Prelude (Eastern Empire)

Under a Black Curse

dimitar-marinski-dimitar-marinski-fieldsofruin.jpg

"I believe I've found her corpse." Said the Armored Eastern Empire Warrior.

"Let me have a look at it." Replied the Cybernetic Mage.

The shuffling of his armor was heard as the Soldier motioned for Martin to follow him into a large tent. A veritable line of corpses sat upon each of them. "I'd have handed her over to the See. But, I recall the description you had given me. An eccentric little Fae, with the air of a trickster. When I saw her corpse, memories came forth of my blade." The warrior drew the sword in one skilled motion, presenting it skillfully and yet gently in less then a second. The front of it had been inscribed with ruins -- granting it a faint, mythical glow.

Martin nodded thoughtfully as if assembling the pieces of a puzzle. "Yes. She was quite the skilled Artificer. Indeed, she'd made a wand which surpassed her own magical skills." He said, a sigh leaving his lips. The warrior returned the nod.

With that, the Warrior put his blade away into its sheath. He squatted near a corpse covered by a blanket and then pulled it aside. The body would be revealed, a shell of it's former self lacking the vibrancy it once. But the white Tornado-shaped twin-tails, petite form, and eye-catching clothes more or less had confirmed it. All of it had matched what was in a mind that had yet struggled to remember -- which was slowly accumulating more and more resistance to Yume's subconscious attempts to siphon away at his own mind. It seemed the warrior, too, resisted. It seemed miraculous that he could remember at first, but the vague "muchness of the man" alluded to some degree of telepathic resistance that enabled his memory. There was no mistaking it. It was her. And yet...

She was so pale. So stiff. It seemed a miracle that she had been somewhat preserved before the bloating had set in, before flesh would begin to fall off. But that smell. It came from her just like all the others.

Martin's face was unmoving, like stone as he stared at her. The same however, could be said for his mouth. Not a twitch could be seen upon his face. The Warrior stared at Martin, closely, noticing a slight tremor in Martin's eyes.

"Martin." He says. "Is it her? Is she the one you seek?" Warrior asked, still kneeling down next to her.

Finally, Maritn blinked. And then he looked towards the warrior.

"Yes. That's her." The cyborg replied promptly.

"Then I will preserve her for you and wrap her, as you requested."

"Thank you."

He did as requested, pouring upon her an alchemical fluid which allowed her to be preserved. Something in limited supply, but the commanders need not know. This was combined with a small degree of salt present from the man's own rations. As her underwent this process, he spoke idly, bundling up her body in a bag fit for carry.

"I'd normally not care much for a Fae. But it was odd. This one was willing to sell to me. It feels as though the price I paid for the weapon was not enough. Perhaps it is Fate which has brought you to me, Martin. You will never find a mage willing to resurrect her here. However, there exist ancient magics within the See which may be able to aid you. Hopefully, they won't kill you for simply being human." The Warrior comments as finishes. The body is wrapped in waxxed sheets, tied together by rope. It almost resembled a gift. The warrior picked up her body with about as much effort as one might need to big up a new born pup.

The corpse is accepted into the mage's hands. But once the warrior release, he feels it's full weight. The old cyborg feels the full brunt of the weight, but bears it, placing her on his back.

"I will pray for your safety and your success. May the three Fates look kindly upon ye." The Warrior said, before he would depart for other tasks amidst the half burned down camp.

Once Martin had left the camp, his journey had begun. And it was around then, that he crumple onto his knees.....

....And vomit.

Currently (Fae See)

Why am I doing this?

The question circled around his mind again and again. The journey had been from the developed Empire in the East to the wild woodland of it's West known as the See of Fae. He walked through dense brush with all but a corpse for company. The sounds of untamed wilderness were all around him. And yet woven intricately into it was something of a civilization. The denizens of such seemed to intercept him at various points, appearing suddenly and heckling him with inquiry after inquiry.

"A human? Here in the woods? All alone?"

"Wanna play?"

"Are you sure you want to go."

Question after question as many wondered why such an abomination. Many of whom outnumbered him greatly. Some had looks which appeared curious. Others playful. And an eerie amount of them had been glances he could tell were downright predatory. Appraisal appraisal appraisal. They could look over his body and see how comparatively weak he was for themselves. A budding battle-mage who fancied himself a scientist. But they saw his corpse too. And it was Yume, in that way, who'd serve to protect him from those who did so have malevolent intentions.

It's utterly irrational.

His life could be snuffed out at practically any moment. There was never a place he had gone to where he not only had to think about bandits but about the very people around him. All this for a girl who he had practically. To one who desired power as he -- she was worthless. Knowing and forming connections with her offered little in the realm of practical gain. Really quite the opposite. He always had to worry and account for her and anticipated doing more of that. To the man who had been in his previous world, a genius, there was no practical reason whatsoever as to save her life.

And yet here he was. Sitting next to the fire. Even with the aid of gravitational abilities, his back yet ached. He wasn't as strong as he used to be, and his strength was leaving him each and every day. His own death crept closer with each passing day. And with it, the end of his ambition.

