Realistic or Modern La Lune Bleue

Gerald:

"Well life calls us away for all sorts of different reasons" I said as I raised my glass to hers. After taking a short drink I continued. "So what adventures did you have while you were away?" as I asked I took a full look at her haircut. He hair use to be longer at one point, but not it was quite short and quite cute to mention it. There were always those flash moments that I realized she was stunningly beautiful, and to most people, bad for their health. Liza was something like a black widow spider, or a praying mantis, the female being extremely deadly not only to others but their mates as well. No matter how beautiful the black widow was she was still a black widow.

Mary-Ellen gives a short nod, reaching to pull a pen from her purse. She scrawled a name on the back of the business card before handing it through the window. Loopy penmanship dressed in black ink spelled the name "Laurence Harper".

"Now then," She took a step back and placed a finger on the handle to the driver's side back door. "May I?"

"Minor offence? You do know he's in there on assault of an officer right?" Grayson looks at the girl like she is a madwoman. He starts to ponder why she would want Harper out of lock up. "Why Harper? He's a violent piker that deserves to be where he is. What is you interest in him madam?" Grayson's interest was more than peaked this woman, and now getting a good look at her. She wore a sense of confidence and finesse as is they were her sword and shield. She was also quite beautiful which only added to his interest on why she wanted this specific man out when she could quite possible have any man she wanted in this town.

I took a look at the business card as Grayson spoke, clearly a girl who does not lack in confidence a characteristic that could work well for us. I motioned for her to enter and started up the car. I also listened intently for the girls answer to Grayson, I didn't expect her to answer truthfully but the way she answered should be interesting.

"My interest-" Mary-Ellen started, her eyes narrowing in the passenger's direction as she answered his question. "-is that his freedom is worth quite a large sum to someone else." With that, she opened the door and slid into the back seat. It wasn't entirely a lie, her interests didn't set with Harper himself, but with the individuals who wanted him back on the street.

"You're going to want to take the first right." She added quickly, changing the subject as she scooted to the middle of the seat so that she could lean forward in between the two for a better look out the windshield.

I pressed on the gas and began to move the car, doing what i was told i turned in to the first right. I smelled her perfume when she leaned forward, I wasn't an expert on perfumes but i know a french brand when i was in its presence. Expensive and fruity, the smell made me a tad homesick having been almost decade since he left. He shook the thought of his mind as he stooped the car in the middle of the road and began to do a u turn back towards the building though at a slower pace.

"Nothing all that interesting, I assure you." Liza said, not making eye contact with her companion.

She reached suddenly across the table and took his hand gently, looking into his eyes with a grin; "You've let me prattle on about myself. What's been happening around here? With you?"

She remembered then a brief mention of a woman. A slight pang of jealousy hit her, but she waved it off by squeezing Gerald's hand again.

"And with that woman you were seeing.. Patty, was it?"

Gerald:

I meet her eyes and it seemed that she didnt want to look me in the eyes as of this moment, this started to worry but I decided to carry on our conversation. I took a drink again on how my last relationship had ended. Meeting her eyes and feeling her squeeze his hand I told her about the fate of that relationship. "Patty and I ended not too long ago, she was seeing someone else" taking another drink it still hurt slightly just thinking about it. "I am currently single" I noticed that when she mentioned Patty her grip tightened on my hand. I smiled and kissed her hand lightly and said "So you dont have to worry about someone stealing your drinking buddy" I gave a slight chuckle as I finished.

Mary's eyes widened slightly as the car began to turn around. It was obvious that she was a bit thrown off her game by the seemingly sudden change in plans. "Detective?" She raised an eyebrow. "I'm afraid that I'm going to have to ask you to let me out here if you're untrusting of my information."

"Why would you be afraid of a little double check?I figured you the type to jump at the change of being proved in the right. "I asked probingly giving her a quick hard glare through the rear view mirror. I didn't really care in being proven right or wrong, this double back was to prove that I took nothing in face value or i wasn't to be wrapped around ones finger. At least not always."Look if you really want to leave, you want have your friend back. Unless you cross paths in lockup because you withheld evidence and obstruction of justice for wasting our time."

"Trusting you right now is a tall order to fill." Grayson told her taking a drag from his cigarette. "We don't know your name, your background, or where we are going. The fact of the matter is that I have half a mind to have my partner here take us down to the station, put you in lock up for a few days and then see how talkative you are." Grayson was now turned around in his seat looking her directly in the eye. " It's only by the good graces of Detective Garnier that we are even taking this nice little ride right now." Sitting back down in his seat he waited for her responds.

With the hint of a frown Mary-Ellen sat back against the seat, her eyes intently shifting between the backs of the two in the front. "Name? Mary-Ellen Cumberland. You shouldn't waste your time trying look me up in the records. Background?" She paused, her gaze trailing out the window to her right. "No friends, no family. Got rather boring in New York so I moved on. Where we're going? Well, if you were to listen to my directions, we would be headed to a small automotive garage four or five blocks down. Why? Because in half an hour, give or take a few minutes, your boys will be receiving a shipment."

I parked the car just short of being within view of the old buildings, things seemed clear. I then turned myself around to face Mary when i was satisfied with the building and Mary's information.

