Islebreaker

Conrad 'No PC should be competent' Hubbard is a pretty poor person to do many things. Most things dealing with High Essence beings are among them, as his idea of power level is rather sckewed. This is the man that considers 14th and 15th gen vampires an unbalancing influence that must be disallowed because they are too potentially powerful in a oWOD Vampire game...one specifically tending towards a Gehenna chronicle. After seeing the madness that was his take on balance and power level when he was boss of New Bremen...I'm going to take any NPCs he stats out with a grain of 'Someone wanted the PCs and anyone they face to suck, so I'm going to need to ramp this fellow up quite a lot to make him live up to what he's supposed to be'.

When it comes to the listed stats for Leviathan and Islebreaker... let's just say I'll be doing my own, thank you very much.

I like the Islebreaker power, but it needs to be cheaper. So drill the cost down to 10 motes. That seems a lot more efficient. Then let's go with the idea that someone had earlier about "little Mermaid" esque trident. Yeah, I'm gonna say that's where Leviathan got the inspiration for his custom Knack. Then throw in the ability to throw lightning bolts. Now give it some ability to alter ocean currents and tectonics. Yeah, this thing's gonna be Artifact N/A. Which means we'll be doubling the object damage. If you hit a ship or an isle with this thing, it's going to freaking break.

Leviathan himself is how old again? He should be pretty ridiculous in terms of power. I say we ramp up everything.

All of this is actually going to be useful for me, as the PBP game I'm currently the ST for does feature PCs who I've explicity told that their First Age incarnations were Arkadi, Amyana and Red Coral Manta. Thus, sooner or later the reincarnation of Arkadi is gonna get to swing Islebreaker around in combat.

What?  Who am I?   :(

You are whoever you want to be.  But as for those incarnations:

Aleph has Arkadi's Shard

Vor'en has Amyana's Shard

and Rowan has Red Coral Manta's Shard

I was serious when I said "You are whoever you want to be" :P .  My character, Theran, has the Shard of a First-Age Twilight named Ommeus.  Ommeus was a member of Vor'en/Amyana's Circle, as well as being Chief Sorceror-Engineer of Luthe/the West (pretty much, right? :P ).

You're just saying that until we use Luthe as a drydock to hang Levianthan upside down as a fish we just beat up. ^____^

And the Solar that I'm bonded to is a bit brainwashed by the IO into being their bitch.  Lucky me! :?

You can do whatever you want to Leviathan, but we all know that puny Dragonlings can't raise Luthe. Luthe is a like a wanton woman, she needs a strong man/Solar to appease her/raise her from the murky depths. :P

You mean to kneel down before her and beg forgiveness for being an insensitive jerk and not remembering her birthday?

Not that this has ever happened to me

Don't be silly... we can raise Luthe... we're exalts! We can do ANYTHING!

Who is Red Coral Manta?  And I don't know any FA Dawns awesome enough to be me.... :(
Red Coral Manta was Amyana's Lunar mate.

It's true, I see no reason not to allow this. But the Solars have a tiny little advantage when it comes to getting past Leviathan. It's not like I'm actually going to be using his stats as written. No, I'm going to stat him up based on the Elder Exalts thing in the Core Book. Then I'm going to add on a dollop more experience, because hey, he's a surviving First Age exalt. He could already take out a first age ship fairly easily when the Usurption occured, so I reckon he should be pretty strong right now.

Now, how old is Leviathan again? If I remember he Exalted sort of youngish.

I would say somewhere between 15 and 20.  While he was young for receiving Exaltation (the most common age being somewhere in the mid twenties), but I think anything younger wouldn't make sense, as he was a sailor prior to being Chosen.

According to the boks, he was exalted 400 years before the Ursupation, and was fairly young, 15 - 20 years old or the abouts.

So you're looking at a Lunar that's 2000 or so years old, depending on how long the shogunate lasted in your game (400 + ???? + 800). Just remember the Lunar's max age limit.

Well, immortality is so easy in Exalted that it almost sounds weird that such a powerful exalted haven't expanded his lifespan even a little...

I'm not sure what stats for Leviathan your looking at but I see plenty of defense charms and being a lunar combos aren't has vital (gotta love that fury)

While Leviathan my be a wuss compared to other 2000 year old exalted the guy really hasn't done much to get XP for the last 1500 years or so (I mean moping around doesn't generate a lot of XP).  So while he has around half the XP for a creature of his age I don't find that too weird .  So I say all for Emo whale, he could still mop the floor out of 3-4 mid XP solars if played right.

Of course there's no defense for Islebreaker.  neat Idea, poor execution, the artifact just sucks as written.

Actually, even a 200 year old Lunar would be extremely kick ass. With 2000+ years under his belt, Leviathan should be a hell of a lot stronger than he's statted up in the west book. I mean, going by the table in the core we're looking at a fairly rediculous ammount of XP here.

Pretty much... I mean I've made first age lunars for my games as NPCs... and they get scary... VERY scary... godzilla scary, and they're not even focussed on combat.

I haven't statted Leviathan out yet, put I have statted out a 200 year old No Moon. He was focused on crafting, but that didn't stop him from being really damn scary.

Leviathan is gonna be... Fun.

*nodnods*

I know... I have statted out an alternate version of Raksi whose all sane and stuff... she LOVES some good bio-genesis and working on dragonblooded bloodlines.

The fact the Leviathan could easily have 7-8 dots in any given Attribute or Ability before you stat figuring in the bonuses for DBT, Lunar Fury, Big-Ass-Beast-Form and such should make anybody that faces him shit themselves. And I don't just mean the characters.

Player - "I attack Leviathan with my Ultra Combo of DOOM!!!!"

StoryTeller - "Leviathan parries and hits you with the West"

Actually, Leviathan can be assumed to have 10+3 in most relevant Attributes/Abilities. A 2000+ year old Lunar who exalted at 20 has about 6050xp to spend. In the write-up I'm doing I give him the following Attributes:

Strength: ********** [At Sea +3]

Dexterity: ********** [At Sea +3]

Stamina: ********** [At Sea +3]

Charisma: ********** [Commander +3]

Manipulation: ******

Appearance: *******

Perception: **********

Intelligence: ****** [sail +3]

Wits: **********

And his Abilities are just as respectable. His DV, without Charms or Artifacts, is about 18. Anyone want me to post the whole thing somewhere?

Also, picking his charms has been fun. I've essentially been paging through the Lunars book and picking every Charm that seems mildly interesting/useful and I've still come out with 434xp to spend on Spells and Combos.

Are you using the guidelines for elder characters? You know wher they give a break down on what the NPC should spend his or her xp?

Yep.  Assuming I spend 2/10 of the xp on Attributes and Virtues, I have 1210xp for Attributes and Virtues. Taking into account his starting stats had him buying three extra dots with BP so his physical Attributes were all 5, here's how I spent it:

Conviction 4 - 12xp

Temperance 4 - 21xp

Valor 5 - 27xp

Strength 10 +3 - 126xp

Dexterity 10 +3 - 126xp

Stamina 10 - 120xp

Charisma 10 +3 - 141xp

Manipulation 6 - 72xp

Appearance 7 - 88xp

Perception 10 - 208xp

Intelligence 7 +3 - 106xp

Wits 10 - 196xp

= 1243/1210

= 33xp Over

Yes, that's 33xp over, but I have some spare points from buying Essence and Willpower. You can't spend more than 536xp on Willpower and Essence (assuming you start with 6 Willpower). That gives 69xp left over to use on other things if you're following the recommended distribution.