None of this stopped him from turning back and making his way to the Holy Capital City of Bishiri. It would be there that he would be informed of an ancient ritual capable of bringing one back, every when the flesh wanted to united once again with the soil. However, it required a journey into the spirit realm. The Priestess agreed to help -- for Yume was one of their own people. But the risk and price would be entailed all by him and whomever a nameless man like him would be able to garner for aide.

Martin arrived promptly and on time. The Ritual had been prepared. There was just one question the Priestess posed to the Cyborg, before he entered the Portal.

"Before we begin..." The Priestess spoke to Martin, as she scanned the area for any allies he might have brought.

"....Are you alone?"

The Spirit World

Tau Tau

Step: Subspace Ver. 2

Many fates could possibly await one after death. A bastardized prayer was all it had taken to change Yume's fate, as her soul was directed now to the Fae See.

She had practically fell from the sky. And yet when she hit the ground -- nothing would happen. Instead, she'd wake up and see she was in place that appeared different. The whole world appeared to be translucent and almost faded. And it seemed as though Yume was not an exception. To gaze at her hand was all that she needed to do to view her own diluted ectoplasm, clear enough for her own eyes to partially see through.

Essence. Ectoplasm. Spirit Matter. There were many names for what her newfound body was up of. But it seems there was no one around her to tell her. Instead, she would find herself surrounded by a vast and shadowy wood that comprised of similar stuff. Around her, she could yet peer into the mortal realm and view the living. She, however, could not count herself among them. That matter which was still and rooted in place was difficult to pass through -- while things that were in motion would. A tree could be touched, but a person or animal would simply be passed through. At least for the moment, nothing seemed to be too interested in harming her.

Death revealed more spirits about, like unto her. Some were of the dead, being animals and even a few desolate souls. Others were of concepts -- embodying the elements and aspects of nature. Some shaped like humanoids, some like aniimals and others like something else entirely. Many of them seemed to master their ethereal forms, more easily able to phase in and out of various forms of matter and float up in the air. Given time, perhaps she could learn to do the same.

But just how interested was Yume in staying here? Really, what would Yume do in reaction to her situation?

It would take time. But the spirits had begun to grow.... restless.

Notes: Your single post revival has arrived! I joke but could be done but its about the journey :p

Eris had been standing in the Holfeel Basilica as she sat on her knees at the altar, head tilted silently. Her Fae features since her second revival had become stronger, while retaining some of her Human features her ears had certainly changed a bit more. After some time, she eventually stood up and walked outside the Basilica and stood on her box, "Welcome to the Holfeel Basilica. Please step inside and hear more about Lady Holfeel!" She repeated every so often, passing out pamphlets, and then there was the feeling of a teether pulling her toward somewhere unknown to her.

Quickly getting off the box she had outside the Basilica, she began to follow the tether that was leading. She moved through the capital city of the Fae See. Eventually, she came up to the building Martin and the corpse were at. Eris shifted the pack on her back as she stepped inside and saw the priestess and a familiar figure with his back toward her and a body over his shoulder. Who's body is that? Plus, that is Martin, right?" She thought to herself as she let out a small sigh and passed the threshold of the chamber where the portal was.

"I Eris, Hero of Courage of the Holy Fae See will accompany the individual on this journey." Eris stated as she made her presence known as she stopped beside Martin now that she was closer to martin and the body the shape was a familiar size and shape. Which had told her everything she needed to know. The spirit world will be an dangerous place hopefully Lady Holfeel will guide us along the path. She thought to herself.

"May Lady Holfeel guides us on this endeavor, and let us hope her soul has yet to be judged," Eris spoke before nodding her head and waiting for the moment that they were going to step through the portal to start this quest for a soul. Ironic, almost the fact that she served the Goddess of Reincarnation and the guide of souls that she was going to take a trip to the spirit world itself.

Yume

1bErITui_o.png

'I'm trying to help you, dummy!' Yume tried to scream, only to discover it was difficult to scream without lungs... or a mouth... or anything really. But of course, that didn't stop Yume from continuing to insult the guard who'd killed her. Like a haunting ghost, her spirit continued to assault his mind with unwanted, telepathic harassment, until eventually, her spirit was practically yanked away, leaving the man free to fight a war.

Yume wasn't sure what was happening to her. The last time she'd died, it'd been in her sleep, so she hadn't exactly been involved in the process. Come to think of it, she was feeling a bit sleepy again. Was that just part of the process? The eternal sleep? Maybe she'd soon wake up to meet God again and become queen of the universe. That sounded nice. She'd let that thought hang there as she drifted away, her formless spirit growing and taking shape like an unborn baby.

"Oww!" It didn't hurt at all. The word had simply come out in the same way one reflexively flinched when another pretended to throw something at them. It was disturbing how little it hurt, in fact. She felt... well, not quite nothing, but it sure wasn't the familiar, fleshy feelings of heartbeats and nerves she was used to. "What am I!?" she asked, more just to test her voice. This, too, felt alien: no sound waves left her mouth, nor struck her ears. It more closely resembled telepathy: pure thought projected out into the... world?

