LAST person to post is the winner!!!

lol this was a question that I commented on a couple of days back in the daily question thread. Think I'll just be reiterating what I said about it back then.

People push for home schooling but actually it's the society and the system that should change to adapt to it's current generation of kids. Otherwise you have parents who are then forced to put their own lives on hold to fully educate and school their children to conform to society.

Alright. One thing I really really hate about the school system is the fact that it's still based on an ideology from the freaking industrial era. There's been a few changes here and there, but it hasn't truly evolved for our modern times. And that ideology's goal is to make factory workers and suppress creativity. It's something not a lot of people really talk about, and it really frustrates me.
it certainly frustrates many people, especially students... but they don't really consider what happens as we grow... theres more problems with kids nowadays anyways, this just adds onto it
It was fine during the industrial era, but we aren't in that era anymore. The system needs to be updated. And you can see this in action. Kids have to wake up really early in the morning, sometimes even 6 AM. At the end of each class, a bell rings. Students have to line up, etc. This is all from this ideology, it's the whole purpose is to create obedient factory workers. Now, there has been some changes to improve this, but overall, it's still a problem.
it's literally just control, I agree

yeah... I've never experienced homeschooling, but im positive my parents could teach me more than these schools can...

rare kind of compliment for your parents there lol

But the point is that society requires you to be educated to a certain level in order to be a part of it, so they have the responsibility to provide said education and not throw it back onto parents.

Essentially the school day should be shorter by a couple of hours and the summer holidays shouldn't even exist (as much as you probably loath to hear that). They were only put in to start with because farming families needed their kids to help with the summer farming! Something that is so rare now its insane! As a growing child your only job is to learn and develop! You have 3 whole months where you are left to stagnate and for the most part forget what you've been learning previously!

Then half of the curriculum needs to be changed if we are doing a full overhaul and the way it grades and operates.

I remember always coming back from summer break having no idea what I was taught the year before, but still being thrust into a class that depended on the knowledge I was already supposed to have. I remember for a while, they were discussing 4 day weeks, cutting off fridays and removing the summer break entirely. I think that's better, because after taking three months off, at least the whole first couple of weeks of the new school year was spent just recapping what we should have already been taught and that was just a waste of time (at least my math classes did this)

I'd heard there were some countries that had already scrapped the summer holiday system but I've not met anyone who doesn't have them

I'd be pretty thrilled having Friday, Saturday, Sunday off every week without a summer holiday

me too tbh.

my kids have 3 weeks off for easter this time... why? WHY!? who needs the most of a month for Easter?! We aren't even religious

...................three weeks off for EASTER? we didnt get any time off for easter considering it falls on a sunday

i bet they love it but also...................................????????????????? it doesnt make any sense
some teachers (at least here) wont be getting paid during that time either so wtf

that's the point, they do this so they don't have to pay them. I used to work for the council doing play schemes over the summer break and every other person working with me was a teacher who needed income during that time.

and the thing is the kids love it but only for a short time, they get bored and we don't have the funds to do activities to entertain them. Plus we have to work and provide childcare. We can't do both.

too much effort and care you mean lol those poor 1%ers that control the system are so busy already taking their private jets to play on golf courses that span several countries, they can't be expected to exert more energy on our welfare
