rebel

After finally reaching his dorm room, Riley just threw himself on the bed and tried to fall asleep which was not the easiest part with the drug in his system still flowing and screaming party. But his mindset was different. For a moment, he tried to think about when it all started to go downhill but that just gave him a migraine. He was getting sick and tired of fighting with Sebastian and honestly, it was becoming old news. All those fights with Sebastian where they finished all bloody and hurt. The bastard felt nothing, that was the worst part because no matter what Riley did, he was basically unstoppable.

It took smoking a big fat blunt to finally make his eyelids fall and send him to sleep. Only to wake up the next day to the annoying reality of school and having to wear the collar. He and all the others with the new accessory were excluded from all trainings and practical lessons and Riley suffered. He was smart enough to get his studies in order but he was not a real school fan, was easily bored and he just wanted to go outside and do something. Rock climbing sounded like the perfect light activity he would wanna go for but frankly, he didn’t want to try his luck. And so the first week of school was what it was.

At least his game was pretty much on. And despite of the collar, he still managed to get himself a date for Friday evening. She found the collar cool and called him a rebel which Ry used for his advantage and let her take him home. Pretty little thing. Roxy or something like that. But their house was impressive. Just her room was as big as the apartment his parents used to live in. Riley didn’t complain, he went in and did what he came for only to wake up next morning tangled in her legs and arms. Getting out of her grip was the tricky part and it took him good fifteen minutes to do so. He needed to hurry so she wouldn’t wake up before he left but he still indulged in a nice hot shower in her bathroom and ubered back to the dorm for a fresh change of clothes.

The time was on his side here so he walked back to school slowly as if nothing was going on. His back pocket was packet with the same stuff he had brought to the bonfire party because there were still a few treats left and it would be a pity to throw them away. Plus, it was a fucking detention, they could use a little bit more laid back attitude. Especially with all those strong personalities in the building. Tugging on the collar a little, Ry tried to loosen it up a little but no such luck. It was starting to bother him and he would pay generously if someone took it off.

“Hey, you cool kids and kittens!” he yelled as he entered the room and made it his point to ignore the grumper in the first row. Sending a wink to Miya, he grinned. “Love the hat, blondie.” He headed to the back where Dante was already seated. “Lyla, sweetheart, come join us, don’t sit all alone there.” he invited the girl and made a beckoning gesture a second before offering a fist bump to Dante. Without saying a word, he flashed him a knowing smirk and wiggled his eyebrows at his best pal to let him know he didn’t come empty-handed. And the confession came a little while later as Anita walked to the class and came to join them to the back. “Welcome to the funhouse, Miss Villareal.” he spoke condescendingly and reached to his back pocket, presenting a cigarette pack with regular smokes, two blunts and a baggie with the last few pieces of the heart-shaped candy. “But that one is only for the bravest.” Riley added, poking a challenge at them.

Samara Seabrook.

  • There were very few things Samara despised more than not being in control. After spending a portion of her life in a cage with no say in what happened or was done to her, she just couldn't convince herself to let go. Only drink enough to get a bit tipsy. Only smoke enough to feel a bit high. On the other side, control was the reason she could act so recklessly. Since moving to IvyRose, Sam had made it her mission to try out as many death-defying things as she could. What started out as a personal mission became a social connection, particularly to Riley. Their friendship had started out as flirty, primarily on his part. But eventually, they bonded over their adrenaline junkie ways. Because at the end of the day, if she died jumping off of a cliff into a waterfall, or free climbing a rocky mountain, at least it was her choice to do those things.

The Headmaster's collars created a bit of a paradox in the aqua-haired girl's mind. On one hand, they made her vulnerable and susceptible to the world around her. After all, it was much easier to take down a petite girl rather than a 400-pound fur-covered Siberian tiger. It meant that she couldn't defend herself in the shapeshifting sense, and could potentially be at a disadvantage were something to happen to her or her friends. On the other, however, it meant that she couldn't lose control of herself. With the collar on, Samara could actually feel her feelings without worrying about losing herself to animal instincts. So, as the cool metal snapped into place around her throat, the shapeshifter couldn't help the wave of relief that washed over her.

For an entire week, there was no pain and no worrying. Sure, she missed being able to sprint through the forest at full cheetah speed or fly to class with her falcon wingspan. But, feeling as though she was a normal high school student was almost like a vacation. Too bad it was over so soon. Sam walked through the halls of IvyRose, making her way towards the detention room. Though it was familiar, she hadn't spent much time there since her early days at the academy. Nevertheless, her old 'regular' seat, closest to the exit, was still available when she entered. Sam perched herself on top of the desk, her feet resting on the chair and her back facing the front of the room. She offered a mild wave to Seb and Miya, her green gaze flickering to the group at the back of the room.

"As much as I appreciate the audacity of bringing drugs to detention," Samara said, a smirking playing on the corners of her lips, "I don't think the professor will appreciate even more delinquency. You might want to put those away before they get here." She pulled a book from her backpack, a weathered copy of The Shining by Stephen King, and opened to her bookmark. Her mother had been a huge fan of his work, and it instilled an appreciation for horror in Sam from a very young age. Tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear, the shapeshifter settled in and began to read. That is, until a familiar mop of brunette hair and glasses stumbled into the room. Was Finn in charge of detention? This could only go poorly.

Finnegan Chambers.

  • Most people didn't realize how truly terrifying IvyRose's Headmaster was. As a family, the Chambers were powerfully gifted, succeeding in whatever fields they so happened to find themselves in. Reginald Chambers, however, was never quite satisfied with just succeeding. No, he wanted to do more, be more. He wanted to build an empire so powerful that no one could surpass him, no one could control him. Finnegan had grown up with that man, knew exactly what he was capable of. When his mother had vanished, Reginald didn't even seem to grieve. Instead, it seemed as though his chains had been broken and he was free to do whatever he wished. In those few years following Marianne's disappearance, IvyRose increased its faculty and staff members exponentially, built several new buildings, and recruited more students, all with funds that no one seemed to know where they came from. Finnegan couldn't help but think that something was happening beneath the depths of IvyRose Academy. He just couldn't quite figure out what.

Nevertheless, as Finn sat in his father's office, he made sure to keep those thoughts from his mind. Headmaster Chambers was a telepath and could discern and comprehend the thoughts in one's head simply by being near them. As a child, Finnegan couldn't get anything past his father. He always knew when he was lying or hiding something. Over the years, however, he had nearly perfected the art of hiding his thoughts, covering them up when he was in the vicinity of his father. Thankfully, that usually wasn't too often. The brunette averted his gaze out the window of the large, ornate office, focusing on a sparrow that hopped along the rooftop. Headmaster Chambers sat behind the desk, elbows resting on its surface and supporting his chin as he stared his son down. After a while, the intimidating man sat back in his chair and said, "This is a test, Finnegan. Surely, you must understand that."

Though he continued to look away, a method of keeping his thoughts at bay, Finnegan was able to respond: "Yes, sir. I understand." Headmaster Chambers let the silence hang in the air for a moment before nodding. "Alright, then. You will monitor the delinquents and their responses to the collars. You will not let them out of your sight nor will you remove the collars. And you will report everything to me. Is that clear?" As much as Finnegan didn't want to betray his friends, he wasn't quite sure how he could go against his father without suffering the repercussions. And if there was anything in this world that he hated more than his father's discerning gaze, it was those terrible collars. The idea of losing his abilities, of not knowing everything he knew, and of not being in touch with the electronics around was not something Finn ever wanted to go through. Most days, he felt quite useless. But he couldn't imagine being entirely worthless as well.

"Yes, father. Crystal." Headmaster Chambers paused for a moment, appraising his son before shrugging his shoulders. "Good. On your way then." Before the end of the sentence had even left his lips, Finnegan was out of the room, wanting to be as far away from the Headmaster's office as he could. He hurried to the main classroom building, nearly stumbling over his own feet as he clambered through the doorway of the detention room. Finn couldn't help but be mildly surprised that everyone had shown up on time, metal collars still strapped around their throats. A faint pink blush tinted his cheeks as he realized he may have just embarrassed himself in front of other students. "Um... H-hi everyone," he began, raising one hand in a slight wave. "I've been placed in charge of d-d-detention today. So, everyone take your seats and start working on your homework, okay?" No matter how confident he wanted to be, the words still came out in stutters. Could anyone take him seriously... at all?

