Fantasy kingdom of Karth re-boot

Umber17

The Dreamer
Karth politics

Elise Salis is the eldest of three sisters and is to be queen of a land called Karth. There are 4 provinces in Karth. The reigning monarch of The land is represented in these provinces by a sovereign. At the beginning of each reign the ruler gathers up all of the nobility and can either re-assign the Nobleman\Noblewoman to be sovereign of a different province or they can leave everything the way it was. Most of the nobility that isn't directly related to the queen Will want one if these provinces.

The rest of the nobility that doesn't get assigned a province will stay in the capitol and advice the queen, but only one of them will hold real power. This one is called the "senior adviser."

Your job is to collect as much power as possible, whether that be through marriage, assassination, or simply presenting your case to Elise.

(Here is the list of positions a Noble can be assigned by Elise during the RP, from most power, to least)

1. Senior adviser

2. Sovereign of Havenbarrow

3. Sovereign of Greenville

4. Sovereign of Freyville.

(Remember to keep in mind that while being a spouse of someone powerful isn't up there, you can hold a lot of power and money by becoming a spouse!)

Karth culture

In Karth people worship 3 gods, and pray to them often. They think these gods control everything. First there is the god of war and death. Jach. He is the most powerful, and most spiteful.

Then there is Kade. The god of life, love, and home. Only women pray to him, as it is thought that he does not listen to a man's prayer.

Finally, there is Exaleomos. God of knowledge. Everyone prays to Exaleomos. Also, he is the only god that monks worship.

  • Normal Rp rules (no drama, mary sues, or god moding.)
  • Male characters MUST be 20+(dont be afraid of the 30s or 40s!)
  • female characters can be as young as 13 (just a hint, if you are a very young woman 13-16 your best bet is marriage, Elise will most likely not name you duchess of a province.)
  • If somebody's ploy to kill you doesnt fail, you are dead. As in, your character doesnt exist anymore.
  • Make sure to keep things you say at least mostly time period. (Dont use geez, shit, crap, things like that.)
  • If somebody is trying to kill you, your character probably wont know about it (put the password: dont kill me, in the "other" category) so no "I sense there's poison in this wine!"
  • I understand if sometimes you dont have much to say but try to keep text talk, one liners, and spelling errors out of the RP.
  • The plots might get a little hectic, so try to keep up!
  • Umm. Have fun?
  • Not really a rule but feel free to talk with other people in the RP before we start and set up a marriage (a marrage that has already happened in the plot) or a family (brother & sister, uncle & niece) royals were VERY family oriented. There will be at least 2 families among the court, even if I have to set them up myself.

Ladypilot17 updated kingdom of Karth re-boot with a new update entry:

lore

I posted a section in the overview about the gods that people in Karth worship. It shouldnt affect the roleplay very much, i just did it to clarify something that will be in the starter.
Read the rest of this update entry...
Elise kneeled in front of a stone table. Her head tiled up, so to see it. her arms at her side, in a defeat-like pose. Behind her and on either side is where her two sisters stood. The three were in a large hall with altars to the gods behind the table on the wall. Behind them was the door. On the table laid their father. King Alexander. Silent tears fell from Elise. She had been very close to her father. He was kind and humorous. The citizens thought he was insane because of how high his taxes were and how many times he declared war and all the strange things he spent the tax money on. He wasn't insane. He had explained why he did everything he did, but only to Elise. He looked very peaceful, very regal. They dressed him in armor, combed his hair, and placed an axe in his hands. Elise sobbed quietly. She suddenly realized she was queen. Royal families would be arriving within days to pay respects and be reassigned to their new provinces. Under her breath she whispered, "Kade save me." Elsie wiped her tears away and stood up. She slowly walked to her father, kissed his forehead, and walked out. Sisters tailing.

A week later, and the body had been replaced by a stone casket with the body and face of the man who lied within carved on the top. Before the casket was put into the catacombs, it would be there for 3 weeks. One for each god.

Elise was not in the Chapel however. She was in the throne room. Today was her coronation. The room was split into two masses on either side of the room. Dignitaries, royalty from other bordering and close kingdoms, knights, Lords, ladies, exceptionally rich citizens, and the like.

Elise wore a red and white dress, as per tradition. As she walked through the isle people stood up, as per tradition. When she reached the throne a priest swore her in and placed a crown on her head, as per tradition. People clapped, Elise breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Later that night, after the feast and after Elise had changed, there was a ball. There were almost a hundred people gathered in the ball room. As Elise stepped walked in, everyone turned and became silent. "Welcome my friends! Please! Enjoy yourself." She said, gesturing to the band. The band began playing a jolly tune.

Riiker turned back to the courtier he had been talking to, a second daughter of lord somewhere or other...

"The queen doesn't look too shaken by the death of her father; is that a good or a bad thing?"

suddenly this idle mumble had become a question, and he turned to the courtier expecting an answer.

she simply nodded. unhelpful. before he began another sentence she was talking to someone else.

"bloody karthians, so rude." he made sure he mumbled that quietly, as he sauntered off for some more brandy, finding some in the arms of a servant.

"no you can't take those!"

Riiker glared at him.

