Sam has his own sense of justice in this forsaken world, as one who is firm that one must accept and face the consequences of their choices, and those who commit crimes must be willing to directly receive punshments. He perceives his heart failure the accumulated consequence of the crimes he commited to survive. He is also straightforward in a way that can come off as rude, but way more calm and cool-headed than he used to be, accepting that unrelenting anger will only hurt those around them more, as he doesn't wish to add more suffering to this already hell people live in. With a firey burning inside him that allowed him to make it this far in life, and he isn't going to stop now. However, in the back of his mind. He naively wishes to gain a semblance of power to be someone who can bring change to this hellish world.
Biography
Sam's earliest memory he can recall was him goring down on a protein bar, shedding tears. He was completely alone, without anyone to call a friend or family.
Growing up in the backstreets, especially as an orphan, is no small feat. With few resources, and fewer allies, in what is considered one of the hellish placees to live in. One must quickly adapt to their surroundings. While he did have a place to sleep and a bit to eat at a rundown orphanage he often got beaten at for not bringing enough cash. He had to work It was the same for anyone else, and it was the same for Samuel. By observing and adapting to his surroundings, he managed to develop a strategy to survive, til the ripe old age of 14. Whether it was by doing odd jobs, picking through the trash, or stealing.
The only reprieve he had on the streets which made him more disposed to work of a more violent disposition, was fighting. Taking up fistfighting with anyone who challenged him, and often lost. Yet, with every loss he survivied, he gained new insights on how to fight. He used this talent of his to fight in illegal ring for cash, and he became pretty okay at it. Slowly receiving money that he wishes to one day utilize to free himself from the shithole he grew up in. However, even such a simple dream can be crushed in an instance.
It was a day like any other. Wake up, go to school, and go to work. He'd just got out of school and started his work. Yet, he felt something was wrong. His heart felt faint, and breathing became hoarse. He'd experienced this before and thought nothing of it, however he quickly lost conciousness. He'd had woken up in a medical ward with the diagnoses that his heart was failing him, and was given a choice. To either wait for a compatable heart donor, to purchase a Bioware Heart, or to die. A donor heart was an extremely risky opton as even if they did find a heart donor, they'd always go to the highest bidder and mostly used for experimentations for cyberware. As he was really left with the option of an artificial heart, which he could only purchase only by receiving a loan from the local gang that ran the illegal ring he worked in.
The surgery was a grand success, however that was only one of the many obstacles he had to overcome. He needs money, and rigging fights isn't going to cut it, for both his pride and his life. The only thing he could turn to was Academy Six. Graduating Academy Six is the only option he really has, as those with a diploma are highly saught after in the corporate world. As proof of a formal education, even one as lowly as Academy Six, will provide him with opportunities to claw his way up. However, he first needs to raise his grades.
Hobbies
- Mixed Martial Arts: The backstreets has disposed Sam to hobbies of a more violent kind, thankfully however, this turned into a more positive interest in a wide range of Martial Arts from an early age, of both traditional and unorthodox disciplines. He taught himself anything he could get his hands on, from Brazilian Jujitsu, Boxing, Judo, Wushu, really anything he could pick up on. He wishes to cultivate this self taught hobby into something greater, currently, he utilizes these skills to participate in illegal rings to pay off his debt. Always wishing that he had someone who could actually coach him.
- Swordplay: More recently, his interests in Martial Arts has begun to develop into another form, having Sam focus more on the blade due to a desire to learn , it's more lax regulations and just how cool the moves he’d seen on the web are. From Kenjutsu, HEMA, Kendo, and Capoeira.
- Engineering: While surviving on the streets in a highly sophisticated and advanced society, you tend to pick up a few knowhow and tidbits of the more mechanical type. Ranging from how to jury rig a broken down generator to strip cybernetics off those who "don't need it" anymore.
Backstabbed: "Always watch your back" Is probably one of the first and most important lesson Sam had learnt on the streets, next to another equally important lesson of "Always carry a fresh pair of socks". Sam has taken this lesson to heart, causing him to being constantly paranoid of being betrayed and scapegoated by those he trusts.Katsaridaphobia: The vilest scum on this planet. They can survive beatings, cuts, and even their heads being ripped off. They're everywhere and anywhere, no matter where you'd looked. In trash bins, junkyards, even on your bed. Whenever Sam sees one, he tends to freeze up until it wanders away far enough, or someone else exterminates it.
Cybernetic Enhancements
Bioware Heart: Sam was diagnosed with a once incurable, rare heart defect, making Sam highly susceptible to heart organ failure and the only way to survive was to receive an entirely new heart. However, getting a compatible donor is nearly impossible for him. Fortunately, thanks to the wonders of modern medicine, he was given another option, for it to be treated immediately; The Bioware Heart is a highly sophisticated, durable type of cybernetic, made of a combination of lab grown biomass and cybernetic technology, allowing for it to both grow with the bearer, while enhancing blood flow, oxygen processing, and being able to utilize both artificial and natural forms of adrenaline. Allowing Sam to improve his endurance greatly. However, to receive such treatment, he had to go into debt with a local gang. Leaving him with an immense amount of debt which he was "graciously" offered to work off by conducting rigged caged matches.
Relationships
Rin Tanaka: Her piercing filled face looks be difficult to clean, and last name is... I get this strange feeling of familiarity from it, I can't pin down exactly from where though... maybe I've seen her from somewhere? Still, she seems like someone who generally wants to live a semblance of a normal life.
Miruno Asagahawa: Rigwiz that's an ass, and is quite wary of me. With no sense of class... and her annoying "haikus" are imprinting onto me as well. But, it's certainly more creative than the old pattern of insult.
Veronica Jessica Patterson: The Deposed Heiress of Pearson Tech; I used to despise her, one born with a diamond-encrusted platinum spoon in her mouth, and the worst type of bourgeois. One who got what she wants, whenever she wants, without knowing the cost. Yet now, I'm not so certain of that... I mean, why would she be here otherwise?
Niko Royce Becker: Local Cyberjunkie and Military Geek, and a highly competent one at that. In a one on one fistfight, I'll certainly be victorious. However, all it would take is one well placed bullet from him. Unpersonable as he may be, I can certainly learn a thing or two about how to fight.
Natsuriro Ilya: Articulate and tired; traits of those from the uppers escalon of life. I don't know why they chose to be here but, if it ruffled a few peacock feathers, it's something even I can appreciate.
Cairn Orias: Hyperawareness to a fault. Constantly aware of the world around him and difficult, complex issues surrounding the city. He's also the only one who actively discusses things with me. Whenever I see him either glued reading, or typing something out. It's like he's a completely different person... Do I look like that in the ring too?
Basil Abbot: Quiet and Unmoving, like a stone, or a monk. I don't know much about him however, he does have a faint lingering stench of the sea, does he live by the seashore?
Viviane Browning: Personable and cheery, the social butterfly of Academy Six. I try to avoid her attention as she is someone who seems a bit... ungrounded in reality most of the time. However, the few times i've interacted with her. I enjoyed it. Always remembering the small details I tell her about.
