Fantasy Last Breath

Not having a choice but to listen to Falkenrath or she would have moved to another seat. Just by hearing to the other passengers conversation she could rather tell this train isn’t exactly packed. She nearly jumped out of her when being told not to meet Adam at all. Melina just stayed put where she sat, sulking like a child. Nearly giving him the silent treatment, it was futile as the doctor seems to want to know the reason why behind this act.

Unfortunately, when she tried to think back about the act only ends up in a endless loop of someone firing a gun at her. She shook her head slowly as a response. She sighs in silence rather feeling disappointed towards Falkenrath having an idea that she is to resume the rebellious act..No, that clearly wasn’t the case at all as well as looking for Adam.

There seems to be no point reaching out to Falkenrath anymore. She sunk her head even deeper burying her head on her knees. Listening to various movements and chatter on the train, coming upon its first stop, the footsteps few of the passengers aboard seems to have faded once they got off only to be replaced by more passengers nearly filling up the train this time. Her breathing started to become rapid as she noticed someone whistling a soft tune it sounded awfully familiar.
Their footsteps seems to be drawing closer to where she and Falkenrath is seated but hearing another passenger complaining how annoying this individual keeps whistling the same tune over and over, Melina knew they were not sitting in front of them. She frantically started to tap on Falkenrath’s arm while signaling him to stay quiet.

Up front there were two officers in uniform who sat two seats away from Melina and Falkenrath. One blonde and one dark haired.
“What’s so important bout finding this girl anyway? Everyone in the entire city would be looking for her anyway..Make our job easier.” Said an officer in an sarcastic tone.
“All the more reason we need to find her first..” Said the other in a calmer tone. Shuffling a few papers in his hands, he took a quick glance of the report before turning to his partner.
“What did the mayor say again about this one? This...falkenrath guy..said he’s a doctor or something.”
His partner shurgs before glancing over at the report.
“Dunno, said one of his guys found a surgical sheet covered in blood. Said this doctor guy wasn’t there when they came back for questioning the next morning.”
The blonde haired officer pulls his hat over his face while he slide on his seat and stretched out his legs.
“Wake me when we arrive to Greben.”

"God damn it. Stop acting so suspicious." Dieter spreads out on the couch seat. "They're looking for a man and a woman separately. Probably won't even look at us." He looks up at the screen at the front of the train, Gerben was in two stops.

At the back, the two guards grumble incomprehensibly. Dieter wonders how they knew to come to Gerben? Did someone tip them off? Seems unlikely as neither of them spoke to anyone. It seems dangerous, and he is reconsidering his travel plans. He turns to Melinda, who is still rolled up awkwardly in a corner of the seat. It makes her stand out even more, he thinks.

"Should we continue to Gerben? Those guards seem like they have the same idea." It's a good thing the coppers didn't bring any dogs. They would've sniffed Melinda out right away if they used the cloth as a source. At least, they are still ignorant towards the fact that one or both of them are on this train. He fumbles with his suitcase and takes out a map, probably outdated. He didn't know what to think. There are many cities in Fluryen, but Dieter wasn't exactly a traveller. It would be difficult to find their way in a foreign city. Not to mention, he can't much help if any from his companion. Her mind is unsound, half broken memories and rather emotional. His thoughts flicker briefly to his colleagues in the society, so many brilliant minds wasted... not that they didn't deserve it.

As he tries to organize his thoughts, a dull beeping comes from the guard's position. Dieter recognizes the sound as a standard pager. He could hear a guard's voice, muttering softly into the machine, but not softly enough. He catches stray sounds and words, something about the early morning, and a ticket. Before Dieter could hear more, the call ends, and he hears the two cops muttering together, before he hears hard booted footsteps coming from the back of the train.

Catching only half of the conversation spoken between the officers, she still stayed put while laying her head low. She didn’t want to risk sitting normally since her face is everywhere now thanks to the posters. “They’re looking for me, not some random woman.” She said in a soft whispering tone before nodding her head about their decision to keep continuing their route to Gerben. Although the doctor refused to allow her to even meet up with Adam, she was still planning on it even if it’s against the his wishes.