"if she hasn't enough brandy it'll be you to blame!"

"tell her, that i have it."

he popped open the brandy, and while standing as nonchalantly as possible, he poured it into a glass. waiting for the servant to relay the bad news and poor selection of drinks.

Elise was siting in the front on the room when she was aproached by a servant. He was saying that Sir Riiker was drinking all the brandy. Elise maintained the air of calm and content that she'd used ever since that first day her father died. She walked swiftly over to Riiker. "Are you enjoying yourself?" She said, not a hint of annoyance in her voice.

((Ooc: Sorry about the mess with this post, my phone reset it every time i got an rp alert and kept inserting words where t didn't belong. below is the fixed, edited version. sorry for any inconvenience!)))

Allyne thought her eldest sister a beautiful a queen, and loved the ceremonies, the coronation, and the ball. "Oh, sister," she sighed to Elise, from off to the side. "Tis truly a lovely ball..." It was true; everyone was dressed in their finest, including Allyne herself. She bunched the blue satin of her dress in her fists, a bad habit she had been trying to break since childhood.

A cough tore through her frail body. Though Allyne prayed every night for her afflcition to fade, her breath still lost its way in her throat and left her week. Still, she was sure that a life time of poous, firece belief in the gods would lead her to proper salvation.

shit!!!! that was the queens brandy!

he calmed himself down. "yes, when i took the brandy from the servant, i was not aware that it was for someone...so...regal m'lady"

he consoled himself, he had the new queens attention. he pulled up another glass pouring one for her.

"so how is it? ruling everything?" a half descent conversation starter he though.

Elise noticed her sister's breathing and took her arm so to comfort her. Elise worried about her sister often..."Its forgivable sir." She said to his first comment. She had to think about the second as she recived the brandy. "Its hard work, but my father belived I could make a good ruler. Im trying my best."

Illia watches her sisters, deciding to stay behind. She was never that into balls, but she's good at pretending. The Princess bites her lip as she stands by the throne, watching the goings ons of the ball.

"to be fair, you havent had any challenges yet." he tried hard for that not to sound judgemental. he trusted her fathers opinion, but as it was, there was alot riding on her. his titles at the very least.

"your father was a great man, jach protect him."

(OOC i'm caught in something, i'll be back in 3-4 hours... sorry.)

Elise became somber but still calm. "Jach perseve him.... it was nice meeting you sir Riiker. If you'll excuse me." She said, gesturing to the throne. She walked back and sat down. "Are you all right?" Elise quietly asked her sister.
((Its cool, thanks for letting us know.))

Illia says nothing, looking over at her two sisters. She was quite worried about Allyne; she didn't look well. Elise looked a bit nervous herself, though if you hadn't grown up with her, you wouldn't be able to tell. "Yes, are you alright, sister?"

she didn't want to hear of her fathers death. which was odd, she came to the ball after his funeral. how strange, the sooner he stabilised his position the sooner he could tend to his sons poor swordplay. he would try his luck with another courtier, if just to pass the time.

Allyne pressed a hand to her chest. "Y-yes, of course. I believe the excitement of the day has just...taken it's toll." She smiled at her dear family. "Don't worry for me, let us just enjoy...such a wondrous ball." And perhaps if she fainted, it would be into the arms of a gentleman, just like in her stories and the songs the minstrels sang to keep her entertained! How magnificent! Perhaps she would station herself near a young, handsome man just in case her legs failed her.

Elise smiled sadly and put a hand on her shoulder. "Perhaps you should eat something and sit down." Elise normally lived talking to her subjects but tonight all she wanted to do was tend to her kingdom.

"Y-yes...your highness." She gave her sister a small, mischievous smirk. How odd it was, her dear sister QUEEN. "I shall see you about. And do try to dance...even queens are allowed a bit...of fun still." Hopefully Elise remembered that; she didn't want rule of the kingdom to steal away Elise as it had done their parents.

Elise laughed at her sister calling her 'your highness' she nodded, promising her sister that she would have fun. Elise sat down in the front of the room. Her seat was on a raised platform, so that she was always above her subjects. She then waited for someone to approach.

Winnamine saw that thew new queen was sitting alone. Now would be a good time to introduce myself. She thought. She made hr way over to her, skirting the dance floor. When she stood before Elise's seat, she curtsied deeply. "Your majesty, I am so sorry for your loss. You must be absolutely devastated."

***

Elayna wasn't used to balls or large events. They never had them at home. The people made her feel nervous and she wasn't sure how to join in on of the conversations. So she just stayed in a corner, back pressed against a wall, watching as people talked and danced and laughed. Elayna ran her palms over her dress, nervously. The dress she wore was new. In fact, all of the clothing and much of the jewelery that had been brought to the capitol was new. Her mother had new clothing made for all of them, from the finest materials before they left. She also hired more then a dozen new servants.

***

Julian grabbed another drink off a passing tray, and took a sip. He'd only been to capitol a handful of times, and there had never been a celebration like this. He loved the brightly colored clothing, the laughter and bits of happy conversation he could hear, the music and the dancing. And the food! What they had at home was always plain, and they rarely had meat. But there had been a feast with dozens of courses, all richer than the last.