"Where
am I...!?" she asked the second important question to no one in particular. There were things here, but whether they qualified as people or not was up in the air... literally: they didn't have much respect for gravity. "Who does that remind me of?" she forced a smirk, trying her best to keep calm, despite the spooky atmosphere. Perhaps speaking with the locals would help.

Of all the spooky ghosts, Yume chose an innocent-looking water spirit, splashing about in a small puddle. "Hello?" She had no clue if it was even sentient, but it wasn't like there was a map she could consult. Reaching forward, she poked its watery form. "Do you know where we are, Blobby?"

Saddling Up

With the bloated corpse laid at their feet, Cassidy glared down at her in solemn silence while placing his hat on his chest. While not nearly as phased by the sight of a dead body compared to most, it was always a sad sight to see someone fair as her in post-mortem. Sadder to see someone truly mourning one's loss too. While he didn't know her quite as well compared to most, his interactions with her during their quest up in Nan-Gau were charming to say the least, even aside her stubborn, and mildly-mischievous ways. Perhaps that very trickster nature is what killed this cat. Or something completely out of anyone's control. Either way, she was dead. And it was their job now to go resurrect her.

"Humble condolences..." he muttered quietly.

Even so, it was still surprising to see Martin requiring his services for resurrecting Yune. Though from his understanding it's primarily as an additional bodyguard in case things go haywire. He did prove to be a good shot. Getting filled in with the situation at hand, and seeing them embalm Yume's body and secure her to the cyborg's back, Cassidy tipped his hat at the warrior before he and Martin left the camp. They had a long day ahead of them.

"Ya seem to be mighty fixated on the lass," the gunslinger remarked as he walked alongside him, "Did ya knew her before our outing at Nan-Gau by chance? Still... real shame what 'appened ta 'er." He paused before lighting a cig in his mouth, giving a long exhale in front of their path as the fumes drifted into their face. "Well... guess it aint a better time for me to ask what 'appened to-"

Aaaaand Martin vomited. "Eey dads!" startled Cassidy as he stopped to see the cyborg throwing up at the sight of Yume's corpse. Or maybe it was the cigarette smoke that triggered something? Perhaps both. Couldn't even blame him for it. He stood scratching his head awkwardly for a moment before patting Martin on his shoulder.

"Y-Yeah..." he comforted Martin, as his stuffed glove replicated the feel of a normal appendage, "Go on airin’ ya paunch, son. Better now than later..."

As they exited the Eastern Empire's boarders and descended into See territory, Jebidiah felt assaulted by the amount of prying eyes fixated on their position. Danger was everywhere... no matter how much some attempted to look harmless otherwise. He hoped his clothing and expertise in creating alternate identities would be enough to shield who he truly was. He tightened the folds on his clothes and hood, keeping his face and body covered to keep the fae folk from getting a good look. He'd even go as far as smearing himself with scents from various flora, keeping himself as smelling as something part of the fae. Rotting was no concern of his, given he's just bones, but even the desolate dead could be snuffed out by keen noses and acute observations. Really he'd rather look shady as a human rather than be revealed as what he truly was.

Should it come to that... he better make sure his allies understood what side he's truly on. If he didn't... he'd be the one needing a resurrection.

And the odds of a fourth try at life were morbidly thin.

But they'd survive. And by doing so, they'd finally reach their destination: the Holy Capital City of Bishiri. It's here where they can do the resurrection process for Yume, precisely at the Holfeel Basilica... where upon arriving he'd be greeted with yet another familiar person from Nan-Gau. "E-Eris?" he stammered confusingly, "Well aint this a fancy reunion party or sumthin... why fancy seein' ya here of all locals. I'm here with Martin ole' pal." This was unexpected. Not only that, she looked a bit different as well. More... Fae oriented? Her ears looked keenly pointed than last he vaguely remembered. Or maybe she was always like that and he simply didn't notice?

No... no he couldn't have. Surely, this was different.

As a portal opened between the real and spirit realms, Cassidy glanced over at Martin to see how he was holding up. "Now if ya get portal sick from this now, I swear-" he grumbled to him with a hint of jest in his tone. It's then when he finally entered to the world on the other side; his first trip into the spirit realm.

At times previous, Cassidy would find his questions answered.

"Honestly, It's hard to tell you why." He began. "I never knew her before, Nan Gau. Only about a day before you arrived. And yet, here I am."

Martin breathed in and then out. "It feels most peculiar. I don't like questions I can't answer. Yet it feels as though I don't even know how to find out why I'm doing this. As unsatisfying an answer as it is, all I can say is it feels right." He said. It had all been unpleasant. Yet he felt as though he had to do this and that he would feel much worse having not done it.

