The joke is he's totally out of touch and doesn't get the meme.
He's the Chief of the East Coast orcs. (Story wise, the East Coast orcs are very civilized, and have a booming Beach tourism business along the east coast.) They're modernized, but they hold on to old traditions. They basically have their own country. The position of Chief is kind of like the Queen of England, a purely 'Inspirational' role these days as a lot of their legislative power is in parliaments. (The East Coast Orcs are totally modernized.)
His father though is usually busy keeping up traditional Orc traditions, while also balancing raising kids and generally helping run his country. He's very kind, understanding, wise and patient. (Thrun has a long way to go to inherit the Wise part, but he's inherited everything else.) However because he's so busy, he's totally out of touch with internet culture and struggles to keep up with his kids.

Yep, I do get the joke (and I've 90% sure I've seen fanart of some character wearing that shirt, now that I'm thinking of it), but being a figurative boomer that doesn't understand so many memes, I just couldn't figure out what that specific meme was supposed to reference. Thrun's father sounds rad as hell, though, and is honestly an inspiration to us all~

Like the kind who sits down watching the superbowl wearing a jersey screaming at the TV? She's a super traditionalist Orc while being more in-touch with modern thinking then their dad, but much like Bula doesn't see any shame in holding onto their traditions, like being shy about Orcs enjoying fighting and stuff, so she's like...

She'd just pull her right into the family, especially since she really likes the idea of Thrun being with someone independent with a strong backbone. She'd probably love Dayana, most of the family would. Except maybe Bula, and that's only because she's probably going to be scared after Dayana gives her the riot act for all the trouble she caused them with her stupid prank, lol.

I also had a thought, since the characters have weapons and combat skill, if we ever want some fighting scenes the Non-East Coast orcs actually fit in really nicely. Since they're still savage and just want to fight, and we established their god is kind of an ass. They're strong but probably not super well trained, so they'd be an opponent the students could beat pretty handily with surperior skill.