Lyla

loner

The week spent wearing the collar wasn't much different for Lyla, honestly. Everyone knew about what had happened at the bonfire, even those who weren't there. Already used to the stares and whispers from her peers, Lyla just continued to ignore them as she went through the week wearing it. She actually ended up forgetting about it a few times, taking herself off guard when she looked in the mirror and saw it, or saw one of the others wearing it. It was lightweight, but she had to be extra careful with her emotions because she didn't want to be shocked. That's why she did her best to avoid everyone.

She was the first to arrive in detention that Saturday, but that was fine with her. She got her pick of the seats, so she chose one a few rows back by the window. Dante arrived shortly after she did, but she didn't even look at him as he picked his own seat, and she only rolled her eyes as he groaned aloud, asking if they could get the day over with. It was his own fault they were here. Yeah her emotions and her power had gotten out of hand, but only because he'd started shit he had no business starting.

The others began to arrive as well, and Lyla offered Sebastian a small smile when he greeted her. The new girl was wearing quite the vibrant outfit, but honestly, Ly loved her hat. Plus, she didn't have anything against the blonde. The brunette that came in shortly after her, though, that was a different story. Riley was next, followed by Samara. Hearing Riley call her name, she felt her grip tighten on her bag that she'd placed in her lap as she bit down on the inside of her cheek, trying to also ignore the butterflies she felt. Maybe she'd venture over there later, but not now. Not with Anita around.

Finn entered last, and Lyla couldn't hide the surprise on her face once he spoke and she realized he was in charge. What the hell was this? Was his father trying to get him murdered? Lyla shot a look over at Dante as he laughed, and that just solidified her choice to not go over there. Instead, she just pulled out her notebook that she normally wrote in, flipping to a clean page. Something was mentally blocking her from writing, though, and she glanced up, seeing Sebastian's back to her. Pursing her lips, she finally stood from her seat, closing her notebook as she stood and moved to sit beside him. Her eyes were drawn to the bandages around his hands, and she frowned. "I'm sorry about your hands." She told him, resisting the urge to glare at Dante again. "My brother's a dick."

Dante half expected Lyla to have some sort of smart ass comeback to his moans and groans, but she said nothing. He kept his head back as he waited for the anger that never came. Man, she was really not talking to him. Had he fucked up that badly? He really didn't think so. There hadn't been any reason for Sebastian to interfere with him and Riley talking to the new girl. All they'd wanted to do was get to know her, show her a good time. And honestly, Dante was happy with Anita; he'd never even thought about taking the girl home. He'd just wanted to fuck up Riley's game, because he was a dick and that's what he did. Just thinking about it brought a smirk to his face.

Speak of the devil, though, and they shall appear. He heard someone enter the room and did a double take upon recognizing Sebastian and the girl clad in green. What a sight. The hat was cute, though. He ignored Sebastian, though he winked at Miya. Anita entered next, followed shortly after by Riley, who of course had shit to help them get through detention. Anita was the first to ask, and Riley happily produced what she wanted. Riley grinned as he shifted further down in his seat, looking over at Lyla when Riley called to her. She didn't look at them, but he could practically sense the eye roll, and he knew she was cautious because of Anita being around.

Oh well. Her loss. He shrugged, looking up when Samara entered the room. He waved at her, laughing at her comment. "Oh, come on, Sam. You can't tell me you don't want this day to go by faster than its intended." She opened a book and he just chuckled again, looking over at Riley. "We need to light that up, for sure." He nodded at the blunt, then looked at the door as Finn entered. "Finn, my boy!" He grinned, his jaw dropping when Finn spoke and Dante realized that he was supposed to be in charge. "Oh, this is going to be cake." His grin widened and he clasped hands with Riley.

Movement caught his eye and he looked over at Lyla as she stood, making her way up to Sebastian. "What the hell is she doing?" He narrowed his eyes as he nudged Riley, nodding in their direction. If it wasn't for the collar around his neck, he would have gotten up and yanked her away from that asshole. As it was, he glanced back and spotted Anita and calmed some. "Fuck it. Light up, Riley. You don't mind, do you Finn?" He glanced towards his nerdy friend, standing from his seat and approaching him. Slinging an arm around his shoulders, he brought his friend towards the group. "You can even join in, Finn."

Once Miya and Sebastian entered the detention room, it was still rather empty, only the Kuznetsov twins were present, surprisingly not sitting together which made Miya wonder whether the two were even siblings. She has been in IvyRose only for a week so she still was not very familiar with the overall situation. However, thanks to the bonfire incident, she at least knew what kind of a gift each of them had. Lyla was the “weather girl” and Miya thought that her gift was one of the coolest she had ever seen. I mean... an ability to change the weather? How much easier can that make your life? An annoying date you want to excuse yourself from? Bam! A blizzard– “Sorry, I have to cancel, you see what is happening outside”. One thing was sure, Miya would have a lot of fun with such a fun gift.

Miya greeted them both with a bright smile and took a seat behind Sebastian. Soon after, the room was getting crowded. All the Friday evening “sinners” started coming in. Anita still seemed to be pissed at her as she did not even make herself to be a decent person to at least greet her before crashing in the back with her boyfriend, Riley proved himself to really be the cute guy when he added a little wink and a compliment to his greeting, creating an ear-to-ear smile on Miya’s face. She knew she did not always dress like the sexiest girl on the planet and was used to being mocked for her fashion choices so she was genuinely happy someone appreciated her froggy hat like that, in public even.

The last remaining person followed a few minutes later. Samara’s outfit looked dope as hell and Miya could imagine wearing something like that herself. Luckily, the two were roommates so maybe she would lend her the pieces sometime. Although that was not what Miya was after. In Miya’s eyes, Samara had the coolest gift she had ever seen and it was her dream that one day Samara would let her ride her, her marvelous tiger form, to the classroom one day. That would honestly make Miya’s life. If she could one day ride a fluffy Siberian tiger to the classroom. Or a bear. Or whatever funky animal, to be honest.

When Finn entered the class, Miya was a little confused as he did not take part in Friday's mayhem, so it made no sense for him to be punished with them. Finn clarified soon after when he explained he was in charge of the detention which obviously, made everyone loosen up. Miya already knew Finn rather well as he was helping her get settled in. Showed her around, told her what to take care of - he was practically her mentor and the two had interacted a lot for this reason.

Miya hated doing homework and always had to snack on something while doing it to make it more bearable. With that being said, Miya grabbed her backpack and started filling her desk with various snacks, pulling out a pack of gummy bears, a pack of Cheetos, a pack of skittles, two homemade sandwiches wrapped in paper tissues, a Tupperware full of cut vegetables to go with the sandwiches, three soda cans and a Twix bar. She spent a few seconds looking at the buffet, thinking about what to start with. It was a tough choice as preferably, she would love to eat it all at the same time, but that was not physically possible. Maybe there was a gifted person in this school who could do that. Woah, that would be awesome. Miya made a mental note to herself to try to find it out.

Doing the homework for a few minutes, Miya already felt bored out of her skull and gave up pretty much immediately. Not even the gummy bears she was snacking on made the activity more bearable this time as there were so many stimuli around her. Who would want to spend time doing homework when you have so many people to interact with. Being an only child, one learned how to entertain themselves and Miya was an expert. She started throwing one gummy bear at the time in the air, catching them in her mouth when she had an idea. “Sebastian, look,” she tapped Sebastian on his shoulder to make him turn around in his seat to face her. “One,” she said, threw one gummy bear in the air, and caught it in her mouth. “Two” she said, threw two gummy bears in the air, and caught them with her mouth. “TEN!” she shouted and threw a fistful of gummy bears in the air, catching only one with her mouth this time as the rest ricocheted off her face and scattered on the floor around her, which made Miya burst into loud laughter.

Once she calmed herself down she collected the gummy bears from the floor and walked over to the sink in the front of the classroom. She opened the tap and placed her hand full of gummy bears under the running water to make sure the gummy bears were clean before she put them in her mouth. It would be a shame if they came to waste. When the wet mass of gelatine disappeared in her mouth, Miya turned around to head back to her seat but saw that Sebastian already had company which made her genuinely happy. It gave her an opportunity to take care of one more thing she wanted to settle.

Instead of returning to her seat, Miya walked all the way to the back to join Riley, Dante, and Anita. “Hey, I think we both took it a bit too far that night and I want to apologize for it. I am sorry I poured that drink over your hand, Anita. Peace?” Miya addressed Anita and took a Twix bar out of her pocket, presenting it to Anita as a token of peace.

