I BONE OF THE SWORD
The self proclaimed Mechanist stood idly next to Zeke, still as death. But within, his mind was racing. Subroutines he had no idea existed had opened suddenly then just as quickly locked themselves away. Some way somehow something the cyborg fairy had said brought things once hidden to the surface. The thing which truly troubled him was his inability to understand what had happened. Normally he would notice changes to his system he was sure of that, but here there was nothing. Normally such a change would leave indicators a trail he could follow. Yet he couldn't even comprehend it. At first he was unchanged then suddenly he was... More. He could scarcely define it. It was a burgeoning of emotion and being unlike anything he had felt before. He had emotions of course, machine though he may be his processors were capable of emotion. But it was controlled, stilted you would never see him overwhelmed by feeling, but it was there. For a brief moment he had felt an energy that was completely foreign to him. As far as the current Ingenium was concerned the Ingenium that had made himself known in those brief moments was someone else entirely. He wondered if that was how mortals felt, or perhaps something more?
A voice reached him. The cameras within his eyes centered before focusing on the small figure "he" had spoken to before. She spoke kindly to him yet laced with bitter memories. He could see the expression play across her face clearly yet he could not understand them like he had once before. In that moment, he had felt such sadness, pity, anger... and love. He knew he could not replicate it; he could not respond to her in the same way. "...Acknowledged." It was all he could muster an affirmation of understanding. Her question though, it brought up something he had not considered before. "No, I have always been a machine." He brought his metallic hand up to his face studying it before clenching it into a fist and opening it again. "I was not created, nor born. I simply am." His first memories were hazy. Uncharacteristically so for a being like him, but he knew no one had crafted him as one would a machine. Ingenium knew he could not express emotion like those around him. "Perhaps, if I had been born as you were. I would have chosen to not be a machine. However, this is who I am." But these words would have to be enough. If he was a less efficient Construct he would have likely overheated from all the processing he was doing. But Ninelles next question was something far less introspective and was a quite welcome one. "In this current state I have nothing with which to facilitate long range communication Ms.Lifeblossom. Apologies I cannot honor my contract with the utmost efficiency at this time. However, I will continue to create. There will come a time where you shall not have to worry of such things again." That was all he could give.
As she turned to speak to the boy who Captain Zeke seemed familiar with. Ingenium caught wind of something he was unaware of. As usual his face was impassive and held no judgment but he did turn his head and ask, "Captain, you are a pirate?".