The man was met with quite a great many gazes in the same manner of Martin. But thankfully for him, the corpse seemed to distract from too many prying eyes. Not only this, but Martin's own abominable form seemed to draw even greater suspicion from the populace. A human-construct hybrid amounted to an utter abomination, an affront to nature. This was no place for a cyborg.

While some had taken to Eris handing out pamphlets, it seemed that her otherworldly intuition had pulled her towards another task away from her church and into another....

As Eris entered the church, the hustle and bustle of the Capital City of Bishiri would soon wane from the ears. When the doors shut behind her, she could now hear the sounds of quiet prayer by a great many men in robes. They bowed at practiced intervals to an eight-foot statue of a woman wrapped in thorny vines. Plants were present in areas of the church, yet it seemed more like they adorned the place than got in the way.

The place had an odd fragrance to it, as though no matter where you went, one could smell the flowers on the ceilings and walls. Torches and Candles illuminated the area, filling the place further with fragrant incense. A few people could be seen cleaning the halls. Soon, however, she found her way quite easily to open the door to an ongoing conversation.

"Ah, I see you are accompanied by another warrior, judging by those firearms."

"I have one ally in Cassidy. That is-" Suddenly, Martin caught sight of a newcomer. His jaw nearly dropped at the unlikely occurrence which had appeared before him.

"Ms Granstone?" The Cyborg said. "I suppose you must have heard the news..." Or at least, that's what seemed most likely to someone who fancied themselves a man of reason.

The Priestess smiled. "Eris Granstone. It is quite a surprise to have a Hero of the See in my humble halls. Your presence here honors me." She gave a curt bow.

"Welcome to the Church of Thorns." She rose, her eyes washing over Eris for a moment analytically. While she didn't bother with an appraisal of any sort, tales of Eris' power had made rounds throughout the See. Thus, she sought to explain to the new arrival the workings of this ritual.

"You are quite fortunate, Martin. You have an extra body, healing, and a useful element with which to fight against the dark ones, in particular. However, newfound dangers will spawn from her presence. "

The question she had posed was not without reason.

"Listen carefully, Hero of the Fae See and Cassidy." She said.

"This ritual can revive those who are years dead, to say nothing of your friend who is ripe to rejoin the soil. But it is not without cost. The Spirit World is host to many sorts of specters, phantoms, and particularly. Entering it will enable you to harm some of them. But not all. Many yet are comprised of elements that might make them less susceptible to harm. This is important, as this ritual will cause entities to seek you out." She said in more simple terms, not expanding much on why this was so, only that it was.

She begins to approach Eris and Cassidy, offering her a Talisman, which appears oddly spikey and unpleasant to hold. Martin was offered the same. In a scientific fashion, he desired to study the magical artifact with his recuperated skills. And the Talisman held only a few secrets.

"Very Interesting." Martin said, casting a spell-enhanced appraisal.

"This amulet serves two functions. One is that it allows one who remembers the deceased to track them through the realm of the dead. There are limitations to this ritual."

"Ms. Granstone and Cassidy both appear to remember Yume, thankfully," Martin added. Based on what he'd studied of the workings of telepathy in this world, it seemed as though it was far too weak to afflict her.

"Good. Then, she is blessed to have you both. You may proceed when ready. I will pray for your success as well. May the gods watch over your efforts, brave friends, to Yume. When you find her, I will conjure up a portal in your location. This will take time. But less so then making your way back to your location"

Without further delay, the group would plunge into the spirit world.

The Spirit World

The Spirit World, Eris, Jebidiah and Martin's Perspective

Step: Subspace Ver. 3

A ripple formed in the air. The ripple grew into a tear. Air was sucked into the Portal as a bridge that manipulated spacetime and dimensions itself from temporarily into the air. Eris and Martin walked through.

"I could not bring myself to worship any god. But I would be a fool to say they didn't have use."

Immediately he began to scan his surroundings.

It was nighttime, or at least that was how it looked. Though the "Moon" in the sky seemed to illuminate this place as such that they could see around a hundred feet away from themselves. Colors were dimed and less vibrant, despite the fact that they were standing in what appeared to be a clearing in the middle of the woods. There was nothing to hide them. They were surrounded on all sides by grass. But at the same token, they could see anything coming towards them with ease.

And something certainly was, coming towards them.

The ground trembled slightly, and one did not need enhanced sensation to feel it. Martin pointed to spectral birds flying off in the distance. And soon, the enemy had made itself known. From the brush -- what could clearly be seen as the first of many random sets of elements started storming their way through.

"Earth." Martin said simply. "We can likely hurt it."

The ground quakes as two of the creatures, however two halt in place and -

Fists crash into the ground at their feet and sink into it. The ground beneath them trembles as solid stone is drawn from the bedrock beneath them. From a squatting stance and yank out a boulder. One winds up and throws a volleyball-sized wad of solid stone at Jebidiah [E-Grade Attack], seeking to turn the "man's" head into a wet paste. Martin received similar treatment as the second chucked a boulder toward his head. [E-Grade Attack]

For Eris, two of the creatures never stopped. Instead, their [Large] forms devoured the distance. Noticeably larger than the others. Continued to run forward and sought to charge straight at her. One sought to bring its solid rocky fist across her face with a traumatic blow. [E-Grade Attack] And the other sought to launch a foot half the size of her torso into her chest, trying to kick the priestess around like a soccer ball. [E-Grade Attack].

