That is true. I usually refer to last names in most situations. My job wired me to do so. x)
And yes, it is a bit confusing when we have different ways to do that, hence the need for courtesy names.

Having seen a lot of casual first name calls thrown around in some RPs, despite their professions and personalities, I am inclined to keep the demeanors professional, or at least try to maintain the world's immersion. Would be awkward to have a butler call their master by their first name.
Immersion starts with the little details.

I generally write as first names are for when you want to be Extra Dramatic, whether it's love confession, or declaration of rivalry, or something. Keep it to last names unless you want to make it a Big Deal.

Pilgrim59 omg I've just reread the roleplay and just noticed that the Xiang family name was already mentioned in the first post.
It completely slipped my mind when I was choosing my character's surname. If this conflicts with what you had in mind for the story, I can just change her surname.
