The year is 2097 and as of late a certain oddity has begun to show up in a certain number of the people inhabiting the planet Burd. These oddities, as of yet unexplained, manifest themselves as abilities which normal people shouldn't have. Examples of these abilities include the ability to control flame, the ability to bend light, the ability to give life to inanimate objects, and many others spanning the spectrum of human imagination. One similarity that spans these vastly different effects, however, is the fact that they all started to become available to their respective users approximately two months prior.
In what was proclaimed to be an attempt to help youth with these abilities, a group headed by Darian Cross opened the Institute of Powers and Advanced Development. This was meant to serve as both an instructional establishment as well as a measure of protection against a dark future sensed by a rather powerful psychic by the name of Peter Hall. Those individuals instrumental in starting this school went out and personally invited students to join their ranks as they tried to alter the course of fate. Finally they opened the doors of the school to these promising young people and welcomed them to dorms and facilities somehow already specialized to their unique powers and needs. They had successfully brought all of the students to safety and the future was brightening with their hopes ...
That is how it seemed until the lights cut out and an organization under the direction of someone only known as "mother" attacked. They harvested certain students to test tubes using the teleportation abilities by one of their own special agents. Once enough students were gathered, a group of mercenaries was unleashed upon the school to wipe out the rest. Of course, a number of students objected to this slaughter and fought back to the best of their ability as they tried merely to survive ... Even having escaped the initial onslaught, however, they are now learning that this organization wants them and are realizing that this all is far from over.
God-modding: God-modding is made quite difficult in this story due to the requirement of rolling actions that have a chance of failure. Just the same, god-modders may find their posts invalidated, their ‘experience’ docked, or even total dismissal from the RP.
Meta-gamming: ‘Character knowledge’ is all that may be used by a character. Infractions will always receive some form of ‘experience’ penalty, though no character will be ‘de-leveled’ as a result of an experience penalty.
My World: This story will use quite a bit of ‘established lore’ that may or may not have been modified for the purposes of the story. While it is generally acceptable for characters to use almost everything from mythology and even reference TV shows and movies in the RP, they should be done ‘as the character remembers it’ and players should not expect that it is 100% accurate within the confines of the world.
Final Say: I have the final say in any and all disputes PERIOD. That said, I am not unfair and will be willing to listen to any and all dispute claims; Just know you WILL have to explain your actions in a way that I agree with before any previously produced rulings will be overturned.
Romance: I have nothing against romance springing up anywhere in the story, whether it be between two players, or a player and an NPC. Sexual content however will, of course, be kept within the confines of RPNation rules and MUST fade to black.
Literacy: This is not a one-liner thread. While I am not asking that each post be top-selling novel, I do desire substance. If you haven’t anything to write at the moment, pause and thick before you do.
Reserved Rights: You may not use material from this story anywhere else without the explicit WRITTEN consent of the author (myself: Pristine Dark). All images used in the creation of this thread are the property of their creator (myself: Pristine Dark). While material posted by people other than myself belong to those who have posted it, by participating in this RP from ‘chapter two’ on you are affording me permission to use the material presented by your participation for the purposes of this story and its novelization forevermore.
Cheating: All those discovered cheating in any manner will face stiff penalties or expulsion from the RP.
RPNation Rules: Follow the site rules at all times. Not only will infractions result in penalties within the story, but I will naturally report them.
Thanks Chaotic for this lovely synopsis for my RP when I was having trouble deciding what to write. While it will almost certainly be re-written by myself within the next week or so, you have helped me greatly...summing up has always been the hardest thing for me to do.
Thanks to Gabriel Ryker for allowing me to remake the RP in the first place. The premise of the school (and the name that goes with it) was their brain-child. Though the original failed, I saw potential in the premise and set about on the 1.5 month trip of writing the current story.
Thanks to all the players for supporting the story enough that it eventually earned an RPotM award :3
Name: This much is obvious. Enter your name (Full names please)
Age: Your character’s age. At the moment only ages within the range of 12 to 18 years will be accepted. As the story progresses towards the future, the age range will shift up by an equal amount. This section will be edited each time a shift occurs.