Earth Elemental

Despite the size of their foes, Martin began to utter an incantation. "Interesting Haymaker." 4 Orbs started rotating him...before shooting up into the air. The balls would then seek to rain down like mini meteors and crash into each one. At the same token, he sought to gain information about them for both study and tactical reasoning.

He then reached into his holster and quickly fired off a round of his derringer, seeking to send a hasty shot to the creature's rather large center of mass. Martin knew well, however, that he would require the assistance of his allies in such an encounter.

The Spirit World, Yume's Perspective

Tau Tau

The forest stretched and stretched -- left mostly untamed and wild. The Fae See was quite a prominent place, and she had no direction in which to travel in particular. Denizens were more sparsely stretched out, even if they could count both the dead and the spirits. Some figures would cross her eyes once every 30 or so minutes. Sometimes she'd hear rustles in the bushes from things more solid. Eyes could be felt washing her over from places darker -- with intentions as of yet unknown.

Given time, however, she could soon encounter what she wanted after what felt like hours. Seeing what appeared to be a dancing puddle -- she stuck her finger in it. And it seemed that part was fairly simple, given that it had allowed such a thing to occur.

Yet drawing her hand back appeared to be more problematic as it seemed intent on keeping it. A firm grip took hold of the short, curious woman. (Surprise, Grappled)

The water flowed, it's amorphous form going from puddle to person at a moment's notice. From the puddle, something shaped like a person seemed to abruptly rise from it to meet her. It resembled a humanoid female shape, though "she" had the anatomy of a doll, a lack of a mouth, and a set of glowing eyes that gazed upon Yume. The power rose from the ground until it was just a little bit taller than Yume.

Its face, while lacking in features. And from a voice that sounded bubbly, words vaguely formed.

"Oh? It's been some time since someone wanted to dance." She said, giggling bubbly in an almost literal sense as bubbles appeared around her form.

It was then she would twirl Yume around with her in a graceful mock dance, whether Yume had wanted to dance or not. However, despite forcing her into ballet, she still seemed to answer Yume's questions. (Breaking out of the grapple requires an action) "Hm? Where we? That's a question with many answers." Yume would feel the invasive glance of an [Appraisal ??? Grade], an uncomfortable sensation as though she was being invasively searched, which would wash over her for a moment, and then the creature would answer her question a bit more clearly.

"Ah. You're new. Then let me be the first person to tell you this then. You're dead." She says, chuckling as bubbles appear upon the surface of her pure water skin.

"This "place" has many names. But what you would like to know is what realm your are in. You're in the Spirit World. A place of many things -- and in this case, your afterlife, Yume. The Spirit World of the Fae See." The dance stops. And the water spirit merely held hands forcefully. She began to lean forward uncomfortably close.

"How about an offer? You offer me essence, and I grant you knowledge. You have talents that you can use for your success. Or you can have it on your own, at your full strength."

1250f9cb13aafb0494a6960fe1594bbf.jpg

???
"Do you accept?"

The question would hang in the air as the elemental looked on with an air of curiosity. Would Yume take the beaten path or take her up on her offer? Oddly enough, the realm started to grow quieter than usual, as though many of the residents who were present had begun to leave. The Water Spirit, however, seemed entirely vested in the one before her. What would be her answer, and what actions would she take?

When she was greeted by Martin and Jeb she nodded her head, "Well this is where I consider home after all, someone has to look at the Basilica from time to time." She cocked her head at the motion of news, "What news? There was an inkling pull coming from this direction, so I came to find out what was going on," She concluded now standing beside Martin.

Eris listened to the priestess as she explained the ritual, which didn't seem like anything she hadn't been able to handle before. However, what other threats would spawn since she was here was intriguing. However, she did not doubt that her light would attract a fair amount of attention, especially from the dead who might wish to escape the spirit world by any means, including taking over a body, if given a chance. She took the talisman and grabbed some rope and tied it to her staff to free up her hand should the need arise. Though she had to admit that sticking herself with the talisman wasn't exactly the most thrilling idea.

When she stepped through the portal she looked around noticing the difference in the surroundings. "Well Martin, I suppose its a good thing that I am here then, Lady Holfeel would know the best course of action here but, since we have these Talismans probably best to stick with them since I will attract attention it seems," She concluded as the rumbling started signaling that they were already starting to have entities show up. She turned to face the direction of the elementals that were coming toward them. "Book of Icarus verse 16-20, in the beginning, there was nothing, weary travelers rest upon my gentle light. The faithful shall never want for protection, for I am the church and maker of holy ground. The foundation is my very soul; I consecrate this ground!” Erecting the barrier around the group, selecting them to be able to pass through the barrier. Then quickly started to recite another verse, "Book of The End Verse 4-7, Those who stray from the path are subject to thy Lady's judgment. You have been condemned and the corruption shall be cleansed by her holy Verdict!" Eris set the point just outside the barrier and selected the party to be spared from the blast's effects.