Melina took a small peek of the map as Falkenrath looked through it. She didn’t know half of these cities even if the doctor wanted to change their destination. She listened to only small bits and pieces of their conversation, mentioning something about a ticket.

The officer mumbles under his breath watching his comrade taking a quick snooze as he decided to ask anyone on the train for any suspicious activities. Being near the back row almost made it easier for him to see how many are on board.
Melina’s heart began to pace rapidly hearing the sound of heavy footsteps drawing ever near. She didn’t hesitate to shift herself leaning on the right side of the arm rest of her seat, to make it seem like she’s sleeping for anyone who passes by.

The officer held the wanted poster in hand, asking for anyone if they have seen anything or anyone acting suspicious , it didn’t take him long enough to get to the doctor’s seat since the rest of the passengers denied seeing the woman on the poster. As he was about to return back to his seat, he noticed how a young woman seems to be laying rather awkwardly in her seat before turning his attention to the doctor.
“ Good morning sir, We are on a search of an wanted criminal and we were just wondering if you’ve seen anyone suspicious around the past few days.” He said calmly, he couldn’t stop to wonder if the passenger sitting next to him is feeling okay.
“She feeling alright?”

"My niece caught something bad out in the farmlands. They kicked her off the farm, with her puking everywhere and all. We're hoping to get to the big city for a real hospital." He tries his best to appear saddened, "I hope they'll help her..."

The guard squints at her, "she does look pale, hmm." He checks the wanted poster, and pauses.

"Let me know if you see anything suspicious. We suspect sedition plotters on the train."

"Of course." Dieter nods eagerly, and the guard gives Melinda one final look as he turns away, stopping to bother the next passenger.

Soon, he was back in his seat beside his snoozing buddy. The train's announcer names the next stop, Gerben terminal. As the long vehicle nears their destination, Dieter finds a newspaper tucked into a crevice of the window. He pretends to be immersed in his readings as other passengers leave the train. Finally, the two guards leave as well, and Dieter gives Melinda a shake on the shoulder. "We're here. Stop acting like an outlaw and try to be normal. I have in mind to visit an old friend."

He narrows his eyes, "non-rebel friends."

Unlike Osheen, the city of Gerben is swarming with people. Having stood still for a few seconds to wait for his patient, several people bumped into him, dirty looks not omitted. What a bustling and filthy city, just as he remembers it.

She could feel her heart beating in a rapid pace when she heard footsteps stopping by their seat, after a few words has been exchange. She felt a shake on the shoulders and hears Falkenrath’s voice that they had arrived to their destination. She waits a few more seconds before popping her head up and sat up straighter with her feet down. Still looking like a freitened puppy, she just nods her head without uttering a word. What Falkenrath said kind of stuck with her. How can she be normal? Only to have woken up less then twenty-four hours finding out she had been dead for a month along with being hunted down.

After the officer finishes gathering what little information he could, he went back to his friend Before waking him up and reported back to him what he was told. Once the train stops at the terminal, they waited for some of the passengers aboard to leave first. Once they got off the train, one of them stays as he had other business to attend to in the city while the other said his goodbye and leaves.

Melina notices Falkenrath leaving before her, it took her minute he was only waiting outside but it was rather difficult to see anything with the swarm of people everywhere. Taking her step onto the terminal, already she bumped into someone just standing a few feet away from where Falkenrath is.
The officer felt a light bump on his back causing him to turn seeing a rather pale black haired woman in front of him.
“Reznik?”
Looking at the woman in disbelief, he snaps out of his own thought. He definitely didn’t want to cause anything especially with all these people around. He mouthed something to her before letting out a fake smile.
“Pardon me miss. I didn’t see where I was going. Have a nice day.” He said smoothly as he tips his head and walks away disappearing into the crowd.

This short encounter she had wit the officer made her more paranoid than normal. How did he knew her name? Did he pretended not to know that she was on board? Many questions ran through her head knowing she won’t get any answers for them. She hastily ran up to Falkenrath who waited for her while keeping her habit of keeping her head down. Being normal is going to be harder than she thought.