Abilities: Your character may have up to two ‘abilities’. If you do decide on two abilities, they must be thematically similar to one another (for instance: one character cannot control fire & ice). The idea is that we are all a bit of a one trick pony, though that one trick might be utilized in a plethora of different ways as the character strengthens. Every character must have at least one ability with the potential of growth, and all characters start off weak and grow into their strength. Ability charts above and beyond the starting level will be created by me, though I will gladly accept input from the player. NO character created by a player will have an ability that has appeared before 2 months prior to the opening of the story.
Skills: Each character may posses up to two skills which may be anything learned during the course of the character’s life that are natural in nature. Further skills will likely be attributed to characters as the story progresses or older skills may find that they are improved.
Weaknesses: No character is all powerful, and all characters are mortal. ALL characters MUST possess some manner of weakness. Please note that weaknesses that are impossible or remarkably unlikely to be relevant will be rejected. (for example: weaknesses such as: “can’t swim” on a world with no water)
History: The events in your past that have made you who you are. While I don't care about pre-generated personalities, I DO care about the events in each of your individual pasts; they are frequently used for 'focus segments' that I write, so be wary.
Appearance: A picture is highly preferred; I will, however, allow text descriptions so long as they are detailed.
The following are a list of abilities that will not be accepted due to any number of reasons including (but not limited to) Story integral, Story destructive, Inherently overpowered, impossibility to scale.
- Abilities controlling the fundamental forces known as 'Strong nuclear force', 'Weak nuclear force', and 'Gravity' will be automatically rejected.
- Teleportation PARTIAL: teleportation of living entities specifically. Furthermore, teleportation of any kind requires an increased capacity to 'calculate' as all teleportations are quantum in nature. In otherwords, whatever arrives is technically just a duplicate of what was sent; the original is destroyed in the process, creating 'teleportation'
- Hyperkinesis PARTIAL: While I do not really mind the perfect control of one's own body as a power, the perfect accuracy portion is obviously omitted; more over, scaling idea's must be presented for this power to even be considered.
- Any and all forms of 'Omni-powers': Abilities that can produce an immensely large range of effects will almost certainly be disallowed
- Directly Anti-Psychic abilities. IE Power Negation.
- Clone/ Mimic abilities: abilities that copy another ability user are quite simply rejected
- Abilities controlling the fundamental forces known as 'Strong nuclear force', 'Weak nuclear force', and 'Gravity' will be automatically rejected.
The world is currently ruled by a single massive government entity called ‘The Aldura Foundation’, though most everyone refers to them as the ‘World Government’ or ‘WG’ for short.
Originally beginning its life in the 1990’s as a special interest group dedicated to the preservation of human rights, the Aldura Foundation was voted in as the ruling faction shortly after the collapse of the complicated web of governments that previously ruled during World War Four. Bringing about a quick end to the war, the Aldura Foundation earned immense public support which it leveraged to complete the Gateway and ASE projects. Now their reach extends to all three continents of planet Burd and touches nearly every economic and social circle in one way or another.
Public support for the foundation lasted till roughly 2091 when the ASE restoration plan had been completed, which earned them almost unanimous distrust from the general populous. With their control weakening, the foundation quickly resulted to shows of force and threats of ASE terminations to keep the population in check.
Despite their ever pervasive sovereignty over planet Burd, they function more as a business rather than a pure government entity. As a business, they are not without rivals which include: the Kookalis foundation, the Waicom Corporations, and the Marith Institute. Though their position as the number one ruling entity has remained secure for a little more than a century, the rapid decline in public support the Aldura Foundation received in the last decade is affording their rivals more and more leverage within their operations.
The Aldura Foundation has recently taken to reducing the prices of their products and services to the cost it takes to produce or perform them in an effort to undermine their rivals. This tactic has only been made possible due to increased ‘taxes’ to pay for ASE maintenance and operation. In essence, people must pay these ‘taxes’ or be left open to attack from the colony’s.
Planet Burd is remarkably similar to planet earth in terms of habitability. While it is only marginally heavier and larger than earth, it orbits at a significantly faster speed; especially considering its increased distance from its own blue star Faux. Blessed with an unusually strong magnetic field, Faux is the only planet in its five satellite system that is not a hellish, desolate, desert planet.
The planet itself is divided into three major landmasses: the continents of Triton, Alria, and Douv’en. Due to extensive radiation damage suffered in the last of colony war (52 years before the story’s beginning), Triton — the smallest of the three — houses the majority of the world’s population. Currently, 92% of Alria, and 86% of Douv’en are utterly uninhabitable; the rest, though habitable, require the use of specialized medical tools to safeguard against radiation poisoning.