Yume

Yume panicked for a moment, as her hand refused to release from the conspicuous blob of water. Thankfully, it turned into a woman, which was still quite bizarre, but holding hands with a semi-person was far less terrifying than getting stuck in magic goop.

"Whoaw, aren’t you playful~" Yume laughed with a surprised look, letting the strange elemental continue to hold onto her for the time being. She didn’t look overly hostile, despite the somewhat creepy nature, so it would probably be fine… maybe. Plus, dancing was fun! Yume was also incredibly bad at all, but thankfully that didn’t matter much when she had a good lead, and gravity was more of a suggestion.

The strange scanning sensation sure was familiar, though. "Oh no, not you too…!" Yume protested, finally struggling free from the elemental’s grasp. "Where I’m from, we talk to learn about each other. We don’t just read it from some Appraisal Status Board! That’s just rude! I’m a person, not some game character to stat check!"

she wasn’t jealous of that ability, at all. Nope. Not one bit.

"I can’t believe I’m dead again…" Yume sighed. "Dumb sword guy! I was just trying to help him, and the stupid man stabbed me! Is this how fae are always treated!? I wonder if I can go back and haunt him as a ghost for awhile…"

The other big question about this ‘Spirit Realm’ was whether this was the good afterlife for fae, or the bad one. Was there even a distinction, or did fae just get the default package no matter what? These were way too deep to be answered in the short time between conversation beats.

Yume raised an eyebrow skeptically as the water spirit‘s bubbling head grew close enough to splash her with a bit of mist. "Blobby, you’re going to have to take me on a few more dances before you go asking for my essence," she answered in her usual fashion. She hadn’t the slightest idea what it actually meant, aside from the ominous hint. As harmless as donating blood, or as horrifying as sacrificing her soul; just the potential for the latter was enough to give it a hard pass… until she learned more, anyway. "But you do make a pretty good dancing partner, though, so who knows what the future might hold~"

"CURRENTLY DISGUISED AS 'CASSIDY B. FLINT'"

Mentions:
| Maverick Six Maverick Six [Martin] | Tau Tau [Yume] |

Upon entering the church, Cassidy would be bombarded by an overwhelming floral scent that aired into his phantom senses. If there was any other place that screamed "Fae-Coded", this place would be among the top on his list. Religion blessed and mixed within a green hell... or the wonders of nature, depending on what side you're on. Though given the provided name for this place "The Church of Thorns" the skeletal couldn't help but lean just a bit towards the former. Nonetheless, he was polite towards the priests within, bowing respectably - if not a bit half-assed - at them.

"Mah pleasu'a." he replied in kind towards the elven priest.

Of course, now that they were here, they were explained the ritual they'd be committing to revive poor ole' Yume. They were warned that this was a dangerous task, risking conflict with any of the wayward souls that might attempt to drag either of them into their realm permanently. Some spirits can be harmed, others not easily so. To combat this risk, and help them track down who they seek, they were given a talisman to no doubt help them on their way. Cassidy inspected the little trinket carefully, seeing the many thorns which nicked at its clothing. Best not to have it caught in his rags; that would be annoying. Thankfully, this was as much displeasure Jeb would experience as otherwise his bones wouldn't feel the jabs of its thorny exterior.

But best to pretend that they were...

"Aint this a prick." the gunslinger muttered towards Eris, before storing it close to him. Upon Martin confirming that both he and Eris remembered Yume, he nodded in confirmation. "All three o' us were in the same possy not too longish ago." he explained briefly to ensure appropriate credit to the priest, "Never thought I see the day in portallin' to another DIE-mension to retrieve 'er willowed soul, but here we be."

And with that, the three souls would make their way into the portal... with Jeb taking his first steps into a whole new world.

Despite having no guts to speak of, Jebidiah would feel these phantom intestines and stomach swirling around his gut as he felt the alien pull of magic transporting him to his far-gone destination. Lasting for what felt like the longest seconds of his life, the gunslinger would emerge onto the other side. His bones buckled briefly as he tried regaining his composure. "Blarogh..." he groaned nauseously as he placed his hands on his knees, "Dog'gone dat aint pleasant..."

Taking a quick look around, he'd notice they were in some sort of forest at night. Yet the colors were... less vibrant than in the real world. It was both familiar yet also very unfamiliar. As Martin began talking about gods, Jeb decided to chime in on the conversation with his own philosophies on the matter. "Ya know, I used to be one of em' non-believers mah self once upon a time." he stated casually, "Guess in mah... previous life, or sumthin'. I 'member hearing most folk be preachin' 'God be with ya' or 'Pray to da lawd almighty abo've.' an' stuff like that, but seein' how I never saw the Big G nor did he bless me with any o' my wishes... well, I wouldn't tell ya I believe'd in 'em. But in dis 'ere world... Heh, well... they be dime a dozen."

