"We have many songs, and not many names for them. Many serve purposes, entreating and placating the spirits and little gods; others celebrate the seasons and bounteous gatherings of fruit, or of births and deaths and pairings. Others tell our histories. Perhaps the most beautiful I know tells of the love a young warrior many hundreds of years ago felt for the nymph-spirit of a waterfall; of how they touched, briefly, and she returned his love; but the waterfall is ever-changing, and in a heartbeat she had forgotten him"
