Kalifekt, the Herald of Ruin
Messenger Soul of the Chariot of Embers
There's always something cataclysmic going on in the Demon City. Thousands of layers, hundreds of lumbering behemoths, dozens of wrathful devas: there's never a quiet moment. Not even a citizen can be in every place at once, and as such it is only the very greatest and most terrible of Hellish cataclysms that are heralded by the cry of the Horn of Soot, only the very luckiest of fiefdoms treated to the shouted sermons of the Herald of Ruin. Taking the form of a tall, completely hairless Southern man, with skin that glistens like oil, eyes like live coals, great curving ram's horns, and wide leathery wings, Kalifekt roams the Demon City with his entourage, exhorting the craven serfs that crowd its streets to awe and terror at the mighty and destructive works of their lords. Kalifekt can most often be found flying before his progenitor, praising his might and glory with gleeful schadenfreude as Ferand's flames lick at the brass and stone of the Demon City, but the Chariot of Embers sometimes prefers to arrive unannounced. At these times, he gives Kalifekt leave to seek what diversions he may among the hundred-hundred layers of Hell. The dolorous call of the Horn of Soot may herald the collapse of a mile-high dam holding back Kimbery's waters one day, and a rare three-way layer collision the next - although Kalifekt will never give so much warning that any but the slimmest minority will escape. Several of his past iterations fell prey to the lady Adorjan when they took it in their silly heads to herald her coming with their unwelcome clamor as some sort of misguided courtship ritual. So far as anyone can tell, however, Ferand has finally managed to weed that unfortunate tendency out of his Messenger, and Kalifekt shows no inclination to repeat his past mistakes.