Before long, the ground decided to shake underfoot and all would notice something mighty big heading towards. Immediately, Cassidy drew his big irons as they see two large hulking masses of earth and rock rumbling towards them. "Well aint THAT a big fella!" Cassidy called out, hearing Martin reply how this 'earth elemental' could be hurt. Seeing a volleyball sized rock being flung in his direction, the gunslinger quickly aimed at it and fired a [Deadshot E] to try and take it out in mid-air. Once taking care of that, he made himself lower to the ground as focused his attention on firing several shots at the sumbitch who threw that boulder at him.

Eris, Jebidiah and Martin's Perspective

Martin had smirked before the battle began. "It seems that it was you who should have worried about being portal sick, my compadre." He said, sounding amused. "For me, this is not my first. And hopefully it won't be his last." He said, alluding to the fact that he didn't die to get here.

While Holfeel might have known what to do, it seemed at the moment he'd have naught to rely on except for who was in front of him.

Mirage Battle Theme

Spells and Bullets began to fill the air. All the while -- the cloudy skies had begun to part as divine forces reached across dimensions.

The Cowboy had drawn quickly compared to the firing of a set of shots at the boulder being thrown. A small hole appeared in the rock faster than the eye could see tumbling and ricocheting through the solid stone before it punched through the side. With a "THWIP" the bullet whipped through the air, lodging itself in the elemental's eye. The bullet then struck it's head and it's knee. Rock appeared to fly off in giant chunks wherever the bullets struck, causing the creature to fall to one singular knee. It let out a guttural growl before it started to rise again immediately, only to be struck by one of Martin's lead orbs from above. The boulder fell to the ground with a hole in it, lodging in the dirt.

Martin watched as his orbs went to work. His own orb slammed into the side of the boulder. All the while, the gravitational orbs moved no sign of visible propulsion, curving and changing direction in the air like a pinball bouncing off nothing. Gunfire lodged in the creature's chest. And like the spell's haymaker namesake, the lead ball struck the creature across the face as though it were punched, sending the creature off its feet before it landed with a heavy CRASH. The boulder simply flew right by Martin's head as a barrier appeared.

Incantation after incantation dutifully conjured up practiced spells. The elementals both felt themselves striking something, but nothing as soft as armored flesh. Instead, a barrier shimmered in front of them. And a loud GONG reverberated through the air. Cracks appeared all through their armored forms. One of Eris' attackers looked at mangled fingers, pebbles falling off it's form. The other almost comically began to jump backward ever so slightly as it struggled to maintain balance with its newly damaged foot as it attempted to punt the priest. Orbs summoned by Martin's previous spell crashes down upon the elemental.

But that was the least of their concerns as a bright line began to shine off the battlefield from above. The elementals began to look up in the direction of the incoming attack.

KRAKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!

A sound like thunder -- as the air itself was rended into baser elements.

orbital-laser.gif

A gargantuan beam of light crashes into the earth elementals and the entire visible clearing itself -- bathing the arena in bright and mostly white light. A barrier shimmer around the trio, yet it appears the selective nature of the attack spares it and all within as it all simply curves around the barrier. Hoiy energy congeals upon the point that it is fired before exploding outward and consuming the visible landscape. The elementals are simply not visible, to say nothing of all that was beyond the divine explosion that began to consume drastic portions of the landscape.

Grass scorches. Many watch as the spirits of dead trees sturdy as steel ignite before disintegrating outright. Neutral denizens of the ethereal sort simply, however conscious, render their forms mostly ethereal -- as the light passes through the dead in a similar manner to others. Those mysterious concerned with the preservation of the spirit forest reach out to the trees, and they, too, begin to turn ethereal in order to mitigate the damage.

The elementals, however, seem to lack this luxury -- being not technically dead and bound by the rules of their chosen element. Solid stone began to melt before being ripped away by the explosive forces. The ground itself beyond the patch of land that the party stands on begins to be eaten away by the light explosion.

"What is is this, an orbital strike?!!" Martin says, having flashbacks to the so-called "Kill Satellites" of his own world used for Orbital Bombardment. He shields his eyes, the light around the pair mostly just uncomfortable. The light clears soon and the party could see the effects....

The two boulder-throwing golems in the back had completely broken apart into tiny pieces of molten slag that steamed before them. The two golems in front of Eris were standing upright in a blocking stance, indicating they were defending. While in tact....they simply fell to the ground, having had too much of their own flesh scorched for whatever enabled them to operate to function. A large CRASH broke the silence as the two golems who lasted slightly longer, simply fell to the ground.

The group could see exactly as well as they currently could: One hundred feet due to the moonlight bathing the ruined land before them. The landscape was scorched. The clearing around them had been expanded as the forest was destroyed. Some trees are gone. Others remained as burnt husks. Some spirits appeared to float about the air -- fleeing the ruins before them.

