around [xxx] years ago, a phenomenon swept across humanity: the birth of quirks into society (i'm sure you all know the story behind this, so i won't go into it too much). with it came the slight reality of heroes and villains, and as such, society started to evolve to accommodate for that. currently, 20% of the population have quirks, while the other 80% does not. overall, humanity is at a point where it's still divided over the sudden change of events - things having calmed down after the initial chaos but many still not accepting.

around thirty years ago, a small government-funded institution by the name of taiyou academy came into existence as a response to criminal activity committed by those with quirks. it's purpose was to take in a small number of qualified high schoolers and train them to become specialists in handling quirked criminals, and served as the birth of superheroes and supervillains outside of fiction. the years following would consist of rising 10th graders from all over japan applying for a chance to become part of the small heroics course located in the heart of osaka.

this is a story that focuses on a rather... peculiar year for taiyou.

the story will focus on the 32nd class, who are currently freshmen. as a separate note, most of these students will either be first or second generation quirk users in their families with a few potential exceptions.

on the day back from break, while the students are in the middle of their first homeroom of the school year, the monitor at the front of the room suddenly cuts on. on it is a woman, who introduces herself as watanabe natsumi, and goes on to explain that throughout the year, the heroics students will need to complete a series of weekly challenges and games alongside their normal academic routine. apparently, this is only the third year that they've done this. the explanation behind it is to encourage school spirit and friendly competition between students in the course.

the challenges, while seemingly random and/or stupid, don't take long for people to get used to. all of them are pretty much what one would expect, starting off mild to settle the students in, and progressively getting more challenging. unbeknownst to anyone, however, the situation is heading in a dark direction.

hi! welcome to irregularity! i'd like to start off by saying that, while this is technically a bnha au, it might not "always" feel like bnha. i've taken inspiration from not only bnha (for the lore and world), but also a number of other shows/games (for atmosphere/plot). that being said, there won't be many "heroes vs villains" type scenarios until a bit later. until then, it's like... survival? character deaths can happen, but it's also very possible for everyone to live until the end!

how this will go is that it'll start off really light-hearted for awhile, and will be pretty normal (the characters doing heroics course stuff, some challenges, yada yada), until things, for some reason, start getting dangerous and questionable. at that point, the characters are told that the tasks are mandatory, and it'll become a matter of making it through these challenges while trying to find the answer to the question: why is this happening and how can we stop it before the end of the year?

the story itself can get kind of dark, but i do encourage humor and light-hearted moments! more on the "game" will be explained IC in the intro post.

finally, some things to keep in mind:

- this is an au, so there are no canon characters.

- this is a kinda detailed rp, so absolutely no one-liners! a minimum of 1~2 paragraphs is preferred.

- faceclaims should be anime (or something close to it).

- this is a pretty character-dependent rp, so people should be posting at least once or twice a week! that said, if something comes up and you won't be able to, please don't be afraid to let me know! we can find workarounds this way, so when you return you'll be all ready to go!

- ooc communication is super important!

- characters should be unique from one another! if your character is too similar to someone else's, things will need to change.

- NEW! our max capacity is 20 students! people are allowed to make second characters once their first one has been accepted.
^ update - max capacity is no longer 20 characters, however the max player capacity is 18.

Spoiler: some fun stuff!

- the school building itself is pretty small compared to most, considering there are only three classes (one for each year). in addition to the three classrooms, there's a lab, a library, an indoor gym, an auditorium, several staff rooms/offices, bathrooms/locker rooms, and a small cafeteria. however, taiyou does occupy a lot of outdoor space due to the nature of heroics training.

- taiyou does have a separate building for dorms! similar to canon, everyone gets their own room, but share several communal spaces. there will be certain rules put into place by the school, but the students are allowed to add their own at their own discretion. those rules would be dependent on the students themselves enforcing them, though.

- all of the students and staff are given digital IDs that double as handbooks. they're able to use it to open scan-based locks, view information about the school, and check their own personal info (like schedule and transcript).