Under normal circumstances, Sebastian would have already pulled out his notes from the backpack and started working on his homework. Thanks to Miya’s stupid idea and those stupid bandages around is hands, he could not and he wondered how he was going to survive this detention which was already made worse by the presence of the IvyRose popular club.

His Saturdays were already wasted when he had to spend them in detention so he usually figured it would be the best time management to take care of all the unpleasant things aka the homework while being there. Sebastian despised getting homework, it made him feel like he was a 12yo who does not understand the importance of studying and had to be forced to do something about his studies in his free time. Sebastian was very well aware of the benefits that education gave oneself so he did not need to be forced like this. Not having much pleasure in life, Sebastian would often turn to history books to study historic battles. It was the best way to study military tactics and strategy which Sebastian found vital information if he one day was to lead the gifted. Sebastian might seem that he was just this mountain of muscles with no brain, but the contrary was true. He was not born yesterday and he refused to believe Headmaster Chambers offered refuge for the gifted out of his kind heart. There was always some hidden motive behind every act of kindness, that is what Sebastian had learned a long time ago, and seeing how Headmaster Chambers was treating his own son, there was no way he was this kind-hearted old man who only wanted their best.

However, if the time came to choose a leader, in Sebastian’s eyes there was no one better for the role, though he was sure of one thing, the title would not come to him without a fight. There were many individuals in IvyRose, who would love the title for themselves and that is why he wanted an advantage hence he kept improving his battle skills. He was already more than skilled in all martial arts, having been forced to do them by his father ever since he was a small boy, and with all the books he had read so far, his knowledge was also becoming vaster by the day.

When the room filled, it actually made no difference to him as apart from a few greetings he shared with Lyla, Samara, and Finn, there was no more interaction and the room might as well have been empty. Sebastian kept staring at his bandaged hands resting on the table, thinking about when his misery would end, though apparently not soon, he figured when he felt Miya tapping him on his shoulder. He was almost afraid to look back and that was saying something as he was never afraid of anything, but that girl, ever since she came into his life, she was a loose cannon. Knowing that she would annoy him until she would get her way, he knew there was no point resisting and turned around to see what she wanted. Was he even surprised by the gummy bear schtick, not really but he still had to take a few seconds to process what he had seen and regretted he did not have a gift of regeneration as he would have poked his eyes out without hesitation that very moment.

Without a word he turned back to face the whiteboard and continued what he was doing before he got interrupted, thinking about how he could justify the sudden healing of his hands if he removed the bandages that instant. His train of thoughts suddenly got interrupted by a familiar voice. It was Lyla, Dante’s sister and his better half. Sebastian was genuinely surprised, in a good way, by being approached by her like that as she usually was the quiet one, tending to her own business. “I would high-five to that if I could,” he said in a neutral tone and then looked at his hands to hint at his “injuries”. Sebastian did not know what to say next as he was not very skilled at talking to girls. It was different with Miya as she talked nonstop, but with Lyla it was different, so he just turned his head back and continued staring at his blank homework notes and his hands, sighing heavily out of frustration partly because he could not do anything about the homework while his hands were like that and partly because he knew he was gonna come off as grumpy again as he did not continue the conversation. It was not like he hated it, he just did not know how.

bitch

This detention was absolutely unjustified. The thought kept swirling in Anita’s head this whole time. The whole week for that matter but today especially since she walked in the room with the other guilty parties. She was pouting alright because the Latina was still absolutely convinced she was not even supposed to be here. All she did was defend herself, she didn’t start the whole brawl and the Headmaster should have taken it into consideration. Neither did Samara and if she had to be fair, even the new girl was not the cause of the trouble even though it revolved around her. And hey, this was a pretty grand gesture from Anita to admit this even after everything that went down. In her book, Sebastian deserved to rot here and maybe the other guys could enjoy their Saturday here as they were the ones Sebastian wanted to fight. Anita had really woven a net of reasons and all that jazz in her head and in some twisted way, it made sense to her. To her being the crucial part. Not that she was going to share. There was nothing to do about it anyway since they were here now.

At least Riley Gallagher came prepared and shortly after he settled in his seat, a cigarette pack appeared on the table, filled with so much more than casual cancer sticks. “You carry all this with you now?” she grinned, peeking in the box to see the little hearts she had tasted last Friday. Riley’s grin was enough to shake her head but this amused grin was gracing his lips. Samara arrived in time to see Riley’s presentation but she remained in the seat closer to the exit. She also commented on the fact that they had drugs on the table at school. Detention but still school and it made Anita chuckle. In a way, Sam was right.

But the second she mentioned Professor, another person appeared in the room and Anita narrowed her eyes, wrecking her mind what was Finn doing here. What role he played in the bonfire shenanigans. For the world, the brunette couldn’t even remember he was there. Was he though? Not until the very end. Or was she so caught up in her own drama that she missed him? But then the shy boy spoke up and Ani almost fell off the chair. He was in charge now? Damn, his father had to hate him or something. Who does that though? How can you send your child to supervise their fellow students? Unless you want them to be hated. Or beaten. Or bullied. Or all of the above. And as he asked them to work on their homework, Ani’s eyebrows jumped up. His voice trembled and uncertainty was pouring out from every pore on his body. Did the boy really expect them to start working?

Well, if he did, then tough luck. Dante was immediately up and went to get him, leading him to the back. “He’s right. You can totally join us, have fun for a change. What do you think?” Anita smiled at Finn, looking up from her seat through her thick eyelashes. The girl could be very much charming if she wanted and she kind of wanted now. Scooting her chair to the side, she made space for Finn to sit but Riley was already on it in his own way, holding a lit joint between index and middle finger of his right hand.

Anything that was happening in the front, Anita vigorously filtered until the very moment a shadow fell onto her. Once again, the brunette looked up only to see the new blonde. Her body tensed immediately, jaw clenched and she was ready for anything. Well, almost. She…apologized? Ani narrowed her eyes again, looking for a catch, trying to figure out what the trap was but there was none. She stood up, turning to face Miya completely. The girl was offering her this sweet treat and in the corner of her eye, she finally noticed the full buffet. The fuck? “Well…I guess you won’t miss one chocolate bar.” She commented with a hint of sarcasm, referring to the table full of food and took that Twix. Her mind was conflicted. She still didn’t think she was to blame but whether people believed it or not, Anita did make a huge progress from the very first day at IvyRose. “I guess I’m sorry too. Shouldn’t have thrown that fireball at you. He just…” In that moment, Riley handed her the joint and Ani grabbed it, bringing it to her red-painted lips, taking a long drag. “He just has that effect on me.” she motioned her head towards Sebastian. “You might not be as horrible as your fashion sense, I guess.” Ani smirked and in her own way, it was basically a compliment. After taking one more long drag, she offered the joint to Miya, blowing out a thick cloud of smoke. “Come join us then. If you feel so…” she shrugged and even offered her own chair. Look at her, who was she and what did she do to real Anita? The brunette herself walked to Dante and folded her petite frame in his lap.

In all honesty, Riley didn’t even mind being in detention anymore. It was a day like any other and he got to spend it with his friends. Granted, he would have planned different activities for a nice Saturday but overall, he would still hang out with Dante or Sam. Or maybe even Finn, once again trying to teach his roommate how to be a real, truest ladies man. The potential was there for sure, he simply needed to find his balls…err…voice. For now, Riley was taking a mild approach with him but if it didn’t work, there was a real chance he would borrow a certain Barney Stinson strategy and play a little game of “Haaaave you met Finn?” with him. See how that turned out.

For the time being though, Riley focused on getting through the detention and his little treats were supposed to help him. Anita and Dante seemed to be both very much pleased and as Dante pointed at one of the joints, Riley pulled it out and make sure the roll held properly. Sammy did not seem to be as thrilled and pointed out he should put his stuff away before the Professor came. “Where’s the fun in that?” he grinned but put the rest away. “Live like a legend, Sammy.” Riley’s creed. Not the best one but it got her this far, didn’t it? And as he was bringing the filter to his lips, his hand stopped midair. What the fuck was Finn doing here? Was he…? Ah, shit! In charge.

