretty late for her class, so there was no point in going for it now. She could go in time for the next one and enjoy her coffee leisurely.
She looked up from her watch and at the giy in front of her. "I'm Annaleigh, by the way. And I owe you." She added with a small chuckle, reaching out her free hand toward him.
Old gypsy woman spoke to me, said, "You're a wolf, boy, get out of this town."
Erza shrugged his shoulders as he received a thanks from the red head, "No problem. I'm Erza, a pleasure to meet you." He said, taking her extended hand and shaking it.
He thought for a moment if he should ask if she wanted to sit down and have a conversation with him but than he fought against it, shaking his head. Though picking a girl up at a coffee shop would of been one hell of a story to tell his best friend, he wanted to enjoy his morning and that meant he would go home, flop onto his couch and enjoy some Netflix.
The vibration of his phone tore him from his thoughts and he pulled it out his pocket just as the cashier came with his ice coffee. He flashed the girl a smile and stepped out of the line, taking a quick sip while he looked at the message on the screen of his phone. It was Charlie, his best friend. The text had told him to meet Charlie and his girlfriend at a restaurant they frequented and that Erza should bring somebody to make it a double date. Erza knew that it wasn't actually Charlie inviting him, it was his girlfriend. He knew the girl was intent on finding a way to make Erza settle down.
He pursed his lips into a tight line and glanced around, his eyes settling on the red head again. She did just say she owed him one.
"Do you want to repay your debt to me right now?" He asked, shoving his phone back into his pocket. "A friend of mine asked me to bring a girl on a date and since I don't know any nice girls, would you care to join me."
Annaleigh let her hand fall back to her side once he shook it in greeting. Thsmall smile never left. Her face because she was still pretty grateful.
Not to mention he's incredibky cute, she told herself in her mind. It wasn't every day a cute guy offered to get her her drink. It wasn't every day that any guy offered to get her her drink actually, because she usually never left that open to them. As always, she did things herself. She was realising that once in a while, it was nice to have someone take care of something for her. She was afraid though, that she may get used to that sort of behaviour, and quickly told herself that this was a one time thing.
Noddeing as Erza turned to check his phone, she puled ut her own, checking the time before checking her emails -- something she had to do at least once every hour. It had become an obsessive habit lately because there were a kot more emails now than there were when she had originally made the accont, at thirteen.
She decided that since she hadn't gone to her class yet, she could make an exception and wait to answer some of her emails later, instead, she had intended to ask Erza to accompany her till the two of them finished their drinks, and just as she turned to face him, he was asking her a question.
"A date?" She echoed. How long has it been since I went on one of those?
"I- uh, sure." She nodded, grinning. Why not give herself a break for once? "Yeah, I'd be happy to go." she told him, taking a sip of her coffee. "Just for the record thiugh, it's not only because I owe you."
