Realistic or Modern It Started With Rain

Derek turned round to Destiny, smiling lightly and rubbing his sweaty forehead. Holding his helmet with one hand. Replying to her kind words with "I'm just doing my job ma'am. No need for a thanks." And those words were true, he was always the humble and modest one. He didn't like taking the glory for most things, he only did take the job as a firefighter to help people, and to be a hero, but not one of the ones that was put on TV constantly and took all the glory, just one that a few people looked up to.

Rubbing his hand through the small girl's hair. Looking up to Destiny. "Alright, get in the fire truck. We need to get to the Town Hall, I'm just trying to keep you both safe." He said as he climbed into the 2nd row of seats in the fire truck, extending both his arms for Destiny and the girl to get in also.

Destiny looked up at the sky, silently begging for the little girl's information to be true. Science was never Destiny's strong suit, so she couldn't quite know for sure. She didn't want another tornado to happen, that's for sure. When Derek holds out his arms Destiny holds Kat up and places her in the firetruck, before clambering in with the help of Derek's arm. "Thanks." She says, she then realized that she must have said that word to this man countless times, and each time he said I'm just doing my job. It was amazing how some people could be so selfless, and Destiny smiled at the thought. She knew she was in safe hands as soon as Derek showed up at the diner and drug her away from the fire, and now she was completely sure that he would do anything in his power to get them to complete safety.

Destiny stroked the cat in the girl's arms, simultaneously stroking the girl's head, trying to keep her calm. She casually begins to hum a song, one of her favorite lullabies. Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high, there's a place that I heard of once in a lullaby. She hoped that it would lighten the atmosphere, because even as she was in the firetruck she could feel the rumble of thunder that shook her surroundings. She didn't like the feel of it, and she figured neither did the girl.

As Derek helped the two into his fire truck, the rest of the sort of convoy they had going already began driving, everyone in a hurry to get to the Town Hall. Derek had given the other firefighters instructions to get there as fast as they could, no time to wait for anyone else. As Destiny thanked him he simply shaked his head, smiling warmly and replying with his rather modest quote "I'm just doing my job ma'am." Leaning over to the front of the truck and letting the driver know that they were ready, he shut the door with a loud slam as the truck began to move rather quickly. Its sirens now blaring as it hastily made its way down main street.

Derek looked over to the two beside him, he could just feel the nervousness and fear irradiating off of them. But then he recognised something he never thought he would have again, the lullaby Destiny was humming, it was the same one that his mother used to sing over and over again. He smiled at her as he too began to hum the same lullaby. The truck now entering a convoy of a few civilian cars and fire trucks, getting closer to one of the largest buildings in town, the Town Hall. Where Sheriff's Department cars were already waiting outside for them, escorting people inside as the trucks pulled up to the Hall.