After processing the initial shock, a wide grin spread across Riley’s face and he high-fived Dante. With Finn boy here, this was not going to be so horrible. As Dante said, it was going to be a cake. Neither of them assumed Finn was going to tell on them or something. They just needed to be quiet, not like a pack of animals. Dante’s question hit his ear right after and for a moment, Riley didn’t understand what he was talking about. Only when his eyes followed where Dante was looking, Riley noticed Lyla talking to Sebastian. “Didn’t know she was into charity.” he scoffed but then Dante asked him to light the joint up and the rebel did not wait anymore, flicking his finger over his zippo lighter and created a cherry on the joint. Meanwhile, both Dante and Finn appeared at the table. “Finny! How did you deserve this, my good dude?” Riley asked, holding his first drag in his lungs a bit longer before letting smoke out from the corner of his mouth.

Seeing there was no place to sit, he leaned back and dragged a chair from the nearby desk closer, making a loud screeching sound. Then he pulled Finn down, ecstatic he had all his favorite people here. He also vaguely noticed that Miya approached the table and spoke to Anita, apologizing. This should be good, knowing Anita and her dragon persona. Indeed, the Latina stood up and Riley half-expected catfight. Imagine his surprise when Ani accepted the apology. However, what made his jaw drop even more was the fact that SHE APOLOGIZED BACK! Riley handed the joint over to the girl and looked at his friends at the table. “Am I already high or did we just witness a miracle?” he whispered, hoping Ani didn’t hear. “Anyway, Finn. You think you could do something about these pretties?” Riley asked and knocked on the collar around his neck which was becoming more and more obnoxious with every passing second.

Samara Seabrook.

  • Horror books, films, and plays had always been a place of solace for Samara. They were a place where she could escape and know that there were worse things in the world than what had happened to her. Stephen King was a master of horror story-telling, and The Shining had always been Sam's favorite, as was prevalent by the worn state of the book in her hands. Danny Torrance was, in a way, like the kids that attended IvyRose, gifted and haunted at the same time. She briefly wondered if King had taken inspiration from any real-life mutant. Wouldn't that be a terrible power, reading minds and seeing ghosts? Were ghosts even real? Given what she had seen while in attendance at the academy, Samara wouldn't be surprised.

Glancing over the top of her page, placing her finger on the page to mark her place, the shapeshifter smirked at Dante and Finn, and rolled her eyes. "Fine, do what you want. But if we get extended detention, I will personally rip you both limb from limb," she said, her tone teasing but her words semi-serious. Her eyes returned to the page, but only for a moment as it wasn't long before the boys began antagonizing poor Finnegan. Despite everything she had been through, Samara felt rather bad for the Headmaster's son. She couldn't imagine what it was like growing up underneath the shadow and pressure of such a powerful man and flawless reputation. So many eyes were constantly on him, not even a single hair could ever be out of place.

Dante stood and practically dragged Finn to where Riley and Anita sat. They wasted no time in lighting up a joint and Sam, suddenly feeling a little bit lonely, slipped her bookmark back between the pages. Letting out a sigh, she stood, briefly crossing the room to open a window before taking a seat alongside her friends. "Don't want the whole room to smell like your bedrooms, now do we," she teased, a smirk playing on her lips. To be honest, Samara also wondered what Finn did to deserve such a terrible punishment as having to be in charge of detention for the school's worst delinquents. Her collar shifted uncomfortably on her neck, no doubt leaving several scuffs and marks over the week of wearing it. The irony of the animal shapeshifter wearing what was essentially a shock collar was not beyond Sam, but she had avoided commenting on it.

Finn seemed fairly uncomfortable with what was going on. He stuttered over his words and rubbed the back of his own, bare neck. It was easy to tell he was conflicted about Riley's request, most likely wanting to do what his friends wanting but probably not wanting to disappoint or tarnish the reputation of his father. It was a hard spot to be in, and she wasn't entirely sure that the others really realized it. But then, a look of determination came across his face and, closing his eyes, he raised a hand. The collars around their necks made a small beeping noise before clicking open. One by one, they levitated away to be stacked neatly on the large desk at the front of the classroom. Sam reached up to rub her neck, a grin spreading across her face as a feeling of freedom washed over her. She clenched and unclenched her fist, revealing a set of sharp, feline claws.

"Oh, how I missed this," the aqua-haired beauty stated, her eyes flashing a dangerous amber for a moment before shifting back to their normal emerald green. Her claws retreated and she once again appeared as an unassuming, normal human. Sam was unable to quell the rapid beating of her heart, wanting to burst out of the school and sprint through the forest as whatever creature she damn well pleased. Adrenaline rushed through her veins and she wanted nothing more than to do something dangerous. Throw herself off a cliff and wait until the very last second to shift into a falcon, go swimming with the sharks without a cage, balance on the edge of a volcano, just something. "We should get out of here."

Finnegan Chambers.

  • The surprised looks on the faces of those in the classroom were not lost on Finn. He knew that he was probably the last person they were expecting to see, let alone be in charge of them. Despite having fairly incredible abilities, Finnegan couldn't help but think that everyone believed him to be weak. He stumbled over his words, couldn't look people in the eyes, and was practically scared of his own shadow. He kept his nose stuck in books and would much rather spend his evenings taking apart computers instead of drunk at some party. For these reasons, and many others, he didn't think he fit in, especially with the merry band of misfits currently in the room with him.

His thoughts were unfortunately answered as Riley and Dante seemed rather excited he was there. They certainly didn't consider him as any sort of authority figure. After all, when did he ever stand up for himself? His brown eyes scanned the room, finding Miya near the window. He offered her a smile and a wave of greeting. Though he was generally uncomfortable around girls, she was one of the easier women to talk to. She was bubbly and kind and, even though she was the resident 'new kid,' seemed to be acclimating to the academy faster than some of the other people he had showed around.

Finn was corralled over to the group that included Anita, Samara, Dante, and Riley, and he stiffened uncomfortably at the sight of the joint. He, of course, was no stranger to illicit substances. After all, he went to a school full of the world's misfits. But that didn't mean that he had, or wanted, any experience in taking them. "No, thanks, I'm o-okay," Finn began, scratching the back of his head sheepishly. "I really- th-think you should..." The brunette began to restate that they should be working on homework. But Anita spoke up, smiling at him under her lashes and he felt his heart began to race.

All of the women in the room were pretty in their own ways. And all of them made Finn nervous. He shifted uncomfortably and bit the inside of his cheek, hoping the pain would calm his racing heart as Finn pulled him down into the seat alongside them. It occurred to him that all of the people who truly accepted him were in that room, and the one that would rather see him fail was off, leaving his son to the wolves. What would happen if he disobeyed, if he didn't do what his father wanted him to? As a meta-learner, collector of all knowledge....wasn't it important for him to test a hypothesis, to find out, if only for a day?

"I don't know..." Finnegan said in response to Riley's notion about the collars, glancing around the room at the metal bands that encircled their necks. He rubbed his own neck absentmindedly, only having worn one of those despicable things when his father was testing them out. The meta-learner really did hate them, hate what they for, such as how the headmaster wanted to control everyone. Finn was tired of being under the scrutiny of his father, tired of constantly being afraid he was going to do something wrong and disappoint everyone. What would it feel like to do what he wanted without worry?

Raising a hand, Finnegan closed his eyes and felt the connection between his mind and the collars. He quickly reprogrammed them, turning them off without notifying the monitoring network. With a small beep, each of the collars popped open before moving to stack on the teacher's desk at the front of the class. Letting out a breath he didn't realizing he had been holding, a smile washed over his face. He did it, he defied his father. For once, the rush of adrenaline he felt wasn't negative, caused by his father or his own anxieties. It was freeing. Hearing Sam mention getting away from the school, a thought occurred to Finn. "I, uh... I know where they keep the keys to the school vans... Maybe we should take a trip into town?"

Lyla

loner

Spending her Saturday in detention didn't sound like the grandest of times, especially considering her company. Not that everyone was terrible to be around, she just didn't want more drama that would lead to them getting in more trouble. The headmaster instilled fear in alot of people, and Lyla was no different. The damned collars they'd been forced to wear were humiliating enough, but then again, Ly was used to the looks and whispers from the other pupils. She'd ignored them to the best of her ability, and planned to get through this day as quietly as possible.

As she sat next to Sebastian, her eyes were immediately drawn to the bandages wrapped around his hands. She knew it wasn't her place to apologize, but she also knew that Dante wasn't going to do it. Not in a million years. In fact, she was pretty sure she could feel his eyes boring into the back of her head even now, probably wondering what the hell she was doing talking to his mortal enemy. Well, she could say the same about Anita, but he just kept doing it. Maybe it was time for Lyla to branch out and find her own people, her own circle. Maybe.