Planet Burd is orbited by 2 major satellites (moons) and 12 minor satellites. Currently, the platinum rich moon of Dios (the smaller of the two major satellites) is contested by extra-planetary colonies. The largest satellite Eden, owing to its own relatively powerful magnetic field, is currently undergoing the process of terraforming and is expected to be contested as well within the decade
The minor satellites possess no resources of note and have garnered little attention.
Vital Statistics:
- Mean radius: 7642 kilometers (4749 miles)
- Average distance from the star Faux: 174.6 million kilometers (108.4 million miles)
- Rotates on an axis of 25 hours
- Revolves around Faux once every 290.002 days
- Surface area: 733 million square km (283 million square miles)
- Mass: roughly 6.1 sextillion metric tons
- Surface Gravity: roughly 1.3 x earth
- Mean radius: 7642 kilometers (4749 miles)
Due to experimentation with the magnetic displacement engines that make modern space travel possible, earth’s inherent magnetic field was brought to collapse. Once the damage to earth’s magnetic field was noticed, a massive project named ‘Cradle’ was undergone to surround the planet in a protective array of satellite systems that work to absorb the radiation that would normally be deflected away harmlessly. With earth based orbital elevator ‘Ascension’ and early forms of magnetic displacement engines already functional, the production of Cradle was completed in only a short four years using materials gathered elsewhere within the solar system.
Cradle itself was produced with 5,240 satellites that orbited the planet in a precise, rocket-controlled orbit that would place each and every satellite at the magnetic north pole of the planet every 108 hours. There, a permanent facility had been built to which the satellites would fire down their gathered energy reserves. The facility’s goal was to use a large array of magnetic displacement machines to ‘jump start’ the planet’s own innate field, but failed to produce results quickly enough.
Recognizing the inevitable death of the planet in the early 1930’s, humans set about to complete more powerful magnetic displacement engines that could be used for extra-solar travel. Though the race had been tight, last minute breakthroughs in the field produced large drive cores capable of powering immense “ark’s” that traveled at approximately 95.1% the speed of light.
Earth itself was left uninhabitable with several modified magnetic displacement engines called ‘magnetic resonance drives’ that are slowly, but surely correcting the magnetic fields of the planet for later terra-forming

Ritsa Tucky Lythe
Age: 28
Instructor
Ability: Telepathy (Major)
Skills: - -
Weaknesses: - -
What’s known so far?
Ritsa, one of the six ‘instructors’ to open the IPAD institute, has a somewhat odd personality. She is outgoing, but often self-doubting; energetic and open, but also a bit withdrawn and nervous.
Her love of children however is easily apparent to anyone who spends any real time with her, though the feeling doesn’t appear to be mutual. The combination of her passion, confused awkwardness, and her openness about her ability leads many others to believe ‘it is all an act’; leading her to be left alone, the one thing she desperately desires to change.
Catching a glimpse of a student waving at her, Ritsa turned to smile towards her vibrantly. “Finally!” She thought to herself excitedly as she began to raise her hand to wave back, though by this point she had already returned to talking with the other two children around her. “Ahh…” she let out as her hand hung in the air awkwardly for a few seconds before returning to her lab jacket’s pocket. “Heh…well…let the kids have their time Rit’s. Your just some creepy old person to them right now.”

"Hey there!" She called out energetically to a passing click of girls, all of whom looked back at her nervously before giving obviously obligatory nods of acceptance and rushing off. Waving absently, Ritsa watched them hurry into a sort of cul-de-sac a bit disappointed, trying to ignore that the pervasive feeling she got from them was that she had been a bit odd.
Like all of the other instructors, she has had an unknown, but undoubtedly bloody history; like all of the other instructors, her goal is to prevent a mostly unknown bloody future predicted by her fiancee: the powerful clairvoyant “Peter Hall”. Her own motivations for changing this future appear to be centered again on children, specifically her own unborn child.
Ritsa jumped out of the way hearing two kids rushing up, watching as the young boy and girl darted past seemingly racing each other. "See that little guy? You'll have plenty of other kids to play with when you grow up...the world wont turn out the way I saw it in that crabby old Peter's mind." She thought, again rubbing at her stomach as she forced down another wave of nausea. "You could at least go easy on me ya know" she continued, pouting at her on stomach.