After a moment's silence, Martin stepped out onto the burnt patch of grass. "Let us continue forward." He says, continuing forward and granting information gleaned from a more than successful exchange.

"The creatures do not appear to be monsters. These elementals appeared to be not very strong either, even though they quite strong. Obviously, it wasn't enough to withstand your attack."

Martin took out the spiked trinket and took it upon himself to use it to find Yume. "Using this to track doesn't burn anything. Though I hate holding it. " The thing glowed. And ever so slightly, it pushed into Martin's hands in Yume's direction. Both Eris and Jeb could feel it being used, as it seemed to pull memories from all three to enhance finding Yume.

The smell of ozone accompanied their journey through the woods. The group, however, would notice that it seemed the forest was moving somewhat. Trees, which were ethereal to mitigate damage, were becoming solid once more. And the forest behind them was beginning to reform. The area around them began to fill with the whispers of things moving about. Many would notice ghosts and more traditional spirits moving among the brush and stopping to tend to the plants and slowly but assuredly.

The whispers were difficult to make out, as though they weren't really meant to be heard by people. With some senses, the specific wording of such could be detected. But one could detect what almost appeared to be anger amidst the forest denizens.

Martin looked about, with a growing sense of paranoia. Yet it seemed like an attack hadn't really come for them yet. And so it was that he sought to continue onward. Instead, they, for now, had to pick a path of what appeared loosely to be three.

One was a giant rock formation that seemed to block their path, yet it was low enough that it could be possibly scaled through various means by those nimble, athletic, or versatile enough to make it up it. Two was a strange cave. It was much darker in there than here. But one could see the light of the moon on the other side of it, indicating it would lead right to the other side. The Final path appeared to be a forest one reclaimed by the wilds. It could hardly really even be called a path as it hardly even had the luxury of an unpaved road. Roots and shrubs dotted the ground. But it could at least be traveled by most, though it appeared inconvenient.

"I wonder which way should we go. I don't suppose any of you can fly can you?" Martin missed the days when such a thing was possible.

1. [Remembrance] - Special Movement: Divine Path F, Affinity Spirits F - Artifact glows when the distance to someone being remembered and thought of is closer. Does not, however, necessarily tell the ideal path or of any dangers along the way.

2. Asks the two to choose between three paths.

  • Very dark cave. Can see exit directly from otherside.
  • Forested path overtaken by rooms and overgrowth.

Yume's Perspective

"Blobby"

Lamentations about her violated privacy, seemed to go mostly unheard.

For a few seconds, the water elemental would remain silent as it stared at Yume. She broke from its grip, though she noticed that the creature didn't appear to be holding her too hard. Her hands were a little wet, but that seemed to be the only effect of her contact with the creature.

After a few more seconds, the creature let out a noise that bubbled beneath the surface before she collapsed to the ground. And then she had begun to roll about, clutching and hugging herself.

"HAHAHAHAHA!" She burst out laughing, which appeared to echo all throughout an increasingly empty forest. The laugh would continue for several seconds, clutching her stomach as though it could burst. Soon, however, she stopped and began to speak to Yume again. While she didn't receive what she had initially desired, it seemed that Yume managed to amuse the water spirit enough to get a laugh out of her.

"I like you. Not enough to help you in the slightest for free." She said, laying languidly on the ground. "But I will tell you this." She held up a finger. "Ill fates await even the dead." She held up a second. "You call for me if you wish. You may simply scream this "bloopy" name at the top of your lungs and pray I'll hear it."

KRAKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!

There was a pillar of light off in the distance, accompanied by a spherical expansion after it'd hit the ground. The ground beneath her feet rumbled. A gentle wind would be felt. A distant noise roared through the air like thunder from a distant lightning strike.

The very moment Yume took her eyes off the water elemental, "Blobby" would be gone without a word. And where "she" was ultimately appeared to be unknown. However, Yume it seemed had a much larger problem. Quite literally. Another element manifested, this one as most of the others had been. It was all but a matter of place and time. Dictated by random chance.

14dd00ecd8155c9396c584a54a981458.jpg

Another elemental appeared in an odd form. But this one seemed less natural than the others. It seemed almost twisted in the shape it had taken. Metal was rarer in the Fae See after all, with it being favored more by man or dwarves. So the shape of man was what it had taken, almost as though it were walking armor. But the weight of it's step implied no flesh would be found within -- nor did it possess of the machinations of many constructs. The thing appeared to be one made out of pure iron.

"You haven't fled yet.

So you must be the one.

The subject of forces is most unnatural. And most unwelcome."

The creature spoke like the last one. But while most would not understand exactly what it was talking about, anyone could sense nearly pure malice in its words. It was likely to come as no surprise when the creature came forth to strike. With a blade in it's wrist, it launched its blade towards in a punching motion. An armor-piercing attack threatened to punch into the Fae's still solid spirit body before her journey through the spirit world even began. [E-Grade Attack]