At his high-five comment, a slow smirk spread on Lyla's face and a soft laugh tumbled from her lips. Without saying a word, she slowly reached for his wrist, picking it up and lifting his hand in the air. Gently, she brought her own hand to his, making sure not to actually high five him and hurt him, hoping her intent was clear. "There. High five accomplished." She set his wrist back down, her eyes flicking towards the blank homework sitting on his desk. It took her only a moment to realize that he was really screwed, and definitely would not be able to do it.

Reaching for the sheet, she picked it up and brought it closer, scanning the problems on the paper. "Oh, these are easy. I can help, if you want." She set the homework sheet down on her desk, reaching in her bag for her little pouch of pens. She found it and unzipped it, grabbing a black pen and then turning to write his name on the paper. Before she could ask him if he actually needed help with the problems or just writing them, she heard Finn's comments about the vans. Her head lifted and she glanced at Sebastian before she turned to look at the others and then back to her companion. "I can't believe them." Though she was grateful for the collar to be off, she didn't like how Dante and Riley seemed to be taking advantage of poor Finn.

Dante

loner

Dante had to admit he was surprised when Lyla didn't come join them. He'd seen the way she looked at Riley more than once, and he knew how attached she to was to himself. Other people scared her and gave her anxiety, made her feel as though she would lose control again, but she seemed to be chatting it up with Sebastian just fine. A stab of anger coursed through him, but it was Riley's comment about charity that brought a smirk to his face.

He shrugged and then turned his attention back to the group. He happily took the joint when it was passed his way, handing it off to the next person after two hits. He nearly choked when Miya came over and apologized to Anita, but that was nothing compared to when his favorite Latina actually apologized back. "I dunno, man." He looked at Riley, his eyes wide but shining with amusement. "I think we did just witness a miracle." He tilted his head back and laughed, his arm automatically snaking around Ani when she folded herself into his lap.

Looking back down, he leaned in to press his lips to her cheek, pulling her closer to him. He knew his (because yes, as far as he was concerned, she was his) Latina was spicy in attitude and other places as well. Like the bedroom, yes. He honestly expected another cat fight or fireballs to be thrown, but to his surprise, none of the above happened. "Proud of you, doll." He purred into her ear, his tongue darting out to trace the curve before he grinned slightly and leaned back some. The collars were next to come off, and Dante could have cheered. "Alright Finn!" He grinned. "Wish I could destroy those suckers."

He could see that Sam was itching to get out of there, and honestly, so was he. Before he could even come up with a suggestion, though, Finn mentioned knowing where they kept the keys to the vans. "Oh, fuck yes. That's what I'm fucking talking about." A huge grin spread on his face and he stood, keeping Anita in his arms, holding her bridal style as he grinned down at her. "What do you say, mariposa [butterfly]? Want to go on an adventure?" He knew she would, of course. He spun her around before setting her back down, making sure she was stable before letting go. "Let's fucking go!"

Ever since that car crash, Miya rarely had a thought-out plan and usually treated life as a series of moments, enjoying the present and dealing with the consequences along the way. She learnt that it only takes a second for one’s life to change completely. She and her parents also had many plans for the future and yet, here she was, all alone. The only one who was left of their once happy family. That is why she always went with what her heart felt, head first. That is also why she went to apologize to Anita. In the long run, their small banter would hold no importance. Once they all eventually turn to dust, there would be no trace of it in the map of the universe and that is why she chose to go and try to replace bad memories with happy ones.

Miya had no idea whether the Latina would accept her apology but once she did, she was honestly relieved. After all, she was not there to make enemies. She was there to get a sense of what it means to be a family again, not to be alone and even though Sebastian had his flaws, she was the only one she had left that she cared about. That is why she had to frown a bit when Anita made that remark about her best friend. She was sure that none of the people currently present at the table had no flaws. Just like them, Sebastian was also a human being, trying to play the hand he was dealt the best he could. “Yeah, I know. He has on many, even on me sometimes, but he is a good guy. It just takes extra patience with him, that is all,” she said softly and it could be heard in her voice that she was really fond of the guy. “Thank you for… whatever that was,” she said with a chuckle as she really was not sure whether Anita was paying her a compliment or not. Praising her personality just to immediately diss her fashion sense did not really seem like a textbook compliment to Miya but she thought that it was probably the best Anita could do and she was thankful to her for trying.

When it was her turn to take a hit from the blunt, Miya kindly rejected, adding that they do not have to bother in the future since this was not up her alley. She loved all kinds of fun and mischief but wanted to keep her head clear. Once the little dispute with Miss Anita was settled, the group started plotting some grand escape and that is when Miya’s eyes started glowing. Finally some adventure! As much as she loved Sebastian, he was a boring-ass person and the idea of going to the town with her new friends was simply an offer she could never refuse. A few minutes later, the collars of shame they were forced to wear for the whole week clicked open and in her mind, Miya had to praise Dante and Riley for their great manipulation skills. Poor Finn had no idea what hit him, but who was she to complain. The collar was not exactly the most comfortable thing and Miya was happy she got rid of that ugly thing. Not to mention the fact she had to wear a turtleneck the whole time to cover the huge bruise she had underneath it. The moment her collar, now covered in various cute stickers ranging from bunnies to flowers to butterflies to hearts, clicked open, it fell on the table, revealing her heavily bruised neck to the others. Miya let a nervous chuckle out and swiftly adjusted the collar of her turtleneck to cover the bruise again.

Once Finn mentioned that he knew how to get hold of school vans, it was all it took for Miya. The moment Finn finished the sentence, Miya stood up and grabbed him around his biceps, standing Finn on his feet along with her. Without warning she then jumped at his back, piggyback style, wrapping one arm around his chest and lifting the other into the air victoriously: “Lead the way, Finn! Hey! You two! Let’s go!” She shouted at Lyla and Sebastian, letting them know that everyone was leaving and there was no way that they were gonna stay behind.

Sebastian Pierce

Interactions: Miya Devotion Devotion Lyla apolla apolla

With the group around Dante being present, the detention already felt stranger than usual to Sebastian and now with Lyla trying for a social interaction with him, Sebastian could not say that he felt annoyed but not quite comfortable either. After all, he was not exactly the best at them as more often than not, they ended in physical violence. When the pale-haired girl reached out for his hand, his first instinct was to punch her in the face. Not that she had done something to provoke him, not at all, it was just his reflex, a one he developed during those countless hours of grappling training with his father. Thankfully, Sebastian was able to suppress his instinct, allowing Lyla to do whatever she was about to with his hand. Was it better than sitting on his own? Absolutely not. Was he curious, though? Absolutely.

To Sebastian, Lyla was one of the few people he had no problem with (yet). Which was a miracle provided that she was the sister of the most obnoxious person in the whole school. Lyla never spoke much, at least that is what Sebastian thought and he was genuinely surprised that out of all people in the whole detention, she chose to interact with him.

When she gently pressed her hand against his, Sebastian felt heat rising to his cheeks. He might have hated people, but he still was a man and like everyone, his mind also sometimes had inappropriate thoughts. However, he never took it seriously enough to try to get himself a girl. In his mind, all these impulses were attributed to the fact that he was a male and they always had the urge to spread their seed to secure the continuation of their gene pool. Sebastian had a hard time looking for an answer and it seemed like Lyla was aware of it. Sparing them the awkward silence that was imminent if the rest of the situation was left in Sebastian’s hand, Lyla snatched his notes and started doing his homework, providing cute commentary as she was filling out equation after equation. “Yeah, I know they are,” he agreed with her remark on how easy the problems were to show her he was no dummy. It was just that with those stupid-ass bandages, there was so much he could do about them. “I mean… thanks.”

Watching the blank page getting filled with black ink, the whole situation did not sit well with Sebastian. He did not remember asking Lyla for help and he was not exactly the person that people were competing to do favours for. The more he watched her, the more suspicious he was growing of her motives. Could it be that she was setting him up? She was Dante’s sister after all. Maybe that was some twisted joke Dante was trying to pull on him to get him back for the bonfire night. For what other reason would she come to him. Why not after all these years of attending the same school? He was sinking deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of his toxic thoughts when suddenly, the whole room echoes with shock collars clicking open, his being no exception.

