Matrim
The Prince of Ravens
Chester glanced once at her eyes and all the memories came flooding back.
She's sad. And I can't chalk her behaviour up just for general shyness, because I know that look. I have been running from that in the last two years, coming to terms with it, trying to find joy in little things, just so I don't get stuck where I once was, with my heart heavy and dark. I have been fighting it, and I have been working hard to forget that I am fighting depressed for a long time; just enjoying the moment.... until now.
Chester looked at the girl again, and shoved the memories out.
Not the time to brood.
The smile came later than usual, but it was still a genuine one, complete with flapping his hands around while talking.
"Hey, aren't you hungry? We were just going to grab some food to go before classes started. So... I thought you might want to join us...?"
Chester left that as an open-ended question, and realised that he didn't even know her name.
"...I didn't quite catch your name earlier."