"Bon, sorry for the delay then, madmoiselle Cumberland."I said though for courtesy rather then genuine regret. I made another u turn and continued following her directions."What should we expect? How many are involved here?"

"This street will take you around the front of the building. You won't want to be driving around the back. They wouldn't particularly appreciate visitors." Mary-Ellen began, her voice slipping into a fast paced and direct tone. "At the back there are two garage doors. One will be opened by a man in a dark blue mechanic's uniform. Shortly after, a truck that would seem to be delivering soda for the car shop's ice box will pull up. Two men will exit the vehicle on either side and begin unloading crates onto a cart for the first man. These crates contain glass bottles." She leaned forward once again, an arm draped over the shoulder of each seat. "Those glass bottles don't contain soda... These crates will be moved down an inner ramp to the basement of the shop where they will be carted through a series of old sewer tunnels four blocks back to your original stakeout position." When she'd finished, Mary's signature grin had already settled back across her lips.

"What do you think of the set up Grayson?"I asked after Mary finished the situation report as i tried to ignore her presence next to me. I tried to formulate a plan of dealing with these smugglers the mixture of alcohol and weariness in my system muddying my thoughts slightly, considering stopping in the nearby phone booth to call for back up. The thing i learned during the war is to rely in other when in doubt, even as an officer i commonly referred to my men for advise. A concept unheard of in the class divided demographic of the french army then.

George Tenpenny:

It would seem that this fortuitous night that I would have the unique pleasure of meeting on of the many rum runners. The man was named Alister and ran a shop quite a ways from the winery. The man would take soda truck and pick up the booze and from this little shop would distribute it to whoever needed and even up and down the river. I saw the soda trucks start to pull up to the shop and unload their cargo. I had my man pull up just outside of the little shop and just behind the truck. I stepped out of the car after my two body guards made sure it was clear. I wore my usual attire, although no one would see it under the heavy black trench coat, and the black cowboy hat that now replaced my fadora. I always dressed a different way when I was out for something like this so I wasn't recognizable. I waited for a minute until the owner of the shop came out, he was starting to get a gut on him, most likely from sitting back and drinking too much. The man came up to me with a smile and we shook hands and we began to talk about how it is he was doing business lately.

"My gut say that we got nothing left to lose." He said with a sign of defeat in his voice. "Captains not gonna like this one bit." He pulled out his .45 Caliber pistol, and stared at it with a hollow expression. He hated when he had to use it guns only took life, and though he has done it before he feels a little piece of himself die when he fired it. "Please tell me you cleaned your gun recently. We don't want a repeat of what happened last time."

"That happened once and you told me it would never be mentioned again." I said indigently at the memory of a blunder early in our partnership, made only more embarrassing as it could have been avoided by someone with my experience. I carried around a Modele 1892 revolver the one i carried as a side arm during the war, a fine weapon but has been through alot over the years."Au moins je peux frapper quelque chose avec mon revolver.... Mary where is the next turning?"

"Just keep straight. The front of the shop should be just a block away and coming up on our right." She answered, smirking a bit at the two going back and forth. "There's a wider alley at the left of the garage and..." Mary-Ellen paused, glancing at the thin silver watch adorning her wrist. "They should already be there by now. You boys might want to pick up the pace."

I pressed further the accelerator, sending the car faster through the streets. The street were practically empty so we made it good time to the garage, parking just building away not to attract attention. The front of the garage seemed quite but Mary did say the action was at the back of the carriage. I reached into the holster underneath my shoulder and took out my revolver checking if it was loaded. I turned to Mary.

"I take it you will stay in the car?"

"You know what they say about assuming, Detective." Mary quipped as she raised an eyebrow and reached for the door handle. "Don't worry your pretty little head about it, no one in their right mind would risk pointing one of those at me." She nodded towards his weapon before sliding out of the car and nudging the door shut behind her.

"I wouldn't count on these people having the right mind, but its your life spend it how you want."I said getting out the car, usually i won't let a witness come a raid but i doubted i could have pressed her to stay behind. In all honesty, i didn't trust her alone in the car prefering to have her when could see her and no i don't mean what your thinking. I turned to Grayson."Ready?"

"No, but like everything else we do I don't really have a choice some ones got to watch your ass."Grayson laughed a little at his own joke before he got serious sating his plan. "Let's try and sneak in see what we are dealing with, and then we can call for back up." He continued with. "Does that sound good to you, or do you have a different approach to the situation? Because right now I'm open to any suggestions?" Grayson began wondering if they would have to pull out the big guns from the trunk.

"Nope, that's better than what i was thinking: Make it up as we go along."I said away that blurred the line between a joke and being serious. I reached in my jacket taking out my hip flask and took a swig, i coughed as the drink burned down his throat."Lets go. Keep talking to a minimum, hand gestures only." I said before making my way slowly down the alley keeping close to the garage, holding my revolver in both hands ready to fire. It wasn't long before i could hear talking.

Looking up I spotted an open window tapping my partner on the shoulder I motioned up to the opened window that could give us a better clue to what we were dealing with. Pacing my weapon back in its holster I squatted with both hands ready to receive his foot in order to give him a boost up to the window.