Instinctively, Sebastian raised his hands to remove the collar but it was another thing he could not do because of the bandages. “Stupid fucking things!” he said angrily as he started tearing them down with his teeth. He had enough of that stupid theatre for the sake of keeping Miya’s powers a secret. Who cared if the rest of the people knew what they were. No one cared anyway as students of IvyRose were so full of themselves that they had no time thinking about others. Sebastian totally zoned out while taking care of the bandages that he had no idea that the rest of his fellow detention classmates were one foot on their way outside. Only after his hands were finally free, he heard Miya’s voice coming his direction. “You never learn, do you? I am not coming,” he said dryly and rested his back against his chair.

bitch

Making peace with Miya was unexpected even for Anita herself. She was not known for being anywhere near forgiving and what Miya had pulled at the bonfire, Ani usually punished way more harshly. In her book, she didn’t even deserve to be in detention because what she did was basically only a reaction to what Sebastian started. But here they were, all eight of them, sitting around and all Anita could say was thank god for Riley and his stupid ideas because his blunt was making Ani feel relaxed already after two deep drags. Her pupils mellowed a little and so when Miya told her Sebastian was essentially a good guy, Ani giggled. Somehow, she found that hard to believe but she was not going to get into that now. No need for yet another argument. Apparently, Miya knew a different version of Sebastian Pierce than everyone else.

After Miya rejected the blunt, Ani handed it back to Riley before inviting Miya to join their circle. She herself went to take a seat in Dante’s lap. The two truly behaved like a couple yet they never really put a label on anything. And Anita assumed it fit them both to be this no strings attached mischievous thingie. But no matter the missing label, she belonged to him and he was hers. Any bitch lurking around him was risking scorched eyebrows. He purred in her ear he was proud of her, letting the sensitive skin on her ear tingling as his tongue touched her there.

“Decided to be a good girl for once.” she purred right back at him, nuzzling his face gently. Suddenly the collars clicked and Ani felt her neck being freed as that damned device stopped stretching her turtleneck collar and flew back to the table, folding neatly onto a pile. Ani sighed in relief and rubbed her neck where the collar was squeezing her delicate skin for the whole week. “Finn…you are an absolute sweetheart.” she turned to the nerdy boy, sending him a charming sweet smile. “Thank you so much.” she added right before he mentioned he knew about the school vans. Look at that, somebody was getting wilder. Flashing a smile at Riley and Dante, who were probably mainly responsible for Finn loosening up, she was about to say something when Dante stood up abruptly with her still in his arms.

Anita squealed softly, lacing her fingers behind his neck. Her cheeks colored with a soft rouge shade when he called her mariposa. “Always, cariño [honey].” she laughed, answering him in a similar way. Ani appreciated that little Spanish detail as Dante always did something a little extra, something special which made her feel comfortable around him. He spun her around before setting her back to the ground and Ani laughed some more, trying to find her balance again. Only then she noticed Miya getting a piggyback ride from Finn and her eyebrows jumped up a little. Well, okay, Miya, you do you. But what made Anita genuinely laugh was when she actually turned to Lyla and Sebastian, inviting them to come. Sebastian gave a usual answer and Ani scoffed. “As if he knew how to have fun. Let’s go already. Where are the keys, Finn?” the Latina turned her attention to the principal’s son, eager to finally leave the grim classroom.

rebel

There were many people who could find Riley just another waste of space boy. After all, all his hobbies indicated that. he was pretty much interested in having fun, smoking, getting high and pretty girls. To sum it up. But it was not always this way. Riley, believe it or not, used to be a straight A student back as a kid. And he would continue this trend through out middle and high school as well, had it not been for the daddy dearest. From one day to another, Riley’s life turned upside down and though his father was always a violent person, the more he drank, the stronger he hit. Riley found himself in a position where protecting his younger sister Linda was the most important and everything else went aside.

The boy realized there were different, more important things in life and school stopped being the center of his universe. Suddenly having all free time in the world, he had to fill it with different activities and thanks to his developing power, becoming a successful shoplifter was only a matter of time. It was how he ended up at IvyRose. But his distaste for studies remained the same. Riley simply always did just enough. And once he was here, once his and Dante’s paths crossed, Riley knew he found a pal for life.

If Dante didn’t do it, Riley would definitely pull Finn over to their table. But his nerdy roomie was there, sitting with them like it should be. Lighting up a blunt might have been risky but Riley loved living on the edge. The blunt was passed around the table and only Miya refused to have some so the boy took it from Anita and offered Finn some. “You could use some loosening up, Finny-boy. Relax. Your dad is not here.” Riley laughed, leaning back in his chair. So far, the only surprise was Anita not tearing Miya apart with her own teeth which he and Dante commented enough. But when Finn actually took their collars off, Riley almost jumped up. “Duuude! You actually did it!” he hollered, ruffling Finn’s hair. “I could just kiss you, little man. I swear, you’re the real MVP.” Riley went on, laughing and just being genuinely happy that the collar was gone.

To top it all off, Finn mentioned keys and school vans, Riley was ready. He immediately packed up all his goodies. Dante was all caught up with his fling and Miya grabbed Finn, jumping up on his back. Riley almost choked on the last hit he took from his blunt but decided not to comment. He just knew that poor Finn was not exactly used to so much female attention. First Anita’s flirty smiles and looks and now Miya? One lucky dude right there. Zipping his bag up, Riley threw it on his back and turned to Sam just in time to see her claws. “Come on, Sammy. Let’s get out of here.” he smiled at his partner in crime, slinging his arm over her shoulders, steering her towards the exit. “You heard the lady, Finn. Lead the way. And you two…stop dicking around. Lyla, Pierce, chop chop, your homework is not going anywhere.”

Samara Seabrook.

  • What went largely unnoticed by the population was how animalistic humans truly were. But, after experiencing both sides, it was all too easy for Samara to see the primal natures of the people around her. Despite personality or reputation or morals, most people wanted the same thing as animals: to be on top of the food chain. And they would do whatever they could in their power to get there. It had been the demise of several world leaders, business executives, and even her own father. Even as the strange, gifted mutants that they were, IvyRose had instilled in her the underlying belief that the world was 'kill or be killed.' The problem was Sam couldn't decide which she would rather do.

But at that moment, the aqua-haired beauty couldn't worry about the future. After being locked up for a week, it was time to let her hair down, feel the breeze flow through her fur or her feathers, and anything in between. With her claws hidden away, a normal girl again to the unknowing eye, Sam couldn't help the grin of relief that washed across her features. She was ready to take on the world and, lucky enough for them, Finn knew the perfect way to get out of there. Samara slipped her book back into her backpack before zipping it close and slipping it over her shoulder. As she hopped down from her desk, she felt a comforting arm stretch over her shoulders, pulling her into the familiar warmth that was Riley.

Riley was her first friend at the academy, and generally the person she trusted the most. They had been through a lot together, though most of it was random, reckless tasks to try and push the limits of their existence. Sam knew that she could always count on him to feed into her adrenaline junkie ways. Pulling her from her thoughts was Sebastian's voice from where he sat with Lyla across the room. While Sam particularly enjoyed the company of the latter's older brother, she couldn't say she was too fond of the silver-haired storm. To Sam, Lyla was too rigid, too cynical, unable to let loose. Her emerald eyes found the brunette man alongside Lyla, and Samara said, "Well, I'll keep an eye on Miya if you don't want to come. I can't promise trouble won't find us though." With that, she let Riley steer her out of the room and down the hall behind Finn.

The halls of the academy were surprisingly empty when compared to the busy school day crowds. Sam half-expected to run into some faculty member who forced them to go back to that jail of a classroom. But thankfully, there were none. It was almost like Finnegan knew exactly how to navigate the halls to avoid running into anyone. Hell, the kid grew up there, so maybe he did. They ended up in the garage below the academy where all the vehicles were stored, paused by a white van that would fit all of them rather easily. Though Sam wasn't really a fan of being underground, she could quell her excitement of finally being far off-campus for the first time in quite some time. "Alright, Golden Boy. What next?"

Finnegan Chambers.

  • Finnegan's life had mostly been black or white, there were no gray areas. There was either wrong or right, and wrong was always punished. He was expected to be perfect all the time, regardless of his age or experience level. Headmaster Chambers demanded the best from his son. But it hadn't always been that way. Though she had disappeared when he was fairly young, Finn still remembered bits and pieces of his mother. She had a gorgeous smile, a light and calming voice that could make someone feel good even on their darkest days. Marianne Chambers saw the good in everyone, and that was reflective in her gifted abilities. She was a healer, able to use her own life force to fix the injuries of others. Though it took a lot out of her, and her husband was pretty much a terror, Marianne never complained. And then she was gone.

Aside from Sebastian and Lyla, the others all seemed rather excited that the collars had been removed from their necks. It made Finnegan feel important, powerful, and most importantly, wanted. Dante spun around with Anita before sitting her down, and the brunette meta-learner couldn't help but wonder how he and Riley were so apparently good with women. He could read all the books in the world and he would still stutter in anxiety when a girl showed him any sort of attention. Speaking of which, Finn felt his cheeks warm with chagrin when Anita shot a charming smile his way. He scratched the back of his neck sheepishly, unsure of how to respond and therefore just not. Yep, smooth.

As soon as he even mentioned knowing about the vans, he felt someone grab on to him and pull him to his feet. Chocolate brown eyes found the pretty blonde that had latched on to him, the blush on his cheeks darkening in surprise. His heart began to race faster, unsure of what to do or how to respond. "Uh... w-wait-" he tried to start. But before he could get any more words out, Miya practically pounced on to his back. If it wasn't for all the time his father made him spend weight-training and working out, Finnegan was sure he would have been knocked over in sheer surprise. But he was able to catch his bearings, instinctively hooking his arms behind her knees to hold her in place. Thinking it probably best not to argue with the current situation, the brunette simply nodded and lead the way out of the room.

Finnegan had grown up in IvyRose Academy, knew every curve and turn, every shortcut and secret passage. The blueprints of the buildings and the layout of the campus were practically tattooed in his mind. So, it wasn't hard for him to navigate the halls in a way that would ultimately avoid any interactions with the others who might be on campus. He continued to carry Miya on his back, heart still racing but becoming somewhat comfortable with the arrangement, down a flight of stairs until they were standing in the garage by a set of white vans.

"Alright, this is the end of the l-line for Chambers B-Bus services," he said, though he winced slightly at home lame that had sounded. Nevertheless, he sat Miya down on her feet and turned towards the others, hearing Sam's question. "Keys are kept in the glove boxes of the vans and there's usually a door code to get in. Lucky for us though," Finn continued, placing his hand on the van's door handle. His mind melded with the vehicle's internal computer for a moment and the locks popped free. "I have a cheat code. Someone else has to drive though, I'm terrible at it."

It would seem Lyla's Saturday was going to be full of surprises. From getting detention in the first place to Finn being the leader of their ragtag group, to the collars being removed and now to everyone seeming interested in skipping detention. Lyla personally wasn't a fan of getting in trouble more, but at the same time, who's to say they would? If Chambers trusted Finn to watch them and he truly was in charge, then they could probably leave and no one would be any wiser. Unless it was a test, and they were bound to fail. This is how Lyla's brain worked, though, she often saw both sides of a situation and she hated it. She was far from as carefree as her brother, and while she knew she probably didn't want to be, she also knew that it'd be nice to be able to let go sometimes.

Snapping out of her reverie when she heard Miya addressing her and Sebastian. Lyla's eyes slid over to the latter when he leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms and flat out refusing. Though it brought a slight smirk to her face, she heard Riley's accented voice next. Looking at Sebastian's homework still on the desk in front of her, she sighed softly. Once again, the girl was torn between what to do. She'd normally just sit here and end up helping Sebastian with his homework, maybe sit in awkward silence after. They weren't friends, after all. She'd just approached him because she felt a kindred soul in him.

But for some reason, today was different. Looking over at the door, she realized that the others really had left her and Sebastian behind. "They really wanted us to come, didn't they?" She chuckled, tapping her pencil on the desk before her for a moment before she finally made her decision. "I'm going." She finally said, sliding her gaze once again over to Sebastian. "If you don't wanna go, then stay. But... you never know. It could be fun." She stood, setting his homework back in front of him. Riley was right, the homework would still be there when they got back.

With a smile tugging at her lips, she grabbed her bag and slung it over her shoulder, following the path the others had taken out of the room. Though she couldn't see them at first, she heard their loud voices, and followed that. She caught up to them when they reached the garage, her mouth forming a small 'o' shape as she looked around at all the vans. "Yet we have to stay trapped here." She mumbled, adjusting her bag as she finally approached the group. Watching Finn unlock one of the vans, unlocking the door with his mind but then claiming someone else had to drive. Looking around at the group, Lyla wasn't sure she'd trust any of them. But maybe... "Sam." She finally said, her eyes landing on the green haired beauty. She seemed the most sane out of all of them, plus Ly hadn't seen her take anything.

Dante

loner

Dante knew he really liked Anita. Would he go so far as to call it love? Well, no. Dante wasn't the settle down type, but he was the jealous and possessive type, and he knew that he didn't want Anita to belong to anyone else. As far as he knew, she felt the same way. If he found out otherwise, it would fucking suck and be a huge blow to his ego, and there might be some fighting involved between him and whoever the guy was. But as he lifted Anita into his arms and spun her around, a bright smile appeared on his face, aided by the fact that Finn was ready to break them out of detention. A squeal left Anita's lips as she wrapped her hands around his neck, answering him with a spanish nickname of her own. His grin widened and he set her down, ready to follow Finn and the others out.

He didn't bother calling back to Lyla or Sebastian; he honestly figured they wouldn't want to go. But Miya and Riley extended the invitation, and he figured that was good enough. Sliding an arm around Anita's waist, he grinned over at Riley as he threw an arm around Sam, and the six of them left the room. Suddenly Dante was in a much better mood, and he wasn't sure if it was the marijuana or the fact that they were breaking the rules. Getting caught didn't even occur to him, because as far as he knew, Finn was in charge and that was that.

The nerdy boy expertly led them through the hallways to the garage where the vans were parked, and he placed his hand on one of the door handles. Unlocking the van with his mind, Dante whistled in appreciation as he heard the locks click. "My man." He grinned, releasing Anita to clasp a hand on the nerd's back. When he mentioned someone else driving, Dante was quick to open his mouth to volunteer, but he wasn't fast enough. Hearing his sister's voice from behind the group, he turned, giving Lyla a look of interest. "Well, look who decided to break out of her shell after all."

Realizing what she'd said, though, Dante made a show of frowning. "What's the matter, sis? You don't trust me to drive?" Not that he was the greatest driver, and if he were being honest, maybe Sam was the best option. Shrugging, he looked at the aqua haired girl, his grin returning. "What do you say, Sam? You wanna do the honors?" Jumping in the driver's seat, he leaned over and popped the glove compartment, grabbing the keys from inside. Jingling them in his hands, he turned in the seat, offering them to Sam. "You might be the safest bet, after all."

Miya was not really surprised by Sebastian’s response to her invitation. “No”, “get out” and “I’d rather die” were the only possible replies to any fun suggestion that he apparently had in his vocabulary, but that never discouraged Miya from trying. Until you ask, the reply is always a no and who knew, maybe one day, Sebastian would voluntarily join in on a social event without being forcefully dragged by Miya. Although they usually ended in a disaster more often than not, there were a few instances that brought a smile to Sebastian’s face. Just like the one time when Miya was 10 and fell on her rollerskates, breaking both of her arms.

Normally, she would either drag him along just like many times before or stay with him, pouting for a while until she would find a way to amuse herself, but seeing that he had a company, she figured that it would not be such a tragedy if she joined the group alone just this once. The promise of adventure was way too tempting to be turned down. “Your loss, bestie,” she said and allowed Finn to continue taking both of them towards the garage.

The way to the garage took shorter than expected, probably because of the piggyback. Knowing how Finn was, Miya honestly thought she would not get away with it at first, but seeing Finn being a good sport about it and actually carrying her all the way to the garage brought a wide smile to Miya’s face. The remark he made when he put her back on the ground made Miya chuckle at how cute it was. “I will make sure to leave your business a 5-star review,” she chuckled back and watched as everyone slowly started to get into the van.

Thankfully, Lyla shared Miya’s concern with who would be responsible for driving and sparked a debate on it before she could. Miya had seen first-hand what damage a driver with a clouded mind could do and felt deep discomfort with having any of the stoned classmates drive.

Once everyone except for Miya was in the van, she put a hand on the van’s door to make sure they would not be closed before she would allow it to be closed, putting her right leg inside, the left half of her body peeking out of the van, her eyes glued to the doors to the garage that were behind the van. “Yay! He is coming!” she shouted suddenly when Sebastian’s grumpy face appeared in the doorframe and started clapping excitedly.

Seeing how it had turned out the last time he had joined Miya in her social interactions with IvyRose’s brats, rejecting her offer was a no-brainer, really. Over the years, he had his fair share of Anita’s entitlement, Dante’s and Riley’s bragging and he did not feel any urge whatsoever to witness more of it. And something was telling him that Lyla felt the same. Not that he cared whether he would stay in the classroom alone, but it was always nice seeing Dante’s own sister turning her back on him, hence he would welcome if she stayed as well in the end.

When Lyla stood up and informed Sebastian that she had decided to join them after all, Sebastian could not hide his surprise. She was bitching about him, calling him a dick even, just a few minutes ago and now she is joining them? For what? For fun? Sebastian really started doubting whether he was the only sane person in the whole class if even Lyla started thinking any event with her brother or Anita could result in fun. “Yeah, just like last time,” he reacted grumpily to her remark about fun and turned in his seat to face the window.

He turned back to face the classroom when he heard the doors close behind Lyla and the silence of the classroom was almost deafening. He really was alone, eh? Not even Miya stayed with him? For some reason, Sebastian’s pride got hurt by the fact that everyone followed Dante and that douchebag Riley and he started contemplating whether he made the right decision by not joining them. What if the stoned part of the group got too distracted to pay attention at a pedestrian crossing and got struck by a truck, dying instantly - then it indeed could be fun in the end. Sebastian chuckled at the thought, his mind travelling to poor Finn. His father would eat him alive if anything happened to students of IvyRose during the time he was supposed to be responsible for them.

The thought brought a hellish idea to Sebastian’s mind. Mr. Chambers would surely hate to find out that his little boy and the rest of the students broke out of the detention, stealing a van even, probably resulting in more detention for the perpetrators, suspension even, hence solving Sebastian’s problem with the cocky trio for good. What more, it would surely elevate Sebastian in the principal's eyes.

With that thought, Sebastian took his smartphone and started running to the garage, hoping to catch the group before they would be completely gone. A picture speaks a thousand words and Sebastian wanted the perfect evidence. A picture of the van leaving the garage sent to Mr. Chambers would do it.

When he made it to the garage, he was met with Miya’s enthusiastic cheering and something inside Sebastian broke. “Yeah” he said as he put his smartphone into his back pocket. He slowly made his way to the van, getting in without a word, sitting all the way in the back. Miya joined him immediately, locking her arm around his. “So, where are we going?” he asked in a reserved manner.

bitch

Detention was definitely a scene of one Anita Villareal. Not that she was some obnoxious goody-2-shoes but there were ways for the Latina to avoid such humiliating measures as being sent to detention. Back at her old high school, she knew how to skate around trouble and while she caused majority of problems herself, it was always someone else who got punished. At IvyRose, it was more difficult, especially because all kids were gifted in some sort of way. Dragging them into taking a fall for her shenanigans was not that easy but no one could ever blame Ani for not being resourceful. And yet, apparently she pushed her luck too much since she was in the dreaded classroom right now. Granted, it could have been worse, much worse. The punishment was not exactly a real one and being supervised by Finn, well, that was certainly one bright idea.

As it would turn out, it was the stuttering nerdy boy who gave them freedom. First, by removing the collars and then by suggesting taking the school vans for a spin. If she had to be quite frank, Finn was the least likely person to do this, that was exactly why Ani was so surprised but Dante took her mind off of it by lifting her up and spinning her around as if they were this young couple freshly in love. Yet love was the furthest term from what they were. Jealousy and possessiveness of each other was pulling them together just the same as the other couples were attracted by love and compassion. Dante was not Anita’s endgame, or at least she never saw him like that. But for the time being, any bitch would lurk around him, Ani would cut her. That Hispanic blood was hot and wild and her energy had to go somewhere.

Anita would honestly be much more content if neither Lyla nor Sebastian joined their little merry group but yeah, Lyla was already walking after them. Ani did her best not to groan out loud as she was not interested in another conflict. Having her fire doused by a sticky liquid once was enough. Dealing with an unstable weather girl was not on agenda today so she simply walked on, trying to occupy her mind with something else. Had she known Finn would be so amazing and get them rid of those neck contraptions, she would definitely not have worn a turtleneck. Ugh, she hated those. Yet, they were perfect for hiding that hideous metal collar on her neck.

Once the group arrived at the garage, it seemed getting in the cars would actually be the problem but Finn had an easy fix for that as well, opening the door easily. Driving a van was not exactly Anita’s dram so she did not even join that little contest for the wheel. But she did open her mouth once they all agreed Sam should be the one to drive. “Shotg---!” she started to call her seat when a hand landed on her mouth, muffling the rest. “No can do, doll, you’re gonna sit in the back with lover boy, shotgun’s mine.” Riley grinned, showing off those pearly whites, and hopped in the passenger seat. Anita huffed, killing him with her gaze, rolling her eyes over his antics and climbed to the back, picking her seat, leaving the one next to her empty. She didn’t really care who was taking it. Unless it was Lyla. Or Sebastian who apparently decided he needed to come as well. Why though, that was behind Anita’s comprehension.

rebel

Life changed Riley Gallagher quite a lot. Of course, it did, considering the whole spectrum of moods and emotions he had had to go through back at home. After witnessing quite a few horrors of domestic violence, the boy was stripped of all illusions and visions for the future and while he was not the biggest victim at home and definitely could explain a few black eyes and hide the other bruises daddy dearest bestowed upon him, watching your mother slowly wither away until she became only a ghost of a woman she used to be, only a fragment of a person she once was, it left a real impact on young Riley and he stopped seeing the sense of planning the future. There were times he was actually thinking about college, getting an academic scholarship, that he would make something of himself and his family would be proud of him. Such a childish naïve idea. His father couldn’t even recognize his own children anymore, his mom spent her days trembling in the corner popping god knows what pills and Linda, she rather ran away as much as she could, only came home for bed.

In a way, IvyRose might have been the best thing that ever happened to Riley. As much as he fought when brought here, this place became his real home and the friends he acquired here, they were like his family. And while not many people approved of his way of life, little did Riley care. It was no one else’s business anyway. He found a brother from another mother here. Dante was the partner in crime Riley had always wanted and throughout the years, the two built an adamantium-like bond. Riley would catch a grenade for the dude and knew the feeling was mutual. Same went for Lyla who became like his IvyRose equivalent of Linda. Little sister he felt the need to protect. And then there was Sam. Samara. Yet another partner in crime but at much different level than Dante. While Dante was up for any bullshit Riley came up with, Sam was the same with the adventurous moments. Riley was now living his YOLO part of life and decided he needed to try everything, not regarding his health much. Sammy was always up for an adrenaline adventure and Riley adored her for never saying no to him.

It was usually Riley coming up with ideas which would get everyone in trouble and that was why he was incredibly surprised when Finn not only removed the collars, but also suggested a field trip, taking the school vans. Riley was immediately up for it, joining the aqua-haired girl’s side on the way out. The group made their way down to the garage, Finn leading them this whole time. It was a real, even earth-shaking, surprise to see the nerdy boy taking charge of things but the resident rebel welcomed it very much. He always thought Finn needed to let loose a little and maybe this was his way of doing so, rebelling against his father. One way or another, Riley was high enough to take on any trouble on their way and when Finn also managed to open the driver’s door, he was ready to get in and grab the wheel. Yet the conversation unveiled on who should drive and apparently, a few people were not comfy with DUI of any type so Riley gave up his ideas. But then Sammy was voted to drive and it cheered him up a bit. In that case, he could claim…

Anita was faster, claiming the shotgun already but before the word fully left her lips, Riley muffled her and sent her to the backseat. The Latina pouted and shot a dagger or two out of her eyes but the brunette was ignoring her glares and hopped in the passenger’s seat. “Sammy, come on! What you’re waiting for?” he called at his best gal and leaned back in his seat. It was Miya’s squeal that brought his attention to the last participant. “Oh, great…” he groaned, seeing Sebastian coming closer. “Get your ass in, Pierce, if you’re coming. We’re leaving.” he hollered and turned to the rest of the crew. “So for real now, where to? Mall? Zoo? Cinema? Escape rooms? Theme park?” he posed a few options, wondering what the others were in a mood for.
